MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR Welcome to the 2025-2026 Diamond Season! As your Mayor, I am thrilled to invite you to experience the world-class performances that our community has come to expect at Flato Markham Theatre. We are especially excited to celebrate the Theatre’s 40th anniversary! This theatre was born from the vision of community leaders who saw the need for a community theatre in order for arts and culture to thrive in the City of Markham. From those individuals beating the drums, to the many people and corporations who have supported and allowed the Theatre to flourish for generations. It remains today, one of the more sophisticated and successful community theatres in all of Ontario. At the very heart of this community theatre were community leaders who saw the need, and were strong advocates for the creation of an institution where people could come together to create and enjoy the preforming arts. In addition to serving as a home for local talent, audiences have experienced world-renowned artists and performers. The Flato Markham Theatre stage has been the setting for several notable live album recordings from artists including Howie Mandel, Raffi, and the Nylons and was the home for Super Dave TV series for 3 seasons. From our rich history to our exciting future, Markham is a city that celebrates creativity and the Arts, and this season promises to deliver spectacular shows that will captivate, inspire, and entertain. I encourage you to bring your loved ones, share the experience, and join us in celebrating live theatre. Let’s make this 40th anniversary season one to remember!

MESSAGE FROM SCOTT Wow 40 years!!! For four decades Flato Markham Theatre has been the heart of live arts in York Region, bringing the world’s talent to Markham’s doorstep. Just as importantly we’ve opened our doors and stage to the community, fostering creativity and building a cultural home for all; and none of this would be possible without you. Your continued support and presence in our audience is what fuels the theatre. It’s not just the artists that make the magic, it’s you being part of the moment that makes every performance so meaningful. I am reminded of something Jake Shimabukuro shared about one of his songs that he performed here last season. The song is called Ichigo-Ichie that is also a Japanese idiom directly translated to “One time-One meet.” For Jake, it is about the appreciation of a moment, a sense of occasion, coming together for a shared experience. He equated it to performing, how every night is unique because it cannot be recreated with the same audience at the same time in the same place. The idea reminds people to cherish any gathering that they take part in, as no moment in life can be repeated. This philosophy is at the core of what we do. We create unique experiences every day, not just based on who is on stage but who is in the audience. You and your presence here at the theatre make moments that can never be repeated. So, when I thank you for being an important part of what we do, I mean thank you for your part in making special once in a lifetime events. I am honoured to share these unique moments with you. We are proud of 40 years of exceptional performances here at the theatre and look forward to many more in the years ahead. Ichigo-Ichie
