Milestone Family, The first quarter of 2022 is gone, and the construction season is about to be in full swing! As we head into another busy year, let’s remain focused on the safety of you, our teams, our customers, and the traveling public. Remember: safety is both physical and psychological. Continue to build our projects with the highest quality while providing a welcoming and engaging work environment. Make strides every day to be a performance leader; be the absolute best at what we do in all phases of our operation; and bring your passion and commitment to work daily by treating each other with respect and maintaining trust with all stakeholders. Area Highlights TERRE HAUTE

Champaign Asphalt Company

is excited to welcome A N N W I N N I N G S to the team. As Champaign Asphalt Company’s Illiana Construction division expands into the Southwestern Illinois region, Ann is going to be an integral part of its success. Ann comes to us with 7-years of experience in the regional oil market and is highly respected within the area. Her incredible work ethic and industry knowledge is an enormous asset to us, as we expand our offerings into new territories. Ann resides in Southern Illinois with her husband and daughter.

Outside of work, she spends her time as a 20-year volunteer firefighter/EMR for New Douglas Fire Department and raises goats, cows and chickens on their small farm.

After the Happiness Bag, we split up into groups of two and rang the bell for the Salvation Army at several locations across Terre Haute to raise money for the long-standing national charity.

This project was managed by General Superintendent Butch Crossley and headed up by superintendent Mike Dean and his crew. This is a 2-year, mill and resurface job containing 10,000 tons of patching and approximately 38,000 tons of mainline surface, providing nearly 40 lane miles of new HMA. One of the immediate obstacles that Butch, Mike, and the crew faced was the discovery of failed intermediate sections during the milling operation. Our team was able to partner with INDOT representatives to create a viable plan to resolve the issue while upholding our high standard of craftsmanship and quality of work.

Another challenge faced was the installation of 5.6 miles of new HMA Curb. Our field crew worked closely with the plant and lab to ensure the product reaching the field was the correct temperature and consistency to ensure a quality final product.

This project is planned to resume April 1 and be completed by the end of July. The remaining work includes 18,500 tons of surface, 3,00 tons of patching, and about 2.8 miles of HMA Curb.

Community Involvement On December 13th, 2021, the Terre Haute Area participated in our annual day of service. The entire office started the day at our local Catholic Charities food bank where we learned about their daily operations as well as how we can better get involved in our community to help those in need.

Next, we spent time at the Happiness Bag of Terre Haute, Wabash Valley’s only recreational and educational oriented facility designed for individuals with disabilities.

While here, our staff participated in a wide array of activities including several different types of arts and crafts and activities in their on-site gymnasium.

At the end of the day, we all reconvened at the 14th and Chestnut Community Center.

The 14th and Chestnut Community Center is a faith-based Nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of local children. The community center runs an after-school program and other various programs throughout the year to ensure these children have what they need. There is a food pantry open to the community that is also run by the community center. At the community center we also spent time wrapping donated Christmas gifts for the children.

Every year the day of service is a great way for our entire staff to give back to our community, reflect on how fortunate we are, and discover new ways to help those in need.

We look forward to continuing the tradition for many years to come.

Richmond-Portland AREA HIGHLIGHTS BY SCOT T HESTER,

US 27 North (9th St)

The 2022 construction season is well underway in the Richmond area. Crews started back installing watermain, storm sewer and pavement removal on our $17M US27 North project in Richmond around the first of March. This project will keep multiple crews busy throughout this year.

We also have some crews who have been busy most of the off-season installing a new control house to Milestone asphalt plant in Richmond. It is scheduled to be completed just in time for the paving season.

The estimating group has been very busy bidding work over the winter to try to put as much work on the books as possible for this season. Some projects we have been successful on are: • • • • • •

There are several more road and bridge projects still bidding this year, and we will be looking to add to our backlog on these projects. Our project accounting team along with estimating and operations are ready for another safe and successful 2022 construction season.

Office Remodel

We are also finishing up a two-year complete interior office renovation.

We started with the kitchen and bathrooms and then all the offices and lobby. It has been a little bit of a hassle but in the end looks so much nicer and more modern.

Columbus Milestone Columbus provided Labor and Equipment for the demolition of an existing dilapidated home to allow for a new home to be constructed. They did this work for a local social services organization; Thrive Alliance.

Thrive Alliances helps people find the right info, resources and support needed to live as independently as possible. Their programs focus on issues related to affordable housing, caregiver support, nutrition, wellness programs and much more! They serve several counties in the southern Indiana area.

The Columbus office helped Jacinda Stillabower, a Columbus East High School student, who is working on her senior project.

She is collecting all sorts of soup items and ingredients that will be donated to Love Chapel. She is seeking ingredients for Chili, Vegetable and Chicken Noodles soups. She has made a list for each ingredient list and is making great progress!

We are happy we could donate.

All plant personnel participated in training sessions that covered these topics as well as several other OSHA standards. The Arc Flash Prevention training included both classroom and hands-on sessions.

EFFICIENCY In 2021 the 18 active Milestone asphalt plants produced over 4 million tons of mix. November and December production helped push the overall tonnage to an above-average level. Plant 60 achieved its highest annual total. The crushing and screening plants produced over 1.1 million tons of RAP and crushed concrete. Our concrete plants produced over 180,000 cubic yards of concrete. These levels of productivity and efficiency would not be possible without a solid plant maintenance program and timely plant upgrades. Our Plant Operators and Plant Maintenance teams do a fantastic job of implementing the core maintenance and repair functions at the plants. Investments continue to be made in component replacement and upgrade to keep the plants efficient and productive. Following is a summary of the 2021 and 2022 Capital Expenditure investments made:

He has the ability to address any problems with a simple solution. Enjoy fishing, hunting, and gardening in your retirement.

Community Involvement L A F A Y E T T E #1 Back in the fall of 2019, Doug Pierce was contacted by one of our employees that knows Gary King, VFW Commander at Post 9383 in Delphi, Indiana who was reaching out for help in getting their parking lot repaved. The parking lot was really showing its age, with cracking and rutting. Shortly after contacting Gary, Doug and his team started investigating what was needed so pricing could be prepared and realized we wouldn’t be able to help before the end of the year because of the contract work we had left to complete and that we would have to do it the next year. Unfortunately, we all know what happened shortly thereafter with Covid-19, so by trying to navigate the pandemic and get our contract work done we were not able to help in 2020 either. In the spring of 2021, Gary contacted us again stating they still wanted to get the lot paved and that they had raised money to help pay for some of the work. It ended up being enough to pay for the asphalt mix and most of the trucking, so Milestone provided the crew, equipment, and the balance of the trucking to get the parking lot overlaid. This required milling in locations for tie-ins/butt joints and to remove humps, wedging and leveling in areas to fill ruts, and then overlay the entire lot.

Once paved, the lot was striped by Straight Lines, Inc. at a reduced rate. This work was finally completed last November. A big thanks to Gary for his patience as we worked his paving in with other work, we had in the Delphi area! We are glad we could help a VFW in our community!

I N D I A N A P O L I S #2 During the month of February our Indy Team purchased and donated 90 boxes of girl scout cookies. Not only did we help a scout troop out with our purchase, but we also donated the cookies to First Responders, this included Nurses, Firefighters and Police Officers. A short note was placed on each box of cookies that read:

Thank you for your willingness to serve others, especially in this tough time. We appreciate all that you do for us.

Best wishes, as we start the New Year! Enjoy these Girl Scout cookies on us, as a small token of our appreciation.

Thank You! Milestone Contractors, LP. Cookies were dropped off at various locations in our community.

Boone County Sheriff Department, Lebanon Fire Station, Whitestown Fire Station, City of Greenwood Police Department, Community Hospital and St. Francis Hospital and Town of Pittsboro. Funny comments ranged from “for us, why?”, to “the guys are working out in the gym so I’m going to take the cookies in there right now”. Everyone was very appreciative of this small gesture, and we were happy to do so.

S H A R E T H E L O V E #3 During the month of February our Indy Team came together and ‘Shared Some Love’ with the Ronald McDonald House of Central Indiana.

Their goal was to decorate the doors of all 33 rooms for Valentine’s Day, and with our help they were able to do that.

Donations from Milestone along with Lisa Phillips, Gary Wethington, Todd Reisman, Steve Friess, David Denisiuk and Cathy Wethington, Milestone was able to decorate 20 of the 33 room doors.

F O O D B A N K O F N W I #4 The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana has been providing critical food assistance to individuals and families in need since 1982, a nd is the only food bank serving Lake and Porter counties in Indiana. The idea for the FBNI was born in 1981 when two local United Way and Steel Worker representatives at a conference in Indianapolis learned about how a food bank could positively impact their community. They were so inspired that they brought the idea back home to the Region and, within a year, the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana was established.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a supportive home away from home for families of children receiving medical care at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health and other area hospitals.

With our help every family staying at Ronald McDonald House enjoyed a wonderfully decorated door, a fun care package, and even a delicious Valentine’s Day brunch.

Milestone North was able to volunteer their time this March at the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana! They participated in the food bank’s Pack to Give Back event where they packed 192 bags of food.

The food will be given to children in need at the local elementary, middle, and high schools. Thank you to Paul, Tracy, Ashley, Lisa, Jeff, Jim, Dave, Todd, and Vince for contributing your time to such a great organization. What you do matters!!

The Hoosier Company, inc., has been helping out Milestone for many years!

Hoosier completes work for us all over the state of Indiana. Recently they have created new overhead sheet signs on interstates and have completed the lighting at the Indianapolis Airport for us. Projects require a lot of moving parts to complete, and we are grateful to be able to work with a company like Hoosier! Thank you, Hoosier, for your quality service, and we can’t wait to work together for years to come.
