Haroon Ali
Haroon Ali would describe himself as “cool, calm and collected”. Well here are a few reasons why he isn’t. Many of you will see Haroon around the study centre, doing his work with his headphones on and sipping his water and think he’s just a chilled guy. Although this is largely true, push the right buttons and Haroon’s ability to make you question your existence is unleashed (evident in some of his 21,306 tweets). Many-a-time I have rued trying to banter with him and have been left feeling like a wasteman after he brings up some of my embarrassing tweets from months ago. A solid footballer, Haroon has progressed from the B team through to the awesome 5th XI and has been able to adapt his game following his concerning loss of pace in recent times. I’m sure I can safely say on behalf of the ‘mandem’: Getting to know Haroon over the last seven years have been a fun, albeit difficult, adventure and I’m sure we’ll keep in touch over twitter or in our ‘mandem’ chats over whatsapp. I look forward to seeing you again and seeing what ‘lucky’ girl will undertake the challenge of marrying this guy! (Lolu)

Heer Hassan
What first comes to mind when you hear the name Heer is the fact that they sound the same, but aside from that you could say that Heer isn’t the perfect student. His personal quirks tend to annoy most such as the need to be the centre of the universe, the verbal diarrhoea constantly leaking or the strange seal impression he does when he laughs however some never cease to amaze. His undying loyalty to a subway and his ability to manipulate Nikul into doing his bidding are just a few. All that aside he has managed to prove his doubters wrong by absolutely annihilating his exams and getting strings of 100s on his reports. His status as a ‘friend’ has always been a bit of a grey area with some people, however once you get to know him he can be the friend that you’ve always needed. He has an ambition to study medicine however faints at the first sign of blood and and you wouldn’t trust him with a butter knife let alone a scalpel. But you still get the sense that he will still be a brilliant doctor.(Trishan Sharma)
look at it, Tahmid has been an integral part of the class of 2013. The source of many a conversation and bouts of laughter, he symbolises that wild jester which a school experience desperately needs during stressful periods. No doubt, the chronicles of “Kettle” and “MLK The King” shall go down in folklore, along with so many other stories which have come about over the years. But at the end of the day, the enigmatic entertainer must be admired for approaching his school life at an alternative angle (subtle) to most of us. Whilst many have preferred to keep their heads down, Tahmid has always been willing to jump up and say “this is who I am, take it or leave it”. And so it goes without saying, that in fifty years time in the depths of despair, we shall all remember that kid whose head was a bit square (request officially unanswered).
Richard Millard
We’ve known Richard for 7 years now, enough time to get to know him and to become good friends. Richard has found out that being a nice guy does not always work out so well at an all-boys school. Doing Further Maths for fun, choosing a subject that includes a ridiculous amount of maths and an unfortunate comment on his manhood have been central to the banter, which makes his only counter to punch (quite hard, to be fair). However, being nice does give Richard a distinct advantage with the opposite sex - not that he is using that advantage very well so far! A poor choice in (an already taken) girl was always going to be a mountain to climb and he has unfortunately not been able to conquer the unreasonable quest as of yet. Richard has a large group of friends outside of our (really cool) RAF group and a solid university offer for a proper subject. So, being nice may be paying off now. Richard has always been a good sport, a top lad and fun to be around. I wish him luck, although, I’m sure he doesn’t need it! (Craig Threadgold and Stefan Phillips)

Abid Rahman
From the moment he entered the school in the sixth form he’s made a lasting impression. His constant tiring and frankly idiotic number of questions in class is a memory of anyone who is unfortunate enough to share a class with him. He’s unorganised, messy, he walks into doors, has yet to master the act of shaving and is quite frankly dopey, but I guess that’s just Abid. Abid is also is rather vain and is often found touching and tensing his own muscles, yes we understand you go gym but you’re not a big guy and your attempts in trying to attract the opposite sex have failed miserably. This scruffily dressed, lanky kid uncannily resembles the looks and personality of the dinosaur ‘Rex’ from the film Toy Story. Negative’s aside, Abid’s personality shines through as a down to earth kind of guy and we wish him the best of luck in becoming an accountant and working tiring long hours in a city bank. (Krishan Kanani and Heer Shah)
Leon Stratford
Starting his school career as the Milkybar Kid, Leon has always had a childish side to him, never failing to maintain the mentality of a seven-year-old. This still hasn’t got him the “cutie hipster girlfriend” he promised he’d have. We’ll remember the time Leon struggled to find his way into a party. He eventually got in, only to be jumped on by a girl and seemingly (or so he claims) have no control over her pinning him to the chair for the night. He’ll never be that innocent Milkybar Kid again. Leon earnt the nickname Meg, which linked in nicely with the traits he shared with Meg Griffin: beautiful, strong and interesting. Yeah... He’s an excellent musician, proven by his attainment of grade 8 Clarinet... Though he got a hell of a lot of practice. Leon is an awesome person to be around - even on DofE he was the happy one. We wish you the best, and hope you end up at Manchester where you belong! (Matt and Jason)
Raheem Vernege
Raheem has always been a relaxed, confident and easy going guy that is always fun to have around. One of the best things about him is that you can tell exactly what he is thinking because he seems to have been gifted with an endless supply of facial expressions – enough to put a smile on anyone’s face. At school, Raheem is an academic beast; Chemistry, Maths, DT you name it, nothing can make him falter. In sport, Raheem has had his fair share of embarrassing moments on the school Astros from scoring spectacular own goals to hilarious stacks. Raheem has also done a range of activities outside out the classroom. He is a brown belt at Karate, a popular figure at Beavers Scouts and has also participated in DofE where he’s known for climbing mountains in the places including the Peak District, North Downs and Snowdonia dressed as Ash from Pokémon (Luke Zhu is his Pikachu). Rah as he is affectionately known by some, has also been a dedicated volunteer at care homes and has an unrivalled passion for board games. Raheem has been an exceptional friend to many and will be a great doctor! (Luke, Zeyang and Will)
Kai Ward
Kai is an opinionated and passionate member of Wilson’s who is proud of his strong opinions over certain issues. The passion often manifests itself in extreme keenness especially with regards to Geography and RAF, both of which consume his life. However, being a KEENO has clearly worked as it has resulted in a terrific Cambridge offer and a flying scholarship to South Korea. Whilst he is good at such activities he also fails in other regards; his biggest worry is not being socially acceptable when attending university. He is beginning to address such issue, for example in Tanzania we undertook a massive project to “reduce obesity levels” which resulted in us both reaching the top of Mt Kilimanjaro. Always full of exceptional banter, Kai is a funny guy with a large group of friends and so despite his worries about being socially inadequate, he can consider himself one of the lads!

How time has flown Blubery Year 13! Some of you have been here since Year 9 but many of you joining us just last year. What a fantastic group you’ve been and excellent role models for the rest of the house. As I’ve said many times, you certainly take the prize for being the quietest Year 13 I’ve had in Blubery! There are some great memories you have left us with including Keziah’s impression of Hattie the dog at Christmas and the ‘interesting’ awards at the Blubery Dinner – I still have to live with Jason’s ego on that one! You are a wonderful and kind group of girls and I look forward to hearing the amazing things you will be getting up to in the years to come.

Well done for making it through to the end of Year 11! No doubt you have all changed since arriving at Churchill five years ago - before the COVID pandemic and before Lancaster House even existed. You have dealt with these changes and challenges with such maturity and developed so many important skills and characteristics along the way, all of which will stand you in good stead for the future.
For both of us, being your Head of House has been an absolute pleasure. We are grateful for the way you have contributed to Lancaster and put your own stamp on Churchill’s newest house, as well as being fantastic role models for our younger Lancaster students, many of whom look up to you.
Despite leaving school as a year group
together, the next chapters will look very different for many of you. Lots of you will be back in school in September for Sixth Form, others will be going to College and some of you into the big wide world of work! But whatever you choose to do next, we wish you the very best of luck and will be looking forward to hearing all of the success stories in the years to come!
Take care,

From day one where we all sat making metaphors on the grass - bonding - I saw before me a shy group, a kind, intelligent, and awkward-until-you-know-us group. One that would spend weeks sitting there in painful silence, forcing me to speak to myself. We need to work on that, I remember thinking. But as we spent our days, months, and Sixth Form years together, I came to know a collection of the most driven, complex, and resilient individuals that I have been honoured to walk alongside.Your candour, vulnerability, and your consistent top rankings for Friday tutor time attendance are your strengths. It is a rare and impressive feat for a student to learn an entire curriculum by his/herself. In reality, a student’s learning is orchestrated and facilitated by one who, for a time, knows better. Herein lies the basis of the student teacher relationship; the teacher teaches, the student learns.

It happens to everyone as we grow up. We find out who we are and what we want, and then we realise that people we’ve known forever don’t see things the way we do. Hello You Wonderful People. It has been such a delight to have you as my tutor group for the last five years. I look back at the photo of you all, on your Year 6 Induction Day. Those little people, keen and excited about coming to Budmouth. How you have all changed!! We have lost a few on the way but gained a few new faces as well. You are all so grown up now and ready to take the next step up your ladder of life.

Dear UG12
It has been a real pleasure getting to know you lot. Hearing some of your ideas about the world and politics, sharing thoughts on coffee and being enlightened about football. Period 3 on a Monday is always something I look forward to and I love our discussions that often meander from the topic in hand but always end with some inspirational thoughts. Although we haven’t quite mastered the Gaelic language and I still have not got Instagram or TikTok I am sure our shared experience has elevated us all in different ways. I wish you all so much happiness and good times, adventures and excitement but above all the courage and self knowledge to take life on and live it with fulfilment. My final words: have compassion towards others and be kind to yourself.

To the fantastic 11T, it has been a brilliant five years we have had together and an absolute pleasure to have had such a lovely group of individuals in my form. I’ve always looked forward to registration, checking uniform, planners and equipment : ) but most importantly the chats we have had and the laughs you have given me are second to none. I have watched you grow from children into young adults and it has been a privilege
You really do have a special place in my heart and I will miss you all very much - 11T you cannot be replaced!
Started from Korea now I’m here

It has been lovely being your form tutor even though it’s only been for two years, most of you have made it easy for me, by doing all the things you are supposed to and not getting into trouble.
I’ve lost count of the times I’ve said, ‘tuck your shirt in’ though to some of the boys. It has been wonderful getting to know you all and I wish you the best of luck for the future in anything and everything you go on to do.

Art
Artists,
It has been a real pleasure to help steer you through the exciting yet challenging 2 years that is A Level Fine Art. The way that you have thrown yourselves into every challenge, meeting and exceeding them continuously has been truly inspirational. I am proud of each and every one of you and so pleased that many of you are moving on to creative University courses. Please go out there, push creative boundaries and be ambitious in whatever field you are going into.
You will be missed. Remember the music.
Biology
Dear Biologists,
Whether the past two years in biology has given you a foundation for further study or not, know that what we have learned together will give you something deeper in life: to understand how the body works and to care for others, to understand good science and to challenge ignorance, to understand nature and to care enough to protect it. Go well Biologists… laugh every day, read more, look up, enjoy nature, and look after it. We don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.

Business
To all the Year 13 Business students
You have been an absolutely incredible class to teach over the past 2 years! We have both enjoyed getting to know you and seeing you grow and mature as students both within our subject and as individuals outside of the classroom. You have been such a positive and engaging group to teach and thank you for all your commitment and the many many hours of work you have put into this subject. We wish you everything of the best and all the success in the world. Well done everyone on all you have achieved!!

‘Congratulations on finishing your Classical Civilisation A-level. It has been great teaching you for all your lessons this year, I have particularly enjoyed the meme wall, and I have really enjoyed our lessons and the passion you have displayed for the subject. Good luck with the future, I know you will all go onto do brilliant things in your future undertakings. Keep in touch and make sure to visit from time to time. Good luck! - Will’
Computer Science
To my Year 13 Computer Scientists, It has been an honour and absolute pleasure to share with you my love for Computer Science. You have all been amazing and with your newfound knowledge of computing and your incredible skills at programming, I know you will have great success in the future whatever you do.
In the words of Albert Einstein: “Computers are incredibly fast, accurate, and stupid. Human beings are incredibly slow, inaccurate, and brilliant. Together they are powerful beyond imagination.”
Good Luck and Best Wishes
Robin Drama
What a team! Well done for all the hard work and determination over the past two years. It has been a memorable time. One of the highlights for us being the whole school show - what a great performance all round. Good luck with your future endeavours and delete TikTok once in a while!
Economics
“A nation is not made wealthy by the childish accumulation of shiny metals but is enriched by the economic prosperity of its people”. Adam Smith
I hope you have enjoyed learning about Economics as much as I have enjoyed teaching it to you. I wish you every success for the future and encourage you to continue to be interested in the economic issues that surround you.
Good luck in all that you do, Sue
English Language
What a journey we have been on, through the intricacies of our words and the power they have to reflect and shape our worlds. You are thoughtful, kind and funny; we have thoroughly enjoyed hearing your thoughts on issues such as genderlects, child language and accent discrimination (and you need to accept none of you have managed to master mine yet, despite the constant attempts to mimic it!). A particular favourite memory of you all will be the Neville Lawrence lesson, not because of your insightful analysis but because of the very human shock and amusement displayed when you realised what you had written. It has been a privilege to share this stage of your lives with you, reading your creative writing and investigations and realising that you are indeed ready for us to throw you out of our nests. Fly high and far, enjoying all that the world and its language has to share with you!

Confessions
I used to jump out of the Parr windows.
Threw a pair of someone’s shoes out of a first-floor window and got caught by Miss Gear.
I see too many teachers as parental figures.
I didn’t do a single bit of history work in lockdown and then I dropped it because I was too behind.
My friends and I ran out of Leeson House at 12am to jump onto hay bales in the neighbouring field and when we came back we scared the campers because they thought we were kidnappers.
In Year 10 I sat on a bookshelf, and it snapped in half in Mrs Davie’s German class and then the whole of 10P got told off for it but I wasn’t even in Parks.
I have a snowdrop tattoo.
My friends and I decided to eat tomato paste straight out of the tube in the back of a history lesson.
Turned up tipsy to a double lesson.
Whenever I was on recycling duty, I would just dump my forms recycling in random Year 7 classrooms and make them do it.
I have a crush on Mr Whiteside.
I stole Sienna’s £1 she gave in for charity on mufti day.
When my hamster died my parents wouldn’t let me bury it, so I brought it to school and buried it in one of Mrs Quinn’s flower beds.
I used to come up with questions in French so I could talk to Mr Allegre.
In the summer heatwave Mr Harris didn’t wear any socks and shoes in his classroom.
I regularly stalk Mr Brien’s Instagram
I skipped a lesson to see a sneaky link in the copse.
Never bothered to do or hand in the Blashford Lakes project in y8 but came out with a B+ and a gold star for effort.
I cheated in my Year 8 music exam and still failed.
On behalf of 9.1 (2018-19), we used to turn off the projector at the wall every single German lesson, and Frau Clayton would call IT and waste about 15 minutes. We’re sorry Frau Clayton.
I stuffed yoghurt packets behind the radiator in my form room so the whole room stank like mouldy cheese.
I’m actually quite sad I haven’t broken any rules.
I have a crush on Miss Scriven.
I stole Mrs Watts brownie.
On a school trip to Hampton Court Palace, I drop kicked a conker and it hit Mrs Holman.
I left my vape in Mrs Collins’ car.
I once signed out before 3.35 on a Wednesday afternoon.
Yearbook Committee
What to say about the Yearbook committee? Well first I want to say thank you to: Will Opie, Kyle Bright, Aicha Balde, Brayden Bavister, Nana Aba Blakson, Lydia McCluskey, Alex Walker and our late edition Tabitha Jones. Oh and of course I can’t forget our Photographer William Digance in Year 10 who volunteered and gave up much of his own time to help us. The yearbook committee has worked endlessly and we have spent many lunch times and many hours after school making this yearbook happen; we have created many memories from Brayden letting one go to William calling Nana “Nanny”. It has been a real pleasure working with you all and I could not have done it without you, Thank you!
Zara Nicholls Yearbook Editor
I would like to say a massive thank you to the Yearbook committee and in particular Zara, the amount of work that went on behind the scenes was huge! Just the organisation alone took hours, from taking photos and editing them, sending emails to parents, fundraising, liaising with Fizz, all whilst in the most important year of your lives (so far). The dedication, commitment and resilience it has taken to produce this yearbook is real testament to your character Zara and you have shown a real passion to give your peers something tangible they can remember their time at BHCS by, so thank you on behalf of all of Year 11!
Mr Robbie Slack Head of Year 11
We Will Miss You...
11DHI1, you will be missed. You have made the teaching of History so easy and enjoyable for me this year. Best of luck with your next steps - any college or workplace will be lucky to have such amazing young people attending and working for them. All the best!!
Miss Day
Dear Year 11. I really wanted to just say thank you. When I joined the school, you made me feel really welcome and it was so great to see so many of you choose construction. You have all worked really well over these past two years and it has been my privilege to share a small part of your lives with you. I wish you all the best of luck with the next steps in your futures, and I also look forward to seeing some of you in September. Limits like fears, are often just an illusion!
Mr Gregory
11BAD1 You will be very missed and the art department will feel very quiet and empty without you! I have such fond memories with you all in lesson and in art club, you all never failed to make me laugh- From Malika’s sudden outbursts singing to the radio, Katie’s laps round the classroom when she’s looked at her painting too long ,and pretty much everything Zara says and does.. (as well as so many more) You lot have given us so many laughs and smiles and worked very hard, we in art are very proud. It’s been a pleasure teaching you and watching you grow up. Good luck to you and the whole of Year 11, wishing you all the best.
Miss Evans
11M/MA2 what a journey we have had! There have been times where you drove me insane, but I have genuinely enjoyed teaching you all. It has been amazing watching you work hard and seeing your maths improve over the past two years. You have made me laugh, and I will miss teaching you all. Good luck with the next steps in your lives, you will all be amazing! Keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on!
Miss Worbey
11M1 – It has been such a privilege to watch you grow and develop your own personalities over the years. We have had quite a few adventures in English and quite a lot of laughs, and at times have kept me sane.
Year 11 will always hold a special place for me, the year group I got to be head of (for the most stressful year of my life), watching you come in as little, feisty Year 7’s and leave as big, feisty Year 11’s has been great to witness.
Good luck in the next steps of your life.
Miss Purdy
Keep smiling and be happy. I will miss giving some of you your medication every lunchtime! And no, you can’t go home unwell! Stay healthy and take care.
Mrs Ramsden
11BAD1- I really will miss you crazy bunch of people! Thank you for always brightening my day and providing constant entertainment, both in class and during art club. I honestly don’t think I’ve cry-laughed with any other group of students. I hope you all keep your creativity with you wherever you go and remember my glare whenever you doubt yourself.
Miss Brewer
To my library people, you know who you are, it has been a pleasure. Whether you were a reader, a chess player or just a biscuit eater under the guise of a book club member, you have brightened my days and made my job worthwhile. I hope you realise your dreams and if any of you become authors, I expect a signed copy of your book(s) for my library.
Where to start with this team! This group of footballers have had quite an amazing 4 years (one lost to COVID). Participating in the National Cup, the Hampshire Cup Final and District competitions, and coming away as District Champions 3 of the 4 years and final to be played at the time of writing. They have worked tirelessly - showing grace in winning but more importantly, grace in defeat. This group have demonstrated true teamwork and support for one another in some really challenging times - and we as a school couldn’t be prouder. Well done lads!

From little Year 8’s all the way to Year 11 you have been wonderful. Its been great to see the commitment both on and off the pitch from the Y11 team. We wish you all the best of luck in your future footballing careers
Cricket
For many of the boys involved they only managed to play whilst in Year 10 but what a year it was! County softball champions and hardball district champions. The final of the district cup hold one of my favourite memories as teacher, we looked down out and in the final 3 overs of the game some fabulous bowling and some outrageous catches saw wicket after wicket fall and we eventually came out winners with only a couple of bowls remaining.
Netball
After 5 years of success, your time on the court has come to an end! What a fantastic 5 years you have had as BHCS netballers! We hope to see you all take to the court in the adult league!

What a journey you have been on, and now the end is in sight. Leaving Budmouth may sound brilliant to some, but deep down many of you will miss the friends you have made, the teachers who have helped you and the sense of security and routine that school brings to our daily lives. Leaving one aspect of your life and moving on to another is part of becoming an adult, and for most of this is this is the first step on this long journey. It doesn’t make it easy however. The most important thing is to learn from the past, gain knowledge from your mistakes and approach the next step with renewed enthusiasm, be that here at school, at college or on an apprenticeship.

For now though, it is important to take stock after a busy and stressful exam period and decide how you want to spend the summer. Don’t waste it, this will most likely be the longest holiday of your life, and whether you get a job, go travelling, visit some music festivals or just choose to spend the time outdoors in our beautiful local area, make sure live in the moment and spend time thinking about your own dreams and aspirations for your future. Finally, I wish you the best of luck, enjoy the yearbook and prom and I’d love you to come back and visit us here and to let us know how you are getting on.
Mr Hoffmann Headteacher
Congratulations on reaching the end of Year 11! I hope you will look back on your time in school with fond memories and pride. From entering in 2018 as scared and nervous Year 7s, to adapting to online schooling during the covid pandemic to returning and blossoming into respectable young adults during Year 11, you’ve faced it all with patience, resilience and determination. It has been a privilege to be a head of school with you since Year 8. I wish you all the success in the future and remember “if you believe you can you’re halfway there” (T Roosevelt).

Hawking - it has been a pleasure to get to know you all over the past couple of years as your Head of School. And what a couple of years they have been! I’m not sure any of us would have predicted that your final years at secondary school would involve a pandemic, but there you go! It has presented its challenges, but I have been impressed by the way so many of you have taken it in your stride and remained positive, upbeat and driven.
As Heads of School we always talk about resilience but who knew how your year group was going to have to step up and be so self motivating and resilient?
You have survived the craziest of GCSE learning; one minute in school, then at home, then in bubbles, with strength and a lot of humour. I remember so many of you from Year 7 and 8 drama lessons but now I know you as young adults, preparing for the rest of your lives and about to step off on your biggest adventures. Wherever you plan to go in September and beyond, remember the fantastic group you have come from. Be proud to be a Year 11 2023 leaver - the ones who survived it all!

I want to leave you with some words of advice from a very wise man, and our school’s namesake, Stephen Hawking:
‘Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.’
I wish you all the luck with your next steps and wherever they may take you. Keep focused, strive hard and be kind.

Y11 Turing - Congratulations, you’ve made it!
What a journey, 5 years at Budmouth, and it has been a privilege being your Head of School for the final stint. You are a year group full of character, humour and purpose. A year group that has had to adapt and overcome through some of the most challenging times. Now is the time to start your journey; take risks, continue learning and stay hungry for progression. Most importantly, have an incredible summer, stay safe and be excited for what the future holds!

Message from the Director (Headteacher)
Dr Gillespie
Dear Year 13,
As a year group you have had an awful lot to deal with during your time at BGS. The experience of lockdowns, TAGs and remote learning will stay with you always, but I hope that these experiences will have built your resilience and ability to adapt to whatever life throws at you. It has been a pleasure to see how you have equipped yourselves with the attitudes, study skills and resilience to meet these challenges and also find time to support the younger students who have benefitted from your mentoring.
Although COVID restrictions and lockdowns may have robbed us of a few social events and trips that really cement friendships, they have also enabled us to reflect on what is really important and seem to have actually cemented greater bods of friendship between you all and also deepened your links with your teachers. You will be aware of the generosity of the overwhelming majority of your teachers in giving up their time outside of lessons to support you. If this is the case, before you leave please take the time to let others know that you have been thinking of them or thank them for the support and kindness they have shown to you in your times of greatest need.
your choreography, direction, performances and the technical know how of the
As a year group you have always demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of being a Caring Individual and this is particularly true through extracurricular activities, both on the stage or the sports field and I hope that you continue with these and new experiences as you move to the next part of your lives. I know that both the dance show and productions won’t quite be the same without your choreography, direction, performances and the technical know how of the awesome stage crew.
The staff and I could not be prouder of a year group who have faced staggering challenges and rolled up their sleeves and got on with things whilst supporting each other and the younger students. You should be extremely proud of how you have been at the forefront of this excellence in the face of such adversity. Always remember Dr Haynes, his sense of adventure and pursuit of a career he loved which made a difference to so many of us.
Have a great summer, best of luck on your next steps and please keep in touch so that you can continue to inspire the future generations of BGS students.
CLASS OF 2023
Message from the Assistant Director
(Assistant Headteacher)
Mr John
Dear Year 13,
This yearbook you hold in your hand is a snapshot of the highlights and memorable events of your time at BGS. A closing of a chapter in your lives.
I hope it will remind you of good times with friends, and events like the Dance Show or Drama Production, or a specific lesson, teacher or school trip. And I hope, when you find this yearbook safely stored away in ten, twenty or even thirty years time, all those memories come flooding back and bring a huge smile to your face. Hopefully it will prompt you to send a message or two to your friends – “I’ve just found our old yearbook, do you remember when…….”
Undoubtedly you will reflect on how challenging your school and early Sixth Form experience was during 2020-22. And it has been, of course, but I have always been impressed with the resilience you all have shown. It will prepare you well for any bumps in the road along your way.
Your Sixth Form experience also coincided with being the first Year 13 cohort to spend the majority of their Sixth Form in the new school building, with the old school building just a fading memory. It isn’t, however, the buildings that make your school experience so memorable - it is the people. You have created friendships at BGS that will last long into the future. Treasure those bonds.
At this point, I like to offer advice that may be of use to you in the future:
• Continue to aim high. Don’t let setbacks put you off track, they are just part of the learning experience of life.
• Travel, travel, travel. There is a whole world out there waiting to be explored.
• Make a positive impact with everything you do.
• Be nice to family, friends and strangers alike.
• Pay off your credit card each month.
• Do something regularly that makes you happy.
• Ring your parents weekly, they will miss you. Honest.
• Stay in touch with your school friends. As many as you can, of course, and as the years pass make time for the special few.
As one door closes, another door opens. The rest of your life awaits. Grasp the opportunities, stay true to yourself and enjoy every moment.
Keep in touch and take care.

Head Prefects Messages
Mhm well two (or seven in my case for better or worse) years, too many. It’s been a blast being your head girl, taking random pictures of yall like a creep to rushing around the school on prefect duties, in all honesty this opportunity is one I will never forget. Even though somehow we are still meeting new people in our year every week, I know for certainty that we all will go on to do something great. Throughout our time at camden we’ve faced a lot of adversity and uncertainty ; the fingerprint system still doesn’t work (#someoneisoutside iykyk), Amber heard’s dog stepped on a bee, the common room still has such an intense smell and Tesco meal deal prices rose substantially (Honestly probably the worst thing that’s happened to this country), and yet collectively as a year group we have shown resilience and unity in the things we do. Where else would you see students having ping pong tournaments for fun or students willingly being harassed by pink police to raise money for fighting breast cancer or students filling the food bank box each term to help struggling families.… Probably lots of places actually. But the point is you guys still thrive in these times of adversity and that is the reason why you can achieve greatness. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not possible. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it. Don’t let anyone tell you no. Because truthfully you can. As the famous poet Sid the sloth from the ice age once said “bad news is just good news in disguise. That even though things look bad, there’s a rainbow round every corner”. :) So pursue your passions. Walk the tightrope. Take the risk. Because the worst thing that could happen is it won’t. Let your reason be your motivation to succeed. And, if you have no reason - do it for the vibes x Until we meet again *cabbage*,
Zahra Amin - Head prefect
AHHH! WE’VE MADE IT! FINALLY! Well, by the time you’re reading this…we’ve almost made it. There’s only the most intense period of our lives coming up (cries)! But in all seriousness, this Year Group has shown me what it truly means to be strong, resilient and determined. You guys never cease to amaze me with your incredible talents, intelligence, kindness and all-together brilliance. I cannot thank you enough for giving me the incredible opportunity of being your Head Girl. Running around like a headless chicken during each school event we’ve hosted, multiple nights of toiling away in my kitchen until 4 am desperately trying to make cookies for endless bake sales and getting to play the queen herself, Ms Camillo, in the Christmas Pantomime are certainly experiences I’ll never forget. Every moment has been completely worth it. In the past two years, Feminist Society has been reinstated, Culture Club and LGBTQ+ club has continued to be run by students in our year and we’ve raised substantial amounts of money during fundraising events for various charities such as EndFGM and RefugePoint whose causes are extremely crucial in today’s world. These amazing achievements have happened because of YOU. What I love about Camden is the amount of encouragement and support our teachers give to us students, giving us the confidence to be initiators which helps us tap into our potential. We are all capable of achieving more than we even realise, and so I cannot wait to see what is next for everyone. Life is too short to limit yourself. Seven years of Tesco’s meal deals, enjoying strutting our stuff on the Pink Day catwalk and endless frustration at the front gate because our fingerprints won’t let us in have been totally worth it. I wish you the best of luck in all that you do, you wonderful, beautiful people! Onwards and upwards! Justin Biba outttt xxxx P.s. Let’s hope Tesco catches a break from us soon…until the next lot ;)

First Team Rugby Sports TeamsExtracurricular Clubs
1st XV rugby. The most funded sports team. The most disappointing sports team. The season started strong, with an abundance of players turning up to pre-season; an ex-England player as a coach, ice baths, fingers down throats and two lanky Cambodians. This set the standard moving forward. The preseason match gave us an opportunity to more than bond as a squad, and get to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, the Sheasby way, as we lost, in the shadows of Twickenham Stadium in a game that we should have easily won.
The high standard continued into the season, with the prestige coach resigning after the first match, as he couldn’t turn a blind eye to the decision made by myself to miss this match due to uni open days. This led to his point of view being thoroughly expressed about the values of the school, and in a raging 15minute speech announced to the squad his resignment. The Roman road, A - Z playing scheme was then abandoned and switched for a more modern, flowing twist from Mr Brown. Somerset, the go to play causing chaos for the opposition. This was achieved by the boys turning up to depressive Monday morning sessions every week and continuing to work hard, which in turn meant that we were able to then organise specific squad positions and roles. This allowed us to then adapt a structured system from set pieces during matches, which meant we were able to gain an edge in attack on opposition schools, during the start of the term, leading to us winning our first two home matches in front of a sellout crowd of 20 people, as well as taking an early lead in many of our matches in general. This was led by squad leaders such as Shunta Goto, Jacob Bor and Hugo Kinder, all of whom have had previous experience in this setting, due to this being their second year in the squad. The vibe of the squad being driven by Shunta on the music, at the back of the coach, for away games. However, we did hit a wall when it came to putting points on the board during the halfway point of the term. But through hard work, determination and picking apart our play by looking at smaller details, we were able to put on a good show in front of a crowd and get a win at the Ealing Trailfinders ground for our Friday nights lights special against Latymer school. This was extremely important in setting a positive tone going into the final few weeks of term, basing our playing style on Jacob’s suplex, Yuji’s quiet but confident leadership, Alex’s tackling, and Hugo’s water bottle-carrying skills. This team has been a great success and I’ve seen the boys flourish and grow as players and as a squad.

We want to reinforce the fact that, yes UCS has a school swimming team, and yes it competes at the highest level out of any sport at UCS. Although you wouldn’t believe it, as swimming would still receive the award for the most disrespected sport at UCS with even the PE department not caring enough about it to give out first-team ties. It is unsurprising that the number of people who now make up the swim team is relatively low: as the swimming sessions throughout UCS had built its reputation on the red swim trunks given out to those unfortunate enough to have forgotten their kit, and Sawtell not letting you miss a session unless you were visibly missing a limb. However, the atmosphere is always lively, even if the Wednesday games sessions were very rarely at full capacity, with some senior members deciding a trip to Nandos was a better way to spend their time, and others too busy posing in the changing room mirrors and selling scoops of creatine (Ioannis) to attend.
After a half term of painful 6 am wake-ups on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the galas then started coming in quick succession with the first being at HABS in October. Despite being told to come in normal clothes, the senior members collectively decided that we would all arrive in suits. It was agreed that if we were going to come last we would at least do it in style. All was well on the coach, with hardstyle Katy Perry blasting on our £2 speaker until calamity struck. One of the senior team members became severely ill, which he claimed was completely unrelated to the 8 scoops of preworkout and unholy amounts of Tangfastics he had consumed. Morale was restored by Paul Dillon, who promised a visit to Mcdonald’s drive-thru if we were to achieve 10 places on the podium. In typical UCS fashion, we were late to most galas and often completely missed the warmup. Sprinting to the first event became a common occurrence this year. Walking along poolside, we couldn’t help but feel intimidated by the fact there were more people above 6’3 than the average NBA team and there were more than a handful of individuals wearing Great Britain swimming caps, but at least we were the best dressed. Throughout all the galas there was some excellent swimming
from the juniors and middle schoolers, who secured several podium finishes. The highlight of the events, came in the senior front crawl relay, including Billy Shepherd, Sam Harding, Nik Markov and Joey Zakiam (who had volunteered for a 2 length race despite having the stamina of an 80yr old chain-smoker). Whilst other teams professionally dived in, Nik decided that it would be a good idea to do a front flip into the pool, which was received with the tears of an official, almost invoking an immediate removal from the event and a rather amused Mr Peck. Due to this excellent swimming from the whole squad, we managed to secure our place in the finals. Unfortunately, with the lack of ligaments in Sam Harding’s ankle and Billy Shepherd forgetting his kit, the senior squad was very thin and lacked the leadership of the two captains. We were unable to take home a medal this year, but it was still an awe-inspiring season. The future is bright with Luca, Ori, Hoff and Oscar, who will be captained by a mix of Joey, Nik and Ioannis next year.
Highlights of the season:
- Joey Zakaims rapid first length of every race, but capitulation in the second length.
- Samuel Wang deciding not to dive in at the start of his race to give the opposition an even playing field (he came last).
- Harding with a 26-second 50m fly (sub-county time and 2second PB) to come 7th.
- Billy getting assaulted by a member of his own team who had found a cone on the floor and decided the best course of action was to lob it in his direction
Swimming Swimming
- Ioannis coming 3rd in the IM with the recommended caffeine intake for a human in a year coursing through his veins after being unreasonably unwell on the coach.
- Niks frontflip and corresponding tears from the officials.
- The 3 McDonalds received as a result of 10+ podium finishes in 3 Galas.
result podium finishes in 3 Galas.

We would like to thank Paul Dillon, who never fails to make everyone laugh. He always manages to lift the mood of the very few people who manage to drag themselves out in the morning, and always comes through with the coco pops bars and juices.

Beaumanor
After our very first year of Comberton village college, we celebrated year 7 by going to Beaumanor for 5 days (in Leicestershire) where we did fun activities like zip-lining, bridge building, canoeing, abseiling, orienteering, climbing, doing obstacle courses ascended in the air, and various other team building activities. Each day started with a big English breakfast, where we would excitedly chatter among our friends about which activities we had done, and which we still had to do, while also appreciating the beautiful views of the rolling fields and old architecture surrounding us. Beaumanor was an excellent time to meet new people and become closer with the friendships we had made throughout the year, and while also pushing ourselves to do new things, Beaumanor helped us to reflect on the wonderful year we had. We finished it all off on the last day with a lively disco and an amusing talent show, before hopping on the coaches and going back home. We left Beaumanor with lots of stories to tell, new friends, and high spirits from what a wonderful school year we had!
Congratulations all of you who completed Bronze and Silver in Year 10 and 11. You were our first Bronze Group to go to Dallowgill Outdoor Education Centre for training. We enjoyed making our pizzas and making amazing dinner’s on our Trangia stoves. Mrs Hunter introduced us to Fred the Moose, sadly Mr Meyer just couldn’t recreate the magic on the Silver training. You will all have your own special memories of being chased by sheep, followed by goats, kept awake by mooing cows, getting lost, being found and of course the bus ride home followed by whatever amazing dinner you had waiting for you.
We hope you’ve been inspired to keep walking, keep exploring and enjoy our beautiful countryside.
Congratulations from, Mrs Hunter, Mr Meyer and DofE Staff and Volunteers
