ANSWERS TO LESSON 7 OBSERVATIONS

1.He carefully investigated everything from the beginning, talking to eyewitnesses and experiencing things himself. (1:1-4)

2.He asked how he could be sure since he and his wife were old. (1:18)

3.Elizabeth was pregnant with John the Baptist who would prepare the way for Jesus. Mary would give birth to Jesus. She stayed for three months. (1:39-45, 56)

4.They had to travel to Bethlehem as part of the census taking and there was no room in the inn so they had to stay with the animals. (2:1-7)

5.An angel told them where to find Jesus and that he was the Savior, Christ the Lord. (2:8-20)

Consider this:

Numerous times the angels and Jesus said “don’t be afraid.” When God is about to do amazing things, fear is often whispering in our hearts and minds The angels and Jesus know human emotions and did not want fear to get in the way of God’s work Later, the apostle Paul would write to the young man Timothy saying, “God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind ”

QUESTIONS FOR DEEPER THOUGHT

1.Mary was very young and a virgin. She praised God for all His mighty acts and applied this to herself. (1:4655)

2. He would be a prophet preparing the way for the Lord. (1:67-80)

3. Jesus would be salvation for all people, a redeemer for Israel and the Gentiles. (2:25-38)

4.They were amazed at his understanding and as he grew he increased in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and men. (2:47,52)

5.He said that he must be in his Father’s house. (2:49)

OBSERVATIONS

1.Jesus is his Son who he has chosen and listen to him. (9:35)

2.The people were not welcoming but Jesus rebuked the disciples for being that way. (9:52-55)

4.Jesus was teaching his disciples to pray that way. (11:1-4)

5.That the kingdom of God has come to them. (11:20)

6.They were hypocritical to keep the letter of the law in picky ways while missing main things like justice, love, and giving. (11:37-54)

Concerning his return, Jesus said it’s important for a servant to be ready and watchful even if the master returns in the second or third watch of the night As seen in the Old Testament, the second and third watch were the latest and most difficult Generally, the second watch would be 10:00 pm until 2:00 am, and the third watch 2:00 am until sunrise Jesus is telling us not to fall asleep on our relationship with him and wait for his return, even if it seems like time is dragging on

QUESTIONS FOR DEEPER THOUGHT

1.A person can’t decide to follow Jesus but then be totally sidetracked by life’s obligations. (9:57-62)

2. Serving was not the issue because Jesus said we should be servants.Martha was worried and upset about many things. Mary took time to listen to Jesus, which would be eternal in nature! (10:38-42)

3.We should be serious about prayer with persistence, knowing the Father loves us and will answer by the Holy Spirit. (11:5-13)

4.We need to be strong in the Lord and maintain our “house” by walking with the Lord and not trusting in our own strength. (11:21-26)

5.The queen of Sheba listened to Solomon and Nineveh listened to Jonah. Jesus is greater than both and they aren’t listening! (11:29-32)

6.We should not focus on temporary things. If our treasure is with eternal things our hearts will be with eternal things. (12:32-34)

7.Those who believe in his death, burial, and resurrection, will be divided from those who do not, even within families. (12:49-53)

1.Rebuke him and, if he repents, forgive him even seven times a day.(17:3-4)

The followers of Jesus did not recognize him after his resurrection until their eyes were opened by the Spirit Some were overcome with grief, some totally confused, others fearful We do not recognize Christ fully in our own hearts until the Holy Spirit makes him alive in us and overcomes our fear, sorrow, and confusion

QUESTIONS FOR DEEPER THOUGHT

1.We shouldn’t expect anything because we are servants of the Lord. (17:7-10)

2.Within people. (17:20-21)

3.It is a parable of contrast. God will bring about justice quickly for his people who pray to him, unlike the unjust judge. (18:1-8)

4. Zacchaeus was seen as a sinner and Jesus said he came to seek and to save what was lost. (19:5-10)

5.Jesus exposed their hypocrisy, pride, and position. They tried to trap him with questions about the Scripture but it never worked because Jesus always answered with knowledge, wisdom, and authority. (20)

6.People would hate the disciples because of their relationship with Jesus but if they stood firm they would gain life. (21:17-19)

7. The bread and wine would always be a way of remembering and honoring Jesus for his sacrifice, shed blood and broken body. (22:17-20)

8. Satan wanted to totally grind Peter into the ground but Jesus prayed for him that his faith would not fail. (22:3132)

9. The spiritual and physiological burden of going to the cross was so great he sweat blood. He told his disciples to wake up and pray that they would not fall into temptation. (23:40-46)
