Dear Member, With frigid temperatures and a snow-covered course, we’re going to try to heat things up inside the Clubhouse this month with a flurry of activities including our Father & Daughter Dinner. This year’s event will look a bit different from those held in year’s past but with beautiful decorations and an amazing menu, we hope to make it a memorable and magical evening for daughters and their dads.

After an incredibly difficult year, I think we all deserve some good news. That good news came in the form of a WIN and now our Kansas City Chiefs are heading back to the Super Bowl! It’s going to be a very exciting event. We’ll be closing the Clubhouse a few hours early on Super Bowl Sunday so that our entire staff can get home and get ready to cheer on our hometown team.

Dear Member, I hope this newsletter finds you safe and sound. I also hope you are enjoying your winter. Except for a 4-inch snow event around the first of the year, Mother Nature has been pretty good to us. That snow event actually provided us some much-needed moisture. We will see what the rest of the winter has in store for us as far as snowfall.

When the course is covered with snow, we are relegated to working inside. This work includes refurbishing golf course accessories like tee markers, planter boxes, posts for golf cart traffic, etc. We sand all of these items down, repaint them and apply a new finish to make them look like new. We also take this opportunity to inventory flags, flagsticks, cups, rope, stakes and tee markers to make sure we have enough on hand to get through the upcoming golf season.

A lot of training takes place this time of the year. We review what we learned during the prior season and brush up on safety procedures for current tasks such as using chainsaws and wood chippers. Seminars are offered to keep our certifications up to date, allowing us to apply chemicals and keep our superintendent and assistant status current.

All of these seminars are being done virtually this year due to COVID.

As the snow melted away, we were able to get started on our tree management program. This includes pruning and trimming away dead wood from existing trees, removing dead trees and removing trees which pose an issue with growing healthy turfgrass by the amount of shade and reduction of air movement that the given tree produces.

Blade trimming all of our creek banks is also done this time of year.

As you can see, we stay pretty busy even during the winter months. Stay warm and stay safe, and before you know it ‌ spring will be here again.

Golf can be frustrating, but with a little information and some work in the off-season, 2021 can Josh Nahm be the best season you’ve ever had! You’ll first need to understand that GOLF IS DIFFICULT ...

Pros miss 40% of fairways You can't expect to be great if you believe you should hit every fairway, every green and make every putt!

Doing so gives you unrealistic expectations and makes the game less enjoyable.

How do you get better? In order to improve, you first need to distinguish between things you know and things you think.

An example of this would be knowing that you tend to hit behind the ball or knowing that you slice the ball vs. thinking that you need to turn your hips more or thinking that you sway off the ball.

There are things that a good instructor would be able to help you with in terms of how you move your body and the club, but let’s focus on these four items: Center Contact

Club Face Control

Path of Swing

Center contact is imperative for distance. Make sure to make contact in the center of the face. The GATE DRILL is the best drill I've found to ensure you are striking the ball in the middle of the club face. Try to strike the ball while not touching either tee to ensure center contact.

Controlling the low point is essential for a good iron plan.

PGA tour players have a low point of three to four inches IN FRONT of the ball when they are hitting an iron whereas most amateurs have a low point at the ball or behind it.

An overly open or closed club face at the top of the swing can cause major problems controlling the club face at impact.

Path of swing refers to the general direction the club is moving through impact. A swing moving to the left of target through impact (for right handers), is referred to as “over the top” and produces pulls or slices, depending on the club face. A swing moving to the right of target produces pushes and hooks. You’ll want to keep the path fairly neutral to avoid big curvatures and big misses. Alignment sticks (as shown below) help move your path more to the left or right until it is fairly neutral.

The TOWEL DRILL is one of the best drills I use in order to get proper turf contact. Place a towel two to three inches behind the ball and try to hit the ball without hitting the towel. This steeper approach leads to better iron impact.

With a good grip, get the left wrist (for right handers) flat at the top to ensure your club face is square in the backswing. A great drill is the one shown below placing two alignment sticks (roughly six inches apart) about four feet in front of this player. The goal is to get the ball started between the sticks.

DINING AT THE NATIONAL CLUBHOUSE The National’s Mixed Grill, Dining Room, Watson Library and Veranda are open for dining, BY RESERVATION ONLY, in two-hour windows. Limited dining is available.

Please check in at the Concierge desk no earlier than 10 minutes prior to your reservation time. To-go orders must be placed at least 30 minutes prior to closing. The Deuce Grill is closed for the season and will reopen in spring 2021.

members and guests entering the facilities. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be denied entry.  All associates will wear face masks at all times.  Members and their guests are required to wear a mask in accordance with Platte County's ordinance while inside or outside the buildings (except while actively eating or drinking). This includes the Veranda and Terrace area.  Associates will wash and sanitize their hands frequently throughout service.  Tables and chairs will be sanitized after each seating.  Linen tablecloths at The National Clubhouse will be changed after each seating.  Disposable menus will be used.  Straws and condiments available upon request.  Only contact-less payment via member charge is allowed  Clubhouse restroom touch-points are sanitized regularly throughout the day, according to CDC guidelines.  All members and their guests must maintain proper social distancing at all times.  If you are sick, please stay home.  Practice diligent personal hygiene. Wash your hands.

GOLF OPERATIONS The Deuce Golf Shop and golf facilities are open with the hours of operation and procedures in place:  Golf Shop hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 9a to 5p.  Practice Facility hours: Tuesday through Sunday, 30

THE FITNESS CENTER (for Deuce Activities Members) The following procedures will be strictly enforced. Anyone in repeat violation of these rules could face disciplinary action as well as a suspension of Fitness Center privileges.  The Fitness Center is open from 5a to 10p daily.  Members no longer need to register for group exercise

classes in advance. Members will be signed in by the instructor upon arrival to class.  The minimum age to use the Fitness Center is 14. All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  Proper athletic attire and closed toed athletic shoes must be worn. Bathing suits and sandals will not be permitted.  Sign in at the front desk and log your temperature upon arrival. Each individual must sign in. This will be strictly enforced.  Members only; no guests allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS.  Members may access the facilities using their key fob.  Showers, water fountain and towel service are not available. The water bottle filling station is still active.  Members must maintain a six-foot radius between other members at all times.  Due to Platte County ordinance, masks must be worn at all times while in the facility.  All equipment must be wiped down before and after each use with the provided wipes.  Contact Drew at 401.316.5659 to schedule your personal training sessions.
