Now that August is here, family vacations will start winding down and school shopping will go into high gear. Many of our summer associates are finishing their jobs and getting ready to head back to school. It’s hard to believe how quickly time flies no matter how hard we try to savor the moment.

We hope you’ll have an opportunity to join us at the Club for some of the events we have planned for you this month including Lobsterfest, Men’s Happy Hour, and five Pot o’ Gold Buffets! We CHRIS BREMS also have a lot of golf events scheduled in PRESIDENT August with one of my personal favorites, Clash of Clans, on August 16th and 17th. This friendly competitive event pits members INSIDE the gates of Loch Lloyd vs members OUTSIDE the gates. The Outsiders are defending their 2018 win … who will take home the trophy this year?

As we get excited for the start of college and pro football (let’s go Vikings!), it’s also time to gear up for fall golf events. We will crown Women’s (Gross and Net) Club Champions as well as Senior and Men’s Net Club Champions in August. The Clash of Clans is back this month as well. Members from “inside” the gates take on members from “outside” the gates in a winner-take-all, two-day event. This has become one of the favorite events for those who have played in the past. Sign up now, as slots will fill quickly.

August is also the month where many of our college students head back to school. Be sure to thank them for all of their hard work before they leave.

The Men’s Club Championship took place over the last weekend of July. This event spans three days during which the Club’s best men players square off. This year we had a spectacular finish on Sunday. After 36 holes of competition, there was a three-way tie for the top spot with another player just one shot back. As play unfolded, it became a two-man battle between Michael Hillyard and John Lovell. Coming down the stretch, a late bogey on the 17th hole for Lovell sealed the deal and Michael Hillyard became the 2019 Men’s Club Champion. Congr atulations to Michael and thank you to all who par ticipated.

Loch Lloyd hosts the annual Folds of Honor 5K Walk/Run on September 7th. The race will start at 9a with sign-ups beginning at 8a in front of the Fitness Center. Walk-ups are welcome! August Play Day Schedule During the last three months, we have enjoyed playing and getting to know many new members. Wednesday and Thursday Play Days are designed to attract and challenge play for all ladies and have shown many handicaps on their way down!

The annual two-day Solheim Cup consisted of 28 participants who enjoyed the competition as well as a cocktail gathering and final dinner. The Red Team gave their all, but were defeated by only one point! Congratulations Blue!

Dear Members,

JEFF STEEN, CGCS DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE

I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer thus far. The continued weather challenges remain real as it seems every month we’re setting records. July set heat records, precipitation records and even produced a Gustnado, which caused severe tree damage throughout the property. With all of this said, it certainly made for an interesting July for the Golf Course Maintenance team! Please see the precipitation chart below showing how we are tracking so far this year (we’re above all historical annual averages dating back to the late 1800s).

Now that August is upon us, we are hoping for a few great months of golf ahead. The sod repair work on fairways has finally been completed and even though we are still experiencing jeffs@lochlloyd.com some thinning in certain areas, the overall conditions are much improved. I have been asked by many members on the amount of area that we had to replace. Everyone is surprised to hear that we only re-sodded less than 1% of surface area. Honestly, besides the obvious, the fairways playability and turf conditions are excellent. The programs and practices that have been implemented are working well. This is the time of year when our focus is all about plant health and surviving into the fall. We are happy with the good conditions of the golf course and hope everyone gets the opportunity to get out and enjoy.

Lastly, aeration to the tees, greens and approaches will take place on August 19th and 20th. This will allow us to get the job completed so that everyone may enjoy great golf for the remainder of the season. Don’t forget to get out and play the Sechrest … a fantastic nine holes of golf!

As always, the team appreciates the continued support and patience of the membership as 2019 has been an interesting year with a lot of variables that have directly affected the entire community. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me!

New friendships were forged and fun was had by all who attended our private party at The Monarch Bar on the Plaza on July 19th. Thank you to the ladies who made this road trip so much fun!

Fall Fashion Show! Clothology:135 is the newest boutique in the south Kansas City area! It is

located at 4800 W. 135th Street in Leawood and is owned and operated by Pam Burton.

Pam is excited to present a fashion show for the Home & Garden Club in September. She will be bringing in many styles and provide a small “quiz” for you to take to see where you fall within these styles. It’s a fun way to see what style your personality leans to, then see some fashions that match your style come down the runway! Pam will be talking about trends and how they can be incorporated into your personal style. Lastly, she will bring a small portion of the store for a pop-up boutique. Always fun to have some retail therapy!

What a GREAT celebration we had throughout the Fourth of July week! Many members and guests enjoyed our “Jump Start” Car Show, Bourbon & Bacon Fest, Rockin’ BBQ and Fireworks and our Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast. Thank you to everyone who came out to the Club for all the festivities!
