NESGMPC acquired its first batch of Korea agricultural machinery after being given the opportunity to partner with FIT COREA, the KAMICO local representative in the Philippines. Because they were aware that providing their members with cutting-edge equipment for their farms would be extremely beneficial, NESGMPC decided to trade in tractor implements. In Nueva Ecija, NESGMPC is well-known as a cooperative of seed growers that is continually growing.

Another shipment of agricultural machinery from Korea was dispatched to Julimon International Agri Trading Corporation in Iligan, Mindanao, one of FIT COREA’s reliable dealers. And just a month ago, Julimon International extended their agreement and relationship with FIT COREA as a dealer in the region of Mindanao. The demand for modern agricultural technology is rising as mechanization spreads across the country, but especially in Mindanao, and this has caused many dealers to extend their inventories of machinery in order to meet the demand.

AGRI NEWS PH FARMERS GET P8B AID State-owned lenders Land Bank of the Philippines (Landbank) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) have facilitated the distribution of over P8.2 billion in aid for farmers, as part of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Rice Farmers Financial Assistance Program under the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL). Under Republic Act 11203 or the RTL, rice import tariffs in excess of the P10 billion earmarked annually for the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) could be used to provide financial assistance to palay growers, among other possible options. From March 2019 to 2021, the BOC collected a total of P46.6 billion in rice import duties. “With RCEF, 950,000 farmers now enjoy access to 19,542 units of farm machinery equipment,” it added. The DA also said 220 farm schools have been established since the RCEF’s implementation, bringing the total to 470. The RTL was signed on February 14, 2019, to replace rice import quantitative restrictions with tariffs.

OVER P8 BILLION DOLED OUT TO FARMERS FROM RICE TARIFF PROCEEDS — DOF MANILA, Philippines - The government has distributed more than P8 billion in cash transfers to about one million palay farmers through excess income from rice tariffs, according to the Department of Finance. The DOF yesterday said state-run Land Bank of the Philippines and Development Bank of the Philippines gave out P8.2 billion in direct and unconditional cash aid to rice farmers from 2019 to 2021. Rice farmers also received cash assistance worth P5,000 each in line with the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance of the Department of Agriculture. Under Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law, revenues collected from rice tariffs should pay for the yearly requirement of P10 billion for the Rice Enhancement Competitiveness Fund. The RCEF also invests P3 billion in the Philippine Rice Research Institute for the propagation of inbred seeds that rice farmers can use. The RCEF pours P1 billion in state-owned banks to finance a credit facility for palay farmers and their cooperatives, and another P1 billion in various agencies to develop mechanisms on modern farming techniques and rice crop production. For the year, the agency has increased its revenue total from rice imports by 19 percent to P7.35 billion as of May 13, from P6.2 billion a year ago.

AGRI NEWS PH COCONUT INDUSTRY EO TO BENEFIT 3.5 MILLION FARMERS MANILA, Philippines - President Duterte’s issuance of an executive order on coconut farmers and industry development plan would benefit 3.5 million farmers, Sen. Cynthia Villar said. Villar over the weekend said the EO approving the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan is a “Welcome development” as it would result in the release of a P75-billion trust fund from coco levy assets to bankroll the development of the coconut industry. Republic Act 11524 or the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act, authored by Villar, was signed into law on Feb. 26, 2021, and became effective on March 13, 2021. Under EO 172, Duterte approved the CFIDP, which was mandated to be prepared by the Philippine Coconut Authority under RA 11524, aimed at boosting the competitiveness of coconut farmers in the country. Villar said the EO aims to boost the competitiveness of local coconut farmers, noting how it would help alleviate the lives of the country’s coconut farmers from the 68 coconut-producing provinces. In signing the EO on June 2, the President acknowledged the significance of having a plan for the development of the coconut industry. Author: DA Communications Group | 13 June 2022 Source: https://www.philstar.com/headlines/2022/06/13/2187930/coconut-industry-eo-benefit-35-million-farmers

“There is a need to approve the CFIDP to increase overall productivity and income of coconut farmers, alleviate poverty, and achieve the twin objectives of rehabilitating and modernizing the coconut industry to attain social equity,” read the EO. Villar said the coconut industry has a very high potential for growth through productivity enhancement, diversification and industry value-addition.

OVER 900 VILLAGES DECLARED ASF-FREE; VAX TRIALS ONGOING MANILA - Experts have been working around the clock to finish clinical trials on a vaccine to stop the spread of the African swine fever, even as around 932 barangays have already been declared ASF-free nationwide, the Department of Agriculture said Wednesday. In a virtual briefing, DA Secretary William Dar said the result of the second phase trial will be out by the end of June. “If this is the same result as in this Phase 1, we will recommend the massive vaccination of all the hogs that we have all over the country,” he said. The Department of Science and Technology is also looking into another locally-developed ASF vaccine, which may be released either by 2023 or 2024. At the Laging Handa Public briefing on Wednesday, DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara said the BioAssets Corp. is spearheading the ongoing research, intending to first develop ASF-testing kits, as well as establish mobile laboratories for speedy response in case of further outbreaks. “They will prioritize the test kits, these test kits, probably by end of the year or early next year, and then for the vaccine, they might spend two years for that, so maybe by the end of 2023, or 2024, we may probably see it,” she said in Filipino. Since the onset of ASF before the coronavirus disease pandemic, the DA has secured the implementation of repopulation programs.
