Brixton received a 5in1 Rice Mill for their inventory as one of FIT COREA’s dealers. The LeeHwa Rice Milling & Polishing Machine is one of the Pioneer Impeller type in the Philippines and definitely useful for farming.

The LH 5001MGOLD Rice milling and Polishing machine of LEEHWA company, has been established in the Philippines since 2006 and is now leading Rice milling machine in the country nationwide. One very good reason why it can be profitable is that the mill has a high milling recovery of 68 percent. This means that for every 100 kilos of palay milled, 68 kilos of polished rice is recovered. This is much higher than the usual milling recovery of other small rice mills that ranges from only 55 to 60 percent.

RP/Japan Collab for Market Driven Vegetable Sector

Author: DA-AFID | 23 December 2022

Department of Agriculture (DA) Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chief Representative to the Philippines Sakamoto Takema signed on December 23, 2022 the Minutes of the Meeting to Amend the Records of Discussion for the technical cooperation project of DA and JICA on Market Driven Enhancement of Vegetable Value Chain in the Philippines (MVC2).

The project, which commenced in early 2022, aims to strengthen vegetable value chain models in selected municipalities of Benguet and Quezon provinces, as well as in Metro Manila.

The signed minutes of meeting contained modifications, including an updated project framework based on the detailed planning survey conducted lat August to September, as well as pilot projects for implementation.

According to Panganiban, the MVC2 project will develop inclusive business models that will contribute to increasing the income of vegetable farmers in the country.

Aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. the project will focus on rebuilding value chains in order to achieve food security and sufficiency.

“With the increasing food prices and inefficiencies in the food supply chain due to high cost of logistics and food distribution, we need to find ways by which we can lower the production costs, deliver goods to the markets, and make it ore affordable to the consuming public,” Panganiban said.

For his part, Sakamoto explained that the long withstanding cooperation for agriculture between the Philippines and JICA has focused on the production side of value chain, which includes the establishment of agricultural infrastructures and irrigation systems.

He added that as JICA recognizes the importance of addressing the development needs in other aspects of the food value chain.

“This technical cooperation is a testament to this move, as JICA considers

that this market-oriented approach is also essential to to address the issues related to income generation, job creation and disparity mitigation among others,” he said.

Sakamoto added that the signing is a good Christmas gift to the Philippines.

“We envision our project to provide solutions to the pressing issues on food value chain, and eventually contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of Filipino farmers,” he said.

The signing was witnessed by Bureau of Plant industry OIC-Director Glenn Panganiban, Field Operations Services OIC-Director U-Nichols Manalo, Chief of Special Project Coordination and Management Division Angelita Martir, JICA Senior Representative Shimizu Mikako, and First Secretary for Agriculture of the Embassy of Japan Jumpei Tachikawa. ### (Adora D. No Importation of Selected Agriculture Commodities Next Year DA

Author: DA-AFID | 23 December 2022

Source: Department of Agriculture website www.da.gov.ph

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will not import onions for the remainder of the year as the harvest is expected to begin in the upcoming weeks, Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban said during a press conference on December 19, 2022.

Panganiban said onion supply is not enough but the Department is not considering importation, since farmers will begin to harvest in January and February. He added that the DA is mobilizing the Kadiwa program to stabilize prices of onions.

Upon investigation, DA monitored supply from the cold storage facilities.

“We found out that there are smugglers that are keeping their stock in warehouses,” Panganiban said.

Assistant Secretary for Inspectorate and Enforcement James Layug reported that the DA has seized about P500 million worth of smuggled agricultural products in the previous months.

Layug explained that they would file cases to five (5) consignees for violat-

https://www.da.gov.ph/no-importation-of-agriculture-commodities-next-year-da/

ing Republic Act No. 10845 or Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act.

“We will coordinate with the Department of Justice, with Secretary Remulla, para i-address iyong legal aspect sa pag-curb ng agricultural smuggling activities at mga identified smugglers – pero we still need to work within the law. With all the legal teams that we have right now, we will use it in order to go after them,” Asec. Layug said.

He also urged the public to work with the Department in reporting agri-smugglers.

Based on their data, Layug said around 300 metric tons or 300,000 kilograms of onions seized and confiscated by a composite team composed of the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Manila International Container Port – Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (MICP-CIIS), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection

Group (PNP-CIDG), and the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

For rice, Undersecretary Mercedita Sombilla assured that there will be no supply shortage next year.

“We don’t have shortage of supply. What happens probably is a lower beginning stock of rice,” Usec. Sombilla said.

She added that DA is making every effort to balance importation and increase local production in an effort to stabilize and even reduce the cost of commodities.

The rice program will have an additional P4.1 billion for its fertilizer subsidy program. DA is still carefully determining how much will go to organic and inorganic fertilizer.

The agency is working to finalize the purchase of fertilizers through a government-to-government arrangement by January, which will be distributed through fertilizer vouchers. ### (Kristel Joyce Merle, DA-AFID)

Kadiwa ng Pasko provides affordable and quality agri produce

Source: Department of Agriculture website www.da.gov.ph

Author: DA-AFID | 19 December 2022 https://www.da.gov.ph/kadiwa-ng-pasko-provides-affordable-and-quality-agri-produce/

The Kadiwa ng Pasko will carry on even after the holidays to serve Filipino food producers and consumers nationwide.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., confirmed this during the opening of the Kadiwa site in Valenzuela City over the weekend.

The President added that from the 20 stalls initially opened, there are now 350 Kadiwa sites nationwide providing quality, safe and affordable produce.

In his message, the President Marcos stressed that the Kadiwa ng Pasko, as a marketing initiative of the government, will continue to assist the Filipino people even after the busiest season of the year.

“Kahit na matapos na ang Pasko, ipapagpatuloy po natin ito para merong

pagkukuhanan ang ating kababayan ng mas murang bilihin,” the President explained.

“Ito pong Kadiwa ng Pasko ay ang aming munting pagtulong para naman ay maging mas masaya ang ating Pasko itong taon na ito,” he added.

Sales for the Valenzuela City Kadiwa reached P334,570 for rice, lowland and highland vegetables, as well as other food essentials.

Other sellers, who participated, are Agripreneur Farmers & Producers Association, Sugar Regulatory Administration, San Jose Matulid United Farmers Association, Rural Finance Club Cooperative, Brgy Atbu Women’s Association, Bicol Agripreneur Food Products, Binukawan-Bicol Marketing Cooperative, Mama Agnes Enterprises L. Sanchez Farm, IsDA on the Go

and Global Essentials.

With its success and huge impact, the 2022 Year End Poll of PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. cites the Kadiwa ng Pasko as the most approved program of the government in the 4th quarter of the year.

The national caravan, being undertaken with the support of other national government agencies including the Departments of Trade (DTI), Social Welfare (DSWD), and Labor (DOLE), provides access to basic goods at low price.

Kadiwa is the brainchild of the Department of Agriculture, established to provide urban residents fresh food items at lower price. It also gives food producers an opportunity to be agri-preneurs and directly sell their fresh harvests. ###
