ASIA PRECISE DIRECT SEEDER

ACTUAL DEMONSTRATION The Philippines Center for postharvest development and Mechanization (PhilMech) and Philippine Rice Research Institute (Philrice) in collaboration with Fit Corea Trading Phils., Inc. conducted a demo of Precision Rice Seeder in San Roque, Pampanga. This technology demonstration of Precision Rice Seeder was participated by the farmers and beneficiaries of the machine as part of RCEF training. The members did the planting themselves, using an Asia precise Direct Seeder for direct seeding.

The goal of the demonstration farm is to observe and document the differences in cost and yield of each planting method so that farmers can compare which can provide low cost and high yield and income. What member farmers like will undoubtedly be replicated in the following fields. Aside from crop establishment, there is also a varietal demonstration in the area to test the performance of new rice varieties.

5IN1 RICE MILLING & POLISHING MACHINE PURCHASING AND DEMONSTRATION Another good customer is Ms. Lorna Socol, an OFW from Chicago America, purchased one unit of 5in1 rice milling and polishing machine to start their own milling business last July 20, 2022. During the demonstration of the machine to brother of Ms. Lorna Socol, the Fit corea team showed him how to use it and taught him about the various parts of the machine. Ms. Vida Ambrosio was a resident of Mambusao, Capiz, where the machine would be delivered. The LH 5001MGOLD Rice milling and Polishing

machine of LEEHWA company, has been established in the Philippines since 2006 and now the leading Rice milling machine in the country nationwide. One very good reason why it can be profitable is that the mill has a high milling recovery of 68 percent. This means that for every 100 kilos of palay milled, 68 kilos of polished rice is recovered. This is much higher than the usual milling recovery of other small rice mills that ranges from only 55 to 60 percent.

PBBM GIVES FIRST DIRECTIVES TO DA, LISTS INCREASING FOOD SUPPLY AS PRIORITY

https://www.da.gov.ph/pbbm-gives-firstdirectives-to-da-lists-increasing-foodsupply-as-priority/

President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. directed the Department of Agriculture (DA) Executive Committee to fully prepare for the impending food crisis that is already affecting other countries. “We are already in a disadvantageous position in terms of food supply. On the other hand, the Masagana 200 targets a 10-ton yield of hybrid rice per hectare, with production cost of P7.82 per kilogram. For the immediate and shortterm, he said that there is a need to ensure the country’s food supply for the rest of the year.

He recognized that the previous administration has a good model, but with the changing world and new technologies, he said it would be necessary to remake the model with similar concepts. President Marcos also encouraged the Executive Committee to come up with a multi-year plan for the sector and to identify concerns that will require executive orders, other legislations, and even budget.

To address current challenges faced by the poultry sector, particularly the imbalanced demand and supply ratio for chicken meat and egg, the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) met with industry stakeholders on July 11, 2022. “The very first thing we need to do is bring down cost of production, and still make it profitable to encourage our stakeholders to continue producing amidst the challenges in the sector”, Evangelista said. Data from the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) show that 346 million poultry heads slaughtered from January to June 2021 —when “lockdown” is being implemented in various parts of the country —as compared to 2022 data of 349 million poultry heads slaughtered.

“Subject to further analysis of disposable household income, the 2021 slaughter data catering to 2022 needs where there has been opening of markets, such as hotels, restaurants and other institutional buyers, shows obvious discrepancy against available supply,” Director Morales said. An intensified early reporting of farmers was also recommended, with a call for an increase in indemnification value and shortened process of indemnification for affected birds. According to United Broilers Raisers Association president Elias Jose Inciong, the BAI should consider streamlining indemnification process to enable the affected growers to immediately resume production and recover.

DA – 12 URGES AUTHORITIES TO INTENSIFY BIOSECURITY VS. ASF; SOCOT POSES BIOSECURITY CHALLENGES http://rfu12.da.gov.ph/.../6594-da-12urges-authorities?fbclid=IwAR1SDVfXvo8gIVn2yHap5EDX4edTevG091tJp5 3gYKxHJ9cjA1QnmUA4IY

The Department of Agriculture (DA) RFO XII teamed up with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), National Meat Inspection Service and the Local Government Units to strengthen the Anti - African Swine Fever (ASF) campaign by intensifying biosecurity practice in the region. Dr. Flora Bigot, provincial veterinarian of South Cotabato, underscored that despite the lack of veterinarians in the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet), there would be no exceptions in the inspection of shipments and animal testing as monitoring and surveillance in the region must be intensified.

“Because the region is one of the biggest producers of hogs, gagamitin natin ang mga disinfection trucks to make sure na lahat ng mga lumalabas na shipments ay madisinfect at mainspect,” Dra. Flora Bigot, provincial veterinarian of South Cotabato, said. The trucks were given to the local government units of South Cotabato, North Cotabato, and General Santos City. Further, this initiative is part of DA’s efforts to curb ASF cases, revive the local hog business, and restrict the spread of the disease despite the difficulties associated with implementing biosecurity in the region. PHILIPPINES, KOREA COLLABORATE FOR AGRI-MECHANIZATION Agriculture Assistant Secretary for Operations Engr. Arnel de Mesa met with members of the Technology Advice and Solutions from Korea (TASK) Expert Mission led by Mr. Dong Ho (Eric) Song of the Korea Agriculture Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO) to discuss the implementation of the TASK Program for the Agricultural Machinery Industry in the Philippines at the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Quezon City, on July 29. During the meeting Asec. De Mesa expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation of the Korean experts in the modernization agenda of the government. “We thank you for partnering with us as we aim to increase production through mechanized and modern farm systems,” he said.

De Mesa stressed that DA will fully support the full implementation of the TASK Program to improve the capacities of the Philippinemanufacturing industry in product development, to meet global standards. The project, to be funded by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korea Institute of Advance Technology (KIAT), targets to transfer Korean agriculture machinery technology to support resolution of technical difficulties and assist machine improvement, process improvement, prototyping support for Philippine local agricultural machinery and smart-farm related companies. Jointly implemented by the DAPhilippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization

(PhilMech), and the Korea Association of Machinery Industry (KOAMI) and KAMICO, the project will provide technical coaching and consultations, and extend best practices knowledge to beneficiaries. As part of the mission launch, 10 local manufacturing agri-machinery local companies will be selected to be supported by the TASK program. Initially, 20 Philippine-based companies were surveyed. From July 26-29, 2022, the Korean TASK Team, together with PhilMech, conducted onsite inspections, online and one-on-one meetings with several Philippine Agri-machinery manufacturing companies as part of the expert mission.
