AT TH E OKLAHOMA ATHLETIC CENTER

9

For the residents of Oklahoma City, the facility that now houses the Oklahoma Athletic Center signifies something different for each who has walked through its doors over the past fifty years. For some, it holds memories of time spent together as a family, an evening of recreational activities concluded by a quick stop for ice cream on the way home. For others, it was the place to hang out with friends and have a friendly game of three-onthree – something that often continued into adulthood. No matter one’s memories of the old Lighthouse, it always was a place apart from the noise of the outside world – a place to cherish the time and community created within its walls. Today, the Oklahoma Athletic Center (OAC) houses over 25,000 square feet of fitness facility with both indoor and outdoor training spaces and a variety of state-of-the-art equipment. OAC Fitness & Performance offers a total health experience that includes personal and small group training, group exercise classes, outdoor sand volleyball courts, indoor turf, and more. As the Center continues to renovate, there are plans to add an Olympic size pool, a therapy pool and eight hardwood basketball courts, providing something for everyone! OAC also plans to have a wellness partner adjacent to the Center who will provide medical offerings such as IV therapy, cryotherapy, and more. At the foundation of OAC Fitness & Performance is the concept of “elite effort”, an approach that doesn’t represent superiority, but rather a mindset or self-selected standard of excellence. The facility, trainers and staff have created a space where members can rise to be the best version of themselves. OAC’s overall goal is to create a community

“At the foundation of OAC Fitness & Performance is the concept of “elite effort”, an approach that doesn’t represent superiority, but rather a mindset or self-selected standard of excellence.” of individuals who strive to reach their peak performance in all areas of their lives. Because of this total mind-body concept, OAC is the ideal facility for competitive athletes to train, and in early 2020, Oklahoma’s Energy FC designated the Oklahoma Athletic Center as its official strength and conditioning facility. As part of the organization’s elite effort dedication, they’ve also partnered with Justin Wren and the Fight for the Forgotten, a program with a mission of eradicating bullying through awareness and prevention tactics. OAC is proud to collaborate with this anti-bullying initiative to ensure that the facility is an inclusive, safe place for the entire community. Perhaps the number one thing that makes the Oklahoma Athletic Center the elite athletic facility it is today is its team of dedicated owners, management, staff, and trainers. These hardworking individuals strive to provide their members with the best support and experience possible each and every day. The OAC membership and staff would like to say a special thank you for the owners, Blaine Dyer and Andrew Schroeder, without whom none of this would be possible. Their constant support of the OAC vision has brought the facility back to life, creating a cornerstone for the community once again.

For more information about the Oklahoma Athletic Center, find them online at www.oacfitness.com or visit them today to meet the staff and see the facility for yourself! The Oklahoma Athletic Center is located at 3333 West Hefner Rd., Oklahoma City, OK 73120. The Oklahoma Athletic Center would like to publicly thank the incredible management, staff, trainers, partners, construction team, and more – those listed below create and sustain the excellence of OAC. VIETNAMESE SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS Ingredients 8 Large Rice Paper Sheets 4 oz. Instant Vermicelli Noodles 1 lb. cooked shrimp cut into small pieces 1/2 cup fresh cilantro chopped

1/2 cup fresh mint chopped 1/2 cup fresh basil chopped 2 carrots sliced thinly with a vegetable peeler 1/2 cucumber cut julienne

For the sauce 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup hoisin sauce 2 tablespoons peanut butter 1 tablespoon Sriracha hot sauce

1/4 tsp cinnamon Instructions

Boil some water and pour over the noodles in a bowl. Allow them to sit for about three minutes (or until softened), then drain and run cool water over them. Arrange all of your ingredients so they are easily accessed. Fill a large container or skillet with some warm water, and dip one rice paper roll into it for about five seconds. If it’s not completely malleable after five seconds, don’t worry- the residual water will seep into it while you are assembling the rolls and make it easy to roll up. Place the softened rice paper on a plate, and begin layering your ingredients on the bottom half of the paper. Begin with the noodles, then add the carrots, cucumbers, herbs, and finally the shrimp. Then, fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling and roll up like a burrito. Repeat for the remaining rice paper rolls. Mix all sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. Serve rolls with the sauce for dipping.

SPRING CLEANINING WITH MEANING Spring cleaning is a great time to clear out anything that is no longer serving you so you can make way for new ideas, perspectives, intentions, and desires. To make this process a little more enjoyable, first set the mood for the space you are about to tackle. Put on your favorite upbeat song and diffuse a relaxing essential oil blend to calm your mind and keep you relaxed throughout the process. Here are our top cleaning and organizing tips from our friends Brooke and Taylor at Relax and Revamp.

TIPS BY: Relax and Revamp PHOTOGRAPHY | Jordan Mobley

Cleaning hack- if you have sticky residue from stickers, labels, etc., you can use a citrus essential oil blend and rub it on the affected area with a towel and it’ll come right off!

22

Deep Cleaning

Pick one space a week and tackle it. What spaces need the most work? Add those in between easier spaces! These spaces can be as simple as one cabinet. If a full room or closet is too overwhelming- simplify it.

Junk Drawer

Look through that dreaded junk drawer. We all have them but try a seasonal cleanout so they don’t get too out of hand!

Think Green

Think green while cleaning and organizing! What small ways can you add a more “clean green” change in your home? Nontoxic products, more glass, less plastic, etc.

Kitchen

Go through your pantry and refrigerator. Wipe down the shelves, and throw away any old items. You’ll be amazed how many items you’ll find have been expired for months.. OR YEARS! Maximize cabinet space in your home with turntables or risers - these are great for items like hair care, spices, oils, etc.

Closet When was the last time you cleaned out your kiddos closet? Or your own? Pull everything out. Wipe down the drawers and shelves. Start with clothes, then shoes, then accessories. Sort items into donate, sell, or trash piles. If your closet is too small to functionally hold all your belongings, try creating a seasonal storage method.

Makeup Go through your cosmetics drawer or medicine cabinet and throw away any expired items. If you have organizing inserts in your drawers and find that they are constantly sliding around, use “museum glue” from the container store or Velcro to secure them in their places! Cleaning hack- if you’re contemplating if you should hold onto something and you have not used it in the past six months to one year- donate, sell, or purge it. Don’t over think it, you won’t miss it!

V A LLIANC E BA N K UNCOVERING THE IMPORTANCE OF FINANCIAL HEALTH IN 2020 ARTICLE: Samantha Rosenfeld

Much like physical health, financial health is a fundamentally crucial part of creating total mind and body wellness. Not only does a financially healthy lifestyle alleviate harmful stress, but it also lays the foundation for a safe, secure future. Valliance Bank, headquartered in Oklahoma City, is educating and inviting the local community to access healthy and stable financial futures. Valliance was established in 2004 with a focus on financially partnering with business owners and executives throughout the community. Valliance Bank is uniquely positioned to make quick decisions, offer unparalleled customer service, and a personalized banking experience.

In 2020, the fastest growing business segment across the United States is comprised of women business owners, contributing over $1.8 trillion to the economy each year. Yet it’s also been reported that women receive only 7% of the venture funds available for startups. In recent years, female entrepreneurs asked for roughly $35,000 less in business financing than men and men receive an average loan of $5,000 more than women. Valliance Bank is changing the way women business owners bank by providing financial guidance, education, and resources to improve their financial health easily. By making the process of funding less intimidating, coupled with extensive resources and customized support, Valliance Bank can partner with businesses of all sizes to create a healthy financial future.

“In 2020, the fastest growing business segment across the United States is comprised of women business owners...”

“On March 8, 2019, in honor of International Women’s Day, the organization launched the Valliance Bank Women Trailblazer movement...” Relationship banking is an overarching concept for the Valliance Bank team. The principle guides the organization’s loyalty and customer service by fully understanding each individual’s goals and objectives. Together, both parties can strategize and develop a business plan that will bring future financial goals to fruition. This principle allows Valliance Bank to act as a robust partner, growing relationships over and above the typical transactions that usually occur within a bank. If a patron needs help setting up their mobile banking app or has questions about a business loan application, a Valliance Bank employee is always ready to assist! Valliance Bank is also shining a spotlight on phenomenal women in business throughout the community.

On March 8, 2019, in honor of International Women’s Day, the organization launched the Valliance Bank Women Trailblazer movement, a tribute to the amazing women business owners and entrepreneurs who are consistently blazing a trail for their fellow females to follow to success. CRYOBA ROKC S E RV E S UP RECOV E RY S E RVICE S FOR E V E RY TA S T E ARTICLE: SAMANTHA ROSENFELD PHOTO: DANIELLE SHEARON | @DANI_G_PHOTOGRAPHY

Oklahoma City welcomed its newest addition to the wellness community when CryoBarOKC officially opened its doors this February. The CryoBarOKC wellness experience is highly beneficial for everyone, no matter what their activity level. The services can radically improve different areas of one’s life. CryoBarOKC offers a variety of recovery and wellness services including Whole Body Cryotherapy, Red Light and Vibration Therapy, Compression Therapy, and Cryoskin 3.0 treatments. During a Whole Body Cryotherapy treatment, the body is exposed to extremely low temperatures for approximately 2-3 minutes. The blood leaves your extremities and rushes to your core to keep your vital organs protected. The body reacts to the cold by undergoing vasoconstriction which allows the blood to become super oxygenated which then rushes back through the body once you step out of the cryochamber. Among the many benefits of this treatment is a decrease in inflammation, relief from chronic pain and migraines, an increase of energy, and overall better sleep. Light therapy involves the delivery of concentrated wavelengths of natural light to your skin without dangerous UV rays or excess heat, causing a strengthening of cell mitochondria. Our medical grade LEDs improve ATP energy production, which is the source of energy for every cell in the body. Light therapy is FDA approved for chronic joint pain, slow healing wounds, reducing wrinkles, hair loss, and acne treatment. It can help decrease inflammation, smooth skin tone, and is helpful in healing skin conditions while simultaneously enhancing mood and mental clarity. Infrared Therapy stimulates collagen production, which helps rebuild cartilage and repair muscle tissue. It has even been shown to reduce pain from sore muscles and injuries.

CRYOBAR OWNER, WENDY MILLER

Vibration Therapy activates the cardiovascular, lymphatic, hormonal, and nervous system simultaneously, which helps to filter waste, dead cells, excess protein and toxins out of the body. NormaTec Compression & Recovery helps reduce muscle soreness and fatigue while improving circulation and mobility. CryoBarOKC is proud to offer Cryoskin 3.0 treatments. CryoSkin facials help stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, Cryoslimming permanently destroys fat cells, and Cryotoning helps to speed up metabolism, reduce cellulite, and improve collagen production. CryobarOKC’s unique approach to wellness allows you to try a variety of services at your convenience. Much like diet and exercise, a regular wellness routine will provide faster, better

results; however, individuals can still see the benefits of the service after just one treatment. Upon arrival, a wellness specialist will bring you on a brief tour of the facility and answer all questions you may have regarding the offered services and their benefits. The facility itself is a welcoming, community-oriented space that encourages conversation and connection. Ready to try it for yourself? First-time customers can try Cryotherapy, Red Light & Vibration and Compression Therapy for $30! For more information, visit www.cryobarokc.com or follow CryoBarOKC on Instagram at @cryobarokc to stay up-to-date on the latest developments and promotions. Visit CryoBarOKC at 7302 N. Western, Oklahoma City, OK, 73116 or give them a call at (405)-879-2445.
