Rihanna debuts baby bump on star-studded Met Gala blue carpet
Last month pop icon Rihanna showed off her baby bump after her third pregnancy was announced on a star-studded Met Gala blue carpet. By Jessica Coates
The singer and make-up mogul, who revealed her second pregnancy during the 2023 Super Bowl half-time show, was seen rushing into a New York hotel hours before the gala, while her partner ASAP Rocky made his entrance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The couple, who already share two children, added another headline moment when Rocky, also a 2025 Met Gala co-chair, arrived holding a diamond-studded umbrella and wearing a custom look by AWGE, his own creative agency.
“It feels amazing, you know. It’s time that we show the people what we was cooking up,” he said. “And I’m glad everybody’s happy for us ’cause we definitely happy.”
Rihanna, a Met Gala regular who arrived later, opted for a Marc Jacobs dress which highlighted her growing baby bump with a boned corseted bodice and cropped suit jacket.
The ensemble was completed with an oversized hat and maroon polka-dotted necktie.
The Met Gala, known as fashion’s biggest night, is held on the first Monday in May and celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition at the New York museum.
This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, casts an eye back over 300 years of Black fashion, the concept of black dandyism and its lasting impact on contemporary style.

‘I don’t think it needs to change’
The Radio 1 broadcaster and former The Saturdays star says she’s “not in a different category” when it comes to style, now she’s a mum. By Lara Owen
As a performer, fashion has always been at the forefront of Mollie King’s mind. “I like things to be quite classic and quite timeless,” she says. And how she dresses her two girls, Annabella and Liliana, is no different.
After the success of her first children’s clothing line Maybe Baby, King has now designed a line for young children named Maybe Junior, and is as much a reflection of her personal style as it is her new identity as a mum.
“I don’t think [my style] has changed loads,” she reflects since becoming a mum. “If I go into a store, I’m probably going to pick out the same things before being a mum as after.” But she does admit she’s spent “a lot of time in leggings since being a mum.
“You just want something that’s comfortable and that you can throw on.”
Still, for King, being a parent doesn’t mean abandoning your sense of self. “Some of [my
friends] say, ‘I don’t know how to dress now that I’m a mum.’ And I always say, I don’t think it needs to change. I think you should just dress for you –you’re not in a different category.
“You should always just dress for what makes you feel the best version of yourself.”
King gave birth to her second daughter, Liliana, in January this year, joining big sister Annabella, whose emerging style sense is already keeping King on her toes. “She’s incredibly opinionated,” King laughs. “She’ll say, ‘Not that one, Mummy. I’m going to wear this one.’ And she’s the boss – I let her wear whatever she wants.”
Luckily, Annabella is a devoted fan of her mum’s designs. “She loves the collection,” King says, singling out a cream polka-dot matching set and a stripy orange one as her current wardrobe obsessions. “I can’t get her out of them.”
The decision to create a children’s clothing line felt like a natural progression for King.

“It’s something I’m living and breathing at the moment,” she says, explaining how as a new mum, she found herself frustrated by the lack of pieces that were both cute and functional.
“Getting your little one out the door is hard enough,” she says. “If you’ve managed to have a shower and get them dressed, you’re winning. So I wanted to design pieces that made parenting just that little bit easier.”
What began with Maybe Baby – a brand tailored to babies and toddlers – quickly grew into something bigger after a wave of feedback from parents. “So many people were saying, ‘Can you extend this to older children as well?’” King recalls. “That’s why we created Maybe Junior. It’s been received so well, and that feeling is just incredible.”
As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, King was hands-on throughout the design process – from picking prints and testing fabrics to ensuring everything washes well and lasts.
“I’ve always wanted to create products that are long-lasting, soft on the skin and just really pretty and practical,” she says. “Those two things have to balance – and that’s not always easy – but I really think we’ve accomplished that with this collection.”
While the collection was designed with children in mind, King does say she sometimes gets jealous of Annabella’s outfits. “There’s a peplum top with a wide-leg trouser set that’s so adorable and so trendy,” she says with a grin, “I’m like, I wish we could create a mum version of it!”
And yes, she’s thought about it. “Never say never,” King laughs, when asked if an adult collection might be in her future, “at the moment, I’m so dedicated to Maybe Baby and Maybe Junior, but I’ve loved being so hands-on. I’m learning every day – what fabrics work well together, what’s more hard-wearing… It’s been an amazing experience.”
Her approach to children’s fashion is a true reflection of her own timeless style. “With little ones, there’s an opportunity to be more playful. There are lots of patterns and colourful pieces,” she says. But colour doesn’t mean the pieces are trend-led. “That classic feel is really important to me,” King says. “I want to make things I’m proud of, and that my girls will be proud of too. Maybe one day they’ll say to their friends, ‘Mum was part of that.’ That means a lot.”
Like any working parent, King is navigating the
ever-shifting balance of family life and her career. “I’ve had to become a lot more efficient with my time,” she says. “The first time around, changing a nappy or packing a bag could take forever. Now it’s like: nappy, outfit, let’s go. I’m more confident because I’ve done it before.”
Being on maternity leave has made King reconsider her work-life balance: “Going forward, I just want to work on things I’m passionate about,” she says, “things I can throw my heart and soul into. There’s just less time now, and I want to be present for the girls.”
Whether or not an adult line ever comes to fruition, for now, King is enjoying seeing Annabella – and soon Liliana – wear the very pieces she’s dreamed up. “To see her actually wearing is amazing.”

TINFERTILITY EXPLAINED

his is when a couple cannot get pregnant (conceive) despite having regular unprotected sex. Most couples take their fertility for granted ...until they cannot get pregnant. Around 1 in 7 couples may have difficulty conceiving.
Causes of infertility:
Female infertility 30%, male infertility 30%, mixed male female infertility 20%, unexplained infertility 20%.
Why do infertility problems occur?
1. Timing of intercourse. Probability of conception is maximum in the three days up to and including the day of ovulation.
2. Ovulation.
3. Egg quality.
4. Tubal disease.
5. Sperm quantity and quality.
6. Uterine pathology.
7. Hormonal reasons.
In women, infertility declines steeply after the age of 35 to 37 and spontaneous abortions (miscarriages) increase steeply at the same time. Women’s ovarian reserve, that is the number of eggs (follicle number) declines very gradually from birth then rapidly from age 35 until the menopause.
When to seek help?
1. Irregular or infrequent periods. These can also be short cycles or unpredictable irregular cycles.
2. Miscarriage.
The rate of miscarriages is 15-20% if under 35, 50% if 40 years old and 80% if over 42 years old.
3. If previous medical treatment, for example chemotherapy has been received, a woman should seek help earlier.
4. If there is a family history of early menopause.
5. Previous gynae or abdominal surgery.
IVF is an option. However, it has its limitations.
Live birth rate per IVF cycle is approximately:
• 30% for 35 - 37 year olds
• less than 20% for 38 - 40 year olds
• and approximately 6% for 41 to 42-year-old females.

THE FERTILITY CENTRE
Formerly the Assisted Conception Unit, The Fertility Centre is a longstanding centre of excellence for fertility treatment and care at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. In 2021 they enlarged the Centre with a new satellite service at West Middlesex University Hospital, extending patient care and convenient access across West London.
The Centre provides a broad and comprehensive range of fertility services to their patients –including IVF, ICSI and IUI – but their areas of particular expertise, include the management of women and couples over the age of 40, premature ovarian ageing or low ovarian reserve, and male or sperm-related infertility issues.
Notwithstanding their expertise in these complex fields, The Fertility Centre continues to perform very well in its success rates. The Kensington Wing’s highly experienced team of midwives welcome enquiries and the opportunity to discuss midwife-led care in more detail. These ‘meet the midwife’ sessions are always a relaxed and special time to talk and discover more without any obligation. For those women and birthing people who are appropriate for midwife-led care, the team provide full support throughout your pregnancy and the midwifery team are available 24 hours seven days a week for advice or concerns throughout your pregnancy, birth and postnatal stay.
The consultant-led care package allows you the choice of one of their experienced consultant obstetricians to personally guide you through your pregnancy and birth. Your consultant provides continuity and individualised expertise throughout your journey. They build a relationship with you and your partner through the antenatal period to give you confidence to birth safely with them in line with your birth preferences. They continue to support you through the postnatal period, including your 6 week postnatal check. All consultants are available to meet you and your birth partner without any obligation.
