Premier classic car auctioneer unveils £5m Ascot HQ showcase
Historics Auctioneers, the premier classic car auction house in the South East, has announced a significant milestone with the opening of a new £5 million, state-of-the-art headquarters in Ascot, Berkshire.
The purpose-designed contemporary HQ marks a major investment in the thriving company’s future and reinforces its long-term commitment to both the market and to the region.
Designed by architects Garrett McKee of Marlow, the flowing 1.5 acre development adjacent to Ascot station will serve as an operational hub for the company’s established live and online auctions. Staged at major Home Counties venues including Ascot Racecourse and Brooklands, Weybridge, each auction features some 200 varied and evocative classic and collector cars, from very affordable to immensely valuable.
The HQ structure includes an office suite housing the company’s 28-strong specialist auction team, plus a 200 sq.m. showroom and gallery. Featuring a constantly changing selection of exquisite collectible classics, the panoramic space will double as the home for Historics’ planned
expansion into auctions of collectibles beyond classic cars and automobilia.
Founded in 2009 by CEO, Mark Perkins - a long-time Ascot resident and owner of the Step Property Group - Historics has grown to become a major player in the vibrant classic car market that’s currently contributing £7.3 billion per year to the UK economy.* The privately owned, familyfunded Historics business continues to expand, with turnover cresting £16 million in 2025 after sustained year-on-year growth since its first auction sixteen years ago.
With historic vehicles contributing minimally to CO2 emissions – accounting for just 0.2% of all miles driven on UK roads* - environmental concern was also top of mind at Historics when it came to the design and build of the new HQ, a network of 80 solar panels and storage batteries enabling the building to draw no electricity from the grid for over half the year.
Mark Perkins commented: “Our new HQ is a culmination of sixteen years of hard work, experience and professional know-how, coupled to an enduring passion for classic and collector cars that’s shared by all in our team. We are thrilled to have chosen Ascot as the home for our continuing expansion, especially in view of our major auctions at the most famous racecourse in the world on our doorstep.”

ROYAL WINDSOR HORSE SHOW 2026
The Royal Windsor Horse Show returns to the private grounds of Windsor Castle from 14–17 May 2026, offering an unparalleled intersection of sporting excellence and social prestige. As the only event
14-17 May 2026
permitted within the Sovereign’s private estate, the show remains the definitive fixture of the British Spring Season, where the elite worlds of equestrianism and high society converge against the iconic backdrop of the Round Tower.
A CENTENARY OF ROYAL HERITAGE
The 2026 edition carries a profound historical weight, marking 100 years since the birth of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To commemorate her lifelong devotion to the horse, the show will host a curated Centenary Recital on the evening of Friday 15 May. Set under the shadows of the Castle, the evening features a moving bespoke score by Oscar-nominated composer Debbie Wiseman OBE. Narrated by Alan Titchmarsh CBE, the recital promises to be an intimate, black-tie highlight for those seeking a moment of reflection amidst the weekend’s festivities.
SPORTING EXCELLENCE AND HIGHOCTANE INNOVATION
For the discerning enthusiast, the 2026 programme delivers world-class competition across four FEI disciplines. The weekend reaches its zenith with the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday, a five-star international jumping class that attracts the world’s top-ranked riders competing for one of the most substantial prize funds in the sport.
Innovation also makes its mark this year with the debut of the “Defender Drive & Drive.” This exhilarating head-to-head contest pits the classical precision of a four-in-hand carriage team against the engineering prowess of the modern Defender OCTA. Furthermore, the Saturday evening schedule has been reimagined for the modern spectator; the Castle Arena will transform into a theatre of speed for an International Exhibition Polo Match, bringing the “Sport of Kings” to the very heart of the Windsor grounds.
THE ULTIMATE LIFESTYLE EXPERIENCE
Beyond the rails of the Castle Arena, the show offers a curated lifestyle experience. The Shopping Village features over 200 hand-picked luxury boutiques, ranging from bespoke tailors and fine jewellers to high-end equestrian outfitters. For those seeking the height of hospitality, the various ringside pavilions provide a sanctuary of fine dining and vintage champagne, offering the perfect vantage point to observe the 1,300 national entries and 120 showing classes.
In alignment with its commitment to social responsibility, the 2026 show has named Warrior Equine as its Official Charity. This partnership underscores the therapeutic power of the horse,
providing equine-assisted coaching to veterans—a cause that resonates deeply with the show’s historic military ties.
AN UNMISSABLE SPRING FIXTURE
“The 2026 edition carries a profound historical weight, marking 100 years since the birth of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II”
Coinciding with the Chinese Year of the Horse— symbolising vitality and nobility—the 2026 Royal Windsor Horse Show is more than a sporting event; it is a celebration of a lifestyle defined by heritage, elegance, and the enduring bond between human and horse. Whether attending for the thrill of the Rolex Grand Prix or the atmospheric Centenary Recital, guests will find themselves at the centre of a quintessential British tradition. rwhs.co.uk
Monumental Nature:
Largest-ever outdoor
exhibition of Henry Moore works arrives at Kew Gardens Saturday 9 May 2026 – Sunday 31 January 2027, Kew Gardens
Kew Gardens is showcasing a oncein-a-generation presentation of artworks by Henry Moore - one of the most influential and internationally recognised artists of the 20th century.
Monumental Nature represents the largest and most comprehensive showcase of Moore’s work to date, featuring 30 works across Kew’s entire 320acre UNESCO World Heritage Site - and inside the iconic Temperate House, the largest surviving Victorian glasshouse in the world.
The largest outdoor exhibition of its kind anywhere in the world, offers a fresh perspective on his lifelong engagement with natural forms and materials, creating new opportunities for visitors to encounter his monumental sculptures alongside Kew’s iconic vistas and historic glasshouses.
Throughout Moore’s career, this connection to nature remained a constant theme, reflected in his ability to transform its complexity and beauty into abstract forms that feel profoundly human. Moore believed that landscapes provided the perfect setting for his sculptures, where the natural architecture of the environment could amplify their visual and emotional impact.
Situating this remarkable body of work
amongst Kew’s heritage landscapes and living collections, the exhibition celebrates a connection to ecology, creating a unique interplay between art and the surrounding landscape. Throughout the run, visitors are encouraged to reflect on how they perceive and interact with the natural world. Works on display includes Large Two Forms, Sheep Piece, Large Reclining Figure, Oval with Points, Reclining Woman: Elbow, Locking Piece and Three-Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae.
Alongside the works across the Gardens, visitors will also be able to enjoy a comprehensive exhibition in Kew’s Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, featuring over 90 works including bronzes, stone and wood carvings, prints and drawings, exploring Moore’s unique process of ‘thinking through nature’.
In addition to the daytime exhibition, several exciting after-hours events see the Temperate House transformed as dusk falls. Running on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th June, and Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th July, these adult-only evenings will celebrate the summer solstice, through performances and artistic encounters across the glasshouse, co-curated with the Working Class Creatives Database.
This new exhibition is presented in partnership with the Henry Moore Foundation.
The exhibition is included in a ticket to Kew Gardens via kew.org

Steeped in History
The story of Loseley Park begins in the early years of the 16th century, when the Manor of Loseley was purchased during the reign of Henry VII. Its new owner, Sir Christopher More - Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex - was a man of considerable influence and authority. Yet it was his son, Sir William More, a direct ancestor of the present owners, who truly shaped Loseley’s legacy by embarking on an ambitious programme of building.
At the heart of the estate stands the magnificent Tudor manor house, located just three miles southwest of Guildford. Constructed between 1562 and 1568, the present house was built using stone salvaged from the ruins of nearby Waverley Abbey. It replaced an earlier, more modest dwelling - one that Elizabeth I famously deemed “not adequate” for a royal visit, prompting the construction of a grander residence worthy of her presence.
Loseley’s celebrated walled garden is based on a design by the renowned garden designer Gertrude Jekyll and is arranged as a series of distinct
“At the heart of the estate stands the magnificent Tudor manor house, located just three miles southwest of Guildford”
“rooms,” each with its own character and planting theme. Redevelopment of the garden began in 1993–94 with the Rose Garden and has since expanded to include the Herb Garden, Flower Garden, White Garden, and, most recently, the organic Vegetable and Cut Flower Garden. Beyond the formal gardens, the Loseley Lakes offer a tranquil haven for both wildlife and visitors. These historic water features form part of the landscaped parkland surrounding Loseley House and once served practical purposes - providing fish, water, and beauty to the estate. Thanks to support from the Surrey Hills Farming in Protected Landscapes programme, the upper and lower lakes have recently been restored. The project has improved water quality, reopened views towards the house, and created thriving habitats for wildlife such as kingfishers and dragonflies. New picnic benches along the footpath now invite walkers to pause and enjoy the revitalised landscape.
Acquired by the direct ancestors of the current owners, the More-Molyneux family, at the beginning of the 16th century, Loseley Park remains a family home to this day. Still lived in by the More-Molyneux family, the estate opens to the public each spring, offering visitors a rare glimpse into centuries of English history set within a living landscape.

trends, but the Fair has adapted to changing tastes: it was the first antiques Fair to include mid-century and post-modern design, and contemporary art, and it has never chucked out the chintz. It was also the first major Fair to take place in a tent, when it located to Chelsea Harbour in the early 1990s. And it has remained in its current home, Battersea Park, since 1997, albeit in a sturdier structure than canvas.
ince its inception in September 1985, The Decorative Fair has led the way in bringing together the world of interior design and antiques. In the sales booklet for the first Fair, talking about the then existing fairs scene the founder, antiques dealer Patricia Harvey, said: “to a certain extent, interior designers have been neglected. There has until now been no specialist setting in which designers can meet dealers… and where their particular needs are understood and catered to.”
The growth in the 1980s of the interior decorating trade coincided with a trend for opulent and traditional interiors, after decades of postwar modernism. Decorators were hunting for a great variety of antiques with strong visual impact alongside purist collectors’ items, at realistic prices. Although they didn’t know it yet, what they were hunting for became known as ‘decorative antiques’.
The launch of ‘The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair’ (its original name) tapped in to that demand, and was a welcome initiative. Exhibitors were positively encouraged to be creative with their stand displays to inspire buyers; textiles were experiencing a boom in interest, with the ‘full’ country house look of swags and tails (plus ruched blinds) at the windows, chintz-covered squashy sofas loaded with cushions, and the fad for fabricdraped side tables at its apogee. Designers and decorators embraced the event, as did their clients, who came to shop in their droves.
There had never been an antiques fair like it – and today the event still leads the way for the interiors trade.

The Decorative Fair is now the longest running and largest antiques, design and art event of its kind in the UK. Its success lies in the affection it engenders in all who visit, take part in and organise the Fair, many of whom have been involved since the very first event. Members of the organising team and many suppliers have been involved for over 20 years.
The sense of excitement is what brings clients – and exhibitors – back time and again. The Fair embraces dealers that specialise in such a very wide range of stock, from textiles and lighting, glass and ceramics, fine art and painted antiques to unusual disciplines such as ethnographic art, antiquities, natural history objects, garden antiques and industrial furniture.
Today the offering is more diverse than ever. With 130 exhibitors coming from across the UK and Europe, the event prides itself on the quality and breadth of the stock for sale. It is a Fair which provides every kind of decoration for indoors and out, from the fine to the fun, and at prices to suit every pocket. It attracts tastemakers and stylists hunting for the eccentric and unusual alongside the classic and traditional.

YOUR HOLIDAY SHOULDN’T BE HARD WORK
Q&A with Carsten Lund, Founder of TRIPLA
Q. When we were chatting before this interview, you said luxury is about “ease.” What does that mean to you?
To me, true luxury is when everything flows. That doesn’t always mean extravagant, but it does mean thoughtful. A wellness retreat in the Alps where transfers, spa treatments, and mountain hikes are seamlessly coordinated. Or a short city break where the flights, hotel, and a hard-to-get dinner reservation are already sorted. We do work with high-touch experiences, but it’s not about the price tag, it’s about removing stress and creating something that feels personal.
Q. In your experience as a traveller and industry professional, have you noticed travel needs changing in recent years?
Very much so. People are no longer just looking for a nice hotel or a beautiful view, they often want something deeper, something that resonates. I’ve noticed a real shift towards travel that feels meaningful. For some, that means behind-the-scenes cultural access; meeting local artisans, exploring places tourists don’t usually see. For others, it’s culinary journeys, connecting with a region through its food and wine. And increasingly, it’s about restoration: wellness retreats, mindful escapes, and time to simply switch off in a way daily life doesn’t allow. Travel has become less about ticking off a destination and more about creating experiences that inspire, enrich, and stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
We’ve all been there. Ten-tabs deep in-flight options, hotel reviews, and “must-see” lists. Why does organising time away so often feel like a job in itself? We sat down with Carsten Lund, founder of TRIPLA, to hear why he believes travel should feel effortless, and how his own experiences have inspired a different approach.
Q. Carsten, you’ve spent a lifetime travelling. What stands out most from those experiences?
I’ve been lucky to see the world through both a luxury and practical lens, from barefoot escapes on private islands to cultural weekends in Europe, and even multi-generational cruises or villas. And what always stands out is how much detail matters. The transfer that’s waiting without fuss or the restaurant that actually lives up to its promise. It’s these little things that turn a good trip into a truly memorable one.
Q. Many of us know the stress of planning holidays. What do you think makes it so challenging?
Time, mostly. People are busy, and while travel should be restorative, organising it often isn’t. I’ve seen clients arrive exhausted before their holiday even begins because they’ve spent weeks trying to piece it all together online. One family I worked with wanted a milestone birthday in Tuscany. They’d been overwhelmed by villa choices and didn’t know which were genuinely right for them. We stepped in, found a villa with space for grandparents, teenagers, and young children, complete with a private chef for a celebratory meal and a private wine tasting. For them, it turned from a logistical headache into a celebration they’ll never forget.
Q. With travel uncertainty on the rise, how can travellers be sure their money is safe?
It’s a very real question for many travellers. At TRIPLA, protection isn’t an add-on - it’s the foundation of everything we do. All flight-inclusive holidays are fully ATOL protected, and every client payment is held securely in Trust by NatWest Bank and the Travel Trust Association. This means client money is safeguarded from the moment they book, even in the unlikely event that a supplier or TRIPLA were to fail. In a landscape where reassurance matters, TRIPLA ensures every journey is 100% financially secure.
Q. What’s the best way to start planning a trip with TRIPLA? Everything begins with getting to know you. When clients connect with us - whether online or by getting in touch directly - it gives us a sense of their travel style and helps us start shaping ideas that are genuinely personal. Joining our mailing list also keeps you in the loop with tailored inspiration, updates and occasional offers, including the chance to win a £500 travel voucher. It’s a simple first step toward creating a journey designed entirely around you.
Q. And finally, what do you hope clients feel when they travel with TRIPLA?
Peace of mind, really. That feeling of being looked after so they can just enjoy the experience. Whether it’s a river cruise with private excursions, a birthday in Tuscany, or a quick Parisian escape between board meetings, I want them to feel it was designed just for them. And that they never had to worry about the details.

Sinatra The Musical
Aldwych Theatre, London. Book now at SinatraMusical.com. Performances begin 3 June
The Voice. The Scandal. The Greatest Comeback In Showbiz History.
New Year’s Eve, 1942. A skinny, 27-year-old Italian-American steps onto the stage of New York City’s Paramount Theatre - and everything changes. The screaming crowd, the swooning teenagers, the voice that seemed to reach right inside you and squeeze. In that one electric night, Frank Sinatra didn’t just perform. He became a legend.
Now, that extraordinary story is coming to the West End, and if you’ve ever loved a Sinatra song, this is the show you’ve been waiting for.
Sinatra The Musical arrives at London’s Aldwych Theatre this June, brought to life by a world-class creative team including two-time Tony Award-winner Joe DiPietro and Olivier Award-
winning director Kathleen Marshall. Together, they’ve crafted a musical that’s as emotionally gripping as it is gloriously entertaining.
At its heart, this is a love story - or rather, two of them. As Frank’s star blazes across America, his heart is torn between his loyal first wife Nancy (played by Phoebe Panaretos) and the smouldering Hollywood goddess Ava Gardner (Ana Villafañe). When scandal strikes and a hostile press turns on him, it looks like the dream might be over. What follows is the most thrilling comeback show business has ever seen.
Joel Harper-Jackson steps into those iconic shoes as Frank himself - and the music is everything you’d hope for. Over twenty timeless classics filling the stage, from That’s Life and One For My Baby to The Best Is Yet To Come and I’ve Got The World On A String.
You know every song. Now it’s time to discover the remarkable man behind them. sinatramusical.com

COLLAGEN STIMULATION: A Regenerative Answer to Facial Rejuvenation
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers have long been used to restore facial volume and will also improve the quality of the overlying skin. They remain an effective treatment for age-related volume loss. However, concerns about over-correction and the risk of an “over-filled” appearance have led to increasing interest in treatments that enhance skin quality whilst minimising volume replacement. Such an approach is collagen bio-stimulation with Sculptra®. Sculptra contains Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) an injectable biocompatible material with a 20yr history of safe medical use. Unlike traditional fillers, PLLA does not simply add volume. Instead, it works by stimulating the body to produce its own collagen, within the dermis.
than an instant volumising treatment, results develop progressively. Improvements typically become noticeable over 6–12 weeks and continue to evolve thereafter. With appropriate patient selection and treatment planning, results can be sustained for up to 24 months.
At the Cosmetic Doctors Company our treatments are individually tailored following a comprehensive consultation that considers skin quality, degree of collagen loss, anatomical factors and aesthetic goals. Most patients require two treatment sessions spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, although this is personalised according to need.
Collagen plays a central role in maintaining skin structure, strength and elasticity. From early adulthood, collagen production declines at an estimated rate of around 1% per year. Over time, this contributes to dermal thinning, reduced firmness and the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

COWSHED RETURNS: WITH A NEW ERA OF FRAGRANCE-FIRST BRITISH WELLNESS
The original British wellness rebel is back. Born in 1998 at Babington House in Somerset, Cowshed relaunches this spring with a bold new brand world rooted in fragrance, emotional uplift and unapologetic indulgence. This isn’t a refresh. It’s a reintroduction. One that reflects how people feel now –burnt out, over-optimised, and craving real, sensorial escape. Launched exclusively in Soho House spas and bathrooms from March, before a wider global release in May, the new Cowshed offers a refined, rebellious alternative to today’s often soulless, homogenous wellness landscape. A world of British botanicals, scentled moments, and everyday indulgences for bath, body and home – designed to live on show, not under the sink.
Cowshed introduces Wildly Feel-Good spa moments from the heart of the Somerset countryside – the antidote to hustle culture and minimalist selfoptimisation. It pushes back against modern interpretations of wellness, with everyday self-care designed for the emotionally intelligent, not the over-disciplined. Bringing a breath of fresh air and irreverence, Cowshed prioritises how self-care makes you feel.
The relaunch marks a clear shift, with Cowshed now positioned at the intersection of beauty, design and emotional wellness, blending rebellious British character with global aesthetic sensibility. It is built around four strategic pillars: fragrancefirst storytelling, premium product and packaging, design-led and culturally relevant gifting, and a confident, intelligent tone of voice. This evolution positions Cowshed as a modern British heritage brand – recognisable yet ready to be re-chosen.
With one foot in the spa and the other in a wellington boot, Cowshed lives in the sweet spot
between refined luxury and unpolished charm –“champagne flutes and muddy boots.” It draws on its Somerset roots and Babington House, where the original spa was located, with inspiration from British botanicals grown in the surrounding Victorian walled garden.
Good vibes only, Cowshed creates warmth, relaxation and comfort, offering an antidote to city living and a sensory escape into its countryside origins.
With a fragrance-first approach, every product starts with scent – developed with fragrance expert Virginie Daniau – and is designed to meet mood, not just treat skin. The original fragrance profiles have been modernised to bring depth, emotional clarity and contemporary fragrance throw, designed to evoke instinct rather than aroma alone.
Cowshed’s signature fragrances – Wildly FeelGood scents – are artfully imagined for those who choose pleasure over perfection. Each is instinctive, intelligent and emotionally led, offering moments of escape, connection or clarity in everyday life.
From reviving hand wash to romantic bath rituals, every product is designed to belong in the home as much as the bathroom. Fragrance profiles include Relax, Indulge, Replenish, Active, Refresh and Restore.

CREATRICE LAUNCHES: Introducing Embodied Fashion
Creatrice is a new luxury womenswear brand introducing Embodied Fashion, a design philosophy rooted in somatic intelligence, presence, and selfexpression.
Creatrice redefines the relationship between women and what they wear.
Creatrice begins with the body itself. Silhouettes are intentional and architectural, fabrics are selected for breathability and movement, and construction balances structure with ease.
Creatrice garments are developed through a somatic design approach - an understanding of how fabric, cut, and silhouette influence how a woman feels in her body. Each piece is designed to either ground, soften, expand, or lead, depending on the energy and intention a woman chooses to embody.
Founded by Emma Mullane after nearly two decades inside the fashion industry, Creatrice emerged from lived experience. Having worked across development, production, and brandbuilding, Emma witnessed first-hand how disconnected fashion had become from the women it was meant to serve.
“The turning point came when I realised my clothes were shaping my energy,” she says. “Getting dressed became a ritual - a way of returning to myself. That’s when Creatrice was born.”
Creatrice launches with a considered capsule of sculptural silk dresses, architectural blouses, and fluid tailoring.
Creatrice stands out by combining distinctive design with emotional resonance. Inspired by the connection between body, emotion and movement, the brand explores the balance between structure and fluidity. Creating pieces that are uniquely feminine, sculptural and powerful.
Creatrice positions clothing as a tool for transformation when it is designed with care and intelligence.
The brand works in small runs with UK-based and European production partners, prioritising quality, transparency, and long-term wear. Fabrics include silk, cupro, viscose, and regenerated fibres selected for both their environmental credentials and how they feel on the body. creatricestudio.com

Creators of the finest garage interiors
For many homeowners, their garage has become a neglected room filled with clutter. We’re so used to thinking of garages in this way that it’s easy to overlook the potential of this valuable space.
For car lovers, the garage could provide a pristine showroom-standard space for caring for their prized vehicles. For fitness and cycling enthusiasts, space could be freed up for a home gym, whilst still allowing flexibility for parking. For many, a luxurious space built to the standard of their kitchen would provide a welcome additional leisure space in their property, while adding unique kerb appeal to their home.
Dura is Europe’s leading garage interior company and has been transforming under-utilised rooms into beautifully organised spaces since 1997. They design, manufacture, and install modular steel furniture, which is made to order in their own UK factory. This allows customers to specify the perfect configuration for their needs in the colour they desire.
Facilities like sinks, fridges and TVs can be seamlessly integrated, along with power sockets, under-cabinet lighting and a variety of worktop surfaces.
The award-winning cabinets are of exceptional quality and used by professional workshops around the world, including many luxury car makers and blue-chip companies.
Dura also offers a wall-cladding system which enables clients to store bulkier items like bikes and garden tools in a convenient place, clearing the floor of clutter. The system incorporates a range of ‘clip-on’ hooks, baskets and shelves, which owners can reconfigure at will, without the need
to drill additional fixing holes as you expect with traditional methods.
For the ultimate garage make-over, Dura can provide luxury flooring, with a choice of PVC or porcelain tiles or a seamless resin floor surface. In addition, a ceiling with lighting can be included to cover the exposed roof trusses – and even a loft hatch if required!
Dura offers a free home survey and design consultation to provide accurate plans and costing, complete with realistic 3D visuals to help you visualise the garage of your dreams. For further inspiration, a brochure, or to book a home consultation, visit dura.com/ residential or call 01280 700563.

Expert Advice for Creating a Stylish and Inviting Outdoor Space
With longer evenings and warmer weather on the horizon, homeowners are increasingly thinking about how to make the most of their gardens after the sun goes down. Thoughtful lighting can completely transform an outdoor space, extending its usability well into the evening while adding atmosphere, highlighting landscaping and improving safety.
James Kendall, Operations Director at KES Lighting & Home, shares his expert guidance on the outdoor lighting trends shaping gardens this year and explains how to use lighting effectively to enjoy evenings outside.
“Garden lighting is often treated as an afterthought, but it has the potential to completely change how a space is used. The right lighting allows homeowners to continue enjoying their garden long after sunset, whether that means entertaining friends, relaxing outdoors or simply appreciating the view from inside the house.”
“Garden lighting is often treated as an afterthought, but it has the potential to completely change how a space is used”
Layered Lighting to Create Depth
Relying on a single light source can make a garden feel flat and uninviting, whereas combining wall lights, path lighting, feature illumination and soft ambient lighting creates depth, interest, and added functionality. Lighting works best in three layers: functional lights for pathways and steps, feature lights to highlight planting or architectural elements and softer ambient lighting around seating areas to create a welcoming atmosphere. Rather than flooding a garden with light, the most effective approach is to focus on specific focal points. This could include uplighting trees, illuminating textured walls or subtly highlighting water features, which will all help to add drama and structure. This not only enhances the garden itself, but also adds interest to the view from inside the home.
Small Garden Lighting Ideas That Make a Big Impact
Strategic lighting placement is key to make a small outdoor space feel far larger and more inviting. In smaller gardens, lighting is great for creating the illusion of depth, so rather than placing lights only near the house, try highlighting the far boundary or a tree at the back of the garden which will help to draw the eye outward, making the space feel larger after dark. Wall lights and subtle ground lighting can also help by creating a clean and uncluttered look, while low level lights provide practical illumination, making the space both functional and welcoming, whatever its size.
How to Light a Pergola or Covered Seating Area
Pergolas and covered seating areas are becoming increasingly popular in modern gardens and lighting is essential for making these spaces usable in the evening. To create a cosy atmosphere that
“Soft ambient lighting creates depth, interest, and added functionality”
feels like an outdoor living room, consider softer, decorative lighting, such as pendant lights, warm wall lights or subtle string lighting. Layered lighting is important to allow the space to shift easily from relaxed evenings to entertaining guests, and adding dimmable lights or multiple sources will give you flexibility depending on how the area is being used. This ensures the space is both beautiful and practical at any time of day.
Making Gardens Safe and Adaptable After Dark
Safety is an important consideration and low level lights along pathways or integrated into steps are ideal for providing visibility after dark. For flexibility, it’s also worth considering Smart outdoor lighting, which can be easily controlled from a smartphone. This allows the homeowner to adjust the brightness and even adjust the lighting in different lighting zones. Furthermore, timers and automation can ensure lights switch on at dusk and turn off later in the evening, making it simple for homeowners to create a relaxed atmosphere while still maintaining practical lighting where it is needed.

Built to Last, Designed to Impress
There is a particular kind of outdoor building that stops you in your tracks - one where the craftsmanship is immediately apparent, where every joint, every line and every material choice feels considered. These are the buildings that Arbour Bespoke has been quietly delivering across the home counties for the past six years.
Founded by Adrian Hollands, Arbour Bespoke specialises in entirely bespoke garden buildings, outdoor kitchens and oak-frame structures - each one conceived from scratch to suit the client, the plot and the brief. Green oak is at the heart of everything Arbour Bespoke builds - it’s a material that rewards genuine craftsmanship, developing the kind of character that no manufactured alternative can replicate.
The garden room pictured here is a case in point. Clad in contemporary cement board with a generous veranda, dark hardwood floors and full-height aluminium glazing, it sits with quiet confidence in its setting - at once a practical addition to the home and an architectural statement in its own right. Step inside and the same attention to detail continues; every surface and fitting chosen to complement rather than compete.
The same philosophy extends to Arbour Bespoke’s outdoor kitchen and BBQ shelter builds - structures that transform how their owners use and enjoy their outdoor space, season after season. Far removed from the off-the-shelf offerings that dominate the market, each project begins with a conversation and ends with something that could not exist anywhere else.
“Adrian is the very definition of a professional,” says Ryan B, a recent client for whom Arbour

Green Retreats Launches B-Range Garden Rooms
Green Retreats has launched the new B-Range, expanding its popular Basebox garden room into a wider range of five distinct designs. Created in response to growing demand for simpler, costeffective ways to add space at home. B-Range builds on everything that made Basebox so popular while offering customers more choice in style and layout.
“Basebox showed us there was a clear appetite for a more straightforward, cost-conscious way to create extra space at home.” says Roy Wetherall, Managing Director of Green Retreats. “With B-Range, we’ve responded to that demand by expanding the range, giving customers more options while keeping the same simple, accessible approach.”
B-Range offers an accessible route to owning a fully insulated garden room. Designed as an alternative to traditional home extensions, the range focuses on efficient construction, streamlined specifications and carefully selected materials, while still delivering the performance needed for year-round use.
B-Range buildings are suited to a wide variety of uses, including garden offices, home gyms, studios and additional living space. With professional installation available, they provide a practical way to add space at home with minimal disruption.
Designs within the B-Range
The B-Range includes five designs, each offering a slightly different look and feel to suit different gardens and preferences:
• B1 features a cabin inspired design, with a visible sloping roof and sheltered front that creates a more traditional and characterful appearance.
• B1 Lite offers a simplified version of the original B1, with a more pared back specification for those prioritising affordability.
• B2 has a compact, modern pod style design, ideal for smaller gardens or tighter spaces.
• B3 brings a more architectural look, with sharper lines and a bold, structured frame.
• B5 stands out with its distinctive curved corner, giving it a softer and more contemporary edge. Each design is available in a range of sizes and can be tailored to suit different uses, from a dedicated garden office to a flexible, multi-purpose space.
Customers can explore the full collection at the Buckinghamshire showroom, where the dedicated B-Range Village showcases all five designs side by side. This allows visitors to compare styles, understand the differences between each building and find the right fit for their space. greenretreats.co.uk

SS26 outdoor trends
Spring is officially here and with our gardens now shaking off the winter months, it’s time to spring into style exploring the must-have outdoor living trends for SS26.
From sun drenched mornings with a coffee in hand to cosy evenings hosting get togethers, the garden has become a true extension of the home - one that balances functionality with personal style. As this shift continues, design trends are evolving to reflect how we live outdoors today. Rikke Blaeside, Design and Range Manager at JYSK, shares insight on the key outdoor living trends for 2026 that are expected dominate this season and beyond.
SPA GARDENS
Who says spa-like spaces have to be limited to the indoors?
We expect spa-inspired gardens to flourish in 2026: natural textures and thoughtfully zoned spaces designed for rest, recovery and restoration. Outdoor areas are increasingly seen as extensions of the home, with a growing focus on wellbeing and mindful living. A soft palette, layered greenery and calming materials help to create an atmosphere that feels both grounding and rejuvenating. As daily life becomes busier, these calming garden sanctuaries offer a place to pause, reset and reconnect with nature. To bring this trend to life, consider elements that soothe the senses while remaining practical. Opt for neutral tones and naturally inspired materials for a calming finish, that invites comfort and relaxation. Catering to the senses, consider incorporating a water-feature and layered lighting throughout to evoke the desired atmosphere.
2026, with garden armchairs and love seats taking centre stage. As our lifestyles become increasingly fast-paced, gardens are being reimagined as havens for pause and relaxation, coupled with city-living and compact gardens, the rise of the garden armchair has truly taken hold. Well-chosen seating introduces a softer, considered approach to outdoor design, combining comfort with practicality and durability. These pieces help define areas for relaxing and enjoying solitude. The result is a garden that feels calm, inviting and effortlessly ready for everyday use.
CURVY COMFORT
We expect curves to lead the way in outdoor garden furniture, providing a comforting contrast to the harsh realities of nature. This trend is all about bold curvaceous shapes, artistic forms, and statement pieces that double as functional design. Curved silhouettes, striking structures and tactile materials create a space that feels modern, expressive and effortlessly created. Bring this look to life by mixing smooth, rounded furniture with angular accents and eye-catching pieces. Opt for materials such as concrete and ceramic to add depth and texture, while providing a modern edge.

WAYS TO SLEEP STYLISHLY
If the living room is considered the heart of the home, then surely the bedroom is the mind — tailored to your most intimate needs and personal style. While most rooms serve the entire household, this one is just for you. Anatomical analogies aside, it’s one of our firm beliefs that the bedroom deserves a near-cellular (last one, I promise) level of attention. Beyond personal aesthetics, it is also likely the most healthoriented room you occupy; your space to rest, relax, and repair is of paramount importance to your life, both inside and beyond your home. While it’s all well and good to encourage you to follow your personal passions, some styles are so timeless that we find ourselves returning to them again and again. With that in mind, we’ve pieced together a selection of ideas to inspire you— whether you’re a curator of mid-century design or prefer a contemporary zen. Here are five ways to build the modern bedroom.
THE ROYAL APARTMENTS:
Let’s start with something that reaches further back on the design timeline than the rest. Defined by its richly detailed interiors from ornate furniture to wall panelling and floor-to-ceiling bookcases, the Georgian look is steeped in grandeur. And if you happen to have a four-poster bed lying around, you’re already well on your way to turning your future bedroom into a refined nod to the past. Heritage brands have drawn on this aesthetic for decades, using it as a marker of opulence and a tribute to the early forefathers of modern design. Putting a contemporary spin on this age-old style, you see, is much easier than you might think. The 1700s were, if nothing else, somewhat synonymous with vanity. People took immense pride in their appearance, and with that demand came a solution: the vanity table. On the flip side, however, as the world became increasingly globalised, another piece of furniture—one that, ironically, divided—began to gain popularity. Room dividers offered an added sense of privacy, even within the most intimate settings.
TECHNICOLOUR DREAMS:
A little further along in the history of the home—but a history lesson all the same. Midcentury design (the 20th, for those keeping
“Sleep
has become its own health culture in recent years, a shift only amplified by the meteoric rise of technology”
score) is the era that largely shaped the furniture landscape we know today. A kind of mini renaissance for anyone who sees a Kubrick scene wherever they go and dreams in Technicolour. And speaking of dreams, where better to have yours than surrounded by the unmistakable vision of 1960s style? It’s a melting pot of rich woods, bold colours, and functional furniture, an aesthetic that has resurfaced time and again since it first graced our homes some 70 years ago.
If you want your sleep space to channel this trend, our recommendation is to build from the ground up—literally. Start with a statement midcentury rug, then choose a bed with the largest, most practically designed headboard you can find. The look can be finished with one of the era’s many iconic lounge chairs for good measure - look to names like Vitra or Knoll for inspiration - the result is the perfect cocktail of retro and modern.
A WILD NIGHT:
As previously mentioned, no room is more yours than the bedroom, so bold statements of self-expression are almost the default when it comes to your chambre à coucher. But what about those of you who want to ensure your space has no quiet characters? Try a statement mirror that reflects your personality as much as your outfits, a bed worthy of your dreams, and wallpaper from LondonArt bold enough to breathe new life into the phrase, “if these walls could talk.”
As always with the eclectic look, the core concept revolves entirely around placing the unique memories and ideas that define you, wherever you choose. It’s about hitting the unmute button on your design story and embracing the beauty of organised chaos. The pieces above serve as a guide, a starting point for building a more daring, expressive aesthetic.
SLEEPING SCANDI:
Life can ask a lot of us. Which is why some of us crave a space where responsibilities fade, and the visual bombardment of city life disappears with them. A place where the overhead light is used for no more than the five seconds it takes to find the switch for your lamps. A bedroom designed with this mindset can be uniquely beneficial, its calming nature offering a space to close your eyes, before you close your eyes.
To achieve this deeply relaxing breath of fresh air, follow the minimalist mantra of “less is more,” both in quantity and colour palette. Opt for softly-shaded wooden side tables from Audo Copenhagen, pair them with quietly luxurious lamps from Nuura, and gently layer the space around a welcoming bed.
BEDROOM OF TOMORROW, TODAY:
Sleep has become its own health culture in recent years, a shift only amplified by the meteoric rise of technology. We track our rest through apps, invest in mattresses that memorise our sleeping positions, and increasingly these innovations are reflected in the furniture we use across the modern bedroom. So what’s on offer to help you make the leap into the future as you fall into bed?
You’ll find this approach integrated into Lema’s fitted furniture range, with its wardrobe sanitising systems, Clei’s award-winning multi-functional furniture solutions, and, of course, the precision engineering behind Interlübke’s exceptional storage options. This is less about aesthetics and more about modernising the way you use one of the most health-centric rooms in the home. chaplins.co.uk

Shaping Homes Across Surrey, Sussex and London
Tucked away in the heart of the South East, where craftsmanship still carries quiet authority, Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery stands as a reminder that true skill never goes out of style. Established 20 years ago in Surrey by master carpenter and cabinetmaker Thomas Streeter, the company has built a reputation that extends across Surrey, Sussex, and London, driven by consistently exceptional work.
What distinguishes Acorn is its resolute commitment to bespoke design. In an age of mass production, there’s something deeply reassuring about a workshop dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind pieces, tailored precisely to the homes and lifestyles they inhabit. Whether it’s fitted furniture designed to maximise space or intricate architectural joinery that defines a room’s character, every commission reflects a level of care
and attention that’s increasingly rare.
At the centre of the business is Thomas. Unlike many founders who step back from dayto-day operations as their companies grow, he remains closely involved throughout. From the first conversation with a client through to the final installation. That continuity is evident in the finished product. There’s a cohesion, a sense that nothing has been lost in translation between the design and execution.
Acorn’s clientele is as telling as its craftsmanship. Alongside discerning private homeowners, the company collaborates with some of the country’s leading interior designers, architects and builders. These partnerships speak volumes; in industries where reputation is everything, Acorn has become a trusted name for those who expect precision and reliability.
The result is a business that balances heritage craftsmanship with contemporary expectations. Projects are delivered on time, to exacting standards, yet retain the unmistakable mark of handmade quality. In a region with rich heritage and design-conscious homeowners, Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery feels perfectly at home, shaping interiors built not just to impress, but to last.

Botanical Archive is ideal for adding a touch of lightness to interiors, whilst creating that all important connection to nature. Available in seven charming colourways including old world palettes such as faded rose and mint, these beautiful fabrics will add a touch of timeless elegance to any room.

Hartland comes in six carefully curated colourways, from warm dunes and mineral hues to deep indigos, softened olives and sun-baked siennas. Giving just a subtle nod to cool, coastal style, stripes are the epitome of understated style, adding rhythm and texture to a scheme, while remaining beautifully timeless. iliv.co.uk
INSIDE A GREGORY PHILLIPS ARCHITECTS HOME: Contemporary Luxury with Purpose
For Gregory Phillips Architects, luxury contemporary houses are defined not by size, but by intelligence, integrity and longevity. Each home is conceived as a highly personal response to its site and client - architecture that feels effortless because it has been rigorously resolved.
Specialising in bespoke residences across London and the South East, the practice is known for combining architectural clarity with technical precision. Every project begins with a deep understanding of context - landscape, planning constraints, light, views and privacy - alongside the daily patterns of the people who will live there. The result is contemporary architecture that is both striking and supremely liveable.
A riverside house in Berkshire exemplifies this approach. Designed to replace a former family home, the contemporary structure opens towards the River Thames while preserving mature trees and safeguarding privacy. Bedroom volumes are elevated into the treetops, allowing a transparent ground floor to connect fluidly with the garden. Advanced engineering solutions protect the landscape beneath, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to sustainability as well as design excellence.
In Radlett, a more formal setting called for a different expression. Behind a carefully composed façade lies a dramatic triple-height entrance hall, drawing views through to landscaped gardens and a swimming pool. Open-plan living spaces extend seamlessly outdoors, while dedicated areas for wellness, leisure and home working reflect
contemporary lifestyles. Rich natural materials, bespoke joinery and precisely detailed interiors create warmth within a refined modern framework.
A defining strength of Gregory Phillips Architects is its fully integrated design approach. Architecture, interiors and landscape are developed in parallel, ensuring coherence from masterplan to material finish. Lighting strategies, spatial flow and furniture placement are considered early, resulting in homes that feel calm, balanced and intuitive. Clients value not only the aesthetic quality, but also the clarity of process - a structured, collaborative journey from concept through to completion.
Peer recognition from organisations such as the Royal Institute of British Architects and the UK Property Awards reflects the studio’s ability to deliver contemporary houses that are both architecturally ambitious and technically assured. At its heart, the practice is driven by enduring values: craftsmanship, sustainability, innovation and discretion. Materials are selected for durability and authenticity. Layouts are designed to evolve with family life. Environmental performance is embedded from the outset.
In a Gregory Phillips contemporary home, luxury is not applied as a surface statement - it is built into the structure, the proportions and the experience of living. The result is architecture that enhances everyday life and stands confidently into the future.

CA’ PIETRA INTRODUCES ENSO
The
tactile limestone mosaic bringing a softer, more soulful mood to interiors
As interiors move towards spaces that feel warmer, quieter and richer in texture, Ca’ Pietra’s new Enso collection arrives at exactly the right moment. Crafted from tumbled limestone and shaped with a softly undulating surface, Enso is a mosaic designed to be experienced as much through atmosphere and touch as through pattern, bringing a more organic, gently time-worn finish to the home.
Inspired by the look of crystal-clear streams flowing over pebbles, Enso has a beautifully dappled surface that shifts with the light, giving walls and floors a sense of movement without ever feeling busy. It is this subtle play of texture, alongside the honesty of natural limestone, that makes the collection feel so relevant now, when the most inviting interiors are moving away from flatter, sharper finishes and towards materials that bring depth, softness and a more grounding kind of beauty.
Named after the Zen Buddhist concept of Ensō, which speaks to wholeness through imperfection, the collection carries that idea into the home in a way that feels elegant rather than literal. There is a calmness to it, though not a cold one. Instead, Enso has the kind of tactile character that makes a room feel settled and enveloping, whether it is used to line a shower, wrap a cloakroom in texture or bring a more sculptural finish to a kitchen wall.
The collection is available in a series of mosaic designs that each bring their own expression of the stone’s surface. Cube offers a neat, architectural feel, Strip gives a more elongated linearity, Organic Basketweave introduces a looser decorative note, while Sand & Chalk Chess taps into the growing
appetite for tonal checkerboard effects that feel softened, nuanced and quietly playful rather than graphic. That softer approach to pattern is very much where interiors are heading, especially in bathrooms, utility spaces and characterful kitchens, where smaller-scale tile layouts are being used to add charm without overwhelming a scheme.
Colourways span Chalk, Sand and Charcoal, which means Enso can move easily between the pale, chalky palettes that are shaping restful, monastic-inspired interiors and the deeper, moodier spaces that rely on texture rather than shine for their drama. Used in lighter tones, it brings a lovely mineral softness that sits naturally with plaster, oak and brushed brass. In Charcoal,
“Used

it becomes more cocooning and architectural, particularly when lit well, with the surface catching light across every gentle rise and dip. Ca’ Pietra recommends lighting the mosaics for the best effect, allowing that organic texture to come fully into view.
Grazzie Wilson, Head of Creative at Ca’ Pietra says: “With Enso, we wanted to create something that felt instinctive and deeply tactile, a surface with softness, movement and a natural ease to it. There is a real appetite now for rooms that feel more enveloping and more atmospheric, and Enso answers that beautifully through limestone, light and texture. It has detail, though it never feels overworked, which is what gives it such lasting appeal.”
Suitable for interior floors, interior walls and exterior walls, Enso has the versatility to move across the home while keeping that same tactile identity intact. It is a collection that feels trendaware, though not trend-bound, which is always where Ca’ Pietra is at its strongest: taking what people are leaning towards in interiors and translating it into surfaces with permanence, beauty and depth.

Incorporating structural glass into your home is a stylish and contemporary way to improve and upgrade your property – it can also have a positive impact on making your home more energy efficient.
We asked Peter Hazeldean, MD of frameless glass specialists Ion Glass to share some insights into how you can use glass in your home and the benefits it brings.
He says, ‘Ion Glass has a fully bespoke approach, designing and installing a wide range of glass projects in both modern and heritage homes. We specialise in frameless or minimally framed installations, which gives a really sleek result, with no clunky metal or wooden framework to detract from the simple beauty of the glass.
Frameless internal glass balustrades are perfect for making stairways more contemporary and allowing light to flow between the different levels of your house; bespoke frameless shower enclosures result in a truly minimal approach to bathroom design …or increase the size of your home with a glass extension or garden room, fully double-glazed for maximum heat retention.
Ion uses structural glass fins and beams to replace intrusive framework, creating robust and functional spaces built solely in glass.
‘Many clients are recognising the benefits of adding a contemporary frameless glass porch to the entrance of their homes. More than a style statement, a glass porch helps reduce energy costs – we design bespoke double-glazed panels to fully minimise heat loss or use single-glazing to create an attractive entrance that provides a thermal buffer zone, reducing heat loss when entering and leaving your home. If you have an open porch,

A RETURN TO WARMTH
At Fiona Howard we have wallpapers to complete this rising trend.
Earthy terracotta has long held a quiet authority in interior design. Rooted in nature, yet remarkably adaptable to contemporary spaces. Its warmth sits somewhere between sunbaked clay and oxidized earth, bringing an organic richness that instantly softens interiors. Terracotta tones evoke natural landscapes, handcrafted materials, and a slower, more intentional way of living. When used across walls, this hue creates a cocooning effect, making spaces feel intimate.
The emergence of Coloro’s 2028 Colour of the Year, Radiant Earth, signals a broader shift toward stability, sustainability, and emotional grounding. This shade builds on terracotta’s heritage but introduces an energised quality, suggesting renewal. To prepare for this shift, designers can layer similar tones, clay, rust, sienna, and warm
ochres, alongside natural elements, plants, shells and finds from nature. These colours work beautifully with natural materials like wood, stone and linen, reinforcing a tactile, sensory experience that aligns with the growing desire for authenticity in interiors.
Incorporating Radiant Earth-inspired tones doesn’t require a full redesign. Accent walls, upholstered furniture, or even smaller elements like cushions, vases, and rugs can introduce the palette gradually. Pairing these earthy reds with muted neutrals, such as sand, chalk, or warm grey, prevents the look from becoming overwhelming, while touches of greenery add vibrancy and balance. Lighting also plays a key role: warm, diffused light enhances the depth of terracotta hues, allowing them to shift beautifully throughout the day.
Ultimately, the appeal of earthy reds like terracotta and Radiant Earth lies in their psychological impact. These tones anchor us. In a fast-paced, digitally saturated world, they offer a visual and emotional counterbalance, reconnecting us with nature and materiality. Designing with these colours isn’t just an aesthetic choice; it’s a way of creating interiors that feel steady, nurturing, and deeply human. fionahoward.com

Why Spring is the time to restore your heritage windows
As spring returns, so does the desire to freshen up our home by throwing open the windows to let in the season’s warmth and light. Yet, in many period properties, this can be challenging.
Original sash windows, while steeped in character, can swell and stiffen over winter as they soak up months of rain, leaving frames waterlogged, affected by rot, and hard, or even impossible, to open. If you’ve found yourself huffing and heaving as you push windows up, you’ll recognise this scenario.
Expert help for heritage homes
Mitchell & Dickinson are experts in restoring heritage homes and making them more comfortable to live in. They use different techniques to do this, including applying virtuallyinvisible secondary glazing to listed and period windows, installing sheep’s wool insulation, and restoring heritage windows.
New life for old window frames
The company’s window restoration work goes beyond aesthetics. Its primary purpose is to minimise carbon emissions by retrofitting, making old window frames easy to use, ensuring they last many more winters, and keeping draughts at bay.
They are also passionate about protecting old buildings, taking great care to enhance them in ways that are in keeping with their age – and rules around listed status.
‘Everything we do is tailored to the property and sympathetic to its character,’ says Tom Coles, the company’s managing director.
‘Our skilled craftspeople repair and, wherever possible, retain the windows’ original timber. Combining traditional joinery with advanced epoxy resin techniques (the kind used in yacht manufacture) can restore even the most heavily worn windows.’
‘We don’t use external contractors,’ explains Tom. ‘Our team are experienced professionals who care as much about your home as you do.’ Their expertise has seen them commissioned to restore windows in some of England’s most notable heritage buildings.
Spring into action
Spring and summer are ideal for this work. Milder weather allows windows to be restored with minimal disruption, while improvements made now will pay off when temperatures drop again – a simple upgrade your future self will thank you for.
