New Visitor Centre Opens at Winkworth Arboretum

This summer, visitors to Winkworth Arboretum will be welcomed through a brand-new entrance building at the National Trust’s only arboretum.

The new centre features Surrey’s newest café, a welcoming visitor reception, National Trust shop, and modern toilet facilities, including a Changing Places facility, addressing long-standing needs identified through public consultation.

The café offers seasonal food alongside a spacious indoor seating area and an inviting outdoor terrace. A newly relocated pay and display car park, complete with electric vehicle charging points, will help ease congestion, improve access and support more sustainable travel.

Designed by IPT Architects, the building draws inspiration from Winkworth’s iconic wooden boathouse and founder Dr Wilfrid Fox’s philosophy of “painting with trees”. Clad in larch

that will naturally weather into the surrounding woodland, the structure frames sweeping views of the landscape through expansive picture windows.

Rhona MacCallum, National Trust General Manager, said: “Seeing the building open is a hugely rewarding moment for our team. We’re proud to now offer facilities that feel worthy of the beauty of our arboretum. We hope visitors feel the spirit of Winkworth reflected in this space—welcoming, thoughtful and rooted in the landscape. Every visit, whether enjoying the café or shopping with us, directly supports the care of Winkworth Arboretum.”

Winkworth Arboretum was created by Dr Wilfrid Fox in 1937 as a landscape designed for seasonal colour. Today, it remains one of the National Trust’s most distinctive sites, celebrated for its dramatic autumn displays and vibrant spring blooms.

Guests are invited to wander through wildflower meadows, explore the vineyard and discover artworks thoughtfully positioned throughout the grounds.

Adding to the occasion is the launch of High Clandon’s latest five-year-aged prestige vintage Cuvée. Renowned for producing small quantities of exceptional English sparkling wine, the vineyard has earned multiple Gold Medal awards for its elegant, aged-vintage wines. The newest release will be available to enjoy by the glass or bottle throughout the exhibition.

A new addition for 2026 is Sundown in the Vineyard, a series of special pre-booked evening openings on Thursdays and Fridays. These exclusive twilight sessions offer visitors the chance to experience the artwork and vineyard atmosphere as the sun sets over the vines, accompanied by a glass of High Clandon’s celebrated sparkling wine.

Founded two decades ago by Sibylla and Bruce Tindale, High Clandon was established with an ambitious vision: to create world-class English sparkling wine from a chalky limestone hillside in the Surrey Hills, sharing the same geological foundations as France’s renowned Champagne region.

The event also supports a worthy cause. Visitors are asked to make an £8 entrance donation, with all proceeds benefiting Cherry Trees charity. In addition, 10 per cent of art sales are donated, while artists retain the full value of their work, making this a celebration of art, community and philanthropy alike.

Heritage Crafts in the Spotlight

Surrey Craft Legacies is a heritage craft exhibition celebrating traditional and endangered craft skills in Farnham, England’s first World Craft Town. It brings together historic stained-glass windowmaking, silk weaving, rush work, brush-making, and encaustic tile-making with jewellery, woodturning, tapestry, studio glass, and other skilled contemporary crafts.

Across the UK, traditional craft skills once central to daily life are quietly disappearing. Some now survive through only a small number of practitioners. Surrey Craft Legacies, led by New Ashgate Gallery, records these skills, shares them with new audiences and supports their continuation.

The exhibition brings together work by skilled craftspeople from across the UK who have shared their knowledge in Farnham and Surrey. Their work is shown alongside oral history films and

handmade objects created through community workshops. The films will be on show in the Gallery during the exhibition.

Featured makers include Adam Aaronson, Lydia Asscher, Jill Billings, Jane Browne, Caroline Egleston, Rosa Harradine, Sheila McDonald, Ella Merriman, Rachel Mulligan, Casandra Ponta, Fiona Rutherford, Martin Saban-Smith, Jessica Stroud, Jonathan Waights, Carolyn Wallis, Rae Weaver, Rosie Wesley and Anne Wolf.

The heritage skills outreach workshops took place in spring with community partners including Farnham Library, Hale Community Centre, DAiSY (Disability Arts in Surrey) and Farnham Assist. Some of the work made by participants during Jane Browne’s community workshop at Farnham Library will be shown in the exhibition, bringing local learning into the public display.

Together, the exhibition, films and workshop objects show how craft traditions are learned, adapted and passed on. They reveal the knowledge held in materials, tools and hand skills, and show heritage crafts as living practices shaped by makers and communities today.

Dr Outi Remes, Director of New Ashgate Gallery, said:

“These are highly skilled practices built over generations, yet some are now at serious risk. If they are not actively passed on, they will be lost.

This project records that knowledge and makes it accessible, while giving new people the chance to learn directly from experienced makers. The response from participants already shows how much these skills matter. People are gaining confidence, learning about heritage craft, and feeling more connected through making.”

The exhibition runs from 4 July to 5 September 2026 at New Ashgate Gallery, Waggon Yard, Farnham. newashgate.org.uk

PAUSE. NOTICE. CONNECT.

An invitation to slow down, awaken your senses, and reconnect with nature when you visit Painshill this summer.

Launching on 18 July (until 1 September), Pause. Notice. Connect. is a season of special events and mindful moments at Painshill – the exquisite Grade I listed 18th century landscape garden located in Cobham, Surrey.

Designed by Charles Hamilton (1704-1786) as a series of vistas to be experienced slowly – and to evoke the emotions of 18th century visitors – Painshill was lovingly built over more than 40 years. Hamilton intended his masterpiece to be felt, as much as seen.

This summer, Painshill will once again invite visitors to take their time, to notice the details they might ordinarily miss and to feel nature’s wonder.

From sensory walks to a sound bath in the famous Crystal Grotto – plus a special twilight wine tasting tour - the summer events programme provides visitors with opportunities to connect with Painshill in new ways, and to take time to connect with each other.

There’s also a packed programme for families, who can follow the Wonder Seekers Trail to find Pause Points across the landscape with fun, sensory prompts to notice moments in nature that are often overlooked. Plus Young Explorer

sessions, where children can step into nature and discover meadow life, map making, wild art, woodland habitats and more.

Hannah Liles, Interim Joint Director, Painshill, said: “Our historic landscape is the perfect place to pause, breathe and connect. From ancient trees to peaceful pathways, tranquil waters to panoramic views, take your time and notice the beauty, wildlife and hidden secrets around you.”

“Whether you’re visiting for the first time, or are a Painshill member, this summer we invite you to look closely, listen deeply and discover more.”

The Art of Timeless Kitchen Design

Abeautiful kitchen should still feel right in fifteen to twenty years time. The foundation of that is a design that anticipates not just how you live now, but how you will live over the years to come.

A young family’s kitchen will need to grow with them - a space that suits toddlers and highchairs must still work for teenagers. I remember how, in our last house, we rarely used the island as the children were very young, sitting in high chairs at the dining table. Yet now, in our current house, with the children now in their late teens, we all sit at the island for most meals. An older couple planning to stay in their home into their twilight years will value different things again: ease of movement, sensible heights, a layout that remains practical as their physical abilities change. The best kitchens are designed for your changing needs, not just for a single stage of life. Getting that right at the outset is what ensures a kitchen will endure.

Beyond the design itself, one principle is especially useful: distinguish between what is easy to change and what is not.

Hand-painted cabinetry is wonderfully forgiving. A colour that felt perfect a decade ago can be repainted to suit a new trend or simply a change of heart (and those dents can be filled and made good as new). Handles are even simpler - swap them and a kitchen shifts from traditional to contemporary in a day. These are the elements where you can afford be a bit bolder, knowing nothing is permanent.

The harder decisions sit beneath and around the cabinetry. Flooring, worktops and sinks are far more disruptive and costly to replace. This is

where restraint might pay off. Choose these for longevity, not fashion, with high quality, durable materials and timeless finishes.

So, invest in the fundamentals of your kitchen - the layout, spacing, quality of cabinetry, the permanent materials and let the finishing touches - colour, hardware, soft furnishings - reflect your personality, and evolve as you do.

At Chisholm Design, we specialise in designing for clients who want a kitchen that stands the test of time and still works just as well for them in years to come. To find out more or arrange a showroom visit, please do get in touch. chisholmdesign.co.uk

CLASSIC CARS ARE THE STARS AT WINDSORVIEW LAKES AUCTION

On Saturday 18th July, the rural waterside splendour of Windsorview Lakes - just minutes from Junction 5 of the M4 motorway – is the stunning setting for a major live auction of 180 fabulous classic and collector cars for all to enjoy.

The sale, by Ascot-based specialists Historics Auctioneers (www.historics.co.uk) comes hot on the heels of their feisty £3.5 million Spring auction at Farnborough International where - amidst rapturous applause - a super rare and immaculate 1987 Ford RS200 sold for a stunning £290,576. The iconic car, representative of Ford’s immense rally history, was just one of a hugely varied selection of evocative cars of yesteryear - at values to suit all pockets - that found new owners.

What’s clear from Historics’ consistently strong results is that the passion for classic car ownership is as strong as ever. Interestingly, the appeal amongst a younger audience continues to grow, reflected in the popularity of ‘modern classics’ manufactured in the 80s, 90s, 2000’s and newer still.

At Windsorview Lakes, there’s an exceptional opportunity is acquire an undisputable star – a further Ford RS200, but this time unregistered and in need of complete restoration. It has a fascinating history behind it, whilst ahead is the opportunity to bring to its former glory a true piece of immensely valuable classic car history.

Topping the list of Japanese sporting eye candy at the July sale amongst those of an impressionable age is a superbly-presented and restored 1972 Datsun 240Z, mega fresh despite its 50+ years.

Meanwhile, there’s the most delectable selection of some of the rarest high-performance BMWs. Echoing the 70’s vibe, there’s a 1977 BMW 633 CSi enjoyed by one family since new with an astonishingly meagre average mileage of less than 500 miles for each of its 49 years. And for those

magnetised by the feisty BMW ‘M’ line-up, there’s the most impressive collection you’re ever likely to witness on offer, in the shape of a collection of ultra-exclusive CS models.

What’s more there’s the rarest of the rare for sale - a striking, special-edition BMW M4 VR46, manufactured in miniscule numbers to celebrate the famous motorcycle racer Valentino Rossi –hence the ‘VR’ and Rossi signature on the roof and the sides emblazoned with a ’46’ graphic representing his racing number.

A duo of splendid and evocative 1930’s RollsRoyces strike an imposing pre-war note, whilst the best of British sportscar manufacturers is perfectly represented by an exquisite 1962 Triumph Spitfire. However, this one comes with a unique history as it is an original prototype, prepared by the factory to carry the Triumph flag in international motorsport. Road registered and with an impeccable and unique history, it’s hugely collectible and ready to deliver thrills aplenty to its next owner.

Take a thorough, close-up look at all entries on the three viewing days at the venue prior to the sale starting at 0930 on Saturday 18th July.

Steeped in History

The story of Loseley Park begins in the early years of the 16th century, when the Manor of Loseley was purchased during the reign of Henry VII. Its new owner, Sir Christopher More - Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex - was a man of considerable influence and authority. Yet it was his son, Sir William More, a direct ancestor of the present owners, who truly shaped Loseley’s legacy by embarking on an ambitious programme of building.

At the heart of the estate stands the magnificent Tudor manor house, located just three miles southwest of Guildford. Constructed between 1562 and 1568, the present house was built using stone salvaged from the ruins of nearby Waverley Abbey. It replaced an earlier, more modest dwelling - one that Elizabeth I famously deemed “not adequate” for a royal visit, prompting the construction of a grander residence worthy of her presence.

Loseley’s celebrated walled garden is based on a design by the renowned garden designer Gertrude Jekyll and is arranged as a series of distinct

“rooms,” each with its own character and planting theme. Redevelopment of the garden began in 1993–94 with the Rose Garden and has since expanded to include the Herb Garden, Flower Garden, White Garden, and, most recently, the organic Vegetable and Cut Flower Garden. Beyond the formal gardens, the Loseley Lakes offer a tranquil haven for both wildlife and visitors. These historic water features form part of the landscaped parkland surrounding Loseley House and once served practical purposes - providing fish, water, and beauty to the estate. Thanks to support from the Surrey Hills Farming in Protected Landscapes programme, the upper and lower lakes have recently been restored. The project has improved water quality, reopened views towards the house, and created thriving habitats for wildlife such as kingfishers and dragonflies. New picnic benches along the footpath now invite walkers to pause and enjoy the revitalised landscape.

Acquired by the direct ancestors of the current owners, the More-Molyneux family, at the beginning of the 16th century, Loseley Park remains a family home to this day. Still lived in by the More-Molyneux family, the estate opens to the public each spring, offering visitors a rare glimpse into centuries of English history set within a living landscape.

Monumental Nature:

Largest-ever outdoor

exhibition of Henry Moore works arrives at Kew Gardens Until Sunday 31 January 2027, Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens is showcasing a oncein-a-generation presentation of artworks by Henry Moore - one of the most influential and internationally recognised artists of the 20th century.

Monumental Nature represents the largest and most comprehensive showcase of Moore’s work to date, featuring 30 works across Kew’s entire 320acre UNESCO World Heritage Site - and inside the iconic Temperate House, the largest surviving Victorian glasshouse in the world.

The largest outdoor exhibition of its kind anywhere in the world, offers a fresh perspective on his lifelong engagement with natural forms and materials, creating new opportunities for visitors to encounter his monumental sculptures alongside Kew’s iconic vistas and historic glasshouses.

Throughout Moore’s career, this connection to nature remained a constant theme, reflected in his ability to transform its complexity and beauty into abstract forms that feel profoundly human. Moore believed that landscapes provided the perfect setting for his sculptures, where the natural architecture of the environment could amplify their visual and emotional impact.

Situating this remarkable body of work

amongst Kew’s heritage landscapes and living collections, the exhibition celebrates a connection to ecology, creating a unique interplay between art and the surrounding landscape. Throughout the run, visitors are encouraged to reflect on how they perceive and interact with the natural world. Works on display includes Large Two Forms, Sheep Piece, Large Reclining Figure, Oval with Points, Reclining Woman: Elbow, Locking Piece and Three-Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae.

Alongside the works across the Gardens, visitors will also be able to enjoy a comprehensive exhibition in Kew’s Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, featuring over 90 works including bronzes, stone and wood carvings, prints and drawings, exploring Moore’s unique process of ‘thinking through nature’.

In addition to the daytime exhibition, several exciting after-hours events see the Temperate House transformed as dusk falls. Running on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th June, and Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th July, these adult-only evenings will celebrate the summer solstice, through performances and artistic encounters across the glasshouse, co-curated with the Working Class Creatives Database.

This new exhibition is presented in partnership with the Henry Moore Foundation. The exhibition is included in a ticket to Kew Gardens via kew.org

DEFENDER BURGHLEY HORSE TRIALS 2026

The summer sporting and social season is upon us, which can only mean that just over the horizon is the colourful, competitive and captivating event that is the Defender Burghley Horse Trials.

Experience four days of exhilaration, including Dressage, Cross Country and Showjumping, set against the stunning backdrop of Burghley House –one of Britain’s most beautiful and historic venues. Experience the intensity and elegance of the CCI5*-L, where world-class athletes take on one of the event’s most demanding long-format challenges!

Each year Burghley’s organisers explore new ways to enhance the event for visitors to this autumn equestrian spectacular, with a growing suite of hospitality and exclusive experiences. The main hub of the Burghley Horse Trials’ site has had an upgrade and fresh look this year with a new Shopping Avenue to improve the fabulous retail

“Experience four days of exhilaration, including Dressage, Cross Country and Showjumping”

experience for which the event is so renowned.

Also for 2026, the event is delighted to offer brand-new reserved course-side parking at the Anniversary Splash - one of the most iconic parts of Burghley’s legendary cross-country course. This exceptionally beautiful spot in Burghley’s Capability Brown-designed parkland has spectacular views of Burghley House and some of the most exciting fences on the cross-country course, so parking spaces will be strictly limited.

Reserved picnic parking at the nearby Lion Bridge is already very popular and always sells out. These new course side spaces have been created after the introduction of similar ones on two other spots on the course last year proved incredibly sought-after. Don’t delay if you would like to secure a prime course-side picnic spot with a sideserving of premium cross-country action.

Following an instant success in 2025, the Lakeside Chalets, is back for 2026. If you would like a private, premium place to entertain friends, family or guests during Agria Burghley, these elegant tents, complete with garden furniture and outdoor as well as indoor space, are perfect. They offer stunning views of Burghley’s parkland and lake and very close to the Main Arena. The Chalets have already sold out for Saturday, but there are a small number still available for Thursday, 3 September, Friday, 4 September and Sunday, 6 September.

It’s always fascinating to get a little “behind the scenes” access to a major event such as Burghley Horse Trials and booking one of their official cross-country course-walks, is a great way to gain insight into the intricacies of designer Derek di Grazia’s legendary track.

Led by experts, these take place in small groups on Thursday, 3 September and Friday,

4 September, Both “long” (2.5 hours) and “short” (1.5 hours) options are available - and are an unbeatable way to discover more about this beautiful and challenging course before it is jumped on the Saturday.

And if you’d like to combine exclusive crosscountry insight with a glamorous start to your Burghley experience, we recommend Wednesday afternoon’s “Tea & the Trot-Up” on 2 September. This comprises a special Champagne afternoon tea, with a talk and Q&A with Burghley’s former long-serving course-designer and winning rider, Captain Mark Phillips - followed by a view of the first horse inspection from the Main Arena (not accessible by the public) and a tour of key crosscountry fences with Mark Phillips.

Celebrate the highlight of the autumn social calendar, at Defender Burghley, with world-class sport, outstanding shopping and hospitality – all the ingredients for the perfect day out!

London Transport Museum unveils ambitious transformation ahead of 50th anniversary

London Transport Museum has announced ambitious plans to transform its iconic Covent Garden home ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2030, creating a reimagined cultural destination in the heart of the capital.

The once-in-a-generation redevelopment will modernise the Museum’s Grade II listed building while preserving its historic character. Plans include a striking new entrance opening directly onto Covent Garden Piazza, alongside an additional 500 square metres of gallery and learning space designed to enhance the visitor experience.

The Museum will remain open throughout the transformation, with work carefully managed to minimise disruption.

The announcement follows a record-breaking year, with almost 450,000 visitors passing through the Museum in 2025 - its highest annual attendance since opening in Covent Garden in 1980. New initiatives, including Transported by Culture, have attracted wider audiences through music, theatre, art and design events, while more than 1.7 million people visited the site overall last year.

Alongside the physical redevelopment, sustainability is a major focus. The project will

introduce low-carbon heating and a series of environmental improvements that aim to reduce the Museum’s operational emissions by 90%, helping secure the future of the historic building.

Visitors can also expect upgraded facilities, expanded exhibitions and enhanced learning experiences that celebrate London’s transport heritage while exploring the future of design, engineering and sustainable cities. The Museum hopes the transformation will increase annual visitor numbers by more than 20%, bringing even more activity and creativity to Covent Garden.

Housed within the former Victorian flower market, London Transport Museum has been telling the story of London’s transport network for almost five decades. From the world’s first Underground railway and the capital’s famous red buses to modern innovations like the Elizabeth line, it continues to showcase how transport has shaped the city.

As work begins towards its landmark anniversary, the transformation promises to create a more accessible, sustainable and engaging destination, ensuring London Transport Museum remains one of the capital’s must-visit cultural attractions for years to come.

BLENDED FAMILIES AND THE ‘WHO GETS WHAT’ QUESTION:

The Importance of Private Wealth Planning

The Office of National Statistics shows that over half of step-families with dependent children are now blended families. Blended families consist of those where there might be second marriages, step-children, or co-habiting partners. It is essential that careful consideration is given to inheritance matters and tax consequences to ensure that, upon the death of a parent, step-parent or partner, disputes are minimised and assets are passed in accordance with the testator’s wishes.

One of the key issues for blended families is deciding who should benefit from an estate, and when, as assumptions are often made about entitlement that do not reflect how the law operates. Without considering inheritance and tax, assets may pass in ways that feel unintended and unfair, increasing the risk of conflict at an already difficult time. Substantial estates, business interests and international assets can magnify these tensions if planning is not carefully aligned with personal intentions.

This is particularly relevant where an individual is divorced and living with a new partner but is not married. Marriage revokes a Will, whereas divorce does not, meaning that outdated wishes or gifts can remain in place in the event of a divorce if Wills are not updated. Cohabiting partners do not have the same automatic rights or protections as spouses or civil partners, regardless

of the length of the relationship. Thoughtful planning can help balance providing security for a partner while preserving assets for children, offering reassurance to all involved.

Strained relationships between adult children, step-parents or in-laws, or situations where one side of the family has benefitted from lifetime gifts where the other has not, can increase the scope for disputes or claims to arise. Clear and transparent documentation of intentions, supported by consistent legal advice, can help manage expectations and reduce the risk of claims arising.

Estates (particularly those of high-value) can raise questions around the protection of wealth for future generations. Structures such as trusts can be used to manage how wealth is passed on, offering flexibility, tax efficiency and protection for beneficiaries. These structures can be set up during a lifetime, or in a Will – each with their own tax consequences. These tools can be particularly effective where there are young children, second marriages or concerns about future relationships.

Blended families can substantially benefit from forward thinking, bespoke advice that is tailored around both family relations and long-term wealth objectives. Not all disagreements can be avoided, however, taking the time to plan effectively and transparently can help protect assets, and provide clarity for future generations.

Grooming for all year round at ARRAN SENSE OF SCOTLAND

ARRAN Sense of Scotland is celebrating grooming as an essential part of everyday self-care - not just a gifting occasion but a genuine moment for himself in a busy schedule. With the UK Men’s grooming market growing by 3.5-4.2%, the shift is clear, more men are embracing skincare as a daily ritual worth investing in.

ARRAN has brought together its top hints and tips for making the most of the morning routine, along with simple ways to seamlessly weave these products into daily life.

Head of Product Development Robin Fisher, who helps formulate ARRAN’s best-selling Men’s collection, shares his expert advice on how to elevate the grooming routine with self-care at its core.

At ARRAN, the belief is simple: men don’t need an occasion to invest in themselves. Grooming and self-care should be part of everyday living. The best-selling Sannox collection is designed exactly for that, bringing together products that turn routine into ritual.

Start with good preparation

Begin the routine with a warm shower or hot face cloth to help soften skin and beard hair, open pores and prepare the skin for a smoother, more comfortable shave.

Prioritise hand and body care

Self-care goes beyond the face. A hydrating body wash is an easy upgrade that brings a touch of everyday indulgence. A standout choice is the Lochranza Bath & Shower Gel, featured in a joint set with Sannox, perfect for switching up the morning routine.

A good grooming routine doesn’t have to be complicated, opting for high-quality shaving products can help improve your routine. ARRAN’s Beard and Shave Oil is perfect for all uses - as a shave oil, pre-shave or beard conditioner featuring rich sensual leather scents combined with amber and oud to create a luxury fragrance.

The Scottish botanical inclusions like soothing milk thistle, olive-derived squalane, and nourishing jojoba oil, help improve razor glide, reduce irritation, and soften beard hair for a smoother, more comfortable shave.

Post-shave care is just as important

To help calm the skin after shaving and minimise irritation, follow with an after-shave product or moisturiser designed to protect and lock in hydration. Sannox After Shave Balm is the ideal finishing touch. Suitable for all skin types, the balm is enriched with Scottish oat extract, allantoin and aloe vera to deeply nourish, soothe, and absorb quickly into the skin, working to reduce post-shave irritation for skin that feels calm, refreshed, and cared for.

Science Over Sensation

In an industry driven by trends, The Cosmetic Doctors Company has built its reputation on something far more enduring: medical expertise, clinical integrity, and naturally beautiful results.

Based in Surrey, the clinic takes a refreshingly considered approach to aesthetic medicine. Every consultation and every treatment is carried out personally by one of its experienced doctors— never delegated to therapists or non-medical practitioners. It’s a distinction that reflects the clinic’s commitment to patient safety, personalised care, and the highest standards of medical practice.

Rather than following the latest cosmetic trends, The Cosmetic Doctors Company believes in evidence-based medicine. Every treatment

offered is supported by proven clinical research and recommended only when it is genuinely in the patient’s best interests. The focus is not on changing how someone looks, but on helping them look like the very best version of themselves.

No two patients are the same, which is why every consultation begins with listening. Treatment plans are tailored to the individual, taking into account facial anatomy, personal goals, and long-term outcomes. The result is subtle, elegant enhancement that never appears overdone.

As medical doctors first and aesthetic practitioners second, the team is guided by the same ethical principles that underpin all areas of medicine: honesty, safety, and putting the patient first. Patients can expect clear, balanced advice, with recommendations based on clinical judgement rather than commercial pressure.

It is this thoughtful approach that has earned the trust of patients across Surrey, South West London, and beyond, with many new patients arriving through personal recommendation.

For those seeking aesthetic treatments delivered with discretion, integrity, and exceptional medical expertise, The Cosmetic Doctors Company offers something increasingly rare—care that is grounded in science, guided by ethics, and focused on achieving natural, confident results.

The Cosmetic Doctors Company: Evidencebased aesthetic medicine. Delivered by experienced doctors. Always.

FROM HEALTH TO WEALTH

Aformer bank on Esher High Street is an unlikely venue for an NHS ‘rescue mission’ but the former Natwest is now a nerve centre to help struggling GP practices. The property, which served the community’s financial needs for a generation, has become a branch of a leading medical accountancy dedicated to supporting local doctor surgeries.

The number of GP surgeries in the UK has fallen by 1,000 since 2018, while patient numbers have risen 4.8 million and the battle for their survival is being fought across balance sheets as well as political lines.

“GP surgeries are under incredible financial pressures and we’ve all experienced difficulty or delay in getting even routine appointments, which is why they need fiscal support as well as adequate resourcing,” said Vijay Acharya, who runs accountants Charles Rippin and Turner (CRT), which has worked with GP practices since the NHS was founded. “We opened in Esher because it has a wonderful community and excellent transport links. I can easily get to the hundreds of

practices we look after.”

The busy accountancy practice, located a few doors from Tesco, is dealing with a rising demand for assistance from GP surgeries across Surrey, London and the UK.

“Sadly, a lot of them are facing meltdown because of a funding crisis that is hitting their ability to run efficiently,” added Mr Acharya, a leading NHS financial analyst. “Practices in England have lost 20% of their fundings in real terms over the last decade while costs and demands have risen significantly.”

“The busy accountancy practice, located a few doors from Tesco, is dealing with a rising demand for assistance from GP surgeries across Surrey, London and the UK”

“It means surgeries closing and merging meaning patients are missing out on the experience of having one GP they have known for years. They are also having to travel further to see a doctor.”

A report by the British Medical Association, which represents the majority of doctors working in GP surgeries, called for greater government investment in the sector to reduce the dangers from financial pressures impacting recruitment and the ability to cope with rising costs and patient appointments that have reached 1.5 million every day across the UK.

CRT, whose FCA and FCCA-qualified team acts for more than 200 medical practices and healthcare professionals, is taking on extra administrative staff to cope with raised levels of red tape that are complicating the daily business of running a GP surgery.

Mr Acharya is preparing to recruit more staff as demand increases. He said` “Patients are caught in the middle and the pressure on frontline doctors is intensifying by the day, pushing GP practices to breaking point. But we are doing all we can to help more practices navigate their way through these difficult times while lobbying for changes to sort the core issues.”

A major stress point is that many GP surgeries do not have access to MRI, CT scans and endoscopies and are forced to send their patients to over-stressed hospitals to get basic scans.

“This can cause patients to rebound between primary and secondary care, creating mountains of paperwork and delays that result in patient’s health worsening,” said Mr Acharya, whose firm has supported GP practices the start of the NHS in 1948. “There is huge regional variation and, ultimately, patients suffer. This is a completely broken system.”

Working with individual doctors, surgeons and healthcare practitioners, as well as small and medium-sized healthcare firms, hospital departments and medical authorities, Charles Rippin and Turner (CRT), provides expertise across pensions, expenses and personal tax services to company secretary services, premises procurement and grant funding applications.

The New Gold Standard in Women’s Wellness

The Pelvic Floor Revolution Every Woman Should Know About

The pelvic floor may be hidden from view, but its influence on daily life is profound. This intricate hammock of muscles supports the bladder and bowel, stabilises the core, protects posture and plays a vital role in confidence and comfort. When strong, it works silently in the background. When weakened, it can subtly - and sometimes significantly - undermine a woman’s quality of life.

Life events such as pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause, high-impact exercise and natural ageing all place cumulative strain on the pelvic floor. Yet despite its importance, pelvic floor health is rarely discussed openly. Symptoms often begin quietly: leaking when laughing or sneezing,

a sudden urgency to use the toilet, reduced confidence during exercise, lower back discomfort or a sense of diminished support through the core. Over time, these changes can influence posture, physical performance and emotional wellbeing, leading many women to adapt their lives around the problem rather than address it.

Pelvic floor exercises are traditionally recommended, but they rely heavily on correct technique and long-term consistency - both of which can be difficult to master without specialist guidance. For women who struggle to engage the right muscles, results can be limited and frustrating. This is where EMSELLA introduces a refined, modern alternative. Often referred to as the ‘Kegel chair’, EMSELLA is a non-invasive treatment designed to strengthen the pelvic floor without physical effort. Fully clothed, you sit comfortably while high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology stimulates the muscles beneath the surface.

The electromagnetic pulses create powerful supramaximal contractions that engage both deep and superficial muscle layers - far beyond what can be achieved through exercise alone. In a single 28-minute session, EMSELLA delivers the equivalent of about 11,000 pelvic floor contractions, helping to retrain neuromuscular pathways, improve muscle tone and restore control. The experience is comfortable, discreet and requires no downtime.

Suitable for women of all ages, EMSELLA is particularly beneficial for those experiencing bladder leaks, post-pregnancy changes or the hormonal shifts of menopause. With no internal examination and no downtime after, it offers an elegant solution for modern, busy lives. Because strength, support and confidence should feel effortless.

At Radiance by Alison, EMSELLA treatments are offered in a calm, professional setting in Weybridge Surrey. To introduce this advanced technology, the clinic is offering an exclusive course of six sessions for £500, along with a complimentary trial session and consultation.

V& A Museum Presents

Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art

The Sainsbury Gallery, until 8 November 2026

The first exhibition ever staged in the UK devoted to Schiaparelli.

Spanning the 1920s to the present day, the exhibition charts the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most innovative fashion designers, Elsa Schiaparelli. The show traces the origins of the house, from its first, paradigm shifting garments, through to its present-day incarnation in the hands of its creative director, Daniel Roseberry.

Featuring new research undertaken by art and fashion curators focused on the creative collaborations and output of founder Elsa Schiaparelli, the exhibition places her at the nexus of innovation, a key figure within a stellar sphere of fashion, art and performance which spanned the cities of Paris, London, and New York in the years between the two world wars and up to her retirement in 1954. It highlights the history of a female entrepreneur and showcases her celebrated, yet little-seen garments from the history of fashion. The exhibition is the first of its kind to spotlight

the London branch of Schiaparelli, its dynamic and independent clients and the founder’s own involvement in the satellite location.

The exhibition comprises over 200 objects, including garments, accessories, jewellery, paintings, photographs, sculpture, furniture, perfumes and archive material. The diversity of media, styles and subjects celebrates the house of Schiaparelli’s boundless creativity. The V&A holds some of Elsa Schiaparelli’s most radical designs. The exhibition features the V&A’s ‘Skeleton’ dress and the ‘Tears’ dress, along with a hat shaped to look like an upside-down shoe, all conceived in collaboration with Salvador Dalí.

Artworks by Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau and Man Ray are also on display. The exhibition references the popularity of Schiaparelli’s designs for film and theatre productions. Schiaparelli possessed a vibrant artistic sensibility. Turning ordinary items into innovative clothing, accessories and jewellery, she created the most memorable fashions of the day. Her couture house, the most discussed of interwar Paris, redefined standards of style and definitions of beauty.

Today, from the iconic Schiaparelli atelier at 21 Place Vendôme, creative director Daniel Roseberry accompanies the storied Maison into its next chapter, establishing an oeuvre that continues to shape and inspire global culture today.

SKIN VEILING

2026’s sheer-layering movement is redefining complexion perfection, replacing heavy coverage with translucent, second-skin luminosity.

After several years dominated by either full-glam sculpting or glass-skin shine, beauty is moving into a more refined middle ground. The latest complexion trend, known as Skin Veiling, focuses on creating a barely-there finish through strategic, sheer layers that enhance rather than conceal. The result is skin that looks naturally perfected – breathable, dimensional and quietly luxurious.

At the centre of Skin Veiling is the idea that coverage should be built like fabric: lightweight, flexible and almost imperceptible. Rather than masking the face in one uniform layer, products are applied selectively in thin washes, allowing natural skin texture, freckles and tonal variation to remain visible. The effect feels polished but deeply authentic, reflecting a wider appetite for realism in beauty.

The trend has emerged alongside fashion’s growing obsession with transparency, fluid fabrics

and understated elegance. Just as organza, mesh and silk layering have returned to the runway, makeup is mirroring that same philosophy. Skin appears softly filtered, not perfected beyond recognition. It is less about transformation and more about refinement.

Complexion products are evolving to support this shift. Skin tints, serum foundations and lightweight concealers are becoming the backbone of everyday makeup routines, replacing heavier matte formulas. Instead of creating a blank canvas, they work to unify tone while preserving movement and light. Strategic concealing around the nose, chin or under-eyes becomes more important than all-over coverage.

Glow within Skin Veiling is subtle and controlled. Unlike the wet-look finishes that dominated previous years, luminosity is concentrated in targeted points – the tops of cheeks, temples and the bridge of the nose –

NARS LIGHT REFLECTING FOUNDATION £42, AVAILABLE AT NARS AND BOOTS
KOSAS CLOUD SET POWDER £32, AVAILABLE AT CULT BEAUTY AND SEPHORA UK

creating dimension without overt shine. Powder still plays a role, but only where needed, helping maintain balance rather than flattening the complexion.

The rest of the face follows suit. Blush is soft and sheer, often in skin-like peach, rose or muted terracotta tones, while bronzer is diffused seamlessly into the perimeter of the face. Eyes are kept minimal, often with cream shadows or softly defined lashes, allowing the skin itself to remain the focal point. Lips are lightly stained or glossed, enhancing their natural tone.

Part of Skin Veiling’s appeal lies in its practicality. Lightweight layers tend to wear more gracefully throughout the day, making touchups simpler and reducing the risk of caking or separation. It is particularly suited to warmer months, travel and long event days, where comfort matters as much as appearance.

Ultimately, Skin Veiling reflects a broader beauty mood: intentional restraint. In place of obvious artistry comes something quieter, fresher and more sophisticated. It celebrates skin as it is, softened only where necessary, and suggests that modern beauty is no longer about covering everything –but revealing just enough.

Styling an Icon: 5 ways to style the CH24 Wishbone Chair

“Scandinavian design’s golden age truly took flight around the time of the postwar furniture boom, meaning the two styles borrowed characteristics from each other relentlessly”

Ah, Scandinavia, the mere mention of the word conjures imagery of Mads Mikkelsen pedalling down a Copenhagen cycle path on his way to acquire Kardemummabullar at some local bakery. But when we’re not thinking of the pastries or the pastel coloured buildings, we’re thinking, of course, about the furniture. None can claim to be a Scandi design symbol more than the perfection in paper cord that is Hans Wegner’s CH24 Wishbone chair.

While it is an icon of Northern Europe by one of the old masters of chair making, times and trends change, so how can you adapt one of Denmark’s finest to your own tastes? Time to find out in our style guide below.

Mid-century masterpiece: To call the CH24 a

Mid-Century chair would be about as accurate as you can get. Released at the very midpoint of the 20th century in 1950, its symbiosis with this era of furniture is almost guaranteed. Scandinavian design’s golden age truly took flight around the time of the post-war furniture boom, meaning the two styles borrowed characteristics from each other relentlessly. Hence why both often deploy copious amounts of wood, clean lines and versatility, all qualities that define the star of this article.

To make them both work in your home is to harmonise their defining qualities. Take a hero piece like a large oval dining table and balance its understated splendour with Oak Oiled CH24s, add that signature 1950s flash of brilliance with a statement primary coloured rug, then add in something with a paper shade for the pendant light.

Icons of industry: From a match made in 1950s heaven to perhaps the most unlikely couple in design - they do say opposites attract. In this case, that is incredibly fortunate, because the contrast between the dulcet tones of the industrial world and the soft shades of the Scandi one is so stark that they actually work together rather beautifully. Albeit with a very specific edition of the CH24. We are, of course, talking about the sultry, obsidian hues of the all-black version.

The recipe for this stylistic choice is simple: muted tones, rich textures and bold, straight-edged shapes. Take a dark obsidian dining table to match the accompanying chairs, brighten the space both above and below, firstly with a silvery but sleek rug and then with a moody, maximalist spotlight.

Supplemented Scandi: We’ve arrived; it had to happen eventually. The obvious choice for one of the most recognisable symbols of Danish design, surrounded by other icons from its homeland. Make hygge (Google is your friend for the uninitiated) your priority and set yourself up for a serene Scandi dining experience like no other. Bright wood, and lots of it, should take centre stage. In fact, every surface that is not part of the floor or attached to the ceiling should embrace it. Save warm yet simplistic hues and soft textures for those remaining elements.

Place Oak Soaped CH24s around an equally tranquil table in a similar finish, add an earthtoned rug, and complete the setting with a pastel pendant, perhaps from Louis Pouslen, a true lesson in Scandinavian illumination.

Abstract and Artful: One style that Danish design is rarely associated with is abstract furniture. Peaceful and serene, yes, but typically uniform. Make no mistake, this works massively in its favour

feast your eyes on Carl Hansen’s collection of colourful classics: from Orange to Olive, Hans Wegner’s masterpiece is perfectly placed to go hueto-hue with your boldest statement pieces. Roll out the leopard print carpet, place your colourful chairs around a multi-hued table base, and complete the scene with the exuberant glow of a statement pendant that conveys your own unique style.

Cosy Club: Let’s wrap up this list with the perfect setting for those of us who need a cosy place to close out the day. When it comes to the CH24, it is not just the materials that create a comforting atmosphere, but the shapes and colours too. Rounded curves, smooth, supple lines, all carefully carved in this case from that great conveyor of calm: walnut. A timber that naturally exudes warmth and welcome, while offering an effortlessly easy-on-the-eye aesthetic. So, we know walnut is the way forward, but we are aiming for the pinnacle of home comfort.

Start your setting with the softness of a thick, fluffy rug, then lean into the craftsmanship of wood specialists, use a dark timber like Walnut to consolidate the cosiness. Finally, complete the atmosphere with a soft, glowing set of lamps surrounding the area. chaplins.co.uk

Shaping Homes Across Surrey, Sussex and London

Tucked away in the heart of the South East, where craftsmanship still carries quiet authority, Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery stands as a reminder that true skill never goes out of style. Established 20 years ago in Surrey by master carpenter and cabinetmaker Thomas Streeter, the company has built a reputation that extends across Surrey, Sussex, and London, driven by consistently exceptional work.

What distinguishes Acorn is its resolute commitment to bespoke design. In an age of mass production, there’s something deeply reassuring about a workshop dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind pieces, tailored precisely to the homes and lifestyles they inhabit. Whether it’s fitted furniture designed to maximise space or intricate architectural joinery that defines a room’s character, every commission reflects a level of care

and attention that’s increasingly rare.

At the centre of the business is Thomas. Unlike many founders who step back from dayto-day operations as their companies grow, he remains closely involved throughout. From the first conversation with a client through to the final installation. That continuity is evident in the finished product. There’s a cohesion, a sense that nothing has been lost in translation between the design and execution.

Acorn’s clientele is as telling as its craftsmanship. Alongside discerning private homeowners, the company collaborates with some of the country’s leading interior designers, architects and builders. These partnerships speak volumes; in industries where reputation is everything, Acorn has become a trusted name for those who expect precision and reliability.

The result is a business that balances heritage craftsmanship with contemporary expectations. Projects are delivered on time, to exacting standards, yet retain the unmistakable mark of handmade quality. In a region with rich heritage and design-conscious homeowners, Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery feels perfectly at home, shaping interiors built not just to impress, but to last.

TOP THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN DESIGNING A SHOWER SPACE

Want to refresh your shower space but don’t know where to start? With so many styles and options to choose from, it can be hard to know what will work best in your room. Here, Emily Lack, Designer from Ripples, talks through the top things to consider when designing a shower space.

GET SAVVY WITH STORAGE

If room is tight within a shower area, concealed fittings are the perfect choice. By hiding the pipes within the wall cavity, the fittings sit flush to the wall, reducing the possibility of bumping into them when showering and creating a sleek finished look. You can create additional in-shower storage by utilising the void in a stud or false wall to build alcoves for storing shower products, in turn maximising space on the floor. These alcoves can easily become a real design feature, by adding lighting and/or contrasting tiles to inject personality into the space.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT GLASS

Shower glass comes in many shapes and sizes but there’s always an option to suit your space. Firstly,

think about whether you want a shower enclosure or a more open space with a shower screen. If you’re opting for an enclosure, consider which shape will work best, such as pentagonal to utilise the corner of a room or three-sided if you have a bit more space available. If you go for shower glass, think about which style you like, whether that be Crittall-style, fluted or the emerging trend, etched.

GO ECO

Sustainability within bathrooms has never been more important than it is right now and with the cost of living also rising exponentially, it’s important to consider the ways in which you can minimise excess energy and water consumption within the bathroom. One way to reduce water usage is to choose a shower head fitted with a flow restrictor. Luckily, this option doesn’t mean you end up with a substandard shower as each flow restrictor shower has been carefully designed to reduce water consumption but still offer a pleasurable showering experience. Alternatively, you can opt for a technology-led shower which enriches shower water with air droplets, making for an invigorating shower experience.

More Than Somewhere to Swim

For many homeowners, a private swimming pool begins as a long-held aspiration. Its impact, however, often extends far beyond the water itself.

While swimming remains one of the most popular forms of exercise, a pool can also transform the way people use and enjoy their homes. Gardens become destinations rather than spaces viewed from indoors, encouraging homeowners to spend more time outside and make the most of their surroundings.

A pool naturally creates opportunities for relaxation and connection. It might be the setting for an early morning swim before the day begins, a family barbecue on a summer afternoon or a quiet evening spent unwinding after work. In many homes, it becomes a focal point around which everyday life unfolds.

For families, a swimming pool often brings generations together. Children, parents and grandparents can all enjoy the space in different ways, creating shared experiences and lasting memories. Long after the installation is complete, it is often these moments that owners value most.

The presence of a pool can also influence the wider design of a property. Outdoor dining areas, terraces, landscaping and carefully considered lighting frequently evolve around it, helping to create a more cohesive and inviting environment. Rather than existing as a standalone feature, the pool becomes part of a broader outdoor lifestyle.

Convenience is another important factor. Having a pool at home makes it easier to incorporate regular exercise into a busy schedule, while also providing a place to relax without leaving the property. For many homeowners, this combination of wellbeing and enjoyment is a significant part of the appeal.

Ultimately, a swimming pool is about more than swimming. It can change how people entertain, how they spend time with family and how they experience their home. By encouraging activity, relaxation and togetherness, it has the potential to become one of the most valued parts of a property for years to come.

The Best Luxury Dog Beds for Keeping Dogs Cool and Content in Hot Weather

Award-winning British luxury dog bed designers

Charley Chau have been keeping canines in sublime comfort since 2010, with thousands of happy customers in over 60 countries worldwide. Paired with beautiful styling and exceptional performance, Charley Chau is a dog lover’s perfect summer destination for bedding that will help keep a furry friend cool and content when temperatures rise.

Charley Chau shares their shopping edit of the best luxury dog beds for summer 2026, which combine cooling comfort with beautiful design for a home’s interiors to help with hot days and balmy nights.

Stretch Out, Cool Down

Christine Chau, Creative Director & Chief Product Designer for Charley Chau says: “Dogs don’t cool down by sweating like humans. Along with panting, one of the ways that dogs cool themselves down is to lie down on their side and stretch out fully, so they can release heat through their paws and ears, as well as redirected their blood to their skin to release heat.”

Charley Chau’s classic pillow-style dog bed mattress is perfectly suited for dogs to stretch out and cool down, plus they are super easy to move around the home (or garden) in pursuit of a cool spot to get further respite from the heat.

Colours Count

Many dog owners choose dark colours for dog bedding as they’re more forgiving on visible dirt, but dark colours absorb, retain and radiate much more heat from sunlight than pale colours. In hot weather, Charley Chau recommends choose pale colours for a dog’s bedding to help create a cooler sleep sanctuary for a dog.

Cool Cotton for the Burrow Obsessed in OnTrend Spots

While humans may be melting to a puddle, many dogs still seek cosy sleeping spaces even during warm weather, particularly breeds such as Dachshunds, Whippets, Italian Greyhounds and Vizslas, who feel the cold easily.

The Dog Snuggle Bed in on-trend Dotty Cotton offers the security of Charley Chau’s signature sleeping bag-style design while using a breathable cotton outer fabric that feels cooler than heavier upholstery materials. The bed also allows dogs to move easily between sleeping under the cover and on top of it throughout the day, helping them regulate their own comfort levels.

Elevated Cool

Raised dog beds are a smart-weather choice because air can circulate beneath the sleeping surface. Charley Chau’s Raised Rattan Dog Bed as shown above combines this practical cooling benefit with one of the biggest interiors trends of recent years: natural rattan furniture - something Charley Chau offers in many other ‘basket’ dog bed styles.

Layer for Cool Nights

Whilst it may be hot during the day, temperatures can drop significantly overnight. Draping a blanket in their bed such as the Charley Chau Double Fleece Blanket at night-time is the easiest way to ensure a dog is cosy when the air is cooler. Then during the day, if it’s hot simply roll up the blanket and put it to one side of the bed.

Trusted by customers in over 60 countries worldwide, Charley Chau beds and blankets are not just supremely comfortable – keeping dogs cosy, calm and content through their lifetime – they’re also designed to stand up to the practicalities of everyday life, making them a wise investment for a dog and the home, no matter the season. Their range of luxe bedding looks beautiful in the home too.

The Houses That Tell a Story

Every home has its own character. Some simply need more space; others call for a complete reimagining. At Thames Design & Build, every project begins by understanding how a house is lived in before considering how it should evolve.

Whether creating the architectural concept from the first sketch or bringing another architect’s vision to life, the team’s integrated approach ensures that architects and builders work seamlessly together from start to finish. The result is homes that feel thoughtfully considered, beautifully crafted and entirely at ease with their surroundings.

A recent project on Winchester Road in Esher demonstrates this philosophy perfectly. A double-storey side extension and complete internal renovation transformed a traditional tilehung family home while preserving its warmth and character. At its heart sits a beautifully proportioned kitchen, centred around a marble island and elegant brass lighting, designed as much for everyday family life as for entertaining.

In nearby Hampton Wick, the emphasis shifted from open-plan living to carefully considered retreats. A bespoke cinema room, concealed

cocktail bar and hidden walk-in pantry were integrated into the home, proving that luxury often lies in the details that remain quietly understated.

Elsewhere, in Thames Ditton, a rear extension and loft conversion created bright, versatile living spaces that connect effortlessly with the garden while providing valuable additional accommodation above. In Surbiton, meticulous attention to detail saw a wallpapered door disappear seamlessly into the surrounding wall, concealing a utility room and preserving the calm simplicity of the interior.

Although every commission is unique, the philosophy remains consistent. Design is never about imposing a signature style but about creating homes that feel as though they have always belonged. By combining architectural expertise with exceptional craftsmanship under one roof, Thames Design & Build delivers projects where every detail has been carefully considered, and every space reflects the people who live there.

The finest homes are rarely the loudest. They are simply the ones that feel effortlessly right.

Richmond Oak Glazed Extensions

Richmond Oak Glazed Extensions creates bespoke oak-framed and painted Hardwood living spaces for homeowners who want to add character, light and practical space to their properties. Specialising in oak conservatories, orangeries and garden rooms, the company focuses on designing extensions that feel individual rather than standardised. Each project is shaped around the client’s home, lifestyle and vision, helping to create a space that can be used for family life, entertaining or quiet relaxation.

A Richmond Oak glazed extension is designed to bring the outdoors closer while improving the way a home can be enjoyed throughout the year. The combination of glass and seasoned oak allows natural light to flow through the room, while the warmth and texture of the oak frame helps the extension blend beautifully with its garden setting. Whether the aim is a larger kitchen, a tranquil garden retreat or a stylish entertaining area, the company’s approach is centred on creating a room that feels both elegant and functional. By using fully seasoned oak a unique dual colour option is possible where the outside can be painted to match the house and still have a natural oak interior.

The business places strong emphasis on craftsmanship and durability. Its extensions are built using fully seasoned oak, chosen for its strength, stability and long-lasting appeal. Richmond Oak also highlights the importance of comfort, using features such as solar control glass, ventilation and heating solutions to help make its glazed spaces usable in every season. Using their unique solar control glass glazing to roof and frames you will not find it too hot in Summer or too cold in Winter.

Another key part of the Richmond Oak service is its support through the full design and build journey. The process begins with a consultation, followed by a bespoke design stage that can include 3D illustrations. Once the design is

“Craftsmanship and durability. Its extensions are built using fully seasoned oak, chosen for its strength, stability and long-lasting appeal”

approved, the company can deal with planning permission and building regulations before moving on to construction. As nearly half the Company’s work has been providing solutions for Listed Properties, this is particularly valuable for owners of listed buildings, conservation area properties and homes in sensitive locations, where specialist knowledge is often required.

With a focus on bespoke design, natural materials and a guided customer experience, Richmond Oak Glazed Extensions offers homeowners a way to transform ordinary areas into distinctive, light-filled living spaces that enhance both the property and everyday life. For more contemporary requirements the Company has it’s Hallmark Living Spaces range of timberalternative materials.

Back to School Decor: Essential bedroom tweaks to help kids focus and relax this term

As the countdown to the new school year begins, parents are shifting their focus from summer holidays to school uniform prep and academic routines. However, design experts at Nordic wallcovering studio FEATHR point out that one of the most powerful tools for easing this transition is a child’s own bedroom.

“The start of the school year is a massive psychological shift for kids,” says Anne Puukko, co-founder of FEATHR. “Suddenly, their bedroom is asked to pull double-duty— functioning as a quiet study hub by day and a calming sanctuary by night. Simple, intentional redecoration with designer wallpaper can help children mentally switch between ‘homework mode’ and ‘rest mode’ without feeling overwhelmed.”

To help parents prepare their homes for the autumn term, FEATHR shares four practical decoration tips to optimize children’s rooms for focus, learning, and emotional wellbeing.

Style a Dedicated “Study Zone” (Even in Small Rooms)

Mixing sleep spaces with workspaces can lead to

subconscious restlessness. For a successful backto-school setup, use clever decor styling to visually isolate the homework desk.

The Decor Tip: Position the desk facing away from the bed. Use a distinct wall mural or a block of structured, geometric wallpaper behind the desk area. This creates a clear visual boundary that signals to a child’s brain that it is time to sit down and focus, leaving the rest of the bedroom’s distractions behind them.

Ditch “High-Octane” Colours for Calming Palettes

While bright, primary-coloured bedrooms are popular for toddlers, high-saturation reds and bright yellows can cause sensory overload and anxiety in school-aged children trying to concentrate or unwind.

“While bright, primary-coloured bedrooms are popular for toddlers, high-saturation reds and bright yellows can cause sensory overload and anxiety in school-aged children trying to concentrate or unwind”

The Decor Tip: Update the room’s color palette with muted, earthy tones inspired by Scandinavian design. Swap out loud accents for soft sage greens, warm terracottas, soothing stone greys, and deep ocean blues. These shades are proven to lower heart rates, reduce eye strain, and create an atmosphere of quiet concentration perfect for reading.

Bring the Outdoors In with Biophilic Design

Integrating elements of nature into a study space—known as biophilic design—is proven to lower cortisol (stress) levels and improve cognitive stamina during mentally tiring school weeks.

The Decor Tip: Maximise natural light by positioning the study desk near a window and dressing the surrounding feature wall with a largescale forest mural. This setup does more than look beautiful. Looking at a sweeping tree acts as a visual reset button for a child’s brain. During intense study sessions or screen-heavy homework, these natural vistas give a child’s eyes a healthy place to rest.

Breathe Easy: High Quality Inks Provide Toxin-Free Air Quality

A hidden barrier to a child’s concentration and sleep quality during the hectic school term is poor indoor air quality. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) commonly found in traditional solventbased paints can cause subtle headaches and afternoon lethargy.

The Decor Tip: When redecorating for the new school year, choose materials that protect indoor air health. Opt for wallcoverings printed with water-based HP Latex inks on breathable non-woven papers. Holding prestigious GREENGUARD Gold and UL ECOLOGO certifications, this technology ensures the room remains odorless, allowing your child to sleep safely in the room.

The most inspiring classrooms aren’t always at school: they’re the spaces at home that quietly fuel focus, fire up imagination, and welcome deep, restful sleep when the textbooks finally close.

We’ve shared our four essential bedroom tweaks, but how will you style your student’s sanctuary this term? Explore the full range of Feathr wallpapers and discover which design will transform your child’s room into their ultimate study hub and peaceful retreat. feathr.com
