TEEING UP GLEN MORAY SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY
Scotland is famed as the birthplace of many great inventions. But surely two of its most iconic are whisky and golf. Essentials on any itinerary north of the border, both have deep roots through centuries of Scottish history, and continue to be celebrated and enjoyed by new generations.
For one of the UK’s best loved – and bestselling – single malt whiskies Glen Moray, there’s a new connection.
The Speyside dram is toasting its second year as the Official Whisky of the Senior Open Championship: Europe’s only senior major golf championship and a rare opportunity to see 144 of the world’s greatest 50-plus golfing legends in action.
Berkshire’s esteemed Sunningdale Golf Club is the setting this year (24 – 27 July) with players including defending champion K J Choi and Bernhard Langer promising a spectacle of thrilling golf.
And the Glen Moray Distillery team is teeing up four days of top flight whisky experiences to match.
Crafted in Elgin since 1897, in the heart of the famous Speyside whisky region, Glen Moray is one
of over 150 working whisky distilleries in Scotland today.
During the Championship the distillery team will be manning the Glen Moray Whisky Bar and serving up a menu of refreshing whisky highballs, drams and VIP tastings.
A GUIDE TO WHISKY TASTING WITH IAIN ALLAN, GLOBAL BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR GLEN MORAY
In my book, there’s no right or wrong way to drink single malt whisky. But if you want to appreciate and decode some of its characteristics, a few simple tips can help.
You don’t need fancy glassware, but a tulip shaped glass retains whisky’s aromas to enhance your tasting experience.
Colour is a good clue. Light gold is likely to be a younger whisky matured in a bourbon cask. Darker copper indicates an older dram aged in sherry.
When swirled in the glass, whisky forms what we call ‘legs’ or ‘tears’. The longer these cling to the glass, the stronger and older your whisky is likely to be.
Smell your whisky and give it time to reveal its aromas. Read the distiller’s tasting notes, but don’t worry if you can’t pick these out. Everybody has a different sense of smell!
Take your time to enjoy the changing tastes from first sip to ‘finish’, and add a few drops of water if you like to open up the spirit.
And remember, tasting whisky is not a test. It’s a pleasure, so do it your way. Cheers!
‘Cocktail hour’ will be a highlight of the day, with rounds of Glen Moray ‘Oak Fashioneds’ – a special version of the classic Old Fashioned cocktail created in tribute to Sunningdale’s iconic oak tree –being served.
Over at the 13th hole you’ll find the Glen Moray Chipping Challenge: a fun test of golfing prowess where guests must try to land a ball in some of the Distillery’s whisky barrels (trickier than it sounds!)
EXPLORING SINGLE MALT WHISKY WITH GLEN MORAY’S IAIN ALLAN
Leading the team is Global Brand Ambassador Iain Allan: one of the whisky industry’s most popular and enthusiastic champions.
For Iain, whisky is all about keeping it simple. And remembering that single malts are for sharing, enjoying and drinking whichever way you choose, whether that’s as a simple dram, with a splash of water, a cube of ice, or mixed into a cocktail.
‘Whisky is a hugely fun and sociable drink for many different occasions. The common thread is enjoyment, so I always tell people to relax, forget about the rules and start tasting!
‘Our Classic whisky is the perfect, top quality Speyside dram, especially for anyone who is just getting started with single malts. And as a Speyside whisky, its light, fruity sweetness is very moreish and easy to drink.
‘Our Distillery is also famed for cask exploration. From the sherry, port and wine finishes of our Explorer Range to Glen Moray Twisted Vine which is matured in ex-Cognac casks, there’s a world of flavour to explore. Our Warehouse 1 Range goes even further, with whisky that has spent time in
casks such as Sauternes, Oloroso, Manzanilla and –new for 2025 – Tequila!
‘Something magical also happens to whisky when it’s left in a cask longer than the required three years, and there will be a few of our aged single malts, (from 12 up to 21 years old), on our Senior Open Championship menu.

New Warhol exhibition at Lightbox Gallery
An ARTIST ROOMS Partnership Exhibition with Tate and National Galleries of Scotland
Floor one gallery: Saturday 19 July - Sunday 2 November 2025
Floor two gallery: Saturday 26 July - Sunday 2 November 2025
This summer, Lightbox Gallery presents an exhibition featuring major works by Pop Art icon Andy Warhol, in partnership with Tate and National Galleries of Scotland. Significantly, it will be the first time that many of these works have been shown in Surrey.
This solo exhibition, showcasing around 100 works by the internationally renowned American artist, spans two floors and features some of Warhol’s most significant artworks. The exhibition is drawn from ARTIST ROOMS, a national touring collection jointly owned by Tate and National Galleries of Scotland.
The exhibition offers a comprehensive exploration of Warhol’s artistic evolution and remarkable achievements in the context of post-war America through an array of paintings, screenprints, drawings and photographs.
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) created some of the most iconic images of the twentieth century,
“The exhibition offers a comprehensive exploration of Warhol’s artistic evolutions”
securing his place as one of the most influential artists in history. As a prominent figure in the Pop Art movement, Warhol was deeply fascinated by the allure of fame, popular culture, consumerism, and mass production. His artistic prowess extended across various visual media whilst challenging preconceived notions about fine art. In doing so he blurred the lines between art and popular culture.
The first-floor gallery will display the vibrant impact of Warhol’s super-sized works, while the second-floor gallery provides an intimate look at rarely displayed drawings and photographs, offering a deeper insight into his artistic process.
Andy Warhol also explores the artist’s confrontation with his own mortality following his near-fatal shooting in 1968. This exhibition highlights works that incorporate symbols of Warhol’s fixation on death, including guns, skulls, and war themes. Using Polaroid and 35mm cameras, Warhol documented the fleeting world around him, capturing candid self-portraits as well as images of friends and celebrities, offering a personal insight into his life as he sought to preserve moments and people in defiance of time’s passage.
“We are delighted to continue our commitment
to making extraordinary art accessible to our audiences”, says Sarah Brown, Director at Lightbox Gallery. “We have a proud tradition of bringing world-class art to Surrey, from our 2011 British Pop Art exhibition to Warhol and the World of Pop Art in 2015. A decade after our last Warhol show, we are thrilled to welcome his work back to the gallery, reaffirming his enduring influence on contemporary culture. Warhol’s work remains as vibrant and thought-provoking as ever, and this exhibition offers a fresh opportunity to engage with one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century.”
From early studies in the 1940s to his work with leading magazines and major brands in the 1950s, this exhibition explores how Warhol successfully combined commercial illustration with fine art. The evolution of his signature style through the 1960s and 1970s is reflected in his obsession with famous icons, advertising and media culture. The exhibition features Warhol’s iconic 1967 screenprint portraits of Marilyn Monroe, alongside striking posters of Elizabeth Taylor, The Beatles and many more. Beyond his role as an observer of celebrity culture, Warhol also recognised the significance of fellow artists and photographers in the art world, as seen in his important portrait paintings of Gilbert & George (1975), Joseph Beuys (1980), and Robert Mapplethorpe (1983).
Visit the exhibition without the requirement of a Day Pass with the ‘Pay What You Wish’ initiative. Every Wednesday morning, 10.30am–12.30pm. Available to all - no minimum donation.

When two icons of the 70s unite to form a unique creation preserving the DNA of each but with an assumed modernity, a new story begins… a bespoke Porsche 911 Targa tribute to 1970s glamour and modern craftsmanship.
Hotel Byblos, part of the family-owned Floirat Signatures, has partnered with Hedonic Machines, the renowned bespoke automotive atelier known for reimagining classic vehicles with modern sophistication. Together, they have created the Byblos B00, a meticulously restored Porsche 911 Targa (1970-1973), bringing together the legacy of the Riviera’s most emblematic hotel with one of the most recognisable sports cars of its era.
The Byblos B00 by Hedonic is a true symbol of refinement. The car features an eye-catching design, a brushed steel roll cage, and a removable roof that offers a unique blend of a coupe and a convertible. Built around the original early-70s Porsche 911 Targa, the B00 respects the essential
DNA of the model: the long bonnet, upright windscreen, and distinctive roll bar remain intact. This foundation has been carefully preserved, both aesthetically and mechanically, forming the basis of a car that feels deeply rooted in its heritage. The bodywork is finished in Porsche’s period-correct Metallic Nachtblau, with brushed aluminium detailing throughout – all hand-finished by specialist metalworkers.
Her interiors are just as spectacular - with a rich palette of materials used to create a unique atmosphere, including full-grain beige leather and engraved aluminium, as well as subtle custom features, developed by master craftsmen. The original analogue instrument cluster has been replaced with a bespoke digital system styled in the colours of Hotel Byblos, merging clarity with contemporary approach. The vehicle’s sound system, discreetly integrated, is a technical reference to Les Caves du Roy, the hotel’s legendary nightclub.
Underneath, the B00’s engine has been rebuilt and converted to fuel injection, offering greater responsiveness and refined torque delivery. The chassis has also been tuned to ensure precise handling, equally suited to Riviera coastal roads or closed-track conditions.
Serge Heitz, founder of Hedonic Machines says ‘We are thrilled to have partnered with Hotel Byblos in the restoration of this Porsche 911 Targa. Hedonic Machines is renowned for its stories of [re]creation, and bringing these two icons from the 1970s together in the form of a one-of-a-kind vehicle showcases this at its finest.’

SCENTED VISIONS: Smell in Art 1850-1915
At Watts Gallery until 9th November, Scented Visions is the first exhibition to explore the iconography and symbolism of scent in nineteenth and early twentieth-century art.
Featuring paintings by, amongst others, Anna Alma-Tadema (18671943), Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale (1872-1945), Sir John Everett Millais (1829-1896), Evelyn de Morgan (1855-1919), Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882), John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) and G F Watts (18171904), the exhibition examines how these artists conveyed scent in their art and how the ideas they held about smells and smelling informed their paintings in intriguing ways.
Thanks to the inclusion of AirParfum technology, these ideas are brought to life for the 21st century visitor through a multi-sensory experience. In partnership with Artphilia and the Spanish fashion and fragrance house Puig, bespoke fragrances have been created by Gregorio Sola, Senior Perfumer and Creative Director at Puig to accompany two paintings in the exhibition: The Blind Girl, 1856 (Birmingham Museums Trust) by John Everett Millais, and A Saint of the Eastern Church, 1867-68 (Birmingham Museums Trust) by Simeon Solomon.
Scented Visions opens with an exploration of the popular image of women smelling flowers.
This motif conveys a range of meanings, from saintly purity to sexual abandon. Central to this section of the exhibition is G F Watts’s muchloved painting of his first wife, Ellen Terry (Choosing), 1864 (National Portrait Gallery), a pioneering example of this theme. In the painting, the actress Ellen Terry is portrayed in the process of choosing between the luscious, showy blooms of the unscented camellia pressed to her face, and the handful of sweet-smelling wild violets clutched to her heart. The painting alludes to the artist’s feelings about the choice (so recently made by Terry at the time of painting) between the temptations of a flamboyant life of vanity on stage and a comparatively innocent and simple life as Watts’s wife and muse.
In the section ‘Scent and Spirituality’, the link between faith and smell is explored. It is here that visitors can experience the two paintings accompanied by three custom-made scents dispersed via Puig’s AirParfum olfactory technology. For A Saint of the Eastern Church, 1867-68 (Birmingham Museums Trust) Puig’s Senior Perfumer and Creative Director Gregorio Sola has developed a scent that invites viewers to enter the imagined church of the saint with the
aroma of smouldering frankincense emitted from the brass censer, myrtle flowers, beeswax candles, polished wooden pews, the coolness of interior stone columns, and even the Saint’s vestments. The myrtle has particularly intriguing symbolism. It has various meanings in different cultures, standing for love, male sexual vigour, nakedness, shame, good deeds and god’s love. A queer artist, Simeon Solomon’s painting perhaps alluded to the sanctity of gay sex at a time when homosexuality, and incense in Anglican churches, was both illegal and taboo.
The exhibition ends with Evelyn de Morgan’s The Cadence of Autumn, 1905 (The De Morgan Foundation), which highlights the changing visual imagery of scent in painting at the turn of the century. A ribbon of smoky blue odour evokes the scent of autumn leaves, swept up by the breeze, both a response to the cultural mood of lament following the Boer War and, painted in De Morgan’s 50th year, her personal reflections on the passing of time and the ‘seasons of life.’
This exhibition has been developed in partnership with The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham, and was originally exhibited there under the title Scent and the Art of the PreRaphaelites. The exhibition at Watts Gallery is an expanded version, further developing themes and subject matter through the addition of seven new painting loans.
Gregorio Sola, Chief Perfumer and Creative Director, Puig, says on the creation of the scents:
“When working on the perfumes for the paintings, you pay attention to the small details. You imagine what Millais or Solomon were feeling with each stroke of their paintbrush, then you
build up the perfume expressing yourself through the ingredients of the fragrance.
Perfume is like a diamond with different sparkling facets, blended and created in a harmonious way to offer you a unique experience, just like the brushstrokes of a painting. Your nose can explore the perfume from one note to another, but all of them are part of the same composition. Like in a symphony, when you are captivated by the melody of one of the instruments – in the perfume you can identify the scent of green apples, grass, or the earthy notes of ditch water arising from within the painting.
Thanks to AirParfum technology, you can smell all of those facets at the same time or get caught in just one of them, like when you are wearing your fragrance on your skin and you can smell all of the richness of the perfume.” wattsgallery.org.uk
A decade of distilling in Surrey
Silent Pool Gin is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a limited release gin,
In 2014 a group of local friends set out to create a gin distillery on the banks of the beautiful Silent Pool in Albury, deep in the Surrey Hills National Landscape.
They converted dilapidated farm buildings into a working distillery with a restored vintage wood-fired steam boiler powering a hand-built copper still.
They sourced local ingredients, including Surrey honey and lavender, and exotic botanicals to create a highly aromatic gin of rare taste and refinement. They named it Silent Pool Gin, after its home. Immediately popular amongst Surrey gin fans, Silent Pool Gin soon acquired a raft of awards and has amassed an enviable reputation across the world.
And, to this day, every single bottle of Silent Pool Gin is distilled and bottled at the distillery in Surrey.
A DECADE OF DISTILLING EXCELLENCE
Silent Pool 10th Anniversary Celebration Edition Gin is a limited-edition tribute to the passion, dedication, and artistry that has defined Silent Pool Gin since its launch ten years ago.
It has been specifically crafted to highlight notes of pear - a nod to the earliest days at the distillery when it produced a pear eau de vie. This distinctive botanical delivers a delicious depth of flavour and aroma. Enjoy with elderflower tonic for a delightful G&T, or in a Martini or French 75. You can find more cocktail inspiration on the Silent Pool Distillers website.
BOOK A GUIDED TOUR OF THE DISTILLERY
Experience first-hand the passion and craftsmanship that go into every drop of gin.
The award-winning 90-minute tour (VisitEngland’s Best Told Story Accolade) takes you through the history of gin making and to the heart of the distillery where you will discover the unique production process, and taste the Silent Pool Gin range.
You can also book a range of gin-based experiences including a Perfect Pairings Experience in collaboration with neighbouring Albury Vineyard.
The distillery shop is open seven days a week and fully stocked with the entire Silent Pool Gin luxury gift range, and the Terrace Bar overlooking the pool is open every weekend in summer during the daytime for delicious gin cocktails.

The Magic of Learning at Aberdour
At Aberdour School, learning is anything but ordinary – our award-winning approach is joyful, innovative and hands-on. Every corner of the school is intentionally designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and make children truly love coming to school each day. Simply put, and as studies show, happy children are more effective learners.
Our pupils don’t just sit and listen; they experience. Whether it’s testing hypotheses in science using real-world tools, designing machines in our award-winning STEM facilities, or bringing history to life through immersive role play, we believe deep learning happens when children are active participants, not passive recipients.
Experiential learning is at the heart of the Aberdour philosophy. That’s why children might be found building bridges to understand physics or programming robots to explore the basics of coding. Through carefully crafted projects and cross-curricular links, we connect ideas to experiences, giving children the “why” as well as the “how”. This approach not only boosts knowledge, but builds resilience, creativity and teamwork – vital skills for life beyond the classroom.
A key part of our success is our exceptional STEM provision, which has received national recognition. Our Robotics Labs, Digital Creativity Centre and Factory are places of innovation, where even our youngest learners are encouraged to explore, experiment and engineer solutions.
From entrepreneurial competitions and sustainability challenges to tech-based problemsolving, our pupils are developing the mindset of future scientists, designers and leaders.
Yet what truly makes Aberdour special is the atmosphere: children feel safe to take risks, inspired to be curious, and proud to share their ideas. They’re supported by passionate teachers who know how to nurture brilliance in every child.
At Aberdour, learning is not a race, a score, or a worksheet – it’s an experience to enjoy. And that joy is something every child carries with them, long after their time at Aberdour.

A Whole New World of Learning at Banstead Prep School
At Banstead Prep School, every child is Free to be Me. That simple but powerful belief sits at the heart of everything we do - from our inspiring curriculum to the moments of magic that happen outside the classroom.
This summer, one of those moments lit up our stage as Year 5 and Year 6 pupils wowed audiences with a spectacular production of Aladdin Junior. It was everything a school show should be, full of laughter, joy, teamwork and talent. From the first note to the final curtain, our pupils lit up the hall with their energy, confidence and sheer love of performing.
Before the evening performances, the younger children in Nursery to Year 4 were treated to an exclusive first look. Their faces lit up and spontaneous “wow!”s rang out across the hall as the sparkling Cave of Wonders appeared on stage. It was a magical moment, and a reminder of how these experiences inspire right across the school.
“A true celebration of talent, hard work and togetherness… a perfect dose of heartwarming feelgood fun.”
The show itself was a triumph. Pupils delivered lines with clarity and charm, sang their hearts out, and danced with confidence and flair. The Deputy Mayor, who attended one performance, summed it up perfectly:
“A true celebration of talent, hard work and togetherness… a perfect dose of heartwarming feel-good fun.”
Drama is a key part of life at Banstead Prep. From Reception through to Year 6, pupils are taught by a specialist drama teacher in our wellequipped studio. Our curriculum develops public speaking, listening and performance skills, and most importantly, self-confidence. We know these are the skills that last a lifetime, whatever path our children go on to take.
As a school, our vision is to challenge, develop and nurture every child in an environment where they’re free to express themselves and reach for
the stars. Yes, we have high academic expectations, but we go above and beyond in every area. Our exceptional facilities, passionate staff and wideranging curriculum offer children that little bit more.
We want Banstead Prep children to be curious, courageous and resilient—to try something new, to embrace challenges, and to have fun doing it. Whether that’s in a lab, on the sports field or under the stage lights, we’re here to help them grow into the best version of themselves.
Because when children feel free to be who they are, there’s no limit to where they’ll go.

PERFECT PRINTS
The trending prints to wear instead of florals this summer
weather, but gingham can walk a fine line between being classic and twee. The trick is knowing where that line is.
“Gingham is such a timeless summer staple,” says fashion designer and podcaster Amanda Wakeley OBE, “but to keep it chic rather than childlike is pretty tough.
“Silhouettes need to be sleeker and stay away from a plethora of ruffles.” She recommends a streamlined top, balanced with grown-up accessories that elevate rather than embellish.
THE MOST FLATTERING PRINTS
The question of what is ‘flattering’ often crops up when it comes to prints.
While you should wear whichever print you feel best in, some can work better than others.
“Paisleys tend to flatter all shapes,” says Wakeley, “I’d steer clear of overly large, bold prints if you’re feeling body-conscious.
“Smaller-scale prints can create movement and elongation.”
From the bayadere stripe to Seventies print-clashing – here are the patterns to wear instead of florals this season. By Laura Owen
By now, florals are practically synonymous with summer dressing.
But like The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly once said, florals aren’t exactly ‘groundbreaking’.
If you’re sick of wearing plain white or ditsy florals and want something less predictable –gingham, polka dots and unusual stripes are big patterns to sport this summer.
But what’s the best way to style them? British designers share their secrets on how you can revive retro prints and wear them well.
GINGHAM
This Fifties-inspired classic always returns in warm
Softer fabrics can definitely help shift the tone when it comes to gingham, as Aspiga’s founder Lucy Macnamara notes, “gingham can feel nostalgic, but the key to keeping it grown-up is all in the silhouette and styling. Look for organic cotton or linen blends in tailored shapes – shirt dresses, wrap blouses, wide-leg trousers.”
RETRO VINTAGE
Nostalgic prints are a tricky one – as they can either feel cool and timeless or totally outdated. While the Eighties has made a comeback this year, the Mario Buatta-inspired chintz hasn’t quite reentered fashion.
This season the runway has taken inspiration from the Seventies and Eighties rock scene, with animal prints in the form of snake, tiger and cow dominating collections.
“Personally, I love a striking animal print or bold retro,” says Wakeley.
“I have a soft spot for Seventies-inspired motifs – they remind me of my travels in Kenya and
Macnamara agrees, saying that “they draw the eye without overwhelming the frame. Placement is also important –prints concentrated at the hem or sleeve can be really flattering.”
RIVER ISLAND WHITE SLEEVELESS POLKA DOT MESH TOP, £26
ZARA GINGHAM CHECK TOP, £25.99.
“Animal print is remarkably easy to throw on and look put together”
India,” says Macnamara.
Worn as a statement piece pared with monochromes in either red, white or butter yellow, animal print is remarkably easy to throw on and look put together.
POLKA DOTS
Returning this year as a firm favourite is the polka dot. Loved by the Princess of Wales, last year this playful print dominated the high street with Pretty Woman-inspired mocha dresses.
Once reserved purely for the Sloane ranger, the polka dot has been shaking off its preppy reputation and emerging with more fashion flair, cropping up on the runways of Valentino and Moschino in Eighties-inspired cocktail dresses and Mickey Mouse-sized dots on powershouldered blazers.
“I adore them in monochrome palettes,” says Wakeley, who favours a dark navy or ivory as a base, “in either medium-sized or small dots is really sophisticated.
“[They] work particularly well printed on chiffons and lightweight fabrics which can be cut with volume and movement which adds an element of romance.”
Macnamara is drawn to understated tones too, “to keep them elegant, I prefer a smaller, scattered dot on a neutral background like cream, navy or soft chocolate,” she says. “A silk blouse or wrap dress in a mini-dot print can feel playful without being overpowering.”
If you’re looking for something more daring, the experts suggest picking fabric or colour when it comes to this print – not both – to avoid looking too gaudy.
BAYADERE AND ORGANIC STRIPES
Stripes never really go away, but this summer, they’ve loosened up.
“This season, there is a layering of different
NOBODY’S
scales of stripes and a use of more irregular stripes,” says Wakeley.
“There’s a wonderful androgyny about wearing stripes – they’re striking, eye-catching, but timeless.”
While the Nineties bayadere stripe is making a comeback, “We’re also seeing more relaxed, irregular hand-drawn stripes which I love for a more artisanal, effortless feel,” says Macnamara.
“The key is to go for colours that lift your skin tone and keep the rest of your look clean and simple.”
HOW TO PRINT CLASH
The resurgence of Seventiesstyle print clashing can be very cool, but definitely requires a certain level of conviction.
“This is a ‘more is more’ trend,” says Wakeley. “There are no rules – so have fun and just go for it.”
But if you want a slightly more strategic approach, Macnamara says “the trick is to keep the colour palette consistent.
“Soft terracotta, blush, sand […] play with scale – pair a bold, larger print with a finer, more delicate one.”
For the uninitiated, she suggests starting small: “A printed blouse with a patterned scarf or headband can be a subtle way in.”

UK First: The Royal Marsden Private Care treats multiple myeloma patients with CAR-T cell therapy
The Royal Marsden Private Care is the first to treat multiple myeloma patients with CAR-T cell therapy, outside of clinical trials. This innovative new treatment offers hope for people living with this incurable, but treatable, blood cancer.
Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells, a type of white blood cell responsible for fighting infection by producing antibodies. In myeloma, abnormal plasma cells produce ineffective antibodies, weakening the immune system and increasing vulnerability to infections. While this cancer cannot currently be cured, treatments can effectively control symptoms, extend remission periods, and improve patients’ quality of life.
“This personalised treatment is generally offered when other therapies have failed or are no longer effective. Clinical trial results have shown that CAR-T cell therapy can achieve better longterm responses than existing treatment options, offering renewed hope for patients with relapsed or difficult to treat myeloma,” said Dr Emma Nicholson, Consultant Haematologist at The Royal Marsden.
CAR-T cell therapy works by modifying a patient’s own T cells to better recognise and destroy cancer cells. The process begins with
“This personalised treatment is generally offered when other therapies have failed or are no longer effective”
collecting T cells from the patient, which are then genetically engineered in a specialised laboratory to produce receptors that target specific proteins on cancer cells. These enhanced T cells are expanded in number and infused back into the patient, where they seek and destroy the cancer cells.
“We are delighted to bring CAR-T cell therapy to our patients. While many myeloma patients respond well to targeted drugs and stem cell transplants initially, relapse is common. The therapy has demonstrated superior long-term outcomes for those who have exhausted other options, giving patients a chance at sustained remission,” said Dr Emma Nicholson, Consultant Haematologist at The Royal Marsden.
“We always strive for excellence for our

patients, and our haematology team has a breadth of experience in treating blood cancers and in cell therapy. We are involved in clinical trials of novel therapies and work collaboratively with other centres to improve access to leading-edge treatments.”
Julian Money-Kyrle, 64, from Wiltshire, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2016, and has received various treatments over the last nine years.
Julian was the first multiple myeloma patient to be treated with CAR-T by The Royal Marsden Private Care.
He said: “With my myeloma progressing rapidly and new lesions developing in my bones, I was running out of treatment options, which is when CAR-T cell therapy was recommended.
CAR-T cell therapy has worked well for other types of blood cancer, and although myeloma is not currently thought to be curable, my understanding is that the therapy can control it for a long time. One month on, my biopsies and scans have already shown no sign of myeloma. It would be great to have a few years without treatment.”
“From the very beginning, the care I received from The Royal Marsden Private Care was exceptional. The staff combined professionalism with genuine kindness, making my treatment much easier.”
The Royal Marsden is rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission and internationally recognised for the impact of its research, delivered in partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research, London. Seeing and treating more than 60,000 NHS and private patients every year - and more private cancer patients than any other UK centre - The Royal Marsden is at the forefront of cancer treatment and care. The Royal Marsden Private Care has been voted Best Hospital by
LaingBuisson multiple times over the last few years.
Patients across London, Surrey and the South East now have access to this groundbreaking CAR-T cell therapy, once only available in limited clinical settings.
The Royal Marsden Private Care operates across three sites - in Chelsea and Cavendish Square in London, and in Sutton, Surrey - making exceptional cancer care more accessible than ever.

GARDEN GIRL
As “allotment chic” has been touted as a latest fashion trend, with highfashion houses like Dior and Hermès having incorporated horticultural features into their runway shows, perfecting your gardening look has never been so pertinent.
Of course, hardy gardeners know that nothing beats wearing the appropriate clothes for comfort, durability and ease of movement, which usually results in an old pair of denim shorts and a T-shirt that predates Tony Blair’s time in office.
But this intertwining of fashion and gardening has stirred up a storm on social media, with influencers showcasing their green thumbs and stylish gardening attire on platforms like TikTok, and even prioritising events like the Chelsea Flower Show over traditional fashion weeks.
So if you’re a style-conscious horticulturist, here’s how to cultivate a great outfit while gardening this summer.
Light in fabric but not in colour “Practicality is key when gardening,” says Cotswold-based gardening and fashion creator Josie Irons, “but there’s nothing wrong with looking and feeling fabulous while you’re tending to your blooms!”
Her go-to is a strappy, lightweight dress, “probably one that’s a few years old and already has a scuff or two on it, but most importantly, one that washes well!”
While light fabrics are essential, anything too delicate should be avoided, she cautions. “You’ll often find me clambering through rose bushes,
so silk is a big no or anything that could pull on thorns.”
White may be a summer favourite, but not in the seed beds. “Even though I love to wear white usually, I’ll avoid lighter colours if I’m sowing seeds or doing any digging,” Irons says.
For something more grounded, she opts for “a pair of olive-coloured linen shorts with an

oversized floral blouse and a giant sun hat while I’m sowing and weeding in the kitchen garden.”
Know your fabrics and fibres
Fabric matters – especially in high summer.
“Polyester is a no-no,” says Irons, “not only from an environmental point of view but also because it’s not breathable; so you’ll be getting seriously toasty and uncomfortable on hot days.”
Instead, she suggests sticking to the classics, “[I suggest] loose-fitting pieces in natural fibres such as cotton or linen.”
What to wear on your feet
Footwear often falls into the ‘functional’ category when it comes to gardening – but that doesn’t mean style always has to suffer.
“I’m always dashing in and out of the house, so something that I can slip on and off easily is essential at this time of year,” says Irons.
And while she loves to be barefoot in the garden – there’s a good alternative if you want some more protection: “The next best thing are my slip-on Vivobarefoot trainers which are my go-to gardening shoes.”
Barefoot shoes are intended to help with posture and foot health while supporting activity and exercise, which makes them ideal for gardening, Irons says.
A lot lies in the accessories
Spending long days in flowerbeds means sun protection is non-negotiable, but there’s no harm in looking good while staying safe.
“Accessories are essential!” insists Irons, “a
billowy blouse over your shoulders offers great protection, while a sun hat and sunglasses will provide comfort and style.”
If you sport your jewellery while doing all odd jobs, there are some pieces you may want to take off.
“I tend to remove any large or detailed rings, or bracelets that get in the way,” says Irons, “but who says you can’t wear your favourite earrings and necklace while gardening?! They won’t get in the way!”
From trug to table
You may not want to head straight from compost to cocktails – but a swift refresh is sometimes all it takes.
“I must say, I tend to do a quick outfit change if I’m transitioning to a lunch or supper with friends; you simply can’t beat that feeling of a fresh shower after you’ve worked hard in the garden for a few hours,” says Irons.
But if you’re pressed for time, “a quick hair brush, touch of lipstick and adding a few statement pieces of jewellery will easily elevate a gardening outfit to one that works for a lovely luncheon!”
Best brands for the garden
Some brands are better than others when it comes to combining practicality and style. For Irons, who started her career in fashion but now runs gardening masterclasses, she reaches for country classics like Schoffel, Boden or Holland Cooper – outfits she shares on her TikTok and YouTube channel.
“My lightweight dresses and linen shorts more often than not are affordable options from H&M,” she says, as it’s crucial not to be precious while pottering about in flowerbeds.
Because as any fashionable gardener will know: the best outfits are less about labels and more about what survives a run-in with a rose bush.

Summer Interior Trends 2025
As summer settles in, it’s not just about holidays and sunshine, it’s about carrying that easy, feel-good energy into everyday life. This season invites us to refresh our spaces with light, warmth, and personal touches that spark joy and surprise. Even the smallest change can shift the mood, bringing a sense of connection and calm. By embracing details that feel meaningful and uplifting, we create interiors that glow with the same laid-back optimism as a golden summer evening, creating spaces that feel alive, comforting, and deeply our own.
AESTHETICS
The 70s Colour Revival
It’s been bubbling away for a while, but this summer is when the interior’s 70s Colour Revival will hit our homes in the most chic, modern way yet. Think mustard yellow, olive green,
aubergine purple and brick red, layered in rich, tactile harmony. It’s not about a single pop of colour, but a full-on palette that nods to discoera nostalgia: record players, soft lighting, and bohemian charm. When woven together, these retro shades don’t just bring warmth, they tell a story. One of freedom, personality, and interiors that feel both lived-in and loved.
Italian Riviera
This summer, channel the charm of the Italian Riviera, whether you’re in Portofino or on your patio. To decoratively embody the essence of the
Desert Sundown
We’re galloping into the dusty sunset this summer as the Desert Sundown aesthetic takes over our living rooms and hearts. Think dusky reds, baked ochres, shadowy oranges and sun-kissed yellows, layered with natural textures like clay, honeyed wood, woven fibres and weathered leather. The look is grounded and soulful, embracing organic shapes and a sense of calm, lived-in ease. It’s a collection of colours and textures that nods to a more elemental, grounded way of living – one that embraces raw beauty and simple pleasures.
Italian Riviera, focus on summoning a light and airy atmosphere through a gentle palette inspired by the sea and sky (and a few splashes of gold or yellow to emulate the sun, for the joy factor). Blend lightly washed pastels like seafoam greens, pale corals, and muted terracotta’s with neutrals, natural materials such as timber, wicker, and linen and crisp white, and complement with understated furniture, to create rooms that are both fresh and enduring.
COLOURS
Cocoa
The natural shade of the moment? It’s dark. It’s edgy. It’s oozing with character. It’s delightfully rich – introducing Cocoa. Deliciously, decadently, darker than its forerunner Mocha Mousse, Cocoa’s chocolatey tones are unbridled and undiluted, drawn straight from the intense, velvety hues of freshly roasted cocoa beans. Cocoa invites calm, grounding your interiors with its enveloping depth. Pair it with pale linens, blonde woods, and bleached textures for contrast and balance. Whether used boldly or as an accent, this indulgent hue creates a cocooning atmosphere that soothes the senses and infuses your home with soulful sophistication.
Asparagus
Asparagus tones are sprouting up this year, filling the home with fresh grassiness as well as a tender side. Asparagus is more vibrant than sage but more placid than forest green, making it refreshing – and flexible. Use it sparingly or boldly: a solo armchair here, a scatter of accents there. Pair with raw woods, woven textures and natural finishes to

Ultramarine
While Luminous Blue has been declared the Colour of 2027 by trend forecasting service WGSN, a few select brands are already ahead of the curve, dousing their designs in the almost glowing ultramarine shade which bursts with electric energy and it radiates confidence and exuberance. Ultramarine shines brightest when it appears as wisely placed bursts of colour injecting moments of ‘wow’ into a room. Opt for subtle accents – a splash here, a decorative piece over there – to make an impression without overwhelming
Elegant Pool Transformations
Inspiration from London Swimming Pool Company
For many homeowners, a swimming pool is the ultimate garden feature - offering a place to relax and adding a touch of luxury. If you’ve moved into a home with a pool that no longer suits your lifestyle, or if your current pool feels oversized and outdated, it may be time for a remodel.
With expert guidance and careful planning, transforming your pool can be smooth and immensely rewarding. Modern techniques and technologies let you create a pool that complements both your garden and your lifestyle, while improving energy efficiency and lowering maintenance.
Rethinking Space and Style
Large pools were once a status symbol, but many homeowners with well-curated gardens now prefer compact, stylish alternatives. Needs evolve - families change, and safety, sustainability, and aesthetics take priority. A smaller pool still delivers impact when thoughtfully designed, and downsizing can free space for an outdoor living area, kitchen, or lush planting.
The Remodel Journey
Your project begins with design. Choose a pool designer/builder with vision, that also has proven experience in both aesthetics and functionality. Together, you will define how you will use the pool,
your design preferences, and how the new look will harmonise with your home and garden. Typically, the existing shell will be modified or removed, and the new pool crafted within the same footprint or slightly adjusted. Equipment is reviewed too - often, well-maintained pumps and filters can be retained. Where upgrades are needed, installing a variable-speed pump or updated filtration system can boost efficiency and reduce running costs.
Smart Features for Modern Living
Downsizing opens the door to advanced features previously impractical for large pools. A countercurrent unit, for example, transforms a compact pool into a functional lap pool, perfect for exercise without sacrificing garden space. LED mood lighting, automated covers, and touch-screen controls can enhance safety, convenience, and ambiance. Blending Passion with Purpose
Gardens are asked to fulfil many a role — extensions of the home and part of the lifestyle, areas for relaxation, play and entertainment or a refuges for wildlife and hotspots for biodiversity.
No wonder that many people are unsure how to combine all those conflicting needs, which is where a garden designer proves invaluable.
For Joanna, founder of Scamells Garden Design, the journey into landscape design began with a deeply personal project: transforming her own home and garden in the scenic Surrey Hills. This experience sparked a passion for garden design, leading to formal qualifications and the launch of her own practice.
Her prior experience in finance, while not directly related to design, has proven to be a significant asset. It underpins a business approach defined by professionalism, clarity, and transparency, ensuring clients are well-informed about both the design process and associated costs from the outset.
At the heart of Scamells Garden Design is always the client and belief that every garden should be as unique as its owner. Whether it’s a space for entertaining, a family and pet -friendly layout, or a peaceful refuge, the designs reflect the individual lifestyles and preferences of the clients. Strong architectural lines often anchor the gardens, softened by naturalistic planting that requires minimal upkeep.
Sustainability is equally at the core of the studio’s ethos. Thoughtful choices – like limiting excessive hard landscaping, opting for durable materials, blending native and non-native plants that support biodiversity, and including water –result in environmentally responsible gardens that don’t sacrifice beauty or function.
Detailed, professional visualisations and plans created during the process give the customer confidence as to how the fished space would look like. Technical documentation that follows makes sure the design is build as envisaged, and the building stage is closely monitored. Finally, the best plant material is chosen and delivered, to complete the garden. And when the hustle and bustle of build is finished Joanna supports the owners as the garden settles and matures.
Scamells Garden Design ensures that client’s vision becomes a reality and the process is effortless and enjoyable.

The Psychology of a Front Door
Your Home’s First Impression, Redefined
Whether bright and bold or subtle and subdued, your front door’s colour makes a powerful statement. It goes far beyond curb appeal, offering a direct clue to the personality of those inside. Every hue tells a story, here’s how to read yours.
GREY
A deep charcoal or anthracite grey door is the colour of modern strength. It creates a powerful and dramatic entrance that feels both secure and seriously stylish. This homeowner has a commanding presence and values security, discipline, and sophisticated design.
BLUE
BLACK
A black front door is the epitome of simple elegance and effortless style. It is the one colour guaranteed never to go out of fashion, providing a timeless anchor for your home’s character. This choice reflects a homeowner who appreciates classic design, sophistication, and understated confidence.
A friendly light blue door is pure optimism in a paint can. It brings a fresh, positive energy to the front of a home and promises a happy, relaxed atmosphere inside. This choice belongs to a homeowner who is sincere, easy-going, and finds joy in the simple things.
PINK
Soft pink is the new neutral for the modern home, offering warmth where grey can feel cool. It’s an unexpectedly sophisticated and chic choice that signals a keen eye for contemporary design. This choice signals a homeowner with a sophisticated eye for design and the confidence to set their own trends.
WHITE
Alongside black, white is a truly timeless choice that offers effortless charm and grace. It provides a clean and versatile accent that complements virtually any colour of brick or stonework. Ultimately, it creates a clean and classic welcome, promising a space of simple elegance and order just beyond the threshold.
YELLOW
A yellow front door is a guaranteed dose of sunshine, even on a cloudy morning. It’s a blast of pure optimism and happiness that radiates a cheerful welcome right from the kerb. This choice belongs to a homeowner with a sunny disposition who loves to share their joy with others.
RED
A red front door makes a bold and powerful statement, immediately creating a feeling of warmth and a hospitable welcome. It’s a colour that commands attention from the street, radiating vibrant energy, passion, and excitement. This choice belongs to a homeowner who is outgoing and optimistic, with a bold character that matches the strength of the colour itself.
GREEN
More than any other colour, green signals growth, ambition, and renewal. It’s a balanced and reassuring choice that suggests new beginnings and a fresh outlook on life. This homeowner is likely generous, focused on personal growth, and always improving their home and themselves.
WHAT TO CONSIDER BEYOND COLOUR
Finding the perfect shade involves more than just your personal taste. The right colour must also harmonise with your home’s unique architecture and the overall character of your street. These final considerations are the key to choosing a shade that both looks good and truly feels right.
Architecture
A colour should always work in harmony with the architectural style of your home, from traditional cottages to minimalist new builds. Look for inspiration in existing features like your brickwork or window frames to find a complementary shade that creates a cohesive look.
Environment
Consider the overall feel of your street and decide if your goal is to seamlessly blend in or to carve out your own unique space. If making a confident statement is your aim, then a bold, vibrant colour is the most direct and impactful way to showcase your home’s personality.
Direction
The very same paint colour can look dramatically different depending on the quality and direction of the natural light it receives. A north-facing door in cool, indirect light will make a shade appear darker, while a south-facing door in bright sun can make it seem much lighter and more intense. tikkurila.co.uk
Victorian Splendour
Porcelain Superstore reimagines classic Victoriana in two new tile collections
Interest in Victorian-inspired interiors is on the rise, according to new research from independent tile retailer Porcelain Superstore.
Using data from Pinterest, Porcelain Superstore found searches for the term ‘modern Victorian interiors’ has increased 30% over the last month.
It comes as Porcelain Superstore launch two new Victorian-inspired floor tile collections for the home and garden.
Introducing Chelsea and Midlake.
Chelsea combines classic Victoriana with a 21stcentury styling.
Featuring a statement chequerboard pattern, these tiles offer the look of luxurious marble but because they are crafted from Italian porcelain, they are resistant to stains, scratches, and moisture, making them as practical as they are striking.
Chelsea is available in six colourways: White, Ivory, Green, Rosa, Red and Nero, and homeowners can mix and match to create the chequerboard of their dreams.
Alternatively, for those who want a ready-made style statement, Porcelain Superstore has created four ‘mixed’ packages, which combine Green, Rosa, Red or Nero tiles with a White for a look that never dates.
Abbas Youssefi, Managing Director of Porcelain Superstore, said: “The Chelsea collection is a real classic.
“It is simple but impactful, channelling timeless Victorian styling with a sprinkle of 21st-century interiors magic to create statement flooring.”
Midlake Chequerboard 2cm is a large format beauty designed for the great outdoors. It offers the same chequerboard pattern as Chelsea but is supersized for dramatic impact.
Abbas said: “Why should the home have all the fun? Midlake Chequerboard will bring statement styling to gardens and patios. It is the ultimate foundation for summer entertaining.”
Like the Chelsea Collection, Midlake is crafted from hardwearing porcelain and requires minimal maintenance to retain its stunning looks.

SUMMER HEATING ADVICE
With the summer months firmly in sight, now is the time to give your heating system some much needed time off.
And for homeowners looking to give their radiators a little TLC during the summer months, the team at UKRadiators.com – the UK’s leading online supplier of radiators – has some great advice.
Rob Nezard, Managing Director of UKRadiators.com, said: “Summer is a great time to really pay your heating system and radiators some care and attention.
“And while it might seem counterintuitive to think about heating during the summer, it can pay dividends by the time the weather starts to cool.”
Maintenance
Now is the time to get your boiler serviced and call in a plumber to fix any lingering issues.
Rob said: “Most people service their boiler when it is damaged, which usually costs them a lot more and leaves them without hot water during the winter.
“Now would be the best time for someone to get their boiler serviced because you can fix any issues before they cause any further damage and before you need it.
“The same goes with plumbing issues. Demand for plumbers soars in winter when people use their radiator for the first time so get in early and get ahead of any potential issues.”
Cleaning

Now would be the best time for someone to get their boiler serviced because you can fix any issues before they cause any further damage and before you need it”
A dusty radiator is an inefficient radiator as the build-up can prevent the effective transfer of heat between the internal fins. And the best way to stop this happening? Give your radiators a good clean.
Rob said: “Giving your radiators a thorough clean to remove any build-up of dust will help homeowners reduce energy and maintenance costs.”
Upgrade
If you have a radiator that is showing signs of age, or wear and tear, don’t wait until winter to buy a new one.
Rob said: “Due to much lower demand during the summer, there are a lot of savings to be had on heating appliances. Most retailers will offer sales as interest generally dips because people stop thinking about heating when it’s hot outside. You could save up to 10% by buying a radiator in July compared to if you buy the same radiator in December. This would equate to savings of up to £270 as the average three-bedroom/one-bathroom house will have nine radiators.”
UKRadiators.com has a wide range of radiators to suit all styles of properties, from traditional to the contemporary, as well as dual fuel options and towel rails.

WHERE HOME, NATURE AND KITCHEN DESIGN INTERTWINE
The Walled Garden Kitchen by Extreme Design
Tucked behind the walls of a historic garden, the Walled Garden House is a contemporary family home by Clayland Architects where nature and architecture intertwine. At the heart of the home, Extreme Design created a bespoke kitchen that supports modern family life while reflecting the building’s character and surroundings with exceptional attention to detail.
Working closely with the architect and homeowners, Extreme Design ensured the kitchen wasn’t simply placed within the space. Instead, it was designed as an integral part of the architecture. Taking cues from the home’s striking features, including a green living wall, copper cladding and ivy-wrapped stone columns, the kitchen celebrates the home’s unique garden setting.
In a deep, undulating timber finish, the kitchen cabinetry echoes the textures of the surrounding forested landscape. On the island, an aged textured copper panel and copper surfaces mirror the property’s exterior. These subtle, layered references to the architecture and garden lend the kitchen a sense of belonging. The kitchen is elegant, cohesive, and deeply personal.
A large, u-shaped island at the centre anchors the space, designed as a gathering point for family and guests. It’s a place for preparing family meals,
hosting friends, or enjoying a quiet moment with a garden view. A dedicated bar, discreetly housed within a double pantry, is perfect for entertaining without interrupting the flow of everyday life.
What sets Extreme Design apart is the studio’s commitment to creating completely custom and client-led kitchens. This approach isn’t about onesize-fits-all; it’s about crafting a space that works for you, your family, and how you live. Whether it’s a new-build or a renovation, Extreme Design brings a level of design detail and personalisation that creates kitchens not just for cooking, but for living well and living beautifully too.
For those looking for a deeper level of personalisation, this is kitchen design without limits, crafted entirely around you.

minotticucine by asso group
“Their flagship showroom is located in central London and showcases each minotticucine collection in a minimalist setting, curated by a talented team of designers who embrace minotticucine by assogroup’s vision of “visual silence.”
minotticucine’s philosophy is to create calm through a rigorous process of subtracting the superfluous. Purity of form is the result of this process, where each kitchen element is aesthetically simplified. Conventional distractions—handles, plinths, appliances - are reduced to a visual minimum.
Monolithic, monochromatic, and mono-material sculptural objects bring unity to the spaces they inhabit, through material expression and the language of minimalism.
Their manifesto: inner calm - where the space that remains is just as important as the space that is filled, allowing each project to speak for itself.
The use of natural materials such as stone, wood, bronze, gold, copper, and brass leads us to study every project down to the finest detail, with the aim of enhancing each element in the best possible way and allowing it to integrate seamlessly into its intended environment.
Monochrome is a core principle of minotticucine, where the true value of the heart of
the home is entrusted to the people who live it. It is the people who bring colour to the home - while the kitchen and furnishings represent the structural hardware of the space.
Another deeply meaningful aspect of minotticucine’s philosophy is the mono-material approach - a celebration of absolute purity, where each project becomes a timeless, philosophical creation. Shaped from natural materials born of Mother Nature, these pieces are designed to transcend time and endure eternally.
Within the showroom, you can experience firsthand the Terra model in the fused bronze finish - an extraordinary design piece created by Claudio Silvestrin in 2004 - as well as their kitchens crafted entirely from stone.
minotticucine columns are made using a special technology that incorporates stone even within their internal structure, despite it remaining invisible to the eye”
The team will be at your disposal to develop the project that best expresses your personal vision through the minotticucine approach”.

GARDEN DESIGN & PLANTING SPECIALISTS
Laurel Hill Gardens is an award-winning garden design studio based in the Surrey Hills, offering consultation, design services, and advice on all styles of gardens.
Paula Holland Founder of Laurel Hill Gardens trained at Merrist Wood, gaining her certification with distinction. She was soon designing a large Sensory Garden at Hampton Court for the RNIB. Two thousand plants, a heatwave and a very slow tap for watering! However, great teamwork and an amazing experience culminated in winning the People’s Choice Award. Paula still regularly works with the landscapers that helped build the garden. Roll forward seven years and she has designed and built gardens of all shapes and sizes – from tiny urban roof terraces to large country gardens and everything in between. She works with several skilled craftsmen to build bespoke oak pergolas and features. Installing sustainable irrigation systems and lighting systems, both of which are often overlooked, to make a garden which is both
manageable and give a wow factor even at night.
Paula says “People often ask me why they should choose Laurel Hill Gardens rather than someone else, and whilst I could wax lyrical on that subject, the truth is that I am plant obsessed! I have spent years studying the subject at the Plant School, so much so I ended up teaching about Plants.
One common misconception is that Garden Design is always about starting from scratch, when half of my work is as much about renovating from an existing framework.
You can completely transform a garden from enhancing the planting and a fresh pair of eyes with a wide base of experience goes a long way. The good news with that, is that the planting always transforms a space rather than having to re-build existing hard landscaping, and is often less expensive than people expect.”
If you would like to talk gardens big or small Paula would love to hear from you 0771 408 8153. @laurelhillgardens laurelhillgardens.co.uk
