A new exhibition at the National Trust’s Quebec House shines a light on the lives of the 18th-century children left in the care of the Westerham branch of the Foundling Hospital.
Although Quebec House is best known as the birthplace of General James Wolfe (1727–59) and its rooms focus on his childhood, military career and his death at the Battle of Quebec, these are parts of the larger story of 18th century British life. A new exhibition developed in collaboration with Coram connects audiences with the stories of other young lives shaped in Georgian-era Westerham. Coram is the UK’s first and longest continuing children’s charity and was established in 1739 by Thomas Coram as the Foundling Hospital in London.

“A new exhibition developed in collaboration with Coram connects audiences with the stories of other young lives shaped in Georgian-era Westerham”
Westerham’s clean air, proximity to the capital and its presence of respected local governors, including Thomas Ellison, owner of Spiers (now Quebec House) and Wellstreet (now Chartwell) led to its selection as a branch hospital location. The Story of the Westerham Foundlings exhibition in the Coach House at Quebec House explores the lives of some of the 469 children who lived at the Foundling Hospital’s Westerham Wellstreet branch between 1760 and 1769.
The exhibition highlights the role of tokens — small objects, written notes or pieces of fabric left by mothers with their children as a means of identification should they ever return to reclaim them. Alongside historic records from Coram’s Foundling Hospital Archive, visitors can view contemporary tokens crafted by local schoolchildren in tribute to the foundlings of the 1760s.
A newly displayed sculpture inside the school room at Quebec House creates another bridge between the stories of past and present. Local artist Sally Eldars crafted ‘I Will Return’ in response to the emotive history of the Westerham foundlings.
Entry to the exhibition is free with normal admission (free to National Trust members). Timed-entry tickets are required to visit Quebec House itself with pre-booking through the website. nationaltrust.org.uk/quebec-house

For more than 40 years, The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle has been a muchloved part of Kent’s cultural calendar, bringing outstanding performances to one of the county’s most beautiful historic settings. Under the artistic direction of Ailsa Molyneux, the festival is entering an exciting new phase, responding to growing demand for live theatre, music and cultural experiences in unique surroundings.

As audiences increasingly seek memorable days and evenings out, The Festival Theatre has expanded beyond its traditional home, adding Chiddingstone Castle, St Peter’s Church and Penshurst Place to its programme, alongside several venues across the Hever Castle estate. The move not only creates new opportunities for audiences but also showcases the rich heritage and beauty of this part of Kent.
The 2026 programme reflects the breadth of Ailsa’s vision. Highlights include world-renowned jazz from Ronnie Scott’s All Stars, family favourite *The Jungle Book*, and the much-loved Last Night of the Hever Proms. New additions include Forest Fest, a silent disco in the woodland at Chiddingstone Castle, and *Mary Queen of Rock*, a new musical already being billed as “the new SIX!”, which takes to the stage at The Two Sisters’ Theatre, the festival’s home at Hever Castle.
One of the festival’s greatest strengths is its

ability to bring people together. Whether it is families introducing children to theatre for the first time, friends gathering for a summer concert, or visitors enjoying a pre-show meal before a performance, live events create a sense of connection that remains one of their enduring attractions.
Many audience members return year after year, creating traditions of their own and contributing to the warm and welcoming atmosphere for which the festival is known.
Alongside theatre and music, The History Festival has become an increasingly important part of the programme. Through talks, workshops and events led by leading historians, authors and speakers, audiences can explore fascinating stories from the past in the very places where history unfolded.
Taking place across Hever Castle and St Peter’s Church, it truly offers “history where it happened”.
“We have centuries of history around us, incredible artists on our stages and wonderful audiences embracing our events. Bringing all three together is truly magical,” says Ailsa.

The summer season runs from now until September with additional events taking place indoors at Hever Castle during December. Tickets are on sale now. For full programme details, visit: www.thefestivaltheatre.org or call the box office on 07379 488477.

Three years and more of positivity have begun in Bromley and will flourish first here during September. As the website bestofffs.uk shows, events including a Dungeons & Dragons Drop-In, a Corporate Social Responsibility Summit, Best Talks, a Curiosity Club and more await.
‘The Best Of, FFS’ is a project devised by the creator of what Orpington’s Member Of Parliament Gareth Bacon calls the “relentlessly positive” Bromley Buzz podcast, Darren Weale. The new and separate Best Of, FFS project is based on the principle that if we “believe the best of things and people, better things can happen.” Feel free to imagine the second ‘F’ is the word Fun, but the better-known meaning applies too.
The Best Of, FFS was announced on 21st April at Down House, a ‘hidden gem’ in Bromley, and formerly the home of the scientist Charles Darwin. The English Heritage property made a different kind of history when it hosted an event for the Bromley Buzz podcast at which the new and shiny Best Of, FFS project was first

publicly aired. It has since been talked about on media including BBC Radio London.
Following two warm up events in July and August, in September varied events will bring people together in Bromley and highlight some of the positive people and organisations in the borough. This will encourage #goodscrolling rather than #doomscrolling. The Best Of, FFS debut in Bromley will then expand to cover all 32 London boroughs in 2027.
You can find out more of what is ahead on the Best Of, FFS website, bestofffs.uk, and via its Instagram and LinkedIn pages.
From the launch on 1st September at Community House, with the Mayor of Bromley, to the closing event on 30th September, optimism will be flourishing in Bromley. If you’d like to offer any help – time, sponsorship, ideas – do message the Best Of, FFS via its Instagram or LinkedIn pages.
Early help has come with sponsorship from Salt and Slate Catering and, for the first event at Bromley Little Theatre, Radfield Home Care.
And one more thing…. There is a Best Of, FFS, playlist started on Spotify. Can you guess the first song?
‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’, by Monty Python.

Abirth certificate feels like a simple document. A record of a moment.
But in the eyes of the law, it is far more than that; and for some families, what’s written on it can become the source of years of uncertainty.
When a father’s name appears on a child’s birth certificate, it confers legal rights and responsibilities towards the child. This is known as parental responsibility. And those rights don’t disappear if a man later discovers he is not the child’s biological father.
Mistakes do happen. A father may have been named in good faith, only for DNA testing years later to tell a different story. In other cases, the truth of paternity was unclear at the time of registration. Whatever the reason, the legal consequences can be significant.
To correct a birth certificate, it must be proven that the recorded information is wrong, typically through a DNA test or a court order. An application is then made to the General Register Office. Importantly, the original entry isn’t deleted; a correction note is added alongside it. If

the proven biological father is to be added, the birth must be re-registered entirely. Where paternity is disputed and both parties cannot agree, either can apply to the family court for a formal declaration: a legal ruling on who is, or is not, the child’s parent. These issues came sharply into focus in the landmark Court of Appeal case Re J, Re M and Re P [2026]. Maria Conesa Gonzalez, Partner and Head of J&P’s Complex Children and Cross-border Disputes team, represents one of the appellants in the Re P case, which confirmed that whilst biology sits at the heart of legal fatherhood, every case must be considered on its own facts, and parental responsibility is not always removed automatically.
At J&P, we understand that behind every case like this is a family facing real and difficult questions. Our team approaches each matter with sensitivity, clarity and a focus on the child’s welfare above all else.
If you have concerns about parentage, parental rights, or any other family law matter, call us on 020 8290 0333 or email info@judge-priestley.co.uk

In the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells, where independent shops still lend character to the High Street, Josephs Jewellers has built its reputation not only on what it sells, but on what it buys. Josephs is a trusted place to bring unwanted or unused jewellery and receive a fair, straightforward valuation.
While jewellers have traditionally been associated with life’s milestones, engagements, anniversaries and celebrations, there is an equally important, more practical role that often goes overlooked.

Businesses that buy from the public provide a vital service, offering individuals a reliable way to unlock the value of items that might otherwise sit unused in drawers or safes.
In this respect, Josephs serves as a bridge between sentiment and practicality, helping customers turn possessions into liquidity with confidence.
Selling personal items can feel uncertain, particularly in a market where prices and processes are not always clear. This is where an established, local business makes a difference. Josephs offers transparency, clear explanations and face-to-face interaction, qualities that online platforms and remote buyers often lack. Customers are not simply completing a transaction; they are engaging in a conversation, guided by experience and professional judgement.

The second-hand jewellery trade has sometimes been burdened by outdated perceptions. In reality, modern businesses in this field operate within strict regulations and place strong emphasis on fairness and accountability. By providing honest valuations and immediate payment, a local jeweller like Josephs reinforces trust within the community, something especially important in a town like Tunbridge Wells, where reputation matters.
There is also a broader significance to buying from the public. Each piece that passes through Josephs represents reuse rather than waste, contributing to a more sustainable, circular economy. Jewellery that might otherwise be forgotten is given a second life, whether through resale or transformation, ensuring that craftsmanship and materials retain their value over time.

Ultimately, businesses like Josephs endure because they offer something simple but essential: certainty. In moments when people choose to sell, whether out of necessity, practicality or change, they need clarity, fairness and discretion. By focusing on these principles, Josephs Jewellers demonstrates how buying from the public is not just a service, but a cornerstone of a resilient and trusted High Street presence. www.josephsjewellers.co.uk

At Breaside, we believe education should open doors and create opportunity.
From Kindergarten age 2½ through to Year 6, our pupils benefit from a rich and ambitious education that builds strong academic foundations alongside confidence, independence and a genuine love of learning.
Academic excellence remains at the heart of the school, but what makes Breaside special is the way achievement is nurtured through individual care and support. With small class sizes and dedicated, high-performing teachers, every child is truly known. This allows us to challenge and support each pupil in the right way, helping them grow not only in knowledge, but in self-belief.
We are incredibly proud that this commitment has once again been recognised through Breaside’s NACE Challenge Award accreditation, awarded for the third time. As the only school in the Bromley borough to hold this accreditation, it reflects the strength of teaching and the culture of challenge and aspiration that runs throughout the school.

“As a dedicated preparatory school, we also place great importance on preparing children for the next stage of their educational journey”
We were also delighted to receive a congratulatory letter from Peter Fortune MP, recognising this significant achievement. His kind words highlighted Breaside’s reputation for the quality of teaching and for stretching pupils’ horizons beyond the curriculum. It was wonderful to see the hard work and dedication of both our staff and pupils acknowledged within the wider community.
As a dedicated preparatory school, we also place great importance on preparing children for the next stage of their educational journey. With consistently strong 11+ outcomes and personalised senior school guidance, we work closely with families to ensure every child progresses to the school best suited to their strengths, interests and ambitions.
Beyond the classroom, learning at Breaside is rich, varied and purposeful. Through initiatives such as the Tycoon Enterprise Project with the Peter Jones Foundation, pupils are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems, collaborate effectively and present their ideas with confidence. Specialist teaching in Art, Science, Music, Languages and Sport sits alongside Forest School and outdoor learning across our two Bromley sites, creating a dynamic school experience that develops resilience, curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
We warmly invite families to visit us at our upcoming Open Mornings on 8 October at Widmore Road and 15 October at Orchard Road, or to arrange a private tour. www.breaside.co.uk

At King’s, we are dedicated to making sure every pupil’s time at school is supported, enriching, and shaped around their personal talents and interests. The 11+ provision at Junior King’s (for pupils aged 3–13) is central to this approach, providing a smooth and thoughtfully planned transition into Senior King’s while maintaining the many benefits of a prep school education. Starting at Junior King’s in Year 7 allows children to enjoy two additional years of prep school learning, where curiosity stays at the heart of education, creativity is encouraged, and opportunities for exploration remain wideranging. Pupils in Years 7 and 8 experience a

broad and stimulating curriculum enhanced by small class sizes, outstanding facilities, and strong pastoral care. Every pupil is recognised as an individual and supported in ways that enable them to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. Through places offered at 11+ give families confidence when planning ahead. Pupils benefit from regular interaction with the senior school through visits, joint events, and lessons taught by Senior King’s staff. This familiarity nurtures a sense of continuity and belonging, so that when they progress to Year 9, the move feels comfortable and positive.
The curriculum is also carefully coordinated across both schools. Our Global Perspectives programme begins in Year 7 and runs through to Year 9, encouraging pupils to think critically, ask questions, and examine global themes - excellent preparation for the demands of GCSEs, A Levels, and life beyond school.
While the 11+ route provides a strong and wellconnected pathway through King’s, we are equally proud of our large and lively 13+ intake. Pupils joining at this stage bring new perspectives, form new friendships, and help keep our community vibrant and diverse.
We would be delighted to welcome you to one of our Open Mornings, which take place throughout the year at both Junior King’s and The King’s School Canterbury. Individual tours can also be arranged by appointment.

– Bringing you updates on the local food & drinks scene –
Introducing the Winemaker’s Pub, a modern interpretation of the classic Kentish local, brought to life by Balfour Winery. It is, at heart, a pub, but one with vineyard credentials and a quiet confidence about what’s in your glass.
Fully integrated with the estate, the bar pours the complete range of Balfour wines, from bright, orchard-fresh whites to elegant, structured reds and the estate’s much-admired English sparkling. This isn’t a token gesture to the family name; it’s the full repertoire, served just a shuttle ride from the vines themselves. Not that it’s only about wine. A carefully kept line-up of beers keeps pint drinkers content, while a thoughtful back bar of spirits caters to those who favour a Negroni, a proper pint, or a bracingly cold G&T. Sometimes, after all, all you need is a very good drink and a packet of crisps.
The food is resolutely ‘pubby’ in the best sense: generous, seasonal, and rooted in British comfort. There’s a classic pub menu built for long lunches and unhurried suppers . Think crisp fish and chips, burgers worth leaning into, and plates that invite a second glass. Pizzas emerge blistered and generous from the oven, ideal for sharing (or not). Puddings are properly nostalgic and unashamedly

comforting. A dedicated children’s menu ensures smaller guests are just as well looked after, and every Sunday there’s a traditional roast with all the trimmings. The sort that turns an afternoon into an occasion.
Upstairs, four boutique bedrooms offer a place to fall into crisp sheets after an evening that ran agreeably away with itself. Each room is quietly stylish, more countryside retreat than over-designed showpiece — somewhere you’ll wake to soft light and the faint sense you’ve made an excellent decision.
Events keep the calendar lively, from relaxed tastings to a monthly themed quiz held on the first Thursday of every month. Occasionally fiercely competitive, always goodhumoured, the prize is a Tour and Tasting voucher at the estate.
Because this isn’t just a pub; it’s part of a wider wine story. Tours, tastings and even lunch at the winery can be woven into your stay, with a shuttle to and from the vineyard (a civilised solution to the thorny issue of who’s driving).
Come for a pint, stay for supper, leave with a case.

The farm is based up on the Greensand Ridge over Underriver and Bitchet Green, so the farm has spectacular views of the natural beauty of Kent.
White Rocks Farm has been owned by the family for the last 60 years, currently 3 generations work on the farm.
The farm is well known for its western riding and breeding quarter horses and arabs but also in that time the passion for rare breeds has increased with the farm now keeping 12 species that feature on the rare breeds survival trust watch list.
The orchard is registered as organic, and the market garden is currently in conversion. The farm does not believe in using chemical fertilizers or pest repellents, so insects and nature are undisturbed.

“The shop also supports other local producers by stocking their products such as cheese, ice cream, porridge and nut oils.”
The farm plants 840 hedging trees each year, reinstating natural corridors for the wildlife as well as managing the woodland by coppicing. The farm uses its own chestnut coppice for making fence posts, furniture and charcoal.
The farm has recently been granted free range status for its poultry.
The animals can be seen grazing the land and woodland so have a mostly natural diet.
Our pigs are award winning at agricultural shows, most recently at The Royal Norfolk Show qualifying two Pigs for The Pig of the year final in Great Yorkshire.
Over the last 9 years the farm has seen a demand for local produced food and the customer base is increasing annually. In 2024, the farm put in a self-service vending machine farm shop. This allows customers to come and purchase our own produce such as apple juice, eggs and meat from our machine 24/7. The shop also supports other local producers by stocking their products such as cheese, ice cream, porridge and nut oils.
The farm shop has seasonal meat in stock throughout the year such as Dexter Beef, Shropshire Down, Dorset Down and Welsh mountain lamb, Oxford Sandy and Black Pork, Golden Guernsey Goat, Bourbon Red Turkeys. Also stocking venison culled from wild deer on the land.
The shop currently does local deliveries between Tonbridge and Sevenoaks.

In an age when mass production often overshadows traditional craftsmanship, the Weald Smokery stands as a shining example of how dedication to quality and heritage can still thrive. Renowned for its expertly smoked fish, meats, and cheeses, the business has earned a reputation that extends far beyond its local roots in the Weald of Kent. Its success is built not only on exceptional products but also on a commitment to preserving traditional methods with pride, passion and care.

“Businesses
The hallmark of the Weald Smokery is its emphasis on authenticity. Rather than relying on shortcuts or artificial flavourings, they are dedicated to artisan smoking techniques that produce the very best products which have consistently won Gold Great Taste Awards. This attention to detail results in a distinctive depth of flavour, appealing to both everyday consumers and discerning foodies. In a competitive food industry, where convenience often takes precedence over craftsmanship, such standards deserve recognition. Last year they won Great Taste two-star awards for their Smoked Salmon (a hotly contested category), Cold Smoked Trout and Smoked Eel and one-star awards for Hot Roast Salmon, Smoked Haddock and Bacon.
Equally important is the Smokery’s contribution to local food culture. By sourcing quality ingredients and maintaining skilled production methods, it supports a tradition of artisan food-making that benefits suppliers, customers, and the wider community alike. Businesses like the Weald Smokery help preserve regional culinary identities while demonstrating that excellence and sustainability can coexist.

The popularity of artisan foods is growing, with more people seeking transparency, provenance, and products that tell a story. The Weald Smokery meets these expectations by offering goods with care, expertise, and respect for tradition. Customers are not simply purchasing smoked salmon or ham; they are investing in a product crafted with patience and skill. However, artisan producers also face significant challenges. Rising production costs, increasing competition from industrial manufacturers, and changing economic conditions make it difficult to maintain premium standards while remaining affordable. Continued support from consumers is therefore essential if businesses like the Weald Smokery are to flourish. Their shop is a foodie’s paradise with speciality cheeses, many other gourmet treats and a café offering a selection of homemade food. Products and wonderful gift boxes and hampers are also available to order online.
They are a family business, providing a bespoke service and work hard to achieve sustainability and a personal touch.

Locksbottom has never been short of places to eat and drink, but every now and then a venue arrives that genuinely raises expectations. The Piglet, the newest addition to the area’s hospitality landscape, looks set to do exactly that. Housed within the historic Ye Olde Whyte Lyon on Farnborough Common, this independent, food-led destination combines the warmth of a traditional country pub with the standards and ambition of a serious restaurant.
Behind The Piglet are Scott and Maria Hunter, the husband-and-wife team whose acclaimed Clapham venue, The Pig’s Head, has earned widespread recognition for its commitment to sustainability, exceptional produce and outstanding hospitality. Their latest venture brings that same ethos to Locksbottom, creating a venue where the food is very much the main event.
Leading the kitchen is Chef partner Alan Irwin, a familiar face throughout the local area and one of Kent’s most respected culinary talents. Known for catering prestigious private events and celebrations across the South East, Irwin has built a reputation for delivering refined, ingredientled cooking that showcases the very best of British produce. His arrival at The Piglet signals a clear intent: this is not simply a pub serving food, but a restaurant-quality dining experience within a relaxed and welcoming setting.

At the heart of The Piglet’s philosophy is an unwavering commitment to provenance. Working closely with regenerative farms and specialist producers, the kitchen sources exceptional ingredients and butchers whole rare-breed animals in-house. This dedication to craftsmanship allows the team to create dishes that are thoughtful, seasonal and packed with flavour while minimising waste and maximising quality. What sets The Piglet apart is its ability to balance sophistication with accessibility. Diners can expect carefully considered menus that celebrate British ingredients through modern techniques and meticulous execution. Every plate reflects the confidence and precision of a professional restaurant kitchen, yet the atmosphere remains relaxed, inviting and unmistakably local.
For Locksbottom residents, The Piglet represents far more than another new opening. It signals the arrival of a destination capable of attracting diners from well beyond the immediate area. With Scott and Maria Hunter’s proven track record and Alan Irwin’s culinary leadership, The Piglet has all the ingredients to become one of Kent’s most exciting new dining destinations.

By the time July arrives, the Great British barbecue is in full swing.
Gardens are alive with the sound of families and friends gathering, the unmistakable aroma of charcoal hangs in the warm evening air, and weekends are planned around good food and even better company. But while the weather may always keep us guessing, one thing remains certain: every memorable barbecue starts with exceptional meat. In Bromley, that means a visit to Carnivore Butchers.

premium steaks, burgers, sausages, ribs and marinated grilling favourites ensures every barbecue is one to remember. Combined with knowledgeable advice and a genuine passion for butchery, it’s little wonder customers return time and again throughout the grilling season.
The popularity of the British barbecue has come a long way. While outdoor cooking has ancient origins, it wasn’t until the post-war decades that barbecues became a familiar feature of British summers, inspired by American outdoor entertaining. What began as a novelty has steadily evolved into one of the nation’s favourite seasonal traditions.
Today’s barbecue is no longer about simply throwing a few sausages onto the grill. It’s about choosing quality ingredients, celebrating local producers and creating an experience that brings people together. From perfectly marbled steaks to expertly seasoned cuts ready for the flames, discerning hosts are looking beyond the supermarket shelves and rediscovering the value of a skilled local butcher.
Carnivore Butchers embodies that modern approach. Every cut reflects a commitment to quality and provenance, while the team’s friendly expertise helps customers choose the ideal selection for every occasion. It’s this combination of outstanding produce and personal service that transforms an ordinary barbecue into an unforgettable summer event.
As July delivers long evenings and another chance to dine outdoors, there’s no better time to embrace one of Britain’s best-loved traditions. Fire up the barbecue, gather your favourite people and let Carnivore Butchers provide the centrepiece for a feast that’s every bit as memorable as the company around it.

Dr Paulina Charlesworth, Private GP, Medical Weight Loss Specialist,
Lifestyle Medicine and Longevity Doctor, Sevenoaks
As a GMC-registered GP with more than 20 years of clinical experience, I have spent much of my career helping patients improve their long-term health, not simply managing illness when it appears.
Over time, I noticed a recurring pattern. Many patients had previously followed weight loss programmes or obtained medication elsewhere yet had never been given the opportunity to explore why they were struggling, what their wider health goals were, or what sustainable success should look like for them. They had received a treatment, but not always truly personalised care.

Weight management is rarely just about food or willpower, it is influenced by genetics, hormones, metabolism, stress, sleep, medical history and medication. Many of my patients are successful, healthconscious professionals who already invest in their wellbeing and track aspects of their health. Even so, they often feel overwhelmed by conflicting information and unsure how to connect the dots.
Excess weight is not passive, it’s metabolically active and associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, joint problems, mood changes and several forms of cancer. We are also beginning to understand more about “inflammaging”: the chronic, low-grade inflammation that modern life can quietly drive. Addressing this, alongside metabolic testing and genetic insights where appropriate, can take treatment far beyond a standard prescription.
A proper medical conversation can change everything, it allows us to look at the whole person: health, lifestyle, hormones, previous experiences, family history, work pressures, travel, sleep,
stress and personal goals. Every patient journey should begin with a comprehensive consultation, not a treatment menu or a sales pitch.
I have now completed more than 2,000 medical weight management consultations and one lesson stands out clearly: there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Treatment plans need to be dynamic, clinically led and designed in partnership with the patient. They must adapt around genetics, metabolism, family life, professional demands, travel and changing health needs.
Where clinically appropriate, I use detailed blood testing, body composition analysis and other assessments, not simply to support weight loss, but to improve overall health, preserve muscle and bone mass, and support long-term wellbeing. My aim is not only to help patients lose weight, but to help them build healthier, stronger and more vibrant lives.
Many people who come to see me have already tried other routes. Some achieved initial success but could not maintain it. Others stalled despite doing everything right or reached a target weight and were then left without ongoing support. What they often share is the sense that something important has been overlooked.
Usually, they are right.
Successful weight management requires more than a prescription or a chatbot. It requires clinical judgement, continuity of care, ongoing support and a plan for the future. Whether a patient chooses medication, microdosing or a more traditional lifestyle-led approach, care should be evidence-based, medically supervised and focused entirely on them.
Effective healthcare should always start with a conversation.

Are you struggling with knee osteoarthritis? There’s a groundbreaking, non-surgical treatment now available at North Downs Hospital that is redefining treatment for patients living with knee pain.
Revolutionary Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis
Knee osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people worldwide. While joint replacement surgery is effective, it is also a major invasive procedure with a lengthy recovery period. But now, there’s an alternative.
Introducing Arthrosamid®
Arthrosamid® is a non-biodegradable injectable polyacrylamide hydrogel (2.5% iPAAG) implant consisting of 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide and 97.5% water. It is administered via a simple, one-step procedure performed under local anaesthesia by a qualified physician, such as an orthopaedic surgeon or rheumatologist1 — ensuring you’re in and out of the clinic the same day. Arthrosamid® is proven to maintain a significant, long-lasting reduction in knee OA pain2,3— even five years post-treatment.2
How does Arthrosamid® work?
Arthrosamid® is the first and only permanent injectable implant that integrates with the knee’s synovial tissue,4 forming a scaffold that softens and increases tissue elasticity. This leads to decreased joint stiffness, reduced pain, and improved knee function.5,6,7

“As a Consultant Knee Surgeon, my duty is to preserve the native joint for as long as possible. Many of the active patients I see are limited not just by knee pain, but by the frustration of losing their independence and active lifestyle. Treatments such as Arthrosamid offer a safe, minimally invasive option to reduce knee pain, improve function, and help delay or even avoid the need for joint replacement for up to 5 years according to the clinical data.”

The longer days often give families the ideal chance to start conversations with older loved ones about future care in a relaxed way. They are also the perfect time to discover the care options around you – from attending a local home’s summer fete to enjoying a respite stay.
That’s why Greensleeves Care, one of the UK’s leading not-for-profit care providers has launched its Get Care Wise summer campaign.
The campaign helps people understand the basics of care in accessible ways, offering practical, impartial advice including a free step-by-step guide to help families make informed decisions with confidence.
At the heart of the campaign is a simple “CARE” prompt designed to help families get to grips with the essentials:
• Clarify the different types of care available
• Agree when and how you’ll take action
• Research your options by visiting homes and asking questions
• Evaluate regularly, recognising that care needs can change over time
One family who understands the value of planning ahead is Leah’s. “As a family we felt we started on the back foot,” Leah recalls about her journey to find a care home for her mother. “My dad was keen to look after Mum at home for as long as he could, so even considering care in the first place was highly emotional.”
Looking back, Leah wishes they had started the conversation sooner. She also relishes how Mum was getting “significantly better care than she was getting from us” at her Greensleeves Care home, and how that gave her the opportunity to “just be a daughter, instead of a daughter and a carer.”

Trial stays for added confidence
For many families, summer respite care can be a gentle first step to experience care home life.
To make that introduction that bit easier, this season selected Greensleeves Care homes in Kent – including Mount Ephraim in Tunbridge Wells and Lavender Fields in Seal – feature offers including three weeks of respite care for the price of two.
This summer, access the free Get Care Wise resources and discover local Greensleeves Care homes at www.greensleeves.org.uk, or speak to Conor Leahy, Family Liaison Manager, for expert advice on 079 4381 9125.

When most people imagine a swimming pool, they picture crystal-clear water on a warm summer’s day. But today, a swimming pool is about so much more than swimming. It’s about creating a space where family and friends come together, where memories are made, and where your garden becomes an extension of your home.
The way we use our outdoor spaces has changed dramatically in recent years. Gardens are no longer simply somewhere to mow the lawn or tend to flower beds – they’ve become places to entertain, relax and escape from the demands of everyday life. A thoughtfully designed swimming pool can become the centrepiece of that transformation.
Whether it’s children spending hours outdoors instead of in front of a screen, hosting friends for a summer barbecue, unwinding after a busy day with an evening swim, or simply enjoying a quiet morning coffee beside the water, a swimming pool
creates a lifestyle that extends far beyond the water itself.
Of course, the pool is only one part of the picture. Features such as elegant paving, carefully planned planting, atmospheric lighting, automatic covers and energy-efficient heating all work together to create a space that is both beautiful and practical. The result is an outdoor environment that can be enjoyed for much more than just a few weeks of sunshine each year.
At XL Pools, we believe every project should be as individual as the family who will enjoy it. From contemporary one-piece pools and bespoke renovations to automatic covers, heating solutions and ongoing maintenance, our aim is to help clients create outdoor spaces that are designed for the way they live.
After all, investing in a swimming pool isn’t simply about adding water to your garden. It’s about creating somewhere you’ll look forward to spending time, somewhere that brings people together and somewhere that you’ll enjoy for many years to come.
Because in reality, a swimming pool isn’t the destination – it’s just the beginning.

For many homeowners, the garden has traditionally been viewed as something to admire from inside the house.
Today, that mindset is changing.
Outdoor spaces are no longer an afterthought— they are becoming an essential extension of the home, designed for entertaining, relaxing and creating lasting memories with family and friends.
At Life Outdoors, we believe exceptional outdoor living begins with understanding how people want to live, not simply what they want to buy. While premium pergolas, bespoke outdoor kitchens and high-performance BBQs form the foundation of many projects, it is the lifestyle they enable that truly matters.
Every property has its own character, and every client has their own vision. Our approach is to listen first, design with purpose and deliver spaces that feel like they have always belonged. Rather than offering a catalogue of products, we create tailored outdoor environments that seamlessly complement both the architecture of the home and the way our clients enjoy spending their time.
As homes continue to evolve, outdoor living has become one of the most valuable investments a homeowner can make. A thoughtfully designed outdoor space enhances not only the appearance

and value of a property but also the quality of everyday life. Whether it’s hosting summer gatherings beneath a beautifully crafted pergola, preparing meals in a fully equipped outdoor kitchen or enjoying a quiet evening outdoors, these spaces encourage us to spend more time together and reconnect with our surroundings. The most successful projects are never defined by luxury alone. They are defined by longevity, craftsmanship and intelligent design. Quality materials, careful planning and expert installation ensure that an outdoor space continues to perform beautifully for years to come.
At Life Outdoors, we see ourselves as more than suppliers and installers. We work with homeowners to create outdoor spaces that bring people together and make everyday life that little bit more special. By combining premium products with a personalised design approach, we create outdoor environments that are made to be enjoyed for years to come.

“Scandinavian design’s golden age truly took flight around the time of the postwar furniture boom, meaning the two styles borrowed characteristics from each other relentlessly”
Ah, Scandinavia, the mere mention of the word conjures imagery of Mads Mikkelsen pedalling down a Copenhagen cycle path on his way to acquire Kardemummabullar at some local bakery.
But when we’re not thinking of the pastries or the pastel coloured buildings, we’re thinking, of course, about the furniture. None can claim to be a Scandi design symbol more than the perfection in paper cord that is Hans Wegner’s CH24 Wishbone chair.
While it is an icon of Northern Europe by one of the old masters of chair making, times and trends change, so how can you adapt one of Denmark’s finest to your own tastes? Time to find out in our style guide below.
Mid-century masterpiece: To call the CH24 a
Mid-Century chair would be about as accurate as you can get. Released at the very midpoint of the 20th century in 1950, its symbiosis with this era of furniture is almost guaranteed. Scandinavian design’s golden age truly took flight around the time of the post-war furniture boom, meaning the two styles borrowed characteristics from each other relentlessly. Hence why both often deploy copious amounts of wood, clean lines and versatility, all qualities that define the star of this article.
To make them both work in your home is to harmonise their defining qualities. Take a hero piece like a large oval dining table and balance its understated splendour with Oak Oiled CH24s, add that signature 1950s flash of brilliance with a statement primary coloured rug, then add in something with a paper shade for the pendant light.

Icons of industry: From a match made in 1950s heaven to perhaps the most unlikely couple in design - they do say opposites attract. In this case, that is incredibly fortunate, because the contrast between the dulcet tones of the industrial world and the soft shades of the Scandi one is so stark that they actually work together rather beautifully. Albeit with a very specific edition of the CH24. We are, of course, talking about the sultry, obsidian hues of the all-black version.

The recipe for this stylistic choice is simple: muted tones, rich textures and bold, straight-edged shapes. Take a dark obsidian dining table to match the accompanying chairs, brighten the space both above and below, firstly with a silvery but sleek rug and then with a moody, maximalist spotlight.
Supplemented Scandi: We’ve arrived; it had to happen eventually. The obvious choice for one of the most recognisable symbols of Danish design, surrounded by other icons from its homeland. Make hygge (Google is your friend for the uninitiated) your priority and set yourself up for a serene Scandi dining experience like no other. Bright wood, and lots of it, should take centre stage. In fact, every surface that is not part of the floor or attached to the ceiling should embrace it. Save warm yet simplistic hues and soft textures for those remaining elements.
Place Oak Soaped CH24s around an equally tranquil table in a similar finish, add an earthtoned rug, and complete the setting with a pastel pendant, perhaps from Louis Pouslen, a true lesson in Scandinavian illumination.
Abstract and Artful: One style that Danish design is rarely associated with is abstract furniture. Peaceful and serene, yes, but typically uniform. Make no mistake, this works massively in its favour
feast your eyes on Carl Hansen’s collection of colourful classics: from Orange to Olive, Hans Wegner’s masterpiece is perfectly placed to go hueto-hue with your boldest statement pieces. Roll out the leopard print carpet, place your colourful chairs around a multi-hued table base, and complete the scene with the exuberant glow of a statement pendant that conveys your own unique style.
Cosy Club: Let’s wrap up this list with the perfect setting for those of us who need a cosy place to close out the day. When it comes to the CH24, it is not just the materials that create a comforting atmosphere, but the shapes and colours too. Rounded curves, smooth, supple lines, all carefully carved in this case from that great conveyor of calm: walnut. A timber that naturally exudes warmth and welcome, while offering an effortlessly easy-on-the-eye aesthetic. So, we know walnut is the way forward, but we are aiming for the pinnacle of home comfort.
Start your setting with the softness of a thick, fluffy rug, then lean into the craftsmanship of wood specialists, use a dark timber like Walnut to consolidate the cosiness. Finally, complete the atmosphere with a soft, glowing set of lamps surrounding the area.

The Director of Badger Bathrooms, Daniel Tanner, joined the company with his father when they first opened their doors back in 1983. “Most of our business arrives from returning customers and recommendation” says Daniel. “I think our customers come to us because we’re a bricks and mortar business. We’re not about trendy fads; we genuinely want clients’ bathrooms to look good and work well for years to come”.
Badger Bathrooms is a family-owned independent bathroom specialist, and they’ve been supplying and installing bathrooms in Kent since 1983. Daniel’s unrivalled product knowledge is particularly valued by property developers and interior designers, who go to Badger Bathrooms for their design and supply service. Daniel works with clients to create bathroom plans that meet the needs of the brief and budget.
The company was recently asked to produce a series of bathroom designs for a large plot of luxury new homes in Kent, where they developed the architect plans into more detailed bathroom designs and produced a specification to suit the budget. Layout solutions were considered to suit the lifestyle needs of the end client. Daniel worked closely with the builder’s interior designer to ensure style cohesion throughout the homes. CAD images brought the designs to life and 2D plans were provided to assist the installers on site. The Badger Bathrooms

It’s a simple statement, but one that says a great deal about the values behind McColloch Roofing. In an industry where trust is everything, honest advice is often just as valuable as quality workmanship.
Choosing a roofing company has never been more important. Unfortunately, the industry has long attracted rogue traders and doorstep scammers who persuade homeowners to pay for unnecessary repairs or poor-quality work. Because most people can’t easily inspect their own roof, they’re placing their trust in the person standing at the front door. That’s why reputation, transparency and professional accreditation matter just as much as technical expertise.
McColloch Roofing is proud to be a member of the Bromley Trading Standards Buy With Confidence scheme, an independent accreditation awarded only to businesses that have been thoroughly vetted and meet high standards of

customer service, honesty and professionalism. It gives homeowners the reassurance that they’re dealing with a company committed to doing the right thing—not simply selling the biggest job.
A roof may not be the most glamorous part of a home, but it is undoubtedly one of the most important. It protects everything beneath it, from the building itself to the people and possessions inside. When genuine problems arise—whether through storm damage, ageing materials or general wear and tear—the quality of the repair or installation can make the difference between a lasting solution and an expensive recurring problem.
McColloch Roofing has built its reputation by combining skilled craftsmanship with a straightforward, customer-first approach. Rather than recommending work that isn’t needed, the team believes in providing honest assessments, clear quotations and practical advice tailored to each property. That commitment to integrity has earned the confidence of homeowners who value trust as highly as technical expertise.
With household budgets under increasing pressure, choosing the right contractor is about more than finding the cheapest quote. It’s about investing in experience, reliability and lasting quality. In a profession where the best work is often the work you never have to think about again, McColloch Roofing proves that honesty remains the strongest foundation of all.

Slender frames enhance the appeal in contemporary settings, mid-century homes, or heritage properties.
What’s new in aluminium?
Recent innovations in design and development have combined to create dramatic new possibilities for your home.
Aluminium is a robust framing material that makes narrow frames possible even over large glazed areas, and its unobtrusive profiles suit contemporary style and complement heritage properties.
And the availability of a wide range of colour finishes including flat finishes in white or neutrals makes it easy to match new doors or windows to existing materials in a scheme.
These new frames offer a dramatic increase in visible area creating much more dramatic openings. And there’s no loss of thermal performance either, as the technical design combined with innovative glazing options, ensures more effective insulation.
Advances in hinging and locking mechanisms also make these new doors more secure than those of the past and a lot easier to use too. As aluminium is endlessly recyclable, the materials used are also more sustainable than some options.

Until now it’s been difficult to find replacement windows for heritage properties, but these thermally efficient aluminium frame designs fit period properties and contemporary homes alike.
They’re ideal replacements for older steel framed windows even in conservation areas. The ArtDeco range offers quality in design that preserves or enhances the character of buildings and their settings in addition to greatly improving thermal efficiency.
Half the thickness of uPVC bi-fold doors, aluminium frames are more appealing visually and increase the ratio of glazed area to frame in multi-frame installations.
The lightness and rigidity of the materials also improves on simplicity of operation even where each panel is of a larger size.
A range of muted colour finishes and exceptional quality hardware makes these slimline bi-fold doors a big improvement to the style and flexibility of your home.
Sliding doors create the most dramatic openings onto gardens and terraces. Two panel layouts, reaching from floor to ceiling (up to 2.7m high and 3m wide), combined with narrow interlocking frames make a massive statement.
These doors do not require a timber outer frame, which improves on design and reduces maintenance. Double or triple tracks allow panels to slide easily open or closed and locking door handles simplify operation further.
