This August, history comes alive in Kent as Anne Boleyn the Musical makes its world premiere in the very place where her remarkable journey began. From 2 – 30 August, audiences will gather in the gardens of Hever Castle – Anne’s very childhood home –for an unforgettable theatrical experience. Produced by Eliane Astor and Simon de Merode for Historalia Productions, this brand new musical brings together a stellar creative team including director Roxana Silbert, choreographer Alistair David, and a stirring score composed by Sam Gevers and recorded by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, with lyrics by Rebecca Night and Sam Kenyon. Emily Lane stars as Anne alongside Mark Goldthorp as Henry VIII, leading a professional cast joined by 35 community performers from across Kent – plus live horses to add to the Tudor spectacle.
Performed in a specially built 1,800-seat outdoor auditorium with Hever Castle itself as the breathtaking backdrop, the production is the UK’s first ever outdoor musical to use binaural sound, courtesy of the Ringham Brothers. Each guest receives a headset that immerses them in every note and whisper, creating a vivid sense of intimacy amidst the grand setting.
The experience begins as soon as the gates open at 6.10pm, allowing visitors time to wander the castle grounds and soak in the beauty of the estate. Premium Platinum ticket holders enjoy exclusive access to the lakeside Italian Loggia with drinks and light bites served in this idyllic location. For a more indulgent evening, guests can add a high-end seasonal two-course dinner with paired wines in the historic Astor Wing (limited to just 50 diners per night). All other visitors are well catered for at the main hospitality tent, offering diverse fast-service dining options curated by event specialist Danny Staples, plus a full bar throughout the evening.
Anne Boleyn the Musical promises to be a captivating fusion of history, drama, and music – an unmissable Kent summer event in a unique setting.

This year marked the third anniversary of ABBA Voyage in London, and to celebrate, ABBA have added a little something to their concert with new tracks including Name of the Game and Money, Money, Money. For nearly 80 years, EFG Flying School at Biggin Hill Airport has been a beacon of aviation heritage in southeast England. Established in 1947 and owned by the Bromley-based Bamrah family since 1991, EFG blends tradition with professional training, offering everything from trial flights to full Private Pilot Licence courses in its fleet of Piper aircraft.
A proud subsidiary of the family-owned Falcon Flying Group, founded in 1977 by Amarjit Singh Bamrah (known to many simply as “Singh”), EFG is part of a wider “Falcon Family.” Now
run with his two sons, Shonu and Anoop, Falcon has grown into a local business providing jobs, training, and opportunities both within the borough and beyond. From flying lessons to aircraft sales, leasing, and maintenance, the Bamrah family takes pride in the lives they have helped shape.
EFG’s ethos is simple yet powerful: “If we look after everyone, that filters down throughout the business.” Their in-house instructor training draws on both civilian and military expertise, ensuring consistent, high standards for every student. The community around EFG is inclusive and close-knit. Former students often speak of a “friendly, helpful club,” where instructors become mentors and friends beyond the cockpit. Many alumni have gone on to become airline captains, flight instructors, and aircraft owners—testament to the school’s role as a career launchpad, especially for those progressing into Falcon Flying Group’s advanced training pathways.
In sum, EFG Flying School offers more than flying lessons—it offers prestige, professionalism, and a sense of belonging. For many, it isn’t just a training ground; it’s a community in the sky. Because at EFG, you’re not just learning to fly— you’re becoming part of the Falcon Family.

Rhino Boulder is a state-of-the-art indoor climbing gym located in the heart of Bromley. Since opening our doors in December 2023, we’ve been on a mission to make climbing accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender or previous experience.
The popularity of bouldering gyms has surged over the last decade, and it’s easy to see why.
Bouldering offers a full-body workout with a twist, it’s physically engaging and mentally rewarding.
There’s something about solving a climb that feels more like play than exercise, making it a powerful antidote to the monotony of traditional gyms.
But beyond the fitness, it’s the community that sets Rhino Boulder apart. We regularly see strangers become climbing partners, and partners become friends. One of our members, a local engineer who
first visited out of curiosity, now climbs three evenings a week with a group he met on day one — they even went on their first outdoor trip together this summer.
Whether you’re a seasoned climber pushing your limits or just looking for a fun way to stay active for you or your family, Rhino’s space welcomes all. There’s no need for ropes, harnesses or extensive training. Just turn up and climb — it’s that simple. We offer instructed sessions for anyone aged 4 and up, led by nationally qualified instructors in a fun and safe environment. For climbers aged 16+, you can register and climb independently right away. You can do that if you are younger too, as long as you take an adult supervisor with you.
Rhino Boulder is just a five-minute walk from Bromley South station, with quick rail links across Kent and Central London. We’re also conveniently located beneath a large multi-storey car park — so whether you’re coming from Sevenoaks, Orpington or beyond, we’re closer than you might think. Curious? Come and and see what the climbing craze is all about. You might just get hooked.

This summer, the National Trust is bringing the inspiring stories of dreamers and doers to life with the Little People, BIG DREAMS® trail at Chartwell, the former home of Sir Winston Churchill.
In their time, Sir Winston and Clementine Churchill welcomed an extraordinary array of guests, from world leaders and royalty to artists and adventurers. The Little People, BIG DREAMS® trail is especially fitting at Chartwell, where Winston Churchill himself lived a life defined by bold vision and unshakable determination.
In his most iconic speeches, Churchill championed the values of ambition, courage, and perseverance, qualities shared by many of the trail’s featured figures. As children explore the trail, they’ll follow in the footsteps of a leader who believed that the future belongs to those with the courage to dream, and the will to act.
To make the experience even more special, the National Trust enlisted the help of nearby Crockham Hill Primary School. Each class read a shortlist of four books in one of six categories, ranging from activism to science, and voted for their favourites: Martin Luther King Jr, Taylor Swift, Anne Frank, Andy Warhol, David Attenborough, Albert Einstein.
Among the many inspirational figures included in the trail, two stand out not only for their global impact but also for their personal connections to Churchill. Albert Einstein visited Chartwell in 1933, appealing for help to rescue Jewish scientists from Nazi Germany. Queen Elizabeth II had a longstanding relationship with Churchill and famously brought him to tears when making a speech for his retirement.
Vibrant illustrations bring to life 25 inspirational figures across the Little People, BIG DREAMS® trail. As families explore, children are encouraged to have a go at activity stations inspired by the lives of the lead characters. From music, science and storytelling to activism and adventure, there’s someone to inspire every young dreamer.
The trail is £3 including a souvenir lanyard with activity cards and runs to Sunday 7 Sept 2025. Normal admission applies (free for National Trust members and under 5s). Books from the series are available to buy from the National Trust shop. For more information Chartwell visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/chartwell

Did you know that Bromley is involved in a rocket project? The going into space kind? That, also in Bromley, you might drop in on the adventures of Drog the Barbarian, Dinkworth the Bard, Fleabag the Hyaena, and friends? And that Bromley has some added bounce from a new basketball club? Throw in a new film location and studio (check out Location Collective’s website), and you might think we’re talking about somewhere else. But this is indeed Bromley. These and more exciting developments have been covered by the Bromley Buzz podcast, now in its fifth year and close to its 250th episode. There are always exciting things to talk about in Bromley. Look into the histories of Charles Darwin and David Bowie, for example. Hearing about exciting
news has been a problem as much local media has been lost. However, the Bromley Buzz podcast, with its ‘Bromley BuzzUp’ face to face free allsector networking events, and now The Bromelian handbill, a news and events digest that is popping up around the borough, is helping to fix that.
More history is being created with the inception of Opportunity Bromley, an inward investment initiative, which describes Bromley as ‘London’s space to grow!’ If you want to set up a business in Bromley, these are the people to talk with – see opportunitybromley.com.
Back to the Barbarians, Basketball, and Rhino Boulder…. As shared on the podcast by Dungeon Master Conor McGibney, Quest Soul Theatre has been putting on Dungeons & Dragons (D & D) game sessions for intrepid adventurers in the classic game. Participants gather in such places as Theatre 62 in West Wickham for bursts of inspired and friendly escapism and storytelling, driven by dice and imaginations! Bromley Phoenix is the brand-new basketball club, and Rhino Boulder is a climbing gym for people of all ages and abilities. Yes, the words ‘cool’ and ‘Bromley’ can go together.
The Bromley Buzz podcast can be found on popular podcast channels including Spotify, Audible, and Apple. It is sponsored by the Shampan Restaurant Group (with restaurants in Westerham, Bromley, and Welling); London Biggin Hill Airport; and Ian Wood Property. Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is an exciting new venue for Surrey Sculpture Society in 2025. The Society, with over 30 years’ experience of curating large site-specific exhibitions, uses a broad mix of sculpture from its professional and emerging artist members to create its sculpture trails. Here, we speak to Miranda Barber, curator of the current Riverhill exhibition, about how she went about the task of creating the trail.
“My first walk round the gardens took place on a crisp January day. The sun, reflecting on newly fallen snow, highlighted a series of dramatic shapes covered with a blanket of white. How different then, when I returned in spring to conclude the design! Enormous Azaleas had exploded with colour, everything was green, and the roses were starting to come into their multicoloured glory.
Our trails do not have ’themes’ as such, but the different “zones” at Riverhill lent themselves to my choosing sculptures which would fit naturally, even if loosely, with the feel of those areas. Together with that creative (& fun!) element is the fact that each sculpture has its own installation challenges, be it a plinth which needs a completely flat surface or a sculpture which needs a metal stake dug into the ground. These considerations become integral to the design process.
£2,400 Edition of 15
I endeavoured to place each sculpture in its own ’space’ so that the art didn’t feel cluttered. A large and dramatic steel Protea by Nick Baker rises from a bed of wildflowers in the Wild Flower Garden. A pair of doves by Abby Martin, the romance of sculptures such as Artemis (Malcolm West) and Embrace (Marian Ironmonger) fit with the romance of the beautiful Walled Garden. The grassed area of Orchard Sweep is home to larger sculptures - Elizabeth Cooke’s imposing, metal King and Queen and the glass sculpture of Ellie Drake-Lee. As our trail ended in the ‘Jungle’ area, it simply had to comprise elephants, parrots & cheetahs!” With that kind of consideration, no wonder the trail looks quite so magnificent!
£975 Series of 12
Entry to the exhibition is free with your entrance ticket and all sculpture is for sale. Exhibition runs until 28th September (Weds to Sun 10-5) Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is located on Riverhill in Sevenoaks, TN15 ORR. For further information visit: www.riverhillgardens.co.uk

In uncertain times, it’s tempting to delay financial decisions. But with inflation rising again, the UK facing its highest tax burden in decades, and more tax hikes expected in the Autumn Statement, doing nothing could end up costing you more than you think.
Here are five things worth checking, especially if you’ve never spoken to a financial adviser before: 1. Are you missing out on tax allowances?
From ISAs and pension contributions to dividend and capital gains allowances, many of these are use-it-or-lose-it. Missing out could mean paying more tax than you need to.
2. Is your cash working as hard as it could?
Money sitting in low-interest savings is losing value in real terms. Depending on your situation, investing may help your money keep pace with inflation and grow.
3. Could you be paying less on your mortgage? With rates changing regularly, reviewing your deal when it ends (ideally six months before it ends) could save you money. Don’t assume your lender will offer you the best option.
4. Do you have old pensions sitting idle? Lots of people have pensions from previous jobs they’ve lost track of. Reviewing and possibly consolidating them can give you more control and transparency.

Nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside and just 30 minutes from central London, Cobham Hall is a unique day and boarding school where tradition meets forward-thinking education. Founded in 1962 as an all-girls school, the historic 16th-century manor house has, for over 63 years, nurtured students to become confident, compassionate and capable individuals.
In 2023, Cobham Hall opened its Sixth Form to boys, a move that quickly flourished. Inspired by this success, the School has taken the next natural step - transitioning to full co-
education from September 2025. This evolution reflects Cobham’s commitment to preparing students for a modern world through a rich and inclusive learning environment.
Cobham Hall offers a supportive, family-like community where students feel known and valued. Academic excellence is delivered through a dynamic and personalised curriculum that encourages curiosity, creativity and confidence. A vibrant co-curricular programme of Sport, Arts and Enrichment allows every student to explore their passions, while exceptional pastoral care ensures each individual is supported to thrive both academically and personally. With its inclusive, non-selective ethos, Cobham Hall empowers every young person to go beyond their expectations. Aman, a current Year 13 student, shares “As a boy in this environment, I’ve found that Cobham Hall challenges me to embrace diversity, build lasting friendships and think critically about the world around me. Cobham offers the perfect balance of academic rigour and personal growth.”
Brian, who joined the Lower School as one of the first boys ahead of the full co-ed transition, has already made a lasting impression. He has flourished in the nurturing environment. His mother reflects, “I feel so happy to see my son thriving and enjoying school again. He has only been in Cobham a few weeks, and I have seen such incredible changes. I am in awe!”
Cobham Hall is a home away from home and a safe, inspiring space where young people are known and celebrated as individuals.
Discover the Cobham Hall difference for yourself at our next Open Morning: Saturday 4th October, 9.30am – 12.30pm.
St Dunstan’s College’s Danny Gower has praised the Lionesses’ victory at this year’s Euros saying they have once again captured the hearts of the nation.
Following their win over Spain, St Dunstan’s Assistant Head, Cocurricular, Danny, said: ‘The Lionesses unforgettable victory over Spain to finish off what has been a remarkable run of performances showing tremendous grit and determination, has once again captured the heart of the nation.
‘This group continue to inspire the next generation—not only with their performances, but with their togetherness, collective belief and joy in the game. They’ve shown what’s possible, and the future of the girls game in the UK is such an exciting one.’
Speaking about what it now means for girls’ sport, he added: ‘Girls’ football is now one of the most dynamic and exciting areas of school sport. We’re seeing unprecedented levels of participation, enthusiasm and ambition—and it’s only just beginning. The energy surrounding the women’s game is creating lasting change, and schools are playing a vital role in that transformation.’
Last year, St Dunstan’s College announced a groundbreaking partnership with Chelsea FC to widen sporting access and opportunities to young people in Lewisham. As part of the partnership, St Dunstan’s hosts regular tournaments for young people at its sporting grounds, the Jubilee Grounds, in the heart of Catford. The initiative forms a key part of the College’s ongoing commitment to social impact and inclusion, ensuring more young people have the chance to benefit from high-quality sporting experiences and the values they promote.
‘At St Dunstan’s, we’re proud to be part of this incredible movement. Our partnership with Chelsea gives pupils and our wider community access to expert coaching and clear development pathways,’ says Danny. ‘Hosting regular tournaments for local primary schools that help the next generation of players discover the joy of the game has been a real highlight of the year.’
Danny added: ‘The momentum is real. The opportunities are growing. And with the Lionesses continuing to be such a source of inspiration, we look forward to seeing the impact this performance has on football and girls sport in general in the coming years.’
Speaking at the time, St Dunstan’s Education Group’s CEO, Nick Hewlett said: ‘We are delighted to announce this new partnership with Chelsea FC Foundation. Sport at St Dunstan’s has been on an incredible journey in recent years, and this is the next exciting chapter in our history.
‘We are passionate about our local community, and I am particularly pleased that this new partnership will not only benefit our pupils, but young people across the whole borough. It really does have the potential to
transform football across south-east London.’
Last month, St Dunstan’s College, located in Catford, was pleased to be recognised by the Education Choices Awards for its commitment to Diversity in Sport for a second year running. At St Dunstan’s, sport is a vital part of the broader educational experience, and the College continues to champion a diverse programme that encourages participation, nurtures talent, and fosters a culture of respect and belonging.

This summer, Rosemead Preparatory School and Nursery was delighted to be named as Independent Prep School of the Year at the Tes Schools Awards 2025.
The prestigious awards, often referred to as the Oscars of education, celebrate the most outstanding schools and teachers across the UK’s state and independent sectors, recognising excellence from early years through to secondary education.
The glittering awards ceremony took place on Friday 20 June at the Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London, where Rosemead was honoured alongside other exceptional schools and educators.
The judging panel, made up of leading figures from across the education sector, praised Rosemead for its personalised approach, vibrant community and holistic educational offering.
In February 2023, Rosemead joined the St Dunstan’s Education Group, a move that has helped strengthen the school’s vision and strategic development.
Speaking about the Tes Award, Nick Hewlett, CEO of the Group, said: ‘This is a phenomenal achievement for Rosemead and richly deserved. The school has been on an extraordinary journey, and I pay huge tribute to the entire leadership team who have transformed this school. It has been a joy to welcome Rosemead into the Group.
“The school has been on an extraordinary journey, and I pay huge tribute to the entire leadership team who have transformed this school”
‘The Good Schools Guide was absolutely right to call Rosemead the “one to watch” in south London –and now the Tes Schools Awards have confirmed it.’
This latest recognition builds on a series of recent successes. In the last academic year, Rosemead won two prestigious awards – for Excellence and Innovation in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Awards, and Best EDIB (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging) at the Education Choices Awards 2024. Following the Tes win, Rosemead has also been shortlisted for Independent School of the Year for Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) at Independent Schools of the Year Awards which take place in October.
Rosemead was also one of the first prep schools in the country to receive a significant strength in its most recent ISI inspection.
The inspection, which was carried out in November 2023, praised Rosemead’s academic approach to learning, pastoral care and support and the positive influence of the school’s values, vision, and leadership.
‘A highly customised approach to every pupil’s academic progress is a significant strength of the school,’ the report explained. ‘A customised learning programme in mathematics, English and reasoning caters for pupils in Year 4 and above. This, supported by an extensive enrichment programme and much support for individuals, impacts on all groups of pupils, enabling them to make good and often rapid progress over time.’
Rosemead’s early years’ provision was also praised in the summary findings. ‘Leaders in the early years effectively ensure staff have high expectations of the behaviour and achievement of children,’ the report found. ‘The positive relationships between adults and children in the early years help children settle in quickly and feel safe and happy.’
It added: ‘Children in the early years achieve well from their varied starting points. Adults engage with the children effectively and use appropriate questioning to develop children’s vocabulary and understanding. Children from an early age become confident speakers and develop their reading skills well.’
Alongside the academic excellence, the report praised the ‘positive’ Roots of Rosemead, which are the school’s values system.
‘The curriculum and communication of school values, known as the ‘Roots of Rosemead’ encourage respect and strengthen pupils’ appreciation of the diversity of the school and wider community.
‘The consistent promotion of these values helps develop pupils’ moral understanding.’
“The
glittering awards ceremony took place on Friday 20 June at the Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London”
Prospective families will have the opportunity to meet the leadership team, current staff and students, and learn more about the award-winning education at Rosemead at their upcoming open morning on Saturday 4 October 2025.

Bickley Park School, the leading Bromley based co-educational Prep School, is launching a Pre-School to enhance and strengthen its Early Years provision.
This unique ‘Pre-School’ offer, led by a fully qualified teacher, will provide the same warm and nurturing environment as the Bickley Park Nursery. Play-based learning will meet early academic preparation when its first cohort joins in September 2025. With an in-take of rising 4 year-olds, the Pre-School Early Years Curriculum is taught with engaging and inspiring topics to ease the transition from Nursery into the more formal Reception year, giving children the confidence, independence, and learning foundations that they need to thrive.
The specialist teaching in the Pre-School will focus on a number of areas:
• Qualified Early Years educators will concentrate on pre-reading and writing skills that develop children’s phonological awareness.
• Early mathematical understanding is developed through hands-on, practical learning guided by trained Early Years Maths specialists. Children explore subitising in order to develop number sense and understanding of number composition.
• Specialist language teachers introduce Spanish through songs, games, and immersive activities.
• Music and Art specialists lead Performing and Visual Arts lessons to develop creativity, listening, memory, and expressive confidence. From singing and instrument playing to creative movement and artistic expression children discover the joy of performing and visual arts, a key part of early cognitive and emotional development.
• A ‘Sports for All’ philosophy ensures that Games, Gymnastics and Movement take place on a weekly basis. Additionally, Forest School specialists lead regular sessions in a fully kittedout onsite Forest School area.
“Parents seeking more focused preparation, as the perfect stepping stone between Nursery and Reception, now have this new enhanced offer in our Pre-School” says Tom Quilter, Head at Bickley Park School.
“Many families feel that the jump from Nursery to Reception can be quite significant so our Pre-School will fill that gap, fostering emotional readiness, curiosity, as well as pre-literacy, numeracy and other subject specialist skills in a way that’s fun, gentle, and developmentally appropriate.
“This is an exciting time for our Early Years provision so do come and visit, we’d love to meet you.”
Located at 14 Page Heath Lane in fantastic, sustainably built, free flow classrooms Bickley Park Pre School is holding a Saturday Stay & Play on 20th September. Visit www.bickleyparkschool.co.uk/ admissions/visit-us to book.

At King’s, we are committed to ensuring every pupil’s school journey is well-supported, engaging, and tailored to their individual strengths and interests. The 11+ provision at Junior King’s (for pupils aged 3-13) plays a key role in this, offering a smooth and carefully structured transition into Senior King’s while preserving the many advantages of a prep school education.
Joining Junior King’s in Year 7 gives children the chance to benefit from two more years of prep school learning, where curiosity remains central, creativity is celebrated, and the freedom to explore is preserved. Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoy a broad and exciting curriculum supported by small class sizes, excellent facilities, and a strong pastoral
system. Each pupil is known as an individual and guided in a way that helps them thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Through places offered at 11+ allow families to plan with confidence. Pupils benefit from regular contact with the senior school through visits, shared events, and lessons delivered by Senior King’s staff. This familiarity helps build a sense of continuity and belonging, so that by the time they move on to Year 9, the transition feels natural and positive.
The curriculum, too, is aligned across both schools. Our Global Perspectives programme begins in Year 7 and continues through to Year 9, encouraging pupils to think critically, ask questions, and explore global themes - valuable preparation for the challenges of GCSEs, A Levels, and life beyond school.
While the 11+ pathway offers a strong and connected route through King’s, we are equally proud of our large and vibrant 13+ intake. New joiners at this stage bring fresh ideas, new friendships, and help ensure our community remains dynamic and diverse.
We would be delighted to welcome you to join us for one of our Open Mornings, held throughout the year at both Junior King’s and The King’s School Canterbury. Individual tours are also available by appointment.

Established in 1984, RIC is a place for individuals and a successfully distinctive alternative to traditional schools.
ARochester Independent College education is grounded in our mission to support students to find their own direction and help them open doors to great universities. We focus on the highest levels of academic success while retaining a creative buzz. RIC is a small school with a personalised approach that has a huge impact on student achievement and self-esteem. Atmospherically relaxed, there’s an emphasis on exam success without unnecessary pressure. It’s a natural stepping-stone between school and university.
RIC students, described by The Good Schools Guide as a “strikingly nice bunch,” voice their opinions and think critically, creatively and independently. The average class size is 8. The mutual respect between teachers and students is palpable. They leave us not only with results that exceed expectations but with empathy and optimism, fluency of thinking, enthusiasm for the future and confidence about themselves and their education. Our top university destination in the last five years is UAL with 28 placements followed by UCL with 20 placements.
The first thing you’ll notice when you visit RIC is that our home is a one-of-a-kind urban campus at the heart of a designated conservation area. It’s a mustsee for prospective families. The historic site, with listed buildings linked by award winning wildlife gardens, has a uniquely warm sense of place in which our diverse community of 425 students and 100 staff study and work. We are home to 180 weekly and full
boarders who all live on site. Our campus is designed for forging friendships, creating community and opening up educational opportunities rooted in the natural world. It’s the backdrop for an atmosphere that’s a bit more university or liberal arts college than school: small class sizes; first-name terms with teachers; a campus spirit. Nip through one of our passageways and you’ll find quirk and character, green space and quiet corners.
As we celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the College in 2024-5 we’re committed to maintaining focus on what makes the special alchemy of RIC culture work: an aspirational, informal and creative environment, a commonsensical flexibility of approach and a focus on the individual needs of every student who comes to us.
We look forward to showing you our school.
Alistair Brownlow, Principal

Eltham College life is always packed with excitement, and both Junior and Senior school pupils certainly rounded off the summer with plenty of action.
Summer months give the Junior school (ages 7 to 11) the perfect opportunity to make use of the shared 70-acre grounds. Year 3 pupils enjoyed a charming petit déjeuner picnic, placing their breakfast orders in French before playing boules under the morning sun. Sports also profit from shared facilities and expertise: the U11 boys’ hockey team made school history, taking first place in the London Regional finals with a 100% winning record, while U11 girls came third. Talented players in both teams enjoyed the further challenge of training with Year 7 at the Senior school – a key benefit of this family-focused, allthrough independent school.
Similarly, Year 6 students took part in a creative workshop, led by the artist-in-residence of the College’s Gerald Moore Gallery, as part of their seamless transition (without examination) through to the Senior school; Year 6 student Yueci was pivotal to the Senior chess team who, as Kent champions, competed in the English National finals.
The pace of activity and success only picks up in the Senior school. Year 7 teams stole the
show in athletics, the girls winning June’s district championships by thirty points, while just two pipped the boys into second. Eltham girls took all three U12 podium places in the Kent County fencing championships, U15 boys’ cricketers won the London Ingham Cup final, and the U14 skiing team took bronze in the National Indoor Championships; Eltham students also graced national squads in netball, hockey, athletics and swimming.
In drama, summer term brought Treasure Island, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and The Comedy of Errors to the stage, while August takes a combined Eltham and Thomas More production to the Camden Fringe. Four Eltham pupils have secured places in the National Youth Theatre, while two were offered places at the esteemed Rose Bruford College.
Music – at Eltham’s heart – rounded off the term with an outstanding programme of outdoor concerts, from rock and jazz bands to a full symphony orchestra, as well as triple internationalprize-wins for its U14 string quartet.
Though offering a breadth of co-curricular opportunity, Eltham remains focused on the academic results which underpin future choice and success. Last year, 91% of A Level grades were A*/A/B; at GCSE, two-thirds were 8/9, equivalent to A* under the previous system. The school now awaits, with bated breath, 2025 GCSE and A Level results.

KYN’s approach to design is rooted in warmth, dignity, and a sense of belonging. The design team worked closely with interior designer Nina Campbell to challenge conventional perceptions of ‘care’ environments, and create a home filled with warm colours and beautiful patterns with generous gardens.
Every meal conjured by executive chef Tristan Welch of Petrus fame is also approved by clinical nutritionist Eva Humphries MSc to ensure residents receive everything their body needs, all while appealing to their taste buds. Menus change daily to keep things varied just like home. Social spaces are also stocked with tasty, nutritious treats for residents to help themselves to at any time of day.
In early October, you are invited to stroll through the landscaped gardens, sample the richly nutritious meals, and glimpse into the spaces where residents spend time with family and friends.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, that’s as true as it’s ever been. So, with kitchen design, functionality must always measure up to beauty. When we create new kitchens, these are the top 5 non-negotiable “must-haves” for our clients.
1. BORA cooktop
BORA cooktops combine advanced induction cooking with integrated extraction that draws cooking vapours and odours directly from the pan. Ideal for open-plan living, BORA offer sleek, intuitive design, reflected by their near-silent built-in extractor. The generous cooking surface easily accommodates cookware of every size.
2. Pantry cupboard
A well-organised pantry cupboard is a joy to use, every day. All your ingredients are neatly stored in one place: bespoke spice racks, drawers and cupboards keep everything in sight and within reach. The cool shelf is perfect for storing butter and eggs as well as providing workspace for smaller appliances, keeping your main countertops clear and uncluttered.
3. Bespoke utensil drawers
Is there anything in life more satisfying than well-organised kitchen drawers? Okay, maybe there is. But they definitely make life easier!
Bespoke cutlery and utensil dividers, integrated knife blocks, vertical storage for baking trays, Tupperware that’s actually accessible, deep, waistlevel drawers for plates, pots and pans – these are the cornerstones of an organised kitchen.
4. Quooker tap
Instant boiling, hot and cold water from a single tap – yes, it’s true. When combined with pull-out flexible hoses and their range of stylish designs, Quooker taps are becoming a kitchen staple. By adding a Quooker CUBE, their functionality extends to cooled filtered and sparkling water too.
5. Integrated bins
Integrated bins are tidy, hygienic and space-saving. Designed to be concealed within cabinetry, these systems include separate compartments for recycling and waste, making kitchen clean-up effortless and eco-friendly.
Bespoke design for bespoke living
We’ll help you consider every aspect of your kitchen, from your dishwasher right through to the all-important ambient and task lighting that enhances your space.

When approached by a renowned architect for this project, we immediately sensed its uniqueness. The architect presented a stunning design inspired by a previous build in Belgium. Measuring an impressive 20m x 3m, the pool was conceived not just as a swimming facility but as a bold architectural statement.
From the outset, the design demanded innovation. Our challenge was to honour the architect’s vision while ensuring compliance with SPATA regulations. Through numerous collaborative meetings, technical evaluations, and design refinements, we achieved a solution that met all safety and performance standards without compromising the bespoke aesthetic.
The build itself brought significant challenges. Starting in winter under tight deadlines, we faced harsh conditions. Excavation, though completed to specification, was complicated by persistent rain, forcing us to introduce sloped sides. Continuous concaving caused delays, but proactive communication and resilience allowed progress to continue.
The brief called for a sleek, minimalistic focal point that would sit harmoniously within the garden. We worked closely with the client on finishes, exploring mosaics, large-format tiles, and various colours. The final choice—Heritage Carbon, a concrete-look large-format tile—created a seamless surface blending naturally with the landscape. The water’s turquoise shimmer adds an organic, inviting quality.
Pool entry was designed to be elegantly discreet,
featuring a single one-sided step to preserve uninterrupted lap space. Surrounding the pool, we installed Basalto Italiano basalt copings, nearly a metre long and hand-cut to precise tolerances. Their dark tones and soft texture mirror the internal stonework and garden, integrating the pool naturally into its surroundings. These copings enhance both aesthetics and functionality, framing the water with sophistication.
Spanning nearly a year from conception to completion, the project demanded dedication at every stage. Our client’s understanding and appreciation of the meticulous process were invaluable. The final result is a pool that combines architectural elegance with the highest standards of quality, performance, and beauty.
This project stands as a testament to collaboration, patience, and craftsmanship—a bold vision realised with precision and care.

The shapes within our surroundings are key to the atmosphere and ambience of the home. Beyond aesthetic appeal, the contours and forms of furniture influence how we move, interact, and feel within a space. Even the subtlest shapes can enhance functionality, foster social interaction, and impact our mood. Here, we take a closer look at three shapely trends that are bringing a fresh perspective to interior design.
Sofa design has revolved around curves for a while now. A long while. Roundness, bends, arcs... everything’s been smooth. Well, no more – the Softly Angled sofa has entered the building. There’s no need to get your protractors out, just know that the points of these sofas are low key, the joins wide. Loose. Languid. L-shapes have
relaxed, corners are calmer, and forms less rigid. The designs have the feel of casually- carved rock, of being eroded by the elements – a balance of structure and gentleness, high architecture meeting sink-into-me squishiness.
Soft Angled sofas feel like the result of several recent trends in one. Roundness and curves. The organic. Asymmetry. The widening of sofa options. Do they come across as a compromise? Quite the opposite, they’re like the final creation after years of experimenting and testing. Eureka! To live with they’re simple, humble, and gently alluring, fitting into a room easily, working with all other shapes and bringing comfort without fuss or drama.
How to work a Softly Angled sofa? Contrast against its geometry by pairing it with tactile elements like cushions and throws to balance things out, and furnishings that have either clean, straight lines or out-there curves for contrast
“How to work a Softly Angled sofa? Contrast against its geometry by pairing it with tactile elements like cushions”
and visual interest. Keep the surrounding decor minimal to let the sofa’s distinctiveness be the star of the show – make sure to position it somewhere it can be ooh and ahh’d over – and revel in a design rarity; something that’s bold and attentiongrabbing, but never ostentatious.
There’s been a furniture design breakthrough. Quite literally. It’s the table legs – they’ve rebelled. Sick of being resigned to the shadowy underside of the table, many pieces are seeing the leg tops push through the table surface so they can really be involved in dinner and conversation. Along with adding and unusual kind of decoration, and often bringing a different type of material more into the eye line, it makes for a great game of furniture peek-a-boo.
It feels fun. Mischievous. Like it’s breaking some kind of this-belongs-here, this-belongs- here kind of rule, and honestly, we’re in the mood for some more boundary breaking. The look is raw and playful, a wry smirk at convention while also delivering a moment of surprise at the dinner table, and makes the space all the more alive.
A micro trend though it may be, concave forms on interiors objects are captivating for their subtle depth and allure. They beckon the eye with in, creating volume and a play of light and shade, adding both softness and forming a striking edge at the front to balance elegance with strong architectural presence.
Concave forms are a contrast to the outwardly
rounded shapes that have dominated for a while. These curves pull you forward, creating the impression of shelter with their chiselled sense of dimensionality. It’s a design feature that’s classic and instantly recognisable, as well as comforting and unexpectedly dramatic.
When bringing the concave into the home, think about teaming it with flatter surfaces and straight lines to really let those inward undulations pop, and allow the scooped-out elements to serve as focal points. Keep the surrounding palette clean and minimal to highlight their prominent structural character, and ensure the contours stand out without competing with anything else in the room. chaplins.co.uk

Schmidt have a huge number of storage solutions for every wallet
3different types of larder, extra wide/deep and high base units (3D fit), floor to ceiling options, and up to 3 made-to-measure units (from certain ranges) at no extra cost. Larders: The open-shelf cabinet is a good, solid entry level cabinet with adjustable shelves, the Pantry cabinet gives easy access via shelving and door storage, while the Larder cabinet is the ultimate in storage – full extension, individual pull out drawers mean that everything is instantly accessible and visible, with no void necessary above the shelf to lift items out.
Evolution 130: Instead of the normal 5-drawer base unit, Schmidt have raised the height of their standard base unit to 78cm (usually 72cm) which has enabled them to fit an extra drawer into the unit. A 6-drawer format means it is much easier to create a streamlined kitchen as well: 1 deep drawer & 3 shallow; 3 medium; 1 deep, 1 medium and 1 shallow – the options are many, but the horizontal lines will flow in perfect symmetry with other units in the kitchen. The extra height unit also caters for the taller profile of most kitchen users today.
3D Fit: With plinth heights from 7cm to 20cm, Unit heights from 52cm to 91cm, 4 different depths,
and bespoke widths to the nearest millimetre, every single inch of available space in the kitchen can be utilised. Whether you are 5 foot nothing, or 6 foot 7 inches – the height can work for you! Schmidt’s standard 67.5cm base unit is joined by 3 other depths: 35, 62.5 and a jumbo 70cm unit – which can achieve up to 26% more storage, and of course more worktop space as well.

Sales of natural wooden products at French Bedroom have risen by 34%, confirming what tastemakers already know: the unfinished and authentic beauty of Châteaucore is firmly back in style.
As the V&A prepares to unveil the exhibition: ‘Marie Antoinette Style’ this September, French Bedroom celebrates the enduring allure of castles and palaces through the romantic lens of Châteaucore - a revival of French aristocratic elegance that continues to inspire modern interiors. With velvet upholstery, gilded trims, and rococo silhouettes, the collection channels Versailles-level opulence in a way that feels both nostalgic and relevant.
Fittingly, Marie Antoinette remains an icon of this aesthetic, though often misunderstood. The phrase “Let them eat cake”, long misattributed to her, was never uttered by the queen herself but has endured as a symbol of perceived extravagance and detachment. In reality, her legacy is far more nuanced, echoing the same tension that Châteaucore plays with today: a love for refinement and beauty, tempered by a yearning for authenticity.
While modern design embraces clean lines and minimalism, Châteaucore offers its own form of refinement that is rich in detail, emotionally expressive, and entirely curated. Georgia Metcalfe, Founder and Creative Director at French Bedroom, says: “The key is to keep it relaxed, ensuring a good balance of antique, vintage, and new. Fresh bed linen and soft furnishings coupled with vintage accessories is how we are styling Châteaucore.”
Although these styles may seem worlds apart, both share a devotion to craftsmanship, atmosphere, and thoughtful design. In contemporary interiors, an elegant chandelier
such as our La Petite Chambery 6-Arm French Chandelier, or the intricately carved Glorious Gilt Mirror, becomes more than decoration—it becomes a story, a memory, a mood. Châteaucore does not reject the modern. It softens it, adding a sense of beauty that is deeply personal and poetically lived. frenchbedroom.co.uk
Updating windows and doors improves your home, but choosing the right company is what really makes an impact.
The older we get, the more we like to have things just as we’d want. The ultimate expression of that on the domestic front is to do as the Simmonds did, and live in a house that was designed for you. But that was 25 years ago.
‘When the house was built, we did it on a bit of a budget and used lots of reclaimed materials for the floors and fireplaces to create a bit of an Edwardian look that we like. The windows were wooden framed and the doors were wooden too. It all needed a lot of maintenance over the years and to be honest we were getting a bit tired of that.’
Looking for a low maintenance alternative, the Simmonds also wanted their replacement windows and doors to offer better insulation — the old ones had ceased to be draughtproof — and improve the property’s security. ‘It couldn’t have been much worse. The back door might as well have been made of balsa wood and the basic locks were well below the standard our insurers needed to see.’
Product quality is incredible today and it really helps to be able to see it for yourself
Fineline is unusual among suppliers of windows and doors because it has fully fitted out showrooms where you can see and choose from fully installed products rather than samples. ‘The Ipswich showroom people were very professional. They made it easy to choose windows and doors then pick contrasting interior and exterior colours and retro fittings that styled well with the rest of our home.’
At the showroom they help you see the possibilities, but it’s the installation teams that really seal the transformation of your home. ‘The Fineline team was nothing short of incredible. They took less than four days to do the whole job, working efficiently and professionally through awful weather. The finish was really high quality, neat, and accurate, and the whole result gave us a real sense of pride in our home – just like we felt when we first moved in.’
