A Secret Garden for Summer: Inside The Grove’s Vibrant New Walled Garden

Tucked away in the Hertfordshire countryside, just 20 minutes from London, The Grove has long been known for offering more than your typical country house retreat. But this summer, the estate’s Walled Garden has undergone a transformation – and it’s fast becoming one of the season’s most talked-about escapes.

Designed with the carefree spirit of summer in mind, the Walled Garden now feels like a destination in itself. At the centre of it all is

“Designed with the carefree spirit of summer in mind, the Walled Garden now feels like a destination in itself”

Ralph’s Beach, a sun-drenched spot where hotel guests can stretch out on a daybed with a cocktail in hand, cool off in the heated outdoor pool, or book in for a treatment at the open-air Sequoia on the Beach spa area. The daybeds – available in Family, Laid-back and Luxury styles – come with thoughtful touches, like snacks, cocktails and a revitalising face spray, bringing a boutique beach club vibe to the countryside.

Families will appreciate the new shaded play area that has been added so that younger hotel guests can run around and explore safely while adults lounge poolside or enjoy a bite to eat at Ralph’s – a casual spot serving up salads, sandwiches, ice cream and other summery snacks.

The Grove has also partnered once again with Everyman for its open-air cinema experience,

“Skewd, a pop-up restaurant with Anatolian influences, is serving a flavour-packed menu from its corner of the Walled Garden “

Everyman in the Garden. Running from 23 July to 7 September, the programme features everything from family favourites to nostalgic classics and rom-coms. Live pre-film performances add a touch of theatre to the experience, while vibrant installations by artist Yinka Ilori MBE provide a colourful visual backdrop.

For those who enjoy dining with a difference, there’s something new on the evening menu too. Skewd, a pop-up restaurant with Anatolian influences, is serving a flavour-packed menu from its corner of the Walled Garden – think lamb shish, honey-glazed goat’s cheese and mini lahmacun, all cooked over fire. A live DJ plays on Friday and Saturday evenings, adding to the sense of laid-back celebration.

Whether it’s a midweek escape, a weekend with the family, or a romantic overnight stay, the atmosphere at The Grove this summer feels deliberately unhurried and full of personality. It’s stylish without being stuffy, luxurious yet

open to everyone – whether you’re there for a spa treatment, a swim, a cinema night or just an afternoon in the sun.

In a season where we all crave a little more joy and a lot more fresh air, The Grove’s reimagined Walled Garden offers both in generous supply. And being so close to London, it’s the kind of place you can return to again and again.

Two Slices of Paradise: The Maldives with Sun Siyam

In the Maldives, no two islands are ever quite the same, and Sun Siyam’s collection proves it best. Among its jewels are two standouts:

Sun Siyam Iru Fushi in the Noonu Atoll and Sun Siyam Olhuveli in the South Malé Atoll, each offering a distinct take on the ultimate island escape. Together, they showcase the Maldives in all its contrasts: the meditative hush of untouched lagoons and the spirited rhythm of water sports and beachside gatherings. Whether you dream of mornings spent barefoot on deserted sandbanks or afternoons kitesurfing across glittering waters, these two resorts invite you to write your own Maldivian story. Let’s explore each resort for what it does best.

SUN SIYAM IRU FUSHI

Nestled in the heart of the Maldives’ Noonu Atoll, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi offers a sophisticated blend of barefoot luxury and Maldivian charm. The island is a lush, 21-hectare expanse where whitesand beaches meet crystalline waters, and every path seems to lead to a postcard view. Its villas are ranging from romantic overwater sanctuaries to spacious beachfront retreats. The resort’s 8 dining options ensure culinary exploration is as much a part of the journey as the scenery, with highlights including Japanese teppanyaki under the stars and fine dining beside the lagoon.

Iru Fushi is a haven for travellers seeking an immersive yet tranquil escape. Couples can indulge in the award-winning Spa by Thalgo and private dinners on the sandbank, while families will find the Kids’ Club and shallow lagoons ideal for younger explorers. For the active, there’s

world-class diving at nearby reef sites and guided snorkelling to discover vibrant marine life. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, making it equally appealing for honeymooners, multi-generational trips, and travellers who appreciate a slower, more considered pace in paradise.

SUN SIYAM OLHUVELI

Spread across multiple islands in the South Malé Atoll, Sun Siyam Olhuveli is a vivid, more energetic counterpart to Iru Fushi’s calm. Here, overwater villas stretch elegantly into turquoise waters, while beachside suites open onto stretches of sand that invite both relaxation and play. With 13 bars and restaurants, guests can sample everything from fresh Maldivian seafood to Mediterranean-inspired plates, all framed by uninterrupted ocean views.

Olhuveli thrives on variety and activity. It’s particularly well-suited to travellers who enjoy a balance of relaxation and adventure: activities such as sunrise yoga followed by kitesurfing, or dip in the pool (longest in the Maldives) then take a dolphin spotting cruise. The lagoon is a natural playground for paddleboarding, jet skiing, and snorkelling, while two spas offer serene treatments to unwind after the day’s excitement. Families are well-catered for with connecting pavillions and dedicated children’s activities, yet couples will find private dining spots and quiet beaches that feel worlds away.

Whether you’re chasing serene seclusion or vibrant island energy, these sister resorts promise the quintessential Maldivian escape, each with its own distinctive rhythm. trailfinders.com

HERTFORD STUDIOS: A CREATIVE HUB IN THE HEART OF HERTFORDSHIRE

The concept of Hertford Studios emerged from a simple but persistent challenge: finding the right creative space locally. Too often, we found ourselves widening the search radius, eventually settling for London-based studios that came with higher rental costs, time-consuming logistics, and the inevitable frustrations of city access.

It quickly became clear that we weren’t alone in this struggle. Independent photographers, videographers, and brands across Hertfordshire were facing the same barriers. That realisation became the spark for Hertford Studios — our vision of a premium, purpose-built creative space right here in the heart of Hertfordshire.

Today, Hertford Studios provides a welcoming, relaxing, and versatile environment designed for creators of all kinds. At 3,000 sq ft, the space is large enough to accommodate productions of every scale — from intimate portrait sessions to major brand shoots and events. Our white infinity

cove offers the perfect setting for e-commerce and campaign imagery, while our lifestyle areas provide ready-made sets ideal for social media content, lookbooks, or branding shoots.

Beyond the sets, Hertford Studios is designed to make production days seamless. With ground floor drive-in access, on-site parking, and private breakout rooms for meetings, models or client use, everything has been considered to support both creativity and efficiency.

We’re proud that Hertford Studios has become a hub for local photographers, videographers, brands, and content creators. The space is as much about community as it is about production, offering a flexible home for everything from commercial photography and video shoots to workshops, events, and networking evenings.

Whether you’re an independent creative looking for a professional studio to bring your vision to life, or a brand seeking a high-quality alternative to London, Hertford Studios is here to provide the space, support, and atmosphere you need to create stand-out content.

Since its inception in September 1985, The Decorative Fair has led the way in bringing together the world of interior design and antiques. In the sales booklet for the first Fair, talking about the then existing fairs scene, the Organisers stated: “to a certain extent, interior designers have been neglected. There has until now been no specialist setting in which designers can meet dealers... and where their particular needs are understood and catered to.”

The growth in the 1980s of dealers in what are now termed decorative antiques and objects saw the launch of‘ The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair’ (its original name)as a welcome initiative. Exhibitors were positively encouraged to be creative with their stand displays to inspire buyers; textiles were experiencing a boom in interest, with the ‘full’ country house look of swags and tails(plus ruched blinds)at the windows, chintzcovered squashy sofas stuffed with cushions, fabric-draped side tables at its apogee. Designers and decorators embraced the event, as did their clients, who came to shop in their droves.

It seems we have turned almost full circle in

terms of interiors fashion since then. Having weathered the austere years of chrome and black, the sparse loft look, minimalism and the like by adapting its offering to include mid-century and post-modern design along with contemporary art (as well as shunning the ‘chuck out your chintz’ brigade)

The Decorative Fair is now the longest running and largest antiques, design and art event of its kind in the UK. With 130 exhibitors coming from across the UK and Europe, the offering is more diverse than ever. The event prides itself on the quality and breadth of the stock for sale. It is a Fair at which one could happily decorate any style of home from top to bottom in one go.

For inspiration and excitement, a fun and relaxed ambience and wealth of choice, The Decorative Fair cannot be matched. Its worldwide renown is why international trade make a beeline for the event three times a year, joining the tens of thousands of private buyers that attend, looking for individuality and creative ideas for their decorating schemes. This year’s artist line-up includes Imogen Cooper, Rachel Podger, Melvyn Tan, Claire Booth, Ensemble 360, Doric Quartet, Pete Letanka Jazz Trio, Recordare and Britten Sinfonia. Together we will celebrate our 2025 theme in the glorious surroundings of Hatfield House.

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS GUIDE

SEPTEMBER 2025

THE FINEST SCHOOLS IN THE UK

EDGE GROVE SCHOOL: Bright Futures Start Here

This beautiful, home-from-home prep school is set on 48 acres of glorious Hertfordshire countryside, just a short journey from London. Edge Grove School offers a unique blend of space, opportunity, and broad-based excellence. With a strong reputation as one of the UK’s leading independent prep schools, it’s little wonder that more and more parents are choosing Edge Grove to give their children the very best possible start.

If you’re looking for a school that delivers exceptional academics that are underpinned by personalised character development, advanced levels of creativity and critical thinking, and pupilcentred confidence-building all within a supportive and inspiring foundational environment then Edge Grove deserves a place at the top of your list.

This co-educational day school welcomes children from age 3 to 13 and is built around a powerful mission that is supported by three key

pillars: Integrity, Independence and Inspiration. These values rest within the heart of everything Edge Grove does, shaping children not just for school - but for life. Edge Grove is a forwardthinking School that commits to preparing children for an all-rounded, holistic learning for life adventure.

NURSERY RETURNS HOME

From September 2025, Edge Grove’s Nursery will return to the main school site, offering its youngest learners the chance to become part of the broader school community from day one. This

exciting development allows Nursery children to benefit fully from the school’s excellent facilities, specialist teaching, and unique atmosphere. With a curriculum that blends academic rigour and outstanding pastoral care, it is only fitting that our youngest pupils are immersed in the school’s culture, values, and learning environment right from the very start.

Whether it’s exploring the extensive grounds during weekly Forest School afternoons, engaging with subject specialist teachers, developing a love for reading with our qualified librarian in our bespoke Junior library or simply becoming familiar with the rhythms of school life, this early integration gives children an outstanding foundation both academically and emotionally.

PREP SCHOOL TO YEAR 8: A JOURNEY THAT BUILDS CONFIDENCE

Edge Grove’s educational journey doesn’t stop at Year 6. Many pupils remain until Year 8, which gives them a distinct advantage. These final two years are crucial in helping children grow in maturity, take on leadership roles, commit to acts of service and community involvement and prepare thoroughly for their chosen senior schools.

By avoiding rushing through their childhood, in order to move at age 11, children have the space to flourish. They are guided and supported in a way that’s personal and purposeful ensuring they’re ready for whatever lies ahead. Whether destined for day or boarding school, selective entry or all-round opportunities, Edge Grove helps every child find their best fit. The School has a proud history of being able to place children at a wide range of some of the top and most selective state and independent schools in the greater Hertfordshire area.

A PLACE WHERE VALUES MATTER

What makes Edge Grove truly special is its strong, values-led approach. The school’s mission - Integrity, Independence, Inspiration isn’t just

a slogan. It’s brought to life in every classroom, on every sports pitch, in every performance, and through every relationship.

Integrity encourages children to do the right thing, even when no one is watching.

Independence gives them the courage to take ownership of their learning and choices.

Inspiration fuels their love of discoverywhether they’re coding, composing music, building rockets, or simply asking great questions.

From the very youngest to the oldest pupils, Edge Grove children are known, nurtured, and challenged to become their best selves.

AN EXTRAORDINARY SETTING WITH BIG POSSIBILITIES

One of Edge Grove’s most enviable assets is its incredible setting. With 48 acres of open space, woodlands, playing fields, and purpose-built facilities, children here enjoy a school environment that promotes exploration, creativity, and wellbeing.

Despite its countryside charm, Edge Grove is perfectly placed for families in Hertfordshire, and surrounding areas making it a practical choice for those who don’t want to compromise on quality or location.

Inside the classroom, the school delivers a vibrant, rich, forward-thinking curriculum passionately taught by passionate staff, with small class sizes and specialist subject teaching from an early age. Outside the classroom, pupils take part in everything from drama and debating to sport, outdoor adventure, robotics, and musical ensembles.

There’s a strong emphasis on developing many of the softer skills in the form of character and confidence that prepare children; not just for the next step, but for life well beyond the classroom.

A WARM WELCOME AWAITS

Parents often talk about the warm, inclusive feel of the school, a community where children are genuinely happy, supported, and stretched. At Edge Grove, pastoral care isn’t an add-on; it’s embedded in every interaction.

From the moment you walk through the gates, you’ll feel the buzz of purposeful energy, the joy of learning, and the sense of belonging that makes Edge Grove so distinctive.

Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions a parent will ever make. If you’re looking for a learning for life investment opportunity where your child will be inspired to thrive, challenged to grow, and encouraged to be themselves, then Edge Grove School might just be the perfect fit where bright futures are ignited.

THE ENDURING ROLE OF THE LIBRARY AT SCHOOL

A library in a school is much more than just a room filled with books. It is a vibrant hub of learning, imagination, and growth for young people. The importance of a school library cannot be overstated, as it plays a crucial role in fostering a love of reading and developing essential skills in children from an early age.

At Sarum Hall our library is always buzzing with excitement and with approximately 8000 books, ranging from beloved classics to the latest graphic novels (a current favourite!), there’s something for everyone. Our dedicated pupil librarians keep the space organised and inviting and encourage their peers to explore and discover new stories.

As a lifelong book lover, it’s a joy to inspire our pupil’s passion for reading. Last term, our Year 4 enjoyed the Amelia Fang series by Laura Ellen Anderson, Year 5 explored Cath Howe’s books on big themes such as friendship and senior school transition.

Our school library provides access to a wide variety of books and resources that cater to different reading levels and interests. We work hard to ensure that our range of books are diverse and inclusive, ensuring that children see themselves and others represented in print. This encourages pupils to explore new topics, cultures, and ideas beyond their textbooks.

When children discover stories that captivate their imaginations, they develop a lifelong habit of reading, which enhances their language skills,

vocabulary, and creativity. Our partnership with The Children’s Bookshop in Muswell Hill has been invaluable in ensuring that our library remains stocked with the latest reads.

The school library also provides a quiet and safe environment where children can focus on learning. It offers a space for independent study, research, and group activities, helping children build concentration and responsibility. These skills are vital for their academic success and personal development.

Like at many schools, our pupils thoroughly enjoy when authors visit. This year we are particularly looking forward to welcoming bestselling children’s authors Beth Lincoln and Eve Wersocki-Morris.

The school library is a cornerstone of education that nurtures curiosity, knowledge, and a love for reading. By offering access to books, a conducive learning environment, and expert guidance, libraries help shape well-rounded pupils who are ready to succeed both in school and in life. Investing in school libraries is investing in the future of children and the society they will build.

PREPPED FOR LIFE

Merchant Taylors’ Prep School, set in 15 acres of leafy grounds in Northwood, delivers the best of both worlds: a strong academic tradition with an extensive range of co-curricular and sporting activities. Located just minutes from Merchant Taylors’ senior school, it provides an excellent all-through option for high-achieving pupils.

The new Head, Miles Chester, who joined in September, brings extensive experience and a fresh, dynamic approach to the school. He is proud of the prep school’s quality of teaching and the holistic education it offers. “Through an enriched curriculum, we foster every opportunity for pupils to develop their individual potential, nurturing their unique passions, interests and aspirations. The foundation we provide ensures they are equipped with the skills and confidence to transition seamlessly to senior school,” said Mr. Chester.

The focus on the individual pupil is central to the Taylors’ ethos. From the very beginning, teachers take the time to get to know each pupil and their abilities, within a small-class setting. This allows enquiring minds to develop in an

environment where each pupil is given a sense of belonging that helps them to achieve.

Through an extensive programme of extracurricular clubs and activities, boys are encouraged to try new things and explore their talents and creativity. The school uses sport to reinforce its ethos and to instil discipline, teamwork, fair play, responsibility and respect.

Having the senior school nearby offers numerous opportunities for collaboration, particularly in sports, music and academics. With pupils now transitioning to senior school at the end of Year 6, the school is expanding its intake for Year 3 from September 2026. “This is a great opportunity for able pupils with potential to join our school and benefit from a well-balanced education and smooth transition to the senior school”, Mr Chester added.

To explore all that Merchant Taylors’ Prep has to offer, register for one of the school’s open mornings at mtpn.org.uk.

Do you have a little one that can’t keep still and is always on the go!?

Why not channel that energy into DANCE. Established in 1979, our school runs classes in St Albans, Harpenden, Redbourn and Abbots Langley and takes pupils from 18 months to Adults. Our stimulating dance classes provide a healthy and fun environment in which children can exercise and express themselves and are designed to help develop physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality.

Dancing is a fun way to improve fitness and help develop self-confidence. Recognising that self-esteem is essential to a child’s emotional development, we use praise and encouragement to develop this and hold regular “watching days” and shows.

Our adult classes are designed to help lose weight, tone up and keep fit, develop flexibility, co-ordination and balance. A study in the Daily Mail reported that taking up a dance class reduces the risk of developing dementia by a whopping 76%!

Our classes are fun and sociable and a great way to keep fit. Dancing is also one of the most natural and exciting ways of keeping healthy. Please read our “Testimonials” from other pupils and parents!

Empowering every Pipers girl to reach their full potential

At Pipers, being an all-girls school is more than just part of our identity – it’s one of our greatest strengths. Every girl is supported to fulfil their academic and personal potential, not limited by outdated gender stereotypes or societal expectations.

Girls at all-girls schools consistently outperform their co-ed peers academically, but there’s more to it than just exam results. Research from the Programme for International Student Assessment highlights that girls in single-sex schools have higher self-confidence and emotional intelligence, worry less about failure and embrace competition more readily. They set clearer goals, have higher

aspirations and – perhaps most importantly – feel a greater sense of belonging.

This is certainly the case at Pipers. We are a school of individuals and there is no ‘typical’ Pipers student. Student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, with an integrated provision supported by a dedicated Head of Wellbeing. Our ethos of empowerment was perfectly captured in our four sold-out productions of SIX, which centred on the women in Henry VIII’s life. The show affirmed that their voices and stories were just as significant as his. Similarly, at Pipers, we emphasise that every girl’s voice is as important as anyone else’s – whether on stage, in the classroom or beyond. No one is silenced, and no one fades into the background.

Unlike highly-selective schools, Pipers doesn’t have narrow entrance requirements yet our students’ results are comparable to those of the county’s most selective institutions. Everyday our expert teachers create an inspiring and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to thrive, whilst never being afraid to fail. Our commitment to academic rigour is balanced with an emphasis on building resilience and self-esteem. This means students are happy learners and our holistic approach prepares students to succeed in every aspect of life.

At Pipers, we are proud to be an all-girls school and we are preparing our students for a future where they know their voices matter. Here, every student is always moving forward.

Come and see for yourself what makes Pipers extraordinary.

PRIVATELY EDUCATED PEOPLE DOMINATE TOP BRITISH JOBS

The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions

Their grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated.

Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated – as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent.

The report, carried out by Dr Philip Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.

“The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools”

In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives.

The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated.

Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist.

“Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.

Great Institutions Never Stand Still

At a school founded over 1,000 years ago in 948, tradition and heritage matter. St Albans School is one of the oldest schools in the world, and we’re proud of our extraordinary history. But preserving a rich legacy should never be mistaken for resisting change. Traditions evolve, they always have done, and so should we.

It’s one of the many reasons why we have made the decision to extend our co-educational provision across the entire school from Year 7 through to Sixth Form, from September 2026. This wasn’t a sudden decision and has been carefully considered for some time. The aim has always been to build on the School’s strengths and move forward with confidence and ambition into an exciting future.

I firmly believe that a St Albans School education should be open to as many young people as possible. While working towards reaching a decision, we asked ourselves ‘why shouldn’t this school be open to both boys and girls from Year 7, when our Sixth Form has been co-educational for 30 years?’ Each time we asked the question, there wasn’t a compelling enough reason not to make the change. Great institutions never stand still. They can’t progress inside a static bubble. They must continue to evolve and develop. Yes, tradition is important, and it’s precisely because of the longevity of our vision and values that the time felt right to complete the co-educational journey that began over 30 years ago in 1991 when girls were first admitted to the Sixth Form.

The focus now is improving incrementally on something that is already great. The response to our announcement has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve seen a surge in interest from prospective families, many of whom already have sons at the school. We are keen to listen to our

“The focus now is improving incrementally on something that is already great. The response to our announcement has been overwhelmingly positive”

community and prospective families about what they want to see alongside the changes, and we recently enjoyed two fantastic evenings of focus groups, where we welcomed over 50 families and their daughters. These conversations have been invaluable in helping us understand what parents and pupils are looking for as we continue to shape a first-class, inclusive experience for all.

The transition to welcoming both girls and boys into Year 7 next September 2026 is being carefully managed, with every aspect of school life under review to ensure the highest standards and the best outcomes for every child. We’re not reinventing what makes the school special - we’re building on it. Our next Open Mornings are on Saturday 20 September and Saturday 8 November 2025. If you’re considering the next step for your child’s education, we’d be delighted to welcome you and your family to show you all what makes St Albans School such a remarkable place to learn and grow. st-albans.herts.sch.uk

Raffles London’s Guerlain Spa Unveils Luxury Day Experiences

In the heart of Whitehall, the Guerlain Spa at Raffles London continues to set the tone for high luxury wellness with a series of indulgent new spa-day experiences designed for 2025. Two years after its launch, the subterranean sanctuary—spread across four levels of the historic Old War Office – has introduced exclusive packages that blend bespoke Guerlain treatments, refined gastronomy and the kind of experiential touches that make a spa day feel truly extraordinary.

The Tailor-Made Spa Day for One (£1,095) is a meticulously choreographed escape. Guests begin with access to the serene thermal areas and 20-metre swimming pool before a personal consultation and two-hour Guerlain treatment. A fresh juice sets the tone; a two-course lunch provides balance. The day then continues with fragrance engraving at L’Atelier Guerlain, before culminating in a glamorous blow-dry or haircut paired with a glass of champagne. It is London spa culture at its most polished.

For couples or close friends, the Spa Escape for Two (£1,050 per person) turns the Guerlain Spa into a shared haven. Time in the relaxation spaces flows into a joint 75-minute facial delivered in a private suite complete with hot tub. Champagne is poured; conversation lingers; and the ritual concludes with an elegant afternoon tea in Raffles’ Drawing Room – a nod to British tradition with a French-inflected twist.

Adding to the allure, Raffles London has welcomed Andrea Hurst, reflexologist to the stars, to the spa’s treatment roster in 2025. Her exclusive sessions bring a new dimension of precision

wellness and enhance the spa’s reputation as a destination for discerning clients who expect more than surface-level indulgence.

What makes the Guerlain Spa at Raffles singular is not only its treatment menu but also its architectural setting: an immersive, design-led cocoon that houses vitality pools, movement studios, private treatment suites and L’Atelier Guerlain itself. The atmosphere is hushed, enveloping, and a striking contrast to the bustle of Whitehall just above.

As London prepares for autumn, these new offerings place the Guerlain Spa firmly in the spotlight –timely, lavish, and entirely in tune with the expectations of a capital city that thrives on reinvention.

Are you Suffering with Knee Pain? DISCOVER ARTHROSAMID® NOW AVAILABLE AT CARTER & GEORGE

Revolutionary Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people worldwide. While joint replacement surgery is effective, it is also a major invasive procedure with a lengthy recovery period. But now, there’s an alternative.

Introducing Arthrosamid®

Arthrosamid® is a non-biodegradable injectable polyacrylamide hydrogel (2.5% iPAAG) implant consisting of 2.5% crosslinked polyacrylamide and 97.5% water. It is administered via a simple, one-step procedure performed under local anaesthesia by a qualified physician, such as an orthopaedic surgeon or rheumatologist1 — ensuring you’re in and out of the clinic the same day. Arthrosamid® is proven to maintain a significant, long-lasting reduction in knee OA pain2,3— even five years post-treatment.2

How does Arthrosamid® work?

Arthrosamid® is the first and only permanent injectable implant that integrates with the knee’s synovial tissue,4 forming a scaffold that softens and increases tissue elasticity. This leads to decreased joint stiffness, reduced pain, and improved knee function.5,6,7

‘Arthrosamid provides an excellent option for individuals who have early-stage arthritis, wish to maintain an active lifestyle or simply want to avoid surgery. It is a simple outpatient procedure taking no more than 20 minutes to administer via the gold-standard ultrasound-guidance. The injection can potentially offer patients 5 years of sustained pain relief from a single injection and is supported by 20 years of research. At the Carter and George, we will always discuss treatment options first, and decide whether it is suitable for you.’

6 DINING ICONS THAT EVERY DESIGN ENTHUSIAST SHOULD KNOW

Food is the universal language of the world, and the table we gather around is its place of translation. A dining space that allows for expression and carries its own story transforms a room from being simply a place to eat into the beating heart of the home. Memories are both made and recalled here, where plates, and passions, are shared. It embodies all the defining characteristics of what we call home.

TAKE YOUR SEAT AND EXPLORE THE VERY TOP OF TABLETOPS IN OUR DINING GUIDE:

Saarinen Dining Table, Knoll (above)

Like a great many things in that magical period of mid-century design, the Saarinen table was masterminded by the Finnish virtuoso Eero Saarinen. Why is it recognisable? Well, because the likelihood is, no matter your level of furniture knowledge, you have seen it before. It has appeared on both the big and small screen, in media old and new, making it a symbol that represents an entire era of design to millions. The piece has been under the stewardship of Knoll since its inception, founded by his longtime collaborator Florence.

Epic Dining Table:

Epic by name, epic by nature. A monumental mass of marble that wouldn’t be out of place in ancient Greek myth, Gubi’s monolithic masterpiece combines a stylish Scandi palette with geometric angles embodied in soulful Italian stone. Designed by GamFratesi, the dining table has proven so popular that it recently gained a debonair dark green outdoor iteration.

BM1160 Dining Table, Carl Hansen & Søn:

As you’re no doubt aware the 1950s were revolutionary for dining and design in general. Nowhere is this more evident than on the shores of Scandinavia. Danish designer Børge Mogensen’s Hunting Table emerged as one of the standout creations of this Northern European creative explosion. His masterful carpentry, paired with his ethos of making design accessible to all, gave rise to one of Carl Hansen & Søn’s most beloved dining tables: the BM1160 Hunting table.

Infinity Dining Table:

The Infinity table by Porada achieves something many find difficult: it takes materials synonymous with sturdiness and strength and sculpts them into sweeping lines and supple shapes, executed with such precision that they appear almost like a natural occurrence within the timber. It’s little wonder that this design has become Porada’s flagship dining solution and one of Stefano Bigi’s finest works.

Clay Dining Table, Desalto:

Harmony and balance are hard to achieve, especially in the home. Yet in our eyes the embodiment of a Feng Shui space can be found in the structural marvel that is the Clay table by Desalto, with a connecting point so finely poised it feels as though it defies the very laws of physics. Topped with a natural surface and true-to-name clay texturing, it is one of those rare visual dining delights. We aren’t the only ones that took a particular shine to this piece, upon its release it immediately became an award-winning design at multiple shows including ‘Iconic Design’ and the ‘Red Dot Awards.’

“It

EM Dining Table, Vitra:

Another in a long line of mid-century masterpieces, Jean Prouvé’s EM Table is a versatile design that elevates any setting it graces. Subtle yet strong. Stylish yet striking. Just as at home in a contemporary Italian interior as it is in a Scandinavian one, it embodies the timeless adaptability found in so many of Vitra’s creations — the ultimate in multi-faceted design. chaplins.co.uk

LIVING MADE BEAUTIFUL

Luxury interior design studio working throughout London, Surrey & South Wales

In the world of luxury interiors, Wells and Maguire has been crafting spaces of enduring beauty since 2018. With studios in Surrey and South Wales, this award-winning practice transforms everything from serene countryside retreats to sleek city apartments into interiors that are as individual as the people who live in them. Step inside one of their projects and you’ll feel it immediately; light moving across a palette of textures, each detail considered, each piece belonging. It’s elegance that whispers rather than shouts; design made to be lived in, not just looked at.

Specialising in luxury interior design, Wells and Maguire create homes that reflect personality, lifestyle, and aspirations. Crafted for beauty, tailored for life. Each project begins with a conversation, but quickly becomes a journey, discovering the colours that lift your mood, the materials that make you linger, the quiet luxuries that turn the everyday into something extraordinary.

Yet in every setting, there’s a thread of continuity: thoughtful craftsmanship, meticulous detail, and a sense of harmony that makes a space feel utterly yours.

Wells and Maguire’s ethos, living made beautiful, runs through everything they do. Their approach is hands-on, discreet, and entirely personal. From the first design concept to the final placement of

a treasured photograph, they oversee every stage, collaborating with trusted artisans and sourcing pieces that tell your story. Their turn-key service means the transformation happens seamlessly, allowing you to watch your vision unfold without distraction.

Here, luxury is not about excess, it’s about balance, comfort, and a deep connection to place. The results are timeless interiors that evolve with you, standing apart from passing trends and speaking quietly of quality that lasts. For those ready to create more than just a home, Wells and Maguire offer an invitation: to imagine the space you’ve always wanted, and to see it brought to life with artistry and care. Whether it’s a complete transformation or the refinement of a single room, they’ll ensure it’s not only a place to live, but a place to love.

Dobsons celebrates 90 years

2025 is a special year for Dobsons, as it marks the 90th anniversary of the Cheshunt based family business.

The company was originally founded by Frank Dobson in 1935 as a general builders and joiners, with a dedicated joinery workshop on the Turners Hill site where the company remains to this day.

Frank was followed into the business by his son, also Frank, and during the early years Dobsons formed part of an emergency repair group carrying out repairs to many buildings damaged in London during World War II

During the sixties and seventies, following the addition to the business of son Paul and Grandson Nigel Dobson, Dobsons developed the business into shop fitting, fitting out many of the early local supermarkets and building societies.

The eighties saw the beginning of the transformation of Dobsons into the domestic home improvement company that they are today, with the appointment of grandson Tim Dobson in 1980. The following year saw the opening of the first showroom on the site, a window and door centre, which saw the company move away from timber joinery into the newly founded UPVC market.

Dobsons then continued to expand over the years into roofline and conservatories and in the early nineties Dobsons decided to venture into the interior home improvement market for the first time, adding fitted kitchens and bedrooms to their portfolio.

The noughties saw Dobsons further expand into bathrooms and most recently home renovations. During this time the fourth generation of family took over its management, with Great –Granddaughter Helen Dobson and fellow

Dobsons believe this diversification, along with their commitment to customer service and quality products, has been the key to their success over the years.

They are constantly looking for ways to improve their business and ensure their Cheshunt showroom is always kept up to date with the latest trends.

Another factor in their success is their loyal and dedicated staff, most of who have been with the company for many years. Dobsons specialise in carrying out high quality projects, individually designed and project managed from start to completion for a perfect seamless finish.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

To celebrate this special year Dobsons are holding a birthday celebration on Saturday 27th September 11am – 3pm at their Turners Hill showroom, events on the day include;

• Live Cooking from Neff & Siemens Chef

• Cupcake decorating sessions by Signature Cakes by Selin

• Exclusive Special offers available only to sales appointments booked on the day

• £100 Voucher off future orders for everyone attending

• Fantastic Prize Draw

• See their amazing new kitchen and bathroom displays

• Refreshments

• Free parking

Dobsons would love it if you could join them for their celebrations whether you are a previous customer or looking to start a new home project. It’s a great opportunity to see their recently renovated showroom with brand new displays and shopfront.

Interior Design Colour Trends for 2026 Revealed

As 2026 approaches, colour remains a vital tool for expressing mood, personality, and intention in home interiors.

This year, design embraces harmony - soft warmth meets quiet drama, natural tones are elevated, and bold accents return with renewed confidence.

In its latest blog, Wallsauce forecasts that the move away from neutrals will continue in 2026 as more of us embrace colour.

Here’s what to expect in the year ahead for home design colour trends…

POPPY RED

Poppy Red is a vibrant, retro-inspired colour that commands attention and injects energy into any space, from home offices to kitchens. Bold yet versatile, it works beautifully with soft pinks, olive greens, or monochrome accents to create playful or sleek interiors.

VELVET PLUM

Velvet Plum is a rich, romantic purple that adds drama and personality, perfectly suited to the moody interiors trending in 2026. Ideal for living rooms or boutique bedrooms, combine it with warm tones like burnt orange and muted gold, or with soft grey and dark green for a layered, indulgent look.

TIDAL TEAL

Tidal Teal balances cool and warm tones, offering an immersive, comforting shade with a dustier edge that suits both modern and rustic interiors. Ideal for lounges and spa-inspired bathrooms, it pairs well with warm metallics, earthy materials, and layered fabrics for a versatile, textured look.

GOLDEN HOUR

Golden Hour is a mellow, sun-drenched golden yellow with a vintage softness, perfect for creating warm, comforting spaces in 2026. Ideal for dining rooms, bedrooms, or bathrooms, choose it with terracotta, creamy neutrals, and contrasting shades like deep teal or soft lilac for a grounded yet retro vibe.

The 2026 colour palette blends natural tones with warmth to bring calm and character to any home. From the glowing Golden Hour to the rich Velvet Plum, these hues elevate spaces without overwhelming them, encouraging a self-expressive approach to interior design.
