Colchester Zoological Society’s New Christmas Advert: CONSERVATION NEVER STOPS
Colchester Zoological Society looks to help global conservation efforts with the release of their new Christmas advert entitled ‘Conservation Never Stops’, which takes viewers behind-the-scenes of daily life at the Zoo all year round.
On Monday 17th November at 3:00pm, Colchester Zoological Society (CZS) released its Christmas advert after working with Essex-based production company, Deadline Communications, for the third year in a row.
The 3-minute advert takes viewers on a journey to see life at the
Zoo from January through to December, following both the animals and the staff at CZS as well as the visitors.
On 1st February 2025, the Zoo began its new chapter as a charity known as Colchester Zoological Society. For over 60 years, Colchester Zoo was a privately owned Zoo with a charitable arm, since 2004, which provided much needed funds to conservation projects around the world, including UmPhafa Nature Reserve in South Africa.
None of this would have been possible without the help of the Zoo’s dedicated team across all departments, from animal care and maintenance to catering, admissions and the unwavering support from the Zoo’s visitors too – this has set the message of this year’s Christmas advert. Conservation never stops - it simply can’t! Therefore, CZS operates 365 days a year so each and every ticket purchased, every Zoo Pass renewed, and every donation made is vitally important to aid the care provided to endangered species both at the Zoo and across the globe.
Despite the continuous work being made to protect endangered species, the world still faces ongoing threats and requires a neverending effort to restore ecosystems and save creatures big and small. Help CZS care for wildlife and wild places by visiting the Zoo this Christmas but throughout the year too and make memories that last a lifetime. Let’s all celebrate and support conservation this Christmas and all year through.

A New Beginning for Childhood
Childhood is not a rehearsal. It is not the waiting room for what comes next.
It is the beginning for everything.
At Nannie Annies, we see childhood as a whole — mind, body, heart, and spirit. Education here is not something added to children, but something drawn out of them. We honour their voices, their curiosity, their laughter, and their individuality. Children are not preparing for life. They are living it.
And every moment — painting a picture, asking a question, building a tower, listening to a story — is part of that life.
“Every child is not one among many – they are the point of it all”
Our Philosophy
We do not separate learning from play, or care from education. We believe in the whole child: body, mind, heart, and spirit. From storytelling and song to nature and science, from building friendships to finding their own voice – every child is encouraged to wonder, to try, to stumble, to rise again.
Our Learning Culture
Our curriculum is a living, breathing invitation to explore. It blends tradition and innovation, ensuring
children grow with both depth and delight.
• STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics): Children design, build, and test ideas using blocks, clay, circuits, and coding toys. Curiosity is the fuel: “What if…?” becomes a daily habit.
• Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving: We do not hand children answers; we help them ask better questions. Through puzzles, group challenges, and role-play, they learn resilience, reasoning, and collaboration.
• Language, Story & Voice: From their first babble to their first story, we place language at the centre. Children express themselves — through words, song, movement, or art.
• Creative Arts & Expression: Music, drama, and visual arts are essentials. Every child paints, performs, and participates — because creativity is not a gift for some, but a right for all.
• Nature & Environment: Outdoor exploration is part of every day. From planting seeds to observing insects, children develop care for the natural world.
• Wellbeing & Belonging: Yoga, mindfulness, and circle times help children find calm and confidence. Respect, kindness, and friendship are taught not as rules but as ways of living.
“ Learning meets life” - “ Leaders plan a board and enriching curriculum that helps children understand and make connections to real life and the local community” Ofsted
Our Rooms
Our rooms are meticulously designed to cater to the distinctive needs of children based on their age and developmental stage. We firmly believe that providing the best environments enables our children to flourish. Our classes, organised into four levels, align with different stages of development. Children progress to the next level when we believe they are ready, ensuring a tailored and supportive learning journey.
• Willow – Gentle beginnings for our youngest, filled with warmth, sensory play, and security.
• Tiny Chestnuts – A place of early independence, where toddlers find their words, explore textures, and test new skills.
• Great Oak– Full of movement and curiosity: children collaborate, imagine, and ask their boldest questions.
• Mighty Acorn – The stepping stone to school, where confidence meets readiness, and children see themselves as learners and leaders.
Our People
Our staff are not only educators but companions on the journey. They bring professional expertise and deep care, but also playfulness, creativity, and patience. They are trained in child development, safeguarding, and wellbeing, but their true gift is seeing each child for who they are. We invest in continuous training and development, ensuring our practice evolves with the best of research while keeping love and humanity at its core. “wonder, words, and readiness” - “children equipped with useful skills and excellent vocabularies; prepared for next educational stages” Ofsted
Our Culture of Belonging
To be part of Nannie Annies is to belong to a family. We believe education happens not in isolation, but in relationship — with peers, teachers, parents, and community
• Parents are welcomed as partners: workshops, open studios, and daily updates make them part of the story.
• Festivals, exhibitions, and performances celebrate the richness of cultures, languages, and traditions.
• Every child sees themselves reflected in the life of the nursery — valued, visible, and loved.
What Our Parents Say About Us
CK
“Our son attended Nannie Annies for over three years, starting at just 7 months old, and I cannot speak highly enough about the care, dedication and professionalism of the entire team.
From the moment we enrolled, it was clear that this is a truly nurturing and supportive environment where children are genuinely cared for and encouraged to thrive. The staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure that my son felt safe, happy and engaged every day.
What really stood out for us was the genuine connection the staff made for not only our son, but also our family. They were approachable, communicative and consistently supportive, making the transition through different stages seamless and stress-free.
We are incredibly grateful for the foundation
Nannie Annies has provided our son, and we will always look back on his time there with the utmost appreciation. For any parents considering Nannie Annies, I can confidently say it is a truly exemplary nursery that will provide your child with the best possible start”.
PW
The quality of care and education at Nannie Annies is outstanding. Children are engaged with a very wide variety of learning and STEAM activities, as well as educational trips outside, which stimulate their natural curiosity and help to prepare them for the transition to school. The nursery provides excellent feedback and planning every week which helps parents understand what is happening. It is a loving, caring environment for children and we cannot praise the staff and management highly enough
CL
“The service received from the practitioners is outstanding. There is no other childcare setting around that compares. Nannie Annies provide a wonderful, safe and caring environment for the children to learn and grow. My daughter absolutely loves going there and is always so happy when we pick her up.”
HM
“My daughter thoroughly enjoys her days there and is clearly thriving in such a fun and happy environment at the nursery. The staff are all so friendly and clearly passionate about their jobs. They go out of their way to provide a variety of engaging
and educational activities. I also cannot fault their communication with parents — they are always updating us on progress and daily routines.”
OG
“Our daughter has been at Nannie Annies since she was 18 months old and we have always felt incredibly confident in the care she receives. Nannie Annies had such innovative practices that at their heart celebrated play and kept her excited about returning each day. By showing patience and taking the time to get to know her as an individual, they have made her feel secure and valued, and she has continued to blossom.”
CA
“From the very beginning we have found Nannie Annies to be incredibly professional, caring, understanding and have our child’s best interests at heart. The staff are highly skilled and always go above and beyond to create a nurturing environment. We are regularly updated through their app with pictures, live videos and notes about meals, drinks, sleep and even nappy changes! This level of communication has given us peace of mind and confidence as parents.”
Our Promise
We are more than a nursery. We are a place where children learn not only to count and to read, but to wonder, to care, and to believe in themselves.
This is where questions are celebrated, mistakes are honoured, and imagination is set free.

Abridge Celebrates 90 Years Of Spud Supremacy At Annual Potato Dig
The peaceful English village of Abridge, nestled in the district of Epping Forest, celebrated one of its longest-standing and most beloved traditions this weekend - the annual potato dig of the Lambourne and Abridge Potato Club.
This year marked the 90th anniversary of the fiercely contested event, which sees local growers compete to see who can produce the heaviest crop of potatoes grown from a single seed potato. Taking home the coveted trophy this year was Derek Oram, whose remarkable yield weighed in at 26lbs (or 11.8 kilograms).
Known affectionately in the village as “Dig Day,” the event takes place every October. Competitors tour one another’s gardens, spades in hand, to unearth the results of a season’s worth of cultivation. What begins as a friendly tradition often turns into a deep-rooted rivalry, with many of the same families competing year after year and in some cases, generation after generation. The competition’s origins are the stuff of local legend. Nearly a century ago, a spirited argument broke out at the Maltsters Arms, the village pub, between two potato farmers debating who
could grow the biggest spud. The local lord of the manor stepped in, offering a trophy cup to settle the dispute, and so the Lambourne and Abridge Potato Club was born.
In recent years names like Ian Love, Barry Cook, and Derek Oram have become synonymous with potato-growing excellence. Techniques are closely guarded secrets, though most growers agree that plenty of water is essential.
A new generation is now getting their hands dirty in the longstanding competition, with this year’s youngest growers just 4 years old. In a bid to inspire future competitors, the club recently teamed up with Lambourne Primary School, where every class was given a seed potato and a grow bag back in March to start their own mini growing challenge.
As Abridge now settles into a winter of well-earned potato feasts, villagers look forward to January’s annual Potato Dinner, where the winners are honoured, and the traditional Potato Song rings out once again in celebration of the community’s enduring spirit and love of the humble spud.
OYSTER SHACK & SEAFOOD BAR
Sitting in the very heart of the ancient Epping Forest, lies the surprising “Oyster Shack & Seafood Bar”, nestled besides the majestic Kings Oak pub. It’s not very often you would expect to find a seafood stall, located deep in the forest, particularly one of such quality, but we’re rather glad we did!
The shack is now in its 6th year of trading has struck up quite a reputation amongst the West Essex locals, dog walkers and even drawing an inner London crowd, who are venturing out from suburbia for a day in the woods centred around a fishy feast.
start, with daily early morning trips to Billingsgate Fish Market.
“My day starts at 4am with a drive to the market and load up with a nice selection of the freshest fish and seafood we could find. It’s always exciting up there, and great for a chef to have such an array of produce to chose from. Our aim was always to keep things as local as possible, but as fresh as could be. If the seafood and fish is of quality, that’s most of our work done.”
After a year or two of early starts and long days he was lucky enough to meet Maurice. “I text him every night now with my order, and he delivers the following morning. He has become my eyes and nose for the market. Working at the very centre of the market himself for years, he knows exactly what’s coming in from the boats and what’s available. He’s invaluable to us and instrumental in our quality. Thank you Mo!”
Oyster Shack & Seafood Bar itself is an open kitchen, with a daily display counter full of fresh offerings to tempt you with. Serving a selection of the finest oysters from around the British Isles, along with all the usual local seafood you would expect find at a seafood stall, they also offer a delicious hot food, tapas style menu and a list of fresh daily specials.
Tucking into a very tasty bacon and scallop roll, we sat back and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of this buzzing little eatery. Enough to cater for 50 guests under cover, with the addition of a sun terrace with further seating we could understand why this has become such a popular hidden gem.
With a cafe next door serving chips and soft drinks and a pub serving alcohol, looking out across an incredible view it seems they have all aspects covered.
We spoke to several members of this very friendly team who introduced us to Steve Cook, a local restauranteur who runs the Oyster Shack. He explained how things have developed from the
Steve added “it’s great to have such direct contact and feedback from our guests. Some of our clients have become real friends, and I’m very lucky to have acquired such a dedicated great team of professionals working with me. It’s really satisfying and has been great fun”
If seafood and oysters are your thing, then this little secret shack should surely be on your radar if you haven’t already joined the weekend queues.
The Oyster Shack & Seafood Bar (postcode IG10 4AE) is open from 11am till 6.30pm Monday to Sunday in the summer and 11am till 5pm Monday to Sunday in the dark days of winter.
THE DAVID BOWIE CENTRE OPENS AT V&A EAST STOREHOUSE
V&A East Storehouse has opened its doors to the world-first David Bowie Centre on East Bank in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The Centre is first and foremost a working archive and collections store with reading areas and a study room. Visitors can book one-on-one time with their selections from the 90,000+ items in Bowie’s archive through the pioneering new Order an Object service and via appointments with the V&A Archives team.
Access to visit the David Bowie Centre is free but ticketed, with new ticket drops every six weeks. Within the first week of object appointments going live, over 500 items were requested by the public. The most popular object is a frockcoat designed by Alexander McQueen and David Bowie for his 50th Birthday Concert in 1997.
The David Bowie Centre is brought to life with nine rotating mini displays featuring approximately 200 highlights exploring different themes and elements of the archive from Bowie’s creative process and personas to his many collaborators and influences spanning Little Richard to Jungle and Drum & Bass.
The central space includes a dedicated area for exploring the archive further, where visitors who have booked a ticket to see the displays, can explore topic boxes housing curated selections of reproductions of archival material. Overhead hang twenty of Bowie’s
most iconic fashion and costumes in their special storage bags, from Freddie Burretti’s Ziggy Stardust looks to Agnes b’s Heathen ensembles, and Bowie’s 1992 Thierry Mugler wedding suit.
A new film created showcases performances and music videos spanning Bowie’s career and an interactive installation, ‘The Library of Connections’, traces the wide-spread impact of Bowie on popular culture from the sit-com Friends to Issey Miyake fashion and musicians from Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Janelle Monae, and Kendrick Lamar.
New revelations and unseen items
The working archive and Order and Object service invites visitors on a personal journey to explore unseen aspects of Bowie’s extraordinary creative process. Items include Bowie’s first ever instrument – a saxophone brought for him by his father in the early 1960s, iconic and unfinished costumes, stage sets, and Jim Hensondesigned life size puppets of Bowie’s many personas for a music video that was never released.
Bowie’s extensive collection of writing, sketches, storyboards, handwritten and unreleased lyrics, digital artwork, music sheets and correspondence all offer personal insights into his creative process.
Also available to order is one of Bowie’s final Ziggy Stardust ensembles, never seen in the UK, the clapperboard used for the film The Man Who Fell To Earth (1976), artwork, materials and costume related to Bowie’s 50th birthday concert in 1997, and Bowie’s original cover designs for albums Hours and Lodger, among others.
Items tracing the creation of Bowie’s final albums, The Next Day (released 2013) and Blackstar (released 2016) – not seen until now –are also available to book, including costumes, posters and props for The Next Day such as the origami birds Bowie made for his October 2013 NME cover shoot. Blackstar items include Bowie’s own sketches, a costume Bowie decorated by hand for the 2016 ‘Lazurus’ music video referencing an iconic 1975 photoshoot shot by Steve Schapiro, alongside Bowie’s own artwork and awards.
Also available to order is one of Bowie’s final Ziggy Stardust ensembles, never seen in the UK,
Revelations within the displays span Bowie’s prophetic writings on the future of the internet, photographs from recording sessions, his artist’s palette and self-portrait, and a series of unrealised projects. Discovered in Bowie’s office after his untimely passing was The Spectator – a musical set in 18th century London. Bowie researched artists, writers, queer communities, criminals and public executions for the project to illustrate a London society on the cusp of modernity.

THOUGHTFUL PIECES FOR A HEARTFELT CHRISTMAS
Christmas brings us closer - the warmth of familiar company, the comfort of tradition, and the quiet ease of unhurried winter days. A favourite board game often becomes the natural gathering point - which is why our beautifully crafted editions are designed to sit proudly at the heart of your celebrations, and to be enjoyed and passed down by generations to come.
Exclusive to Farrar & Tanner, our Manopoulos backgammon set brings a bold and contemporary feel to a timeless game. Handcrafted in Greece, it features a smooth red leatherette inlaid top and a richly detailed playing field inside. A personalised engraving ensures it’s treasured, played and passed down through the years.
If you like variety, the American Walnut Backgammon & Chess Set offers two classics in one elegant piece. The folding board features real walnut and oak veneers with naturally varied grain that makes every set unique. Open it to find a handcrafted backgammon field ready to turn a calm afternoon into a spirited contest. With engraving added to a brass plaque, the board becomes an heirloom that returns to the table year after year.
To accompany, our Cheese & Port Hamper provides the perfect tipple and snack. Taylor’s Late Bottled Vintage, award-winning Snowdonia cheddar and artisan crackers arrive prepared for gifting in a wooden box - engraved with
your message if you wish.
Completing the scene, a festive music box ticks quietly in the background. A red bus glides through a snowy cityscape to a soft Christmas melody, powered by a hand-wound mechanism that needs nothing more than a gentle turn.
At Farrar & Tanner, we believe it’s the personal details that make a gift truly memorable. That’s why we offer engraving on many of our pieces — names, dates, or a few meaningful words added with precision by our in-house team. Using state-of-the-art equipment and hands that treat every item with care, we transform beautifully made objects into lasting keepsakes. It’s a simple addition that turns a thoughtful gift into a treasured tradition.

IONIAN ESCAPE
Suspended between sea and sky, Cavo Alkyoni offers a refined yet understated escape on Corfu’s serene northeast coast. Perched above the shimmering waters of Avlaki Bay, this private estate brings together four independent villas, panoramic views, and thoughtful, discreet service—all wrapped in the island’s raw natural beauty. It’s a place that feels both secluded and effortlessly luxurious.
Set within manicured grounds shaded by olive trees, the villas—Amalthea, Pelagia, Erato, and Tugela—capture the spirit of contemporary Mediterranean living. Each has its own character: Amalthea is defined by expansive open spaces that flow onto a dramatic 40-metre infinity pool appearing to merge with the sea; Pelagia sits closer to the water’s edge and carries a gentle, intimate charm; while newer additions Erato and Tugela introduce a fresh architectural clarity through clean lines, generous terraces, and maturing gardens that frame uninterrupted views of the Ionian.
The estate is designed with flexibility in mind. The villas can be rented individually or together, comfortably welcoming groups from eight to forty guests. This makes Cavo Alkyoni an exceptional choice for multigenerational escapes, milestone celebrations, or boutique destination weddings where privacy and togetherness are equally important.
Outdoor living is central to the experience: private pools, wide sun terraces, and shaded dining areas encourage slow mornings, long afternoons in the sun, and relaxed dinners that
stretch late into warm Corfiot nights. For cooler months, the pools at Pelagia, Erato, and Tugela can be heated, while a shared tennis court and floating pontoon add further opportunities for leisure.

Guests are supported without ever feeling interrupted, allowing each stay to feel entirely their own.
With returning guests year after year, Cavo Alkyoni has earned a loyal following for its understated elegance, breathtaking views, and quietly attentive hospitality. Japan beyond the slopes 35 YEARS OF POWDER BYRNE EXPERTISE
For over three decades Powder Byrne has built deep roots in Japan, shaping travel experiences that go far beyond skiing. Their knowledge of the country is not limited to the snow-capped peaks, they guide travellers into lesserknown regions, helping them connect with traditions, landscapes and the people who make Japan truly special.
Why Powder Byrne know Japan
Powder Byrne’s long standing presence in Japan gives them a unique edge. Their experts have developed bespoke adventures not just in the ski resorts of Hokkaido and Tohoku, but in the quieter, more soulful corners of the country. Over the years they have cultivated relationships with local hot spring inns, family run ryokans, regional artisans and spiritual guides. This level of immersion and local
connection is rare and sits at the core of their expertise. Through their tailored itineraries clients experience authentic moments far from the tourist trail, supported by guides who know both Japan’s iconic and hidden places intimately.
Why explore Japan beyond the big cities
Many travellers arrive in Japan aiming for Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka. Powder Byrne encourages them to look deeper into regions such as Tohoku, Kyushu and the lesser travelled coastal and mountain areas, where authenticity thrives. For example, in the Yamagata and Miyagi regions visitors may stay in seaside onsen hotels, sample fugu sashimi crafted by master chefs, or hike through ancient cedar forests with Yamabushi monks. These experiences reveal a side of Japan that is peaceful, spiritual and grounded in heritage, far from
the fast pace of metropolitan life.
By exploring rural Japan clients also encounter regional creativity: family run wineries, historic silk weaving workshops and traditional sword arts. Even the accommodation tells a story, from boutique ryokans that combine Michelin level cuisine with local produce to temple lodgings where guests can join monks for morning prayer. These journeys are not built around checklists; they are about living slowly, meaningfully and in harmony with a place.
Why travel with Powder Byrne to Japan
There are many ways to travel but Powder Byrne’s approach is purpose driven. Their thirty years of experience mean they understand the subtleties of Japan including how to move between
“Whether clients want to combine a ski holiday with a cultural discovery trip or spend ten days exploring rural Japan, they can shape an itinerary to match their interests”
remote areas, where to find the best small scale inns, and how to create culturally resonant moments. Their tailormade itineraries are crafted with care; whether clients want to hike remote forest trails, make mochi with a local family or take part in a soba making class hosted by the president of a ryokan.
Safety, comfort, and authenticity are built into every trip. Powder Byrne arranges knowledgeable guides, private transport and local hosts who bring regional stories and traditions to life. Travellers benefit from the company’s long-term relationships, which open doors to hidden places and people who would be hard to reach otherwise.
Powder Byrne also offers flexibility. Whether clients want to combine a ski holiday with a cultural discovery trip or spend ten days exploring rural Japan, they can shape an itinerary to match their interests. Their insider knowledge ensures the pace is right, the logistics run smoothly, and every detail reflects thoughtful design, from hot spring rituals to hands on craft experiences.
For travellers seeking Japan beyond the expected, Powder Byrne’s three decades of expertise provide a trusted and insightful way to explore one of the world’s most fascinating countries.

Thinking of an investment property?
THINK ABU DHABI
by Sonia Cox
Sitting on the Persian Gulf, Abu Dhabi has grown into a global hub for finance, innovation, and tourism. With futuristic skyscrapers standing alongside mosques, pristine beaches, and world-class cultural landmarks, it is both cosmopolitan and rooted in tradition, making it one of the most attractive places to live, visit, and invest. Right now the real estate market is on fire and the property market is booming; this is a serious place to consider investing
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates, each with its own character and charm. Think of an emirate as similar to a county or province, but with its own ruler and governance under the wider system of government. While Dubai often grabs international headlines, it is Abu Dhabi – the capital and largest emirate – that quietly blends modern innovation with deep cultural heritage.
Why Choose Abu-Dhabi?
I’ve been fortunate to spend the past six and a half years living in Abu Dhabi, and it truly has been one of the most wonderful chapters
of my life. Although my husband and I have returned to the UK for a while, our connection to the UAE remains strong, not only because our son is living and working there, but also because we have invested in property and see the long-term potential.
When compared with Dubai, only an hour away, Abu Dhabi is a complete change of environment; it offers a calmer pace, shorter commutes, a strong sense of community, good schools and good housing options.
Safety and Security
Peace of mind is priceless, and the UAE has recently been ranked the safest country in the world by Numbeo’s 2025 Mid-Year Safety Index, scoring higher than 147 other nations. Low crime rates, strong public safety measures, and highly effective law enforcement all contribute to this reputation. This is a very reassuring factor no matter whether you’re considering a move, a holiday, or a long-term investment.
The Climate
For six to eight months of the year, Abu Dhabi offers glorious sunshine and warm temperatures, making it perfect for those who love the outdoors. Yes, the summers are hot, but life continues seamlessly thanks to climate-controlled malls, cultural attractions, theme parks, and hotels, meaning comfort is never compromised.
SONIA COX, PROPERTY CONSULTANT
Lifestyle and Leisure
Abu Dhabi has invested heavily in becoming a world-class leisure and cultural hub. Yas Island is a dream playground for families, with recordbreaking theme parks like Ferrari World, Warner Bros, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld, and the soon-to-come Disneyland (set to be the company’s most technologically advanced park ever!).
Add to that the annual Formula 1 Grand Prix, world-renowned golf at Yas Links, and a buzzing entertainment scene, and it’s quite clear why Yas Island is considered one of the most exciting destinations on the planet.
For a different vibe, just a short drive away, Saadiyat Island brings culture and relaxation. Home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, stunning beaches, and the Abrahamic Family House, it’s also set to welcome the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, and the Natural History Museum. Whether your passion is art, history, or simply soaking up the sun, Saadiyat delivers.
Property Investment Potential
“Abu Dhabi is a complete change of environment; it offers a calmer pace, shorter commutes, a strong sense of community, good schools and good housing options”
With ongoing growth and development, Abu Dhabi is increasingly appealing for property investment. The market offers strong potential for rental yields, a safe and regulated environment, and the significant advantage of being tax-free. Whether you’re looking for a holiday home, a buy-to-let opportunity, or a long-term base in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi is firmly on the map.
For the past two years, I worked with MD Real Estate LLC, (see their Instagram) an excellent company specialising in the Abu Dhabi market. Now back in the UK, I continue to work with them internationally, helping others discover the opportunities this vibrant emirate offers.
If you are curious about life in Abu Dhabi, or if you’re considering property investment there, I’d love to share my insights and experiences with you. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch, I’d be delighted to help you explore whether Abu Dhabi could be your next adventure.
Further Points to Consider
Strong Market Growth. The real estate market has been experiencing significant growth in both prices and rental yields, making it a potentially lucrative investment.
Tax Benefits. Abu Dhabi offers a tax-free environment on personal income and property gains, which can boost your overall returns.
High Quality of Life. The city is known for its modern infrastructure, excellent healthcare and educational facilities, making it a great place to live.
Strategic Location. A central hub in the Middle East with great connectivity to Europe, Asia and Africa, which can be advantageous for business and travel.
Developing Infrastructure. Due to the Abu Dhbai Economic Vision 2030’ framework, the government has invested heavily in world-class infrastructure to support economic growth, sustainability, and quality of life.
Purchase Options. ‘Off-plan’, buying directly from the developer before it’s completed (often at the lowest price available and with flexible payment plans). ‘Re-sale’, property that’s still under construction, where the first buyer is selling before the handover takes place. ‘Secondary market’, which covers properties that are already built, ready to move into, or currently lived in and being resold by the owner.
Visa Possibilities. Any person purchasing property worth over AED 2.1 million (approx. £425k) can apply for a Golden Visa. This option also gives the visa holder opportunity to sponsor family members. If you would like to know more about anything in this article, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

NURTURING WELLBEING CHIGWELL SCHOOL
Idyllically set within 100 acres of rolling Green Belt countryside, yet with glorious views of the City of London, Chigwell School offers a leafy and spacious environment that inspires our pupils to grow and learn. A summer visit to Chigwell reveals a joyous spectacle: pupils dotted across the fields running, playing football or cricket, or simply enjoying time with friends in our beautiful grounds. With such space and freedom to connect, it is easy to see why our pupils feel so at home here.
Every pupil at Chigwell benefits from the support of an outstanding pastoral team dedicated to developing the whole child, helping them feel safe, supported, and ready to flourish. Our strong House system fosters close relationships and a sense of belonging, whilst our innovative Wellbeing Curriculum equips pupils with the practical tools required to navigate an ever-changing world. Through our Five Pillars of Wellbeing (Emotional, Career, Social, Financial,
and Physical) we teach strategies that build resilience, confidence, and informed decision-making.
We recognise that transitions can be challenging, which is why Year 7 pupils have dedicated Wellness lessons delivered by the PE department, and short mindfulness courses in Years 7 and 8 as part of our enrichment programme. By embedding wellbeing into daily school life, we prepare pupils for success both in school and in the years ahead.
Alongside our dedicated pastoral team and Wellbeing Curriculum, pupils have access to a purpose-designed Wellbeing Room, a calm, supportive space where they can take time out, reflect, or seek help when needed from our Counselling team. This is complemented by our peaceful chapel, which provides opportunities for quiet contemplation and regular services led by our Chaplain that nurture spiritual wellbeing. In addition, a wide range of faith-based societies
ensures that pupils of all backgrounds can explore and celebrate their beliefs, fostering understanding and dialogue within our richly diverse school community.
At Chigwell, encouraging student voice is central to our ethos. Pupils help shape the culture of the school through leadership roles, thriving Student Councils, and even participation in staff interview panels. These opportunities empower students to influence decisions, share perspectives, and take ownership of their community, from shaping charity initiatives to informing school policies.
However, what truly sets Chigwell apart is our firm belief that pastoral care is a shared responsibility strengthened through genuine partnership with parents. Research consistently shows that when parents and schools work together, pupils benefit academically, emotionally, and socially. We actively foster this partnership through initiatives such as our Chigwell Conversations, a programme of events designed to engage parents in meaningful dialogue about the issues that matter most to families today.
We regularly welcome leading voices in education, psychology, and wellbeing, including internationally recognised experts such as Dr Dominique Thompson and Dr Maryhan Baker. Their talks have covered
topics ranging from digital wellbeing and staying safe at social events to building resilience and navigating adolescence. We aim to support parents in feeling informed, empowered, and connected, not only to the school but to a wider community of experts and fellow parents. Our Chigwell Conversations programme exemplifies our proactive approach: rather than waiting for challenges to arise, we seek to equip families with the tools and knowledge to anticipate and address them.
Moreover, our regular coffee mornings with senior leaders are always popular; these informal gatherings provide parents with direct access to decision-makers in a relaxed setting, ensuring feedback is heard and acted upon. This openness fosters trust and helps ensure that our pastoral strategies reflect the real needs of our families.
Ultimately, our ethos is simple: education works best when school and home work hand in hand. At Chigwell, parents are not passive observers but active partners in their child’s journey. This collaborative approach strengthens the sense of community that defines our school and ensures that every pupil is supported to thrive. In doing so, we honour almost 400 years of Chigwell’s defining values: community, care, and collaboration.

CLAYESMORE: A Place Where Every Child Finds their Strengths
There are some schools you can describe, and others you simply have to experience. Clayesmore falls firmly into the latter. Tucked into the rolling Dorset countryside, there is an undeniable sense of something special here. A warmth, an energy, a quiet magic that greets you the moment you arrive. It is not the beautiful buildings or the impressive facilities that define Clayesmore, but the way each child is embraced, understood and empowered to flourish.
Clayesmore is a truly inclusive community where everyone belongs. It is a school that celebrates difference, recognising that every child brings their own stories, strengths and potential. Here, no one is expected to fit a mould. Instead, pupils find their place, their people and their confidence, supported by teachers who know them not just by name, but by nature. This deep sense of belonging creates a foundation from which students begin to believe in themselves, and from this belief comes achievement.
Success at Clayesmore is not measured solely by outcomes, but by growth, confidence and character. Every student is encouraged to exceed their own expectations, discovering abilities they may not have realised they had. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, in the art studio or on stage, each child is supported to explore their interests and embrace new challenges with curiosity and courage.
A holistic approach to education sits at the very heart of Clayesmore life. Academic learning is thoughtfully balanced with creativity, sport, outdoor pursuits and enrichment, ensuring
students develop not only intellect, but emotional intelligence, resilience and independence too. From the nurturing foundations of the Prep School through to the empowering environment of the Senior School and Sixth Form, every stage of the journey is carefully guided and deeply personal.
Perhaps what makes Clayesmore most special is its kind, family feel. It is a community where children feel safe to be themselves, where they are listened to, valued and encouraged to aim high. In this supportive environment, pupils grow into confident, compassionate and grounded young people ready to step forward into the world.
Clayesmore is more than a school. It is a place where magic quietly happens every day. A place - where children find their strengths, their voices and their future. A place where they belong, believe and truly become.

ST DUNSTAN’S COLLEGE named Most Progressive Independent School in south-east England
St Dunstan’s College is delighted to announce that it has been named Most Progressive Independent School in south-east England at LUXLife Magazine’s Private Education Awards 2025, marking the third consecutive year the College has received this prestigious accolade.
This distinguished awards programme is dedicated to celebrating excellence in the private education sector, recognising the institutions, educators, and organisations that are shaping the future of learning with innovation, dedication, and outstanding achievements.
Speaking about the news, Head of Senior School, Jade McLellan, said: ‘Being named the Most Progressive Independent School in southeast England for the third consecutive year is a powerful endorsement of who we are and what
we stand for as a community. At St Dunstan’s we are unapologetically ambitious for our young people, not only in their academic outcomes, but in the kind of individuals they become.
‘This award reflects our commitment to innovation in the classroom, a culture of integrity and kindness, and an environment where every student is encouraged to think independently and be themselves. I am immensely proud of our students and staff, whose curiosity, creativity and hard work make recognition like this possible.’
Last autumn, St Dunstan’s become one of the first schools in the country to receive two significant strengths as part of its ISI inspection. The report praised the broad and varied curriculums on offer to students at St Dunstan’s, explaining: ‘Leaders have put in place an ambitious, timetabled curriculum which provides extensive opportunities for pupils to acquire the
broadest of learning experiences. Leaders have taken great care in the design of this multifaceted programme which is included as part of the school day.
‘There are four separate strands; together these provide the full range of curriculum subjects, an extensive offering of broader learning experiences, a programme of teaching skills for the future and one that focuses on building pupils’ wellbeing and self-awareness. The breadth and relevance of this curriculum and leaders’ decision that all pupils participate in these opportunities, is a significant strength.’
The second ‘significant strength’ applauded the school’s dedication to celebrating diversity within the school.
‘The school’s ethos supports leaders in creating a strong community where diversity is celebrated,’ the report found. ‘This works through many facets of school life: through the curriculum, through the varied groups in school, led by pupils which celebrate diversity, and through producing events such as the annual St Dunstan’s festival. All these promote respect and understanding among the pupils for everyone in their own school and in the wider local community. This is a significant strength of the school.’
“The second ‘significant strength’ applauded the school’s dedication to celebrating diversity within the school”
St Dunstan’s won Independent Senior School of the Year at the Tes Schools Awards in 2022. The College’s sport department was also praised for its Diversity and Inclusion efforts at the Education Choices Awards 2024 and 2025.

RESPONDING TO A CHANGING WORLD. BECKENHAM’S LEADING PREP SCHOOL LAUNCHES NEW INITIATIVE FOR PUPILS
Head of St Christopher’s The Hall, Tom Carter, explains more about the forward-thinking programme and why it’s so important.
This year at St Christopher’s The Hall, we launched a new initiative that is already making a powerful difference to our pupils, The Horizon Programme. It was created in response to something teachers and parents are noticing everywhere: children are growing up in an increasingly digital world, and many of the practical skills, social habits and deeper patterns
of thinking that once developed naturally are becoming less familiar. The Horizon Programme is our way of bringing those essential experiences back into daily school life.
We see bright, capable children who can access information instantly, yet sometimes hesitate when faced with open-ended problems. Many find it challenging
to maintain focus in a world full of digital distractions, and collaborative, face-to-face work can require more practice than it once did. Opportunities to build, create, explore and persevere, cornerstones of childhood, are becoming less frequent in a screen-led culture.
Horizon responds to this directly. Each week, pupils in Years 1–6 take part in purposeful, hands-on sessions built around four pillars: Character, Leadership, Sustainability and Life Skills. These experiences help children rediscover the joy of working together, thinking deeply and developing the real-world confidence that cannot be learned through a screen.
The early impact has been remarkable. Pupils talk about Horizon sessions with genuine excitement. Teachers are observing stronger teamwork, improved perseverance and calmer, more intentional engagement. The programme has brought a renewed sense of curiosity, creativity and focus into the school week.
Already, pupils have explored themes such as sustainability, embracing practical challenges with maturity and ownership, a clear reminder of how much children flourish when given meaningful, real-world tasks. They have also taken part in activities designed to strengthen focus, practising how to slow down, tune out distractions and enjoy the satisfaction of deep, uninterrupted attention. These examples confirm that the skills we hoped to nurture were exactly the ones our pupils needed most.
And these are only the beginning. As the year continues, we will move into a range of practical Life Skills, the small but important tasks children once learned naturally but do not always encounter today. Pupils will learn how to change a bed, tie a tie, make a cup of tea safely, use simple tools, read basic instructions, plan a small budget, and even sew on a button. These may seem modest, yet they foster independence, confidence and a quiet sense of capability that stays with children for life. Parents
often say, “I wish someone had taught me these things at school.” Now, we are.
What makes The Horizon Project so powerful is both its warmth and its purpose. It gives children the time and space to try, to get stuck, to recover, to succeed, and to discover that each of these steps is valuable. It nurtures resilience without pressure, responsibility without stress and curiosity without fear. It restores the grounding, practical roots of childhood that can so easily be overshadowed in a fast, high-tech world.
The Horizon Project is far more than a new initiative; it is a thoughtful response to the way childhood is changing. We are proud of its early impact and excited for everything still to come. By giving pupils structured opportunities to build real-world skills and essential habits of mind, the Horizon Programme is helping children grow into confident, capable young people who are ready not just for their next step, but for life.

ROSEMEAD PREPARATORY SCHOOL AND NURSERY CELEBRATES AFTER A TRIUMPHANT YEAR
Dulwich’s leading prep school, Rosemead, is celebrating after another successful year. This summer, Rosemead was delighted to be named as Independent Prep School of the Year at the Tes Schools Awards 2025.
The prestigious awards, often referred to as the Oscars of education, celebrate the most outstanding schools and teachers across the UK’s state and independent sectors, recognising excellence from early years through to secondary education.
The glittering awards ceremony took place on Friday 20 June at the Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London, where Rosemead was honoured alongside other exceptional schools and educators.
The judging panel, made up of leading figures
from across the education sector, praised Rosemead for its personalised approach, vibrant community and holistic educational offering.
In February 2023, Rosemead joined the St Dunstan’s Education Group, a move that has helped strengthen the school’s vision and strategic development.
Speaking about the Tes Award, Nick Hewlett, CEO of the Group, said: ‘This is a phenomenal achievement for Rosemead and richly deserved. The school has been on an extraordinary journey, and I pay huge tribute to the entire leadership team who have transformed this school. It has been a joy to welcome Rosemead into the Group.
‘The Good Schools Guide was absolutely right to call Rosemead the “one to watch” in south London – and now the Tes Schools Awards have confirmed it.’
This latest recognition builds on a series of recent successes. In the last academic year, Rosemead won two prestigious awards – for Excellence and Innovation in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Awards, and Best EDIB (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging) at the Education Choices Awards 2024. Following the Tes win, Rosemead was also shortlisted for Independent School of the Year for Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) at Independent Schools of the Year Awards.
Rosemead was also one of the first prep schools in the country to receive a
significant strength in its most recent ISI inspection.
“This latest recognition builds on a series of recent successes. In the last academic year, Rosemead won two prestigious awards – for Excellence and Innovation in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion”
‘A highly customised approach to every pupil’s academic progress is a significant strength of the school,’ the report explained. ‘A customised learning programme in mathematics, English and reasoning caters for pupils in Year 4 and above. This, supported by an extensive enrichment programme and much support for individuals, impacts on all groups of pupils, enabling them to make good and
often rapid progress over time.’
Prospective families will have the opportunity to meet the leadership team, current staff and students, and learn more about the awardwinning education at Rosemead at their upcoming open morning. Rosemead’s next open morning will take place on Wednesday 11 February 2026. Book at rosemeadprep.org.uk
INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS: Unlocking Student Potential
With options ranging from boarding schools to modern alternative curricula, there is almost certainly a school to suit each and every child. Here are some of the reasons why parents are choosing to give their children the unique experience of private school and why it’s worth the financial investment.
Enriched academic opportunities
One of the accepted benefits of private schools is that they provide exceptional and challenging educational experiences through extracurricular activities, Advanced Placement courses, and the International Baccalaureate programme, just to name a few. The IB programme focuses on school work and on developing you as a whole person. Private school students constantly score top marks on standardized tests and college entrance exams, and many schools have a 100 per cent rate of students attending their university of choice.
Controlled class sizes
A comprehensive study on class size made by educational researchers Bruce Biddler and David Berliner in 2002 showed that the smaller the class size, the better the average
student performs on academic achievement tests. The gains from smaller class sizes are stronger the longer a child is exposed to them. Private schools vary greatly in size, but depending on their teaching style, almost all focus on the importance of small class sizes to individually help students’ weak areas and advance their strengths.
Dedicated teachers
In a study completed by the Fraser Institute in 2007, 91 per cent of parents surveyed said the dedication of the teachers was their main reason for choosing private school. Instructors are both qualified and passionate about their subjects, often holding advanced degrees in their field. Within the tight-knit school community, students have close relationships with their teachers who commonly act as role models. In addition, small class sizes make staff members more readily available for extra help or to further challenge individual students.
Parental involvement
Private schools are built around open communication between parents and administration, and they make it a priority to involve parents in the community. From frequent parent-
teacher meetings, social events such as parent breakfasts and family camping weekends, and the participation of parent committees in fundraising initiatives, families become an integral part of the child’s education. This common ground also helps strengthen parentchild relationships.
A safe environment
education when they are in control of their class attendance and achievement.
Ample resources
At private schools, you’ll find incredible resources to support student learning in the classroom, sports field, art studio, and beyond. Quality resources provide students with the opportunity to fully explore their interests and talents.
Extracurricular activities
While academics remain the priority for most private schools, many also place a strong focus on a well-rounded education and encourage participation in extracurricular activities such as sports, music, arts or clubs. This involvement helps stimulate students in their studies, as noted in a study at Stanford University that found that students involved in the arts are more motivated to learn and are three times more likely to win a school attendance award. Extracurricular activities can provide a much-needed break from the stresses of academics while developing skills and engaging in valuable social situations.
“At private schools, you’ll find incredible resources to support student learning in the classroom, sports field, art studio, and beyond”
Private schools have reputations for maintaining high standards for discipline and respect. Lower staff-to-student ratios allow for more effective observation and control of school grounds. The strong sense of community found in private schools also discourages dangerous behaviour. In the Fraser Institute study, around 72 per cent of parents surveyed with children in the private school system strongly agreed that their school was safe, which greatly improves the quality of the child’s educational experience and achievement. The discipline they learn also improves their rates for success in post-secondary
Development for today’s and tomorrow’s world
Private schools go beyond offering the mandatory subjects required by provincial curriculum; they can offer students a wide range of specializations including arts programs, athletics, maths and science. Private schools are responsible for producing many leaders in politics, business and society, with a history of adapting quickly to changes in technology and culture. And today, they are also sought by parents of children with special needs such as behaviour problems or learning disabilities.

IFESTIVE JOY FROM 89 A SEASON WITH FLORIS LONDON
n St James’s, the festive season arrives with quiet confidence.
The streets glow with light from historic shopfronts, the air carries hints of pine, frankincense and polished wood, and every doorway seems to hold a story waiting to be stepped into. At 89 Jermyn Street, that story has been unfolding for nearly three centuries.
Here, Floris London – Britain’s oldest family-run perfumery –continues its tradition of crafting fragrances that are both beautiful and enduring. This Christmas, its Festive Joy, From 89 collection captures the spirit of the season in gifts designed to be kept, remembered, and cherished.
The Heritage Behind the Door
Still in the hands of the ninth generation of the Floris family, the brand’s reputation has been built on quality, craftsmanship, and service. For nearly 300 years, customers have crossed the threshold not just for fragrance, but for an experience rooted in care, knowledge, and artistry. Its patrons have included royalty, literary greats, and Hollywood icons. In 2023, Floris was honoured with the Royal Warrant to His Majesty King Charles III, formal recognition of its longstanding dedication to excellence.
Inside, polished wood cabinets and
softly lit counters set a welcoming tone. At the back, a small museum displays treasures from the archives, including a letter from Florence Nightingale expressing her affection for the White Rose fragrance. The main Floris Museum, however, is tucked away in the Bespoke Room, a space reserved for those creating a scent of their own.
The 2025 Festive Collection
The Festive Joy, From 89 collection brings together signature Floris creations and seasonal combinations, presented in packaging inspired by the elegance of its Jermyn Street home.
For gentlemen, the No. 89 Duo pairs the house’s best-selling fragrance with a matching bath and shower gel in a gift box illustrated with the boutique façade. For lovers of richer scents, the Honey Oud Duo combines the opulent Honey Oud Eau de Parfum with a newly launched body moisturiser for a layered experience.
The Perfumer’s Trilogy offers three 10ml fragrances for him or her, ideal for discovery or travel. The Soap Collection delivers everyday luxury in refined form, while miniature fragrances, hand treatment creams, and individual soaps make thoughtful stocking fillers.
Rose Geranium – An Icon’s Choice
Among the collection, the limited-edition Rose Geranium Eau de Parfum carries a particularly evocative history. In 1959, while staying at
Claridge’s during the filming of Some Like It Hot, Marilyn Monroe visited Floris under the alias “Miss Dorothy Blass” and ordered six bottles of Rose Geranium Toilet Water to be sent to The Beverly Hills Hotel. The original receipt, later amended to her full name, remains part of the Floris archives.
“Whether it is a signature scent in a ribboned box, a set for discovery, or a fragrance crafted entirely for you, Floris approaches gifting with intention”
Today, Rose Geranium returns in Eau de Parfum form. It opens with bright geranium and citronella, leading to a heart of palmarosa, rose, and rosewood, before settling into a warm cedarwood base. Elegant and distinctive, it is a scent that speaks of timeless style.
Bespoke – The Gift Beyond the Season
While not part of the Christmas collection, the Bespoke Fragrance Experience is perhaps the most exceptional gift one could give at this time of year. Available year-round, it offers the recipient the chance to work one-to-one with a Floris perfumer to create a fragrance that exists nowhere else.
Conducted in the privacy of the Bespoke Room, the process combines careful consultation with expert blending, resulting in a unique fragrance bottled, archived, and available to re-order. It is the ultimate expression of thoughtfulness, destined to be remembered long after the season has passed.
The Art of Gifting
Whether it is a signature scent in a ribboned box, a set for discovery, or a fragrance crafted entirely for you,
Floris approaches gifting with intention. Festive Joy, From 89 is more than a seasonal collection, it is a celebration of heritage and the thought that goes into every detail. In an age when the season can be hurried, Floris offers a slower, more considered approach to giving. Where history, artistry, and personal connection are wrapped together, ready to be shared.
To discover more, visit the Floris London shop at 89 Jermyn Street or explore the collection at florislondon.com.

TTHE GSTAAD COLLECTION BY AUGUSTINE JEWELS
he Gstaad Collection by Augustine Jewels is the epitome of winter luxury. With its cool tones and intricate craftsmanship, it is no surprise that this British gemstone jeweller was shortlisted for Creative Jewellery Designer of the Year 2025. The collection pairs Teal Topaz, echoing the deep blue skies of Gstaad, with Diamonds and White Topaz, symbolising crisp snow, all set in Solid Yellow Gold or Gold Vermeil for an elegant, timeless finish.
At the heart of the collection sits the Gstaad Statement Ring, its pièce de résistance. Alexandra Robson, Founder and Head Designer, has cleverly woven the graceful wedeln skiing pattern into the sweeping gold design. Adorned with sparkling diamonds and wrapped around a central octagon-cut Teal Topaz, the ring is a breathtaking showcase of artistry that has been highly sought after this season.
Perfectly complementing the statement ring are the Gstaad Drop Earrings. You can support this British brand by indulging in their most luxurious pair, featuring eight pear and round-cut diamonds that cascade beautifully and catch the light with every movement. Other popular options include the alternating White and Teal Topaz variations, offering a striking contrast within the flowing design. For those seeking something more understated, the shorter four-stone drops are an elegant choice. The White Topaz version in particular has become a favourite among clients both in the UK and at their recently opened Upper East Side boutique in New York, an impressive achievement following the store’s launch in March.
Augustine Jewels’ commitment to natural gemstones shines through in the Teal Topaz Cocktail Ring, which allows the octagon-cut stone to take centre stage in a simple yet stunning four-claw setting. Available in 18ct or 9ct White or Yellow Gold, as well as Gold Vermeil and Sterling Silver, the ring can be tailored to suit your preferred
finish. For those who love something bolder, the Sky Blue Topaz and Teal Topaz Cocktail Ring showcases a striking trio of stones, two pear-cut Teal Topazes and a square-cut Sky Blue Topaz, offering extra sparkle and making it a wonderful gift for the New Year.
With the rich blue tones of Teal Topaz paired with the brilliance of Diamonds and White Topaz, the Gstaad Collection beautifully captures the essence of winter, afternoons on the slopes and après-ski moments by a warm fire.

FOCUS ON: EYELID
SURGERY
Crows feet, excess skin, wrinkles and puffiness around the eyes are all signs of ageing. The delicate skin around the eyes is thin and with age loses elasticity as the supportive structures weaken. Age, stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, dehydration and sun exposure can all contribute to the appearance of the eye area.
Blepharoplasty (upper and/or lower eyelid surgery) aims to create a more alert and refreshed appearance, whilst correcting any asymmetry. This is done through tightening the supportive structures and removing loose skin or bulging fat around the eyes.
Who is it for?
Most commonly surgery is appropriate for people over the age of 40. Before this, injections may play a role in prevention and treatment. Genetics can play a part in drooping eyelids and eye bags, in which case, patients may seek surgical intervention earlier.
Why get surgery?
Surgery provides a longer term solution. Often patients have trialled many different creams and other treatments and are ready for something that will fix the issue fully.
What are the types of surgery?
Upper eyelid surgery removes any folds and/or fat that has collected in the upper eyelid. The role of the eyebrow is important to take into consideration with upper eyelid surgery as it can fall with age and cause the eyelid to fold. Lower eyelid surgery improves the folds of lower eyelid skin and/or the fat that is pushing into the lower eyelid, causing a bulge. These types of surgery can be combined if necessary.

While complications are rare, possible side effects may include minor swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness at the injection site. In very rare cases, more serious reactions can occur, which are discussed in full during your consultation.
9. What kind of aftercare do you provide, and who should I contact if I have concerns?

10. How do you determine which treatments are suitable for me?
Each treatment plan begins with a comprehensive, one-to-one consultation. Austin takes time to assess your facial anatomy, skin condition, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals, ensuring that any recommended treatment enhances your natural features safely and appropriately.
11. How natural-looking can I expect my results to be?
Natural results are at the heart of every treatment. Austin’s philosophy is “you, only refreshed” — enhancing your features subtly, so you look well-rested and confident, not “done.”
12. How long do the results typically last?
Results vary depending on the treatment:
• Anti-wrinkle injections: around 3–4 months
• Dermal fillers: typically 6–18 months, depending on the area treated
• Skin boosters: around 6 months, with cumulative benefits over time

Most clients return for maintenance every 3–6 months, depending on the treatment and individual goals. Austin provides personalised advice during your review appointments.
14. Can you explain the procedure step by step?
Yes, every step is clearly explained before and during the procedure. After cleansing and preparing the area, a topical numbing agent (if needed) is applied. The injections are then administered using fine needles or cannulas to minimise discomfort. The procedure usually takes 20–40 minutes, and you can return to normal activities shortly after.
15. What type of anaesthesia or numbing options do you use?
A topical anaesthetic cream is available for most treatments, and many fillers also contain lidocaine, a built-in numbing agent, for maximum comfort.
16. Will I experience swelling, bruising, or downtime afterwards?
Most patients experience minimal downtime. Mild swelling or bruising can occur, typically resolving within a few days. You’ll receive aftercare advice to help reduce these effects.
17. How do you handle touch-ups or corrections if needed?
A review appointment is always offered after treatment. If a touch-up or adjustment is needed, Austin will make it carefully to maintain balance and achieve your desired look safely.

THE MIND–MOUTH–BODY CONNECTION: The Missing Link in True Wellness
Medicine has gotten much better, but we often forget one of the most important facts about human health: the mind, mouth, and body are all connected and cannot be separated. They constantly interact with each other, shaping our health, strength, and quality of life.
Our minds control our thoughts, feelings, stress levels, and actions. If you have anxiety or sadness for prolonged periods or are stressed, hormones like cortisol cause inflammation. This inflammation will affect your immune system, increasing your risk of illness. These same stress-related behaviours often cause people to ignore their teeth, eat unhealthy foods, smoke, or grind them. These issues can be observed in the mouth long before a major medical diagnosis is made.
People often perceive the mouth as distinct from the rest of the body, yet it serves as the gateway to overall health. Gum disease has been associated with diabetes, heart disease, breathing problems, and difficult pregnancies. Bacteria from the mouth can get into the blood and impact important organs. A healthy mouth is more than just a smile; it’s a safe barrier and an early warning system.
Then, the body talks back to the brain. Nourishing your body with the right nutrients is important for your physical and mental health. Longterm pain or problems with digestion can make you more tired and upset. Mood illnesses and trouble thinking clearly can happen
if hormones are out of balance. What occurs in the body influences the mind.
When everything is in harmony, true health happens. A calm mind that feels encouraged leads to better self-care. Keeping your mouth healthy lowers the chance of disease and inflammation. A body that is well-fed and healthy helps keep health, energy, and clarity steady. Bringing these three elements into harmony not only prevents illness but also promotes energy, balance, longevity, well being and ultimately quality of life.
We need to change healthcare to consider how everything is connected, not just individual conditions. People aren’t divided into sections, so dentistry, medicine, psychology, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine must all work together. We at Privé Clinics are amongst the very few who can offer this service. Contact us at 020 7580 1610, or email us at smile@priveclinics.com.

6 ICONIC DINING CHAIRS THAT DESIGN DREAMS ARE MADE OF
What’s the most important element of the dining experience? The table? The chairs? The food we share? Or the people we enjoy it all with? We’d argue it’s a delicate balance of all four.
As we’re focusing on what we know best (and having already explored dining tables) we’ve pulled together a “save me a seat” shortlist of dining heroes to sink your teeth into. These are the designs that have you scrambling (pun intended) for an excuse to gather friends and family to the table. The sort of around-the-table action that would have even King Arthur browsing the menu for a longer stay.
So, feast your eyes, prepare your moodboards, and discover below 10 of the most iconic dining chairs that your home could have.
Eames Shell chair collection by Vitra:
When compiling a list of the most important interiors in history, a general rule of thumb is that if it was designed by Charles and Ray Eames, it usually makes the cut. From lounge chairs to wall racks, and even the occasional elephant, their work includes designs the world will never forget. In this case, the Eames Shell Chairs stand (or sit) as the very embodiment
BEETLE DINING CHAIR BY GUBI
BEETLE DINING CHAIR BY GUBI
SERIES 7 DINING CHAIR BY FRITZ HANSEN
of the mid-century dining setting: shapely, subtle, and suitable for almost any space. After all, there’s a reason Vitra continue to produce modern variations to this day.
CH24 Dining Chair by Carl Hansen:
The aptly named Wishbone Chair sits high on the wish lists of design enthusiasts the world over. Nearly 75 years ago, it debuted as an instant icon, marking the beginning of Hans J. Wegner’s legendary collaboration with the Scandinavian masters Carl Hansen & Søn. Crafted through more than 100 artisanal steps, the result is a serene and stylish piece that wouldn’t look out of place in the dining rooms of Nordhavn.
Tulip Dining Chair by Knoll:
A Knoll collection that needs no introduction by a designer of equal stature, Eero Saarinen’s Tulip Dining Chairs remain a timeless icon. Rooted in pure mid-century style and defined by generous sweeping curves, their sculptural pedestal base was Saarinen’s answer to what he called “the slum of legs” beneath the dining table. More than 65 years on, they endure as an award-winning, film-featured, retro-futuristic favourite.
Series 7 Dining Chair by Fritz Hansen:
As feats of invention go, 1955 was a golden year. Velcro was patented, the first microwave was introduced and, most importantly, Arne Jacobsen unveiled his magnum opus: the Series 7 Dining Chair. Unlike many of his other designs, it wasn’t created for a specific project, giving it a unique advantage: versatility. From the cosiest cottages to the grandest lecture halls of Oxford, Fritz Hansen’s finest remains an essential wherever Scandinavian design is celebrated.
Beetle Dining Chair by Gubi:
Much like the band, once Gubi’s Beetle Dining Chair was discovered by the design world, its popularity soared. A true line-blurrer, it transcends genres of interior design, adapting effortlessly to countless styles and settings. In our showroom, its many variations have been among the longest-standing features in an ever-evolving display. Why? First, because it works seamlessly with almost everything. And second, because ten years after GamFratesi first designed it, it remains exactly what furniture lovers want.
Masters Chair by Kartell:
Sometimes tributes to legends become themselves legend. This is true of the Kartell Masters Dining Chair. If this piece of furniture looks a little familiar that’s because you’ve already seen it. A monument to the classics of the design world, the seating solution is shaped from the silhouette’s of the aforementioned Series 7, Tulip & Shell Chairs. While inspired by timeless greats, Philippe Starck’s chair became its own design hero when winning a Red Dot award in 2013. chaplins.co.uk

Balancing Business, Motherhood, and Marriage: A WORKING
MUM’S JOURNEY IN INTERIOR DESIGN
Juggling motherhood, a growing business, and planning a wedding is not for the faint-hearted. As a working mum in the interior design industry, I find myself constantly balancing the demands of clients, family, and my own aspirations. There are days when I feel like I’m conquering the world and others when I wonder if I’m barely keeping my head above water. But through the chaos, I’ve learned that resilience, passion, and a solid support system are the key ingredients to making it all work.
After taking a step back from my business to focus on my family, I’m now rebuilding it with fresh energy and determination. Interior design is more than just a job for me; it’s an extension of who I am. The ability to transform spaces and bring a client’s vision to life is a privilege I never take for granted. However, growing a business, particularly in a competitive industry, is a challenge that requires both creativity and strategic planning. Some days, I’m sketching design concepts at the dining table while my daughter plays next to me; other days, I’m answering client emails in between wedding planning calls, in the office.
The journey hasn’t been without its struggles. Mum guilt is real – there are moments when I feel torn between deadlines and spending quality time with my daughter. The pressure to be everything to everyone can be overwhelming. But I’ve realised that perfection is a myth. Accepting that some days will be harder than others
has been freeing. I’ve also learned to embrace help – whether that means delegating business tasks, leaning on family for childcare, or simply taking a deep breath and letting go of things that aren’t urgent (this has particularly helped).
Planning a wedding amidst all this has added another layer of busyness, but it’s also been a beautiful reminder of what truly matters. Love, family, and the joy of creating a future together make every sleepless night and stressful moment worth it. The skills I use in interior design – organisation, attention to detail, and creativity –have come in handy in planning our big day.
For other working mums trying to do it all, my advice is this: give yourself grace. Success isn’t measured by having a perfectly curated life (especially when it looks like it on social media), but by finding fulfilment in the journey. Build a strong support network, set boundaries, and make time for yourself, even if it’s just a quiet cup of tea in the morning. Most importantly, celebrate the small wins –because every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory.
Life is a balancing act, and while it may never be perfect, it can still be beautiful. And at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters.”

IHEWN OUTDOORS: Made for Summer, Built for Winter
n the rolling landscapes of Devon, craftsmanship is more than a skill—it’s a legacy. At Hewn Outdoors, we’ve taken over a century of combined workshop experience and channelled it into something built to outlast seasons, trends, and the famously unpredictable British weather: solid oak outdoor kitchens, designed and made right here at home.
Our philosophy is simple. If an outdoor kitchen is going to live proudly in the open air, it must be as robust as it is beautiful. That’s why every Hewn Outdoors kitchen begins with sustainably sourced solid oak, shaped and finished by hand, and then paired with premium granite worktops and stainless-steel fixtures. These materials aren’t just chosen for their aesthetics—they’re selected for their ability to stand strong through rain, wind, frost, and every BBQ summer has to offer. “Made for Summer, Built for Winter” isn’t just our slogan; it’s our promise.
Understanding that every home—and every cook—is different, we’ve developed a flexible modular range that makes it easy to create a layout that suits your space. For those dreaming of something truly unique, our bespoke design service allows you to
bring your personalised outdoor culinary vision to life.
From workshop to garden, we manage every step. All units are delivered and fitted by our own team, ensuring the standards we uphold in the build continue through to installation. As fully trained and certified LPG appliance fitters, we don’t just drop off your kitchen—we make sure your BBQ is ready to fire up before we leave.
At our core, we’re a team that loves working with wood, loves the outdoors, and loves gathering with friends over good food. That passion is carved into every piece we make. With Hewn Outdoors, you’re not just investing in an outdoor kitchen—you’re choosing craftsmanship, durability, and a little slice of Devon’s natural beauty for your own garden.

THE ESSENCE OF LONDON
Captured in Candlelight
F20% OFF
rom the cobbled lanes of Whitechapel to the tree-lined calm of Belgravia, London holds a spirit unlike any other. At Connie Gray, we’ve captured that spirit in fragrance, blending craftsmanship, elegance, and a sense of place that feels deeply personal.
Each scent tells a story drawn from London’s most characterful neighbourhoods. Whitechapel brings the freshness of linen, inspired by the city’s historic washhouses. St. Katherine recalls the warmth
of the old tea docks with gentle notes of tea and spice. Richmond carries the airy lightness of the park in bloom, while Kew reflects the floral abundance of its famous gardens. Westminster adds depth and comfort through polished woods and soft leather, echoing the quiet grandeur of old chambers and libraries.
For those who prefer richness and warmth, Belgravia blends refined florals and subtle spice, evoking the elegance of London’s most distinguished homes. Each candle and diffuser is hand-poured in England using carefully selected ingredients, designed to fill your space with lasting, balanced scent.
This winter, the Connie Gray collection offers something truly special. Whether you choose a candle to create atmosphere, a diffuser to bring gentle scent through the home, or an Eau de Parfum to wear your favourite London moment, each piece makes the perfect luxury gift – for yourself or for someone deserving of something exceptional.
Every fragrance captures a side of London that endures: its heritage, its contrasts, its quiet sophistication. To give Connie Gray is to share that timeless sense of place and beauty, wrapped in the warmth of candlelight.

Amoment is fleeting, here then gone...but sometimes all you need is one good moment in a day to set you right. If it’s a moment that happens every day then maybe that moment is priceless.
Our design process can identify these moments that define and have the potential to uplift everyday life. Whether a moment that supports and underpins a busy and challenging life or a precious moment to come together as a family.
What value can you place on a moment?
At our Slot House project we reimagined a traditional floorplan of a 5 storey Georgian period property: considering location of spaces that could elevate these moments in the life of our clients: testing daylight paths, the position and angle of windows, the view across the garden. We proposed a dramatic double height space with vertical slot window overlooking the rear garden. This double height space connects an open kitchen and dining area on first floor with a lower ground snug / family space: meaning the family could stay connected when they were together.
The outcome is a home that connects various activities within the property and also allowed daylight to filter down to the naturally darker lower ground floor. This transformed the house into a space that supported the way they wanted to live. Although the home
was specifically designed for our clients through a deep and collaborative process - it is something that resonates and fits with other home owners and families alike.
As a result, it recently sold for more than double it’s bought price despite having less internal floor area, showing that a thoughtfully designed home can significantly enhance a property’s desirability and marketability. Whilst we know that homes are more than just a financial asset, through our 10+ years as a practice we have found that focusing on improving and uplifting moments can add value to properties as well as everyday lives.

The result is a collection that balances quiet elegance with bold statement-making.
Our designers have curated a palette of 21 colours, from timeless neutrals to waves of blue, green, and warm rust. FULHAM PIER: WHERE HERITAGE MEETS MODERN LUXURY
London’s riverside has gained a new jewel. The Riverside Stand and Fulham Pier are far more than architectural additions to Craven Cottage - they are a reinvention of what a football stadium can be. Interiors delivered by Stuart Forbes Associates, with Portview executing the intricate fit-out, this ambitious project transforms Fulham Football Club’s historic home into a year-round destination for culture, dining, and wellness.
At the heart of the vision lies placemaking: the idea that a stadium should serve its city beyond match days. The reopened Thames path, closed for over a century, now flows seamlessly between Putney and Hammersmith Bridges, animated by cafés, kiosks, and interactive art. Cantilevered decks hover over the water, while
reed beds soften the river’s edge, marrying ecology with elegance. It is a civic gift to London, restoring access to one of the capital’s most storied stretches of river.
Hospitality anchors the experience. Brasserie Constance, inspired by floral innovator Constance Spry, and Water’s Edge, with sweeping terraces over the Thames, elevate dining to Michelinstarred standards under chef Adam Byatt. These are not stadium restaurants, but destinations in their own right - places where tradition and modernity meet in exquisite taste.
The Lighthouse Social Members’ Club sets a new benchmark: the first of its kind within a Premier League stadium, and a first with a Crèche. Spanning three levels, capped by a rooftop pool and pergolas, it rivals London’s most prestigious private clubs. Inside, curated spaces - a cinema, library, conservatory, and River Baroffer distinctive atmospheres, each designed with character and sophistication.
Culture finds its stage in The Orange Box, a basement venue referencing Fulham’s 1896 stand. With retractable seating, a 10.8-metre LED wall, and professional-grade AV, it hosts conferences, screenings, and performances, ensuring Fulham Pier is woven into London’s cultural calendar. Meanwhile, a boutique hotel and spa provide sanctuary, with individually designed rooms and a penthouse suite finished in travertine, oak, and eglomisé mirrors. Material authenticity, heritage inspiration, and discreet technology underpin the design. Stuart Forbes Associates orchestrated over 50 collaborators to deliver a seamless blend of craftsmanship and innovation. The result is a global showcase: a stadium reborn as a civic destination, a cultural magnet, and a legacy of ambition on the Thames. stuartforbes.com info@stuartforbes.com (+44) 207 731 8111
OHRA DESIGN: A NEW ERA OF CREATIVE EXPANSION
Ohra Studio steps confidently into a new chapter, marked by growth, innovation, and a strengthened leadership team. With Zlata Rybchenko taking on the role of Creative Director and Keira Townsend joining as Project Director, the award-winning London-based studio reaffirms its commitment to designing spaces that embody individuality, craftsmanship, and emotional depth.
Together, Rybchenko and Townsend bring over three decades of international design experience, combining artistry and precision to lead Ohra Studio into a new era of creative expression and global presence.
A Vision Rooted in Individuality
From its very beginning,
Ohra Studio has stood for more than aesthetics—it has been about creating meaningful, timeless environments that reflect the soul of those who inhabit them. Now, under Zlata’s expanded creative direction, the studio is taking this philosophy even further, moving beyond interior design into furniture and product creation.
“This transition feels natural,” says Rybchenko.
“We’re entering a phase where exclusivity and individuality are not just aspirations but essential values. People want pieces that carry a sense of soul and craftsmanship, not fleeting trends.”
Keira Townsend Joins as Project Director
The arrival of Keira Townsend marks an important milestone in Ohra Studio’s evolution. Known for her meticulous approach and background in large-scale residential and commercial projects, Keira brings a refined sense of structure and execution to the studio’s artistic foundation.
“Joining Ohra Studio felt like a natural evolution,” Townsend explains. “Zlata’s approach to harmony, emotion, and precision resonates deeply with my own values. Together, we’re shaping a studio that’s both visionary and exacting—a place where creativity meets strategy.”
As Project Director, Townsend’s focus will be on transforming the studio’s creative concepts into impeccably executed realities, while supporting its growth into new markets. The partnership between Zlata and Keira creates a complementary dynamic— intuition and artistry meeting structure and precision.
Looking Ahead: The 2026 Vision
The coming year brings several exciting developments for Ohra Studio. At the heart of this new chapter is the launch of the studio’s own furniture collection, a long-held dream that unites the team’s 30 years of experience in design, architecture, and craftsmanship.
Each piece will embody the Ohra philosophy—sculptural, functional, and timeless—crafted in Europe using natural materials and produced in limited editions.
Alongside this, the studio is expanding internationally, with upcoming hospitality and residential projects across Europe and the Middle East, reflecting its signature balance between local heritage and modern sophistication.
Designing with Purpose
For Rybchenko and Townsend, the future of luxury design lies in authenticity and emotional connection. Their approach embraces craftsmanship, sustainability, and individuality—creating spaces that are deeply personal and built to last.
“True luxury today is individuality,” says Zlata. “Clients don’t want what others have—they want something that feels entirely their own.”
“Our clients seek stories, not styles,” adds Keira. “We design environments that reflect who they are, blending beauty with meaning and purpose.”
Intelligent Luxury: The Ohra Philosophy
In an era of conscious living, Ohra Studio champions what it calls “intelligent luxury”—design that combines emotional resonance with environmental responsibility. The studio’s work prioritizes sustainable materials, local artisanship, and longevity, offering
clients beauty that endures and evolves.
“The future is about intelligent design,” says Rybchenko. “Spaces should evoke emotion, use resources wisely, and make people feel grounded.”
The Power of Collaboration
The partnership between Zlata and Keira signals a defining moment for Ohra Studio. Their collaboration is built on trust, shared vision, and mutual respect, setting the tone for the studio’s next decade.
“We challenge each other to think beyond the ordinary,” Keira reflects.
“Together, we’re building not just a studio, but a philosophy,” adds Zlata.
With a clear direction, an expanded team, and a global outlook, Ohra Studio continues to embody its ethos - Timeless. Tailored. Thoughtful. ohrastudio.com
THE ARCHITECTURE OF WELLBEING
There is a quiet truth that every architect learns over time: the spaces we inhabit shape the rhythm of our lives.
A home is more than walls and finishes – it’s a living environment that influences how we feel, move, and connect. At Scheider Designers, our work begins not with a style, but with an understanding of how architecture can nurture wellbeing.
Wellbeing is not an aesthetic. It is found in the way morning light filters across a kitchen floor, in the calm created by natural materials, in the ease with which one room flows into another. When design honours these small, sensory moments, it supports a gentler, more harmonious way of living.
Our design philosophy is rooted in simplicity and craft. Every project begins with listening – to the building, to its setting, and to the people who will call it home. We look at how light travels through a space, how sound settles, how the proportions of a room affect comfort and focus. From there, architecture and interiors evolve together, creating homes that breathe, inspire, and restore.
In one recent project – a Victorian townhouse in west London –the brief was not simply to modernise, but to make the home feel better. By opening sightlines between rooms, introducing natural oak and stone, and framing the garden as a constant view, the atmosphere changed completely. The house became a sanctuary – elegant, functional, but above all, uplifting.
We believe the future of design lies not in spectacle, but in sensitivity. True luxury is not excess; it is the peace of a perfectly balanced home, designed with care and intention.
At Schneider Designers, our goal is to craft architecture that quietly enhances the quality of everyday life – spaces that make you breathe a little deeper, live a little slower, and feel truly at home. schneiderdesigners.co.uk

At Lethbridge Lines, we believe that everyone has the right to have beautiful handmade bespoke furniture made to exact specifications and tailored to meet the needs of individual lifestyles and the space available.
Established in 2005, we provide private clients, developers and designers with high-quality cabinetry and joinery services and we are commissioned to create a whole range of furniture including entertainment centres, wardrobes, intricate fitted shelves and storage systems, entire bathrooms and bespoke kitchens.
The process is simple, starting with a phone call to arrange the initial appointment. A specialist would then come to your house or site to discuss your needs and ideas for the design, before taking some measurements and assessing the space. There would undoubtedly be appliances that need to be accommodated and essential features specified, all of which would be taken into account. A design that fits the aesthetic, your needs and the timeline
is the goal, and you can be assured that the final result would be fitted and finished to the highest possible quality standards.
We have a team of specialists making, fitting and painting in our 5,000 square foot workshop, including one team member trained and experienced in spray finishing. We use only the highest quality woods and finishes and continue to invest in new methods, machinery and research to remain at the cutting edge. We are serious about beautiful and functional design, whether your choice is traditional or modern, and we would ensure that everything is up to our exacting standards, down to the smallest details such as drawers being engineered to close gently and quietly.
At our workshop or during the appointment, you would be able to select from our range of woods and materials as well as choose the best possible finish for your bespoke joinery, so that the look ties in perfectly with your house and style. Everything is made and finished in our workshop before it is brought to site to be fitted, providing a quality service with the minimum of disruption.

A BRITISH ICON, RE-IMAGINED FOR TODAY’S FAMILY KITCHEN:
Meet the new Classic & Classic Deluxe range cookers
Rangemaster, makers of the world’s first range cooker, has revealed upgraded Classic and Classic Deluxe models that bring together almost two centuries of British craftsmanship with the practicalities modern households demand. Manufactured at the company’s Royal Leamington Spa factory.
From the outside, the design remains reassuringly familiar, yet every line feels crisper: squared-edge doors and slimmer bezels frame larger baker-style windows, while a new white LED display keeps timings clear to see at a glance. Inside, a generous 80 litre fan oven partners with either a tall fan oven (90 cm & 100 cm) or a second full-size cavity (110 cm) – ideal for Sunday roasts, batch baking or family pizza night. Classic Deluxe steps up with an eightfunction multifunction oven that includes Duo for crisp pastry bases and Delicate
heat for gentle custards; the 110 cm version is available in offset configuration with proving drawer in the bottom-right cavity or base configuration, which boasts a slow cook cavity above the right-hand oven.
On the hob, choose between the familiar flame of gas burners with dual fuel or the instant, energy-efficient control of Rangemaster’s latest induction hob. A newly enlarged Flexi Grill slides out on telescopic runners, perfect for topped flatbreads or sizzling breakfast bacon, and touch-safe triple glazing keeps young hands protected.
Colour remains at the heart of the family’s appeal. The Classic offers four timeless shades – Pale Cream, Gloss Black, Misty Blue and rich Bordeaux. Classic Deluxe widens the palette to eight, adding Charcoal Black, Slate, Mineral Green, Stone Blue and elegant Heather, each available with either Chrome or Antique Brass trim. rangemaster.co.uk
