If you are experiencing any form of abuse or you’re unsure whether your partner’s behaviour qualifies as abuse, there are practical steps you can take according to B P Collins’ family team. These steps can help you, and those around you, better understand your situation and determine what support and safeguards may be put in place.
Start a diary
In many cases, domestic abuse and controlling or coercive behaviour are made up of small, repeated acts that may seem minor on their own, but are extremely harmful when taken together. Start keeping a diary to document incidents of concerning or abusive behaviour, even if they might seem minor to you now.
Record the date, time and as many accurate details as you can for each event. Try to be succinct but at the same time keep a record of the details and any evidence in support. Note also the impact of the particular incident on you and your children.
Share what you’ve written with someone you trust and ask for a second opinion.
It is very common for abusers to isolate their victims and make them fearful that they will not be believed. Even worse, it is common to convince their victim that they are actually the abuser in the situation. If you’re unsure whether what’s happening is abuse, or you are being gaslit into believing that you yourself might be acting in an abusive manner, talk to people that you trust and focus on how they respond over the words of your abuser.
People in abusive or controlling relationships are often slowly isolated not just from their friends but also their family. Reconnecting with people close to you not only takes away the abuser’s power, it can give you an incredibly valuable perspective.
If you don’t have someone you trust to share this with or don’t feel comfortable doing so, you can always speak to a family law solicitor. They have a duty of confidentiality to you so cannot share anything you tell them with anyone else unless you consent to it.
word
If you don’t feel ready to confront the abuse directly, make sure someone close to you understands your situation. Together, establish a code word or phrase that you can use if you need urgent help.
For example, you might agree to call and ask, “How was that new restaurant?” – a phrase that signals to your trusted person that you need them to come to you or take immediate action.
In addition to being fearful of repercussions, victims of abuse often feel ashamed and helpless, especially if their abuser has worn down their self-esteem or made them feel responsible for the situation, trauma bonded and co-dependent. This is a common tactic in abusive relationships.
It’s important to know that you are not alone, you are a victim, you do not deserve this and you are not to blame. Sadly, domestic abuse is increasingly common and can happen to anyone - regardless of age, gender, or background.
There’s no shame in seeking help. If you don’t feel comfortable going to the police or speaking to a solicitor, there are many charities and support organisations that offer free and confidential advice. A few examples are included below.
• Womens Aid
• Freephone National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge – 0808 2000 247 for free at any time, day or night. The staff will offer confidential, non-judgemental information and support.
Please speak to the family team at B P Collins today for personalised advice and support. You can get in touch by emailing enquiries@bpcollins.co.uk or call 01753 889995.

GRAYSON PERRY: ARE YOU GOOD?
Are You Good? A question that I think is fundamental to our humanity. In this show I will be helping you, the audience, find out if you really are thoroughly good or maybe quite evil, but in a fun way. I always start out with the assumption that people are born good and then life happens. So, let’s pull back the curtain and see where your morals truly lie. Are you as virtuous as you think? With lots of audience participation (don’t worry, no one leaves unscathed) and a few silly songs we’ll have an entertaining afternoon and come out with our core values completely in tatters. Is it more important to be good or to be right? It’s time to update what is a virtue and what is a sin. No biggie.

The decade of Cool Britannia, Britpop and unforgettable style and music 25 October 2025 – 22 February 2026
This autumn, Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury invites visitors on a vibrant journey back to the decade that brought us Pokémon, Power Rangers and dial-up internet with its new exhibition, I Grew Up 90s.
Running from 25 October 2025 to 22 February 2026, the exhibition brings together more than 200 iconic objects and artworks that bring the Nineties back to vivid life.
From Teletubbies to Trainspotting, Lara Croft to The Spice Girls, I Grew Up 90s celebrates a decade defined by creativity, optimism and unforgettable pop culture moments. Visitors can revisit toys, games, fashion, films, music and television shows that shaped a generation — and even test their skills on a retro arcade machine featuring classics like Tetris, Tekken, Street Fighter, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
The exhibition is curated by cultural historian and curator Matt Fox, capturing the sights, sounds and spirit of the 1990s.
“Those that grew up 30 years ago in the 1990s - before smart phones, social media or reality TV - can genuinely state that life was very different then.” Fox says, “I Grew Up 90s is a time capsule of that era, seen through the eyes of those who lived it as children and teenagers.”
Sam Mason, CEO of Discover Bucks Museum said, “It is delightful to be able to take a trip down memory lane, with artefacts that so many will remember. It is also a little scary to realise that many familiar items that we grew up with now belong on show in a museum! We hope those who remember the 90s will enjoy revelling in nostalgia and that those who don’t will come and experience a snapshot of life in the last millennium.”
The exhibition is a chance to relive playground crazes, rediscover music and TV milestones, and remember the moments that made the 90s unforgettable. Come and visit with the whole family and get ready to exclaim, “I remember that!”
I Grew Up 90s opens on Saturday 25 October 2025 and runs until Sunday 22 February 2026. For opening times, ticket prices and booking information visit discoverbucksmuseum.org

September is the ultimate harvest time for the English country larder and this particular year will show a bumper crop of apples and pears thanks to the perfect mix of lots of summer sunshine and a good amount of late rain.
Pears go together well with chocolate so for
this month’s recipe I have drawn upon a gear household staple a simple frangipane tart, once you have mastered this you can mix things up a little with different combinations such as cherry and chocolate, prune and Armagnac or apricot. I like to serve this delicious tart warm with a fitting ice cream with vanilla been a good all-round match.
Ingredients
Serves 6
Sweet Pastry
• 500g plain flour
• 1 tbsp icing sugar
• 250g diced butter
• Seeds of 1 vanilla pod
• 1 egg
• 1 tbsp milk
Method
Sweet Pastry
Frangipane mix
• 300g castor sugar
• 300g diced butter
• 3 egg yolks
• 3 whole eggs
• 300g ground almonds
• 60g plain flour
• 150g melted dark chocolate
• 2 tablespoons of good apricot jam
Mix soft butter with flour and icing sugar, add vanilla, egg and milk until bound, form into a ball cover with cling film and refrigerate.
Frangipane Mix
Cream butter and sugar, slowly add yolks and eggs and fold in the ground almonds, flour and chocolate.
Poached Pear
Combine all ingredients, warm in a small pan until clear, add the peeled pear and poach gently for 20 minutes. Leave to cool and then slice into quarters and remove the core.
To put together
Line an oiled 20cm tart case with sweet pastry spread the bottom with the apricot jam, spoon in the frangipane mix and lay the sliced, quartered pears on top. Bake at Gas Mark 4 (180C) and bake for approx. 25 minutes until golden.
To Serve
Serve a slice of the warm frangipane tart and serve with a generous scoop of the vanilla ice cream.
Poached pear
• 500ml water
• 400g castor sugar
• 1 star anise
• 1 split vanilla pod
• Juice ½ lemon
• 6 coriander seeds
• 1 small cinnamon stick
• 3 large peeled conference pears
Sommelier’s Choice
Serve this frangipane tart with a good measure of iced frangelico to accompany or alternatively Vinsanto, a wine lovingly made from white grapes collected at the beginning of the harvest, with a bouquet reminiscent of flowers and honey, which is full bodied and sweet, with delightful complexities, and a long-lasting finish with nutty overtones..

In the Maldives, no two islands are ever quite the same, and Sun Siyam’s collection proves it best. Among its jewels are two standouts:
Sun Siyam Iru Fushi in the Noonu Atoll and Sun Siyam Olhuveli in the South Malé Atoll, each offering a distinct take on the ultimate island escape. Together, they showcase the Maldives in all its contrasts: the meditative hush of untouched lagoons and the spirited rhythm of water sports and beachside gatherings. Whether you dream of mornings spent barefoot on deserted sandbanks or afternoons kitesurfing across glittering waters, these two resorts invite you to write your own Maldivian story. Let’s explore each resort for what it does best.
Nestled in the heart of the Maldives’ Noonu Atoll, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi offers a sophisticated blend of barefoot luxury and Maldivian charm. The island is a lush, 21-hectare expanse where whitesand beaches meet crystalline waters, and every path seems to lead to a postcard view. Its villas are ranging from romantic overwater sanctuaries to spacious beachfront retreats. The resort’s 8 dining options ensure culinary exploration is as much a part of the journey as the scenery, with highlights including Japanese teppanyaki under the stars and fine dining beside the lagoon.
Iru Fushi is a haven for travellers seeking an immersive yet tranquil escape. Couples can indulge in the award-winning Spa by Thalgo and private dinners on the sandbank, while families will find the Kids’ Club and shallow lagoons ideal for younger explorers. For the active, there’s
world-class diving at nearby reef sites and guided snorkelling to discover vibrant marine life. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, making it equally appealing for honeymooners, multi-generational trips, and travellers who appreciate a slower, more considered pace in paradise.
Spread across multiple islands in the South Malé Atoll, Sun Siyam Olhuveli is a vivid, more energetic counterpart to Iru Fushi’s calm. Here, overwater villas stretch elegantly into turquoise waters, while beachside suites open onto stretches of sand that invite both relaxation and play. With 13 bars and restaurants, guests can sample everything from fresh Maldivian seafood to Mediterranean-inspired plates, all framed by uninterrupted ocean views.
Olhuveli thrives on variety and activity. It’s particularly well-suited to travellers who enjoy a balance of relaxation and adventure: activities such as sunrise yoga followed by kitesurfing, or dip in the pool (longest in the Maldives) then take a dolphin spotting cruise. The lagoon is a natural playground for paddleboarding, jet skiing, and snorkelling, while two spas offer serene treatments to unwind after the day’s excitement. Families are well-catered for with connecting pavillions and dedicated children’s activities, yet couples will find private dining spots and quiet beaches that feel worlds away.
Whether you’re chasing serene seclusion or vibrant island energy, these sister resorts promise the quintessential Maldivian escape, each with its own distinctive rhythm. trailfinders.com

Surrogacy arrangements are becoming increasingly popular in the UK as an alternative route to parenthood, with 2,463 parental orders granted in England and Wales for surrogacy arrangements between 2017 and 2022. Despite the rise, the legal aspect of these arrangements is often not well understood by intended parents as they start their journey.
Under UK law, the baby’s birth mother will be treated as the legal mother, so the surrogate will always be treated as the legal mother of the baby. In addition, if the surrogate is married at the point of conception, their spouse will automatically be legally recognised as the baby’s second legal parent.
Some intended parents attempt to circumvent this by drawing up a surrogacy agreement to ensure that the intended parents are legally recognised as the baby’s parents (and that the surrogate is not). However, such agreements are not legally recognised by the UK Courts, and many people do not realise that it is a criminal offence to provide certain professional services such as negotiating or drafting a surrogacy agreement, on a commercial basis.
Many intended parents opt to enter into a surrogacy agreement abroad in countries where such agreements are legally recognised, such as the USA and Canada. However, even if the agreement has been legally entered into in another country, it will not be recognised by the UK Courts when the family return to the UK.
In order for intended parents to be granted the appropriate rights, and to extinguish the rights of the surrogate, they must obtain a Parental Order from the Court, to ensure that the intended parents are legally recognised as the baby’s parents, and have appropriate parental responsibility and to legalise the relationship for other purposes such as inheritance planning, and to ensure that the surrogate does not have ongoing rights or responsibilities.
For advice on assisted conception and surrogacy law, speak to the experts at KJ Smith Solicitors. Get in touch today to book your free consultation, contact us at beaconsfield@kjsmith.co.uk or marlow@kjsmith.co.uk or call on 01494 629000.
3 key reasons to consider consolidating your pensions, and how financial advice can help.
If you are planning for your retirement and have already accumulated several pensions (maybe from previous employments), you might want to consider combining them into one suitable plan – a process called “consolidation”.
Here are just three reasons why it might be worth considering.
1. Your savings will be easier to manage
Having all your savings in one pension means you’ll know how much you have at a glance. Additionally, there’s less chance of losing or forgetting about funds, so you’ll be able to make full use of all your savings in retirement.
2. You could achieve better investment performance
Your pension savings are usually invested, with investment decisions made by either the pension provider, you, or a third party such as a financial adviser.
The investment funds being used in your old plans may no longer be suitable and investment performance may be suffering. So, by consolidating them, you can choose the scheme with investments most suitable for your needs and risk tolerance. You might also benefit from higher compound returns.
3. You could pay lower fees
Pension providers charge varying fees. You could consolidate all your funds into a single scheme with a competitive charging structure.
Speak to an adviser before you consolidate your pensions
Before you act, remember that consolidation may not be right for you. When consolidating, you might lose valuable benefits, such as a guaranteed income for life or an enhanced tax-free lump sum. So, it’s worth speaking to a professional to ensure that consolidating your pensions is a sensible decision.
AGILITY Financial Advisers is your local independent financial advice firm. Our friendly team can help you manage your pensions so you can focus on enjoying your retirement.

“Having all your savings in one pension means you’ll know how much you have at a glance.”
Family separation can be difficult for everyone involved, especially children. In some families, children may become reluctant or refuse to see one of their parents. Sometimes this is based on their own experiences or feelings. In other cases, a parent may influence the child, consciously or unconsciously, by speaking negatively about the other parent or making them feel guilty for wanting a relationship with them. This is known as alienating behaviour.
The Family Justice Council (FJC) has recently published guidance to help courts and professionals respond to cases where alienation is alleged. Its focus is on ensuring that decisions are made carefully and with the child’s welfare at the centre.
Alienating behaviour can take many forms. It may include criticising the other parent in front of the child, restricting or controlling contact, or pressuring the child to take sides. These actions can damage the child’s ability to have a healthy relationship with both parents.
It is important to remember, however, that not all situations where a child resists contact involve alienation. A child may have valid reasons for not wanting to see a parent, such as exposure to conflict, poor parenting, or even direct harm. The court’s role is to look behind the behaviour and understand the reasons.
do the courts approach these cases?
The new FJC guidance stresses the need for careful assessment. Judges should avoid applying labels too quickly. Instead, they must look at the evidence, hear the child’s voice, and consider the wider context of the family.
Courts may look at:
• The child’s wishes and feelings, depending on their age and maturity.
• The history of the parents’ relationship and any past concerns.
• Evidence of abuse, neglect, or other safeguarding risks.
• Professional assessments from social workers or psychologists. There is no fixed test for alienation. Each case is different, and the welfare of the child remains the guiding principle.
Allegations of alienation can be distressing for both parents. A parent who feels excluded from their child’s life may feel frustrated and powerless. The parent accused of alienation may feel unfairly blamed. The FJC reminds us that the court’s task is not to punish parents but to protect the child and support safe, positive family relationships.
Solutions can include therapeutic support, parenting programmes, or carefully managed contact arrangements, depending on the needs of the child.
If you are experiencing difficulties around contact, there are steps you can take:
• Keep children out of adult disputes wherever possible.
• Encourage your child to feel free to spend time with both parents.
• Seek advice early if you are worried about resistance or conflict.
• Keep clear records of arrangements and communications.
Alienating behaviour is complex, and every case is unique. What matters most is that children are not caught in the middle of disputes and that their wellbeing comes first.
At Blaser Mills, our family team can advise you if you are concerned about contact, resistance, or allegations of alienation. We provide clear and practical guidance tailored to your circumstances. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your situation in confidence.

A solicitor is a legal professional who provides advice, drafts documents, and represents clients in legal matters. While many may attempt to handle legal issues independently, there are several key advantages to hiring a solicitor.
Firstly, solicitors bring a wealth of legal knowledge and expertise. Laws can be complex and ever-changing, making it difficult for individuals without legal training to navigate them effectively. Solicitors are well-versed in relevant legislation, case law, and legal procedures, allowing them to offer accurate and reliable advice tailored to your situation. Their knowledge helps ensure that you don’t miss critical details that could jeopardise your case or legal standing.
Secondly, a solicitor can help you avoid costly mistakes. Legal errors, such as missing deadlines or failing to follow proper procedures, can have serious consequences, including the dismissal of a case or the loss of a legal right. With a solicitor’s assistance, you are more likely to meet all necessary legal requirements, helping you to avoid unnecessary expenses or setbacks in the future.
Moreover, solicitors have experience in negotiation and dispute resolution. Whether you are buying property, resolving a family matter, or engaged in business dealings, a solicitor can represent your interests and negotiate on your behalf. Their experience in handling negotiations can often result in more favourable outcomes, whether through settlement, mediation, or court proceedings.

Additionally, solicitors offer peace of mind. Legal matters can be stressful, and knowing that a professional is handling the situation reduces anxiety and ensures that you have the right guidance at every step. The ability to trust someone with the intricacies of your case allows you to focus on other important aspects of your life or business. In conclusion, using a solicitor offers numerous advantages, from expert legal advice to better negotiation outcomes and protection from costly errors. Their role is crucial in navigating the oftencomplicated legal landscape, making them an invaluable resource when legal matters arise.
When it comes to mortgages, there’s no shortage of questions — and with so much information out there, it can feel overwhelming.
Gavin Ross, an Independent Mortgage Adviser at KDW Financial Planning, answers some of the most common concerns homebuyers have today.
Q: How much can I really afford to borrow?
A: It’s not just about what the bank says you can borrow — it’s about what feels comfortable for your lifestyle. I help clients look beyond the numbers and factor in things like family costs, savings goals, and unexpected expenses, so the mortgage fits their life, not just their credit score.
Q: Can remortgaging really save me money?
A: Absolutely. Even a small reduction in your interest rate can mean thousands saved over the life of your mortgage. I always run the numbers with clients to show the potential savings versus any fees, so they know if it’s genuinely worth switching.
Q: Why use a mortgage adviser instead of just going to my bank?
A: Banks only offer their own products. As an independent adviser, I have access to a wide range of lenders and products — which means I can find the mortgage that truly fits your needs. Plus, I take the time to explain everything clearly, so you can make confident, informed decisions.
Q: What’s your best advice for someone starting the process?
A: Don’t wait until you’ve found a property. The earlier you speak to an adviser, the more prepared you’ll be. Getting pre-approved gives you a clear budget and puts you in a stronger position when you make an offer.
A mortgage isn’t just a loan — it’s the foundation of your home and financial future. My role is to take the stress out of the process, answer your questions, and make sure you feel supported every step of the way. I’m based in Tring, so why not arrange a chat to see how I can help?

At Pipers, being an all-girls school is more than just part of our identity – it’s one of our greatest strengths. Every girl is supported to fulfil their academic and personal potential, not limited by outdated gender stereotypes or societal expectations.
Girls at all-girls schools consistently outperform their co-ed peers academically, but there’s more to it than just exam results. Research from the Programme for International Student Assessment highlights that girls in single-sex schools have higher self-confidence and emotional intelligence, worry less about failure and embrace competition more readily. They set clearer goals, have higher aspirations and – perhaps most importantly – feel a greater sense of belonging.
This is certainly the case at Pipers. We are a school of individuals and there is no ‘typical’ Pipers student. Student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, with an integrated provision supported by a dedicated Head of Wellbeing.
Our ethos of empowerment was perfectly captured in our four sold-out productions of SIX,
which centred on the women in Henry VIII’s life. The show affirmed that their voices and stories were just as significant as his. Similarly, at Pipers, we emphasise that every girl’s voice is as important as anyone else’s – whether on stage, in the classroom or beyond. No one is silenced, and no one fades into the background.
Unlike highly-selective schools, Pipers doesn’t have narrow entrance requirements yet our students’ results are comparable to those of the county’s most selective institutions. Everyday our expert teachers create an inspiring and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to thrive, whilst never being afraid to fail. Our commitment to academic rigour is balanced with an emphasis on building resilience and self-esteem. This means students are happy learners and our holistic approach prepares students to succeed in every aspect of life.
At Pipers, we are proud to be an all-girls school and we are preparing our students for a future where they know their voices matter. Here, every student is always moving forward.
Come and see for yourself what makes Pipers extraordinary.

access to exceptionally high-quality coaching, outstanding facilities and a broad range of opportunities to relish enjoyment through sport. The Arts have a big place too; over 180 individual instrumental music lessons and 120 LAMDA tuition sessions are timetabled weekly.
We’ve come to the end of the first academic year with Day Plus as an option for our Year 7s, with both Year 7 and Year 8 having complete freedom over the amount they board since September 2025. It’s been a great success, with parents commenting on how much they have enjoyed the flexibility. Still advocates of boarding, Caldicott appreciates the individualised needs of each child and the fact that boarding may just not be right for some boys. Flexi boarding is available from as early as Year 3 for those keen boys who want to make the most of the ever-popular evening activities programme.

Beacon Boys take to the stage with Sister Act Jr. at Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Twenty-five dedicated Years 7 & 8 pupils from The Beacon School in Amersham took their talents to the international stage, performing the high-energy musical Sister Act Jr. at the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe — the largest arts festival in the world.
Over the past academic year, the boys have worked tirelessly to bring the production to life. Supported by the school’s Performing Arts department and a dedicated costume team of mums, the cast spent countless hours learning lines, rehearsing choreography, fine-tuning musical numbers, and developing their acting skills.
The story of Sister Act Jr. follows Deloris Van Cartier, a singer who witnesses a crime committed by her boyfriend and is placed in protective custody within a convent. Despite her originally struggling to adjust to the strict lifestyle of the religious community, she eventually finds purpose and connection when she begins to lead the convent’s struggling choir.
The cast debuted their production with two performances at The Spinney Theatre at The Beacon, where the local community shows were met with great enthusiasm from parents, pupils, staff, and friends of the school. This served as the perfect send-off before the group travelled to Edinburgh the following day.
The Show Director and Head of Drama at The Beacon, Zenelle Oosthuizen, says, “The company have stepped it up every day; from flyering on the royal mile with perseverance, to delivering six sold-out performances! We are incredibly proud of these boys.”
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, held every August in Scotland’s capital, is celebrated as the largest arts festival in the world. With thousands of performances within theatre, comedy, music, dance and more taking place. The Fringe offered The Beacon Boys a unique opportunity to perform in front of a new audience performing over six consecutive days on an international stage.
The Beacon is a leading Prep School for boys aged 3–13 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. It prides itself on delivering best-in-class education in an enriching and enlightening environment. With small class sizes, exceptional specialist teaching and a strong pastoral focus, the school offers a broad and balanced education with a cross-curricular approach. Pupils thrive in academics, sport, music, drama, and the creative arts, supported by outstanding facilities and a culture rooted in kindness.

The past academic year at RMS for Girls has been marked by exceptional achievements across academics, co-curricular pursuits, and community life.
Our pupils once again excelled academically, with the 2025 GCSE results hailed as “the best yet.” This is a reflection of their dedication and the school’s commitment to nurturing intellectual curiosity. Beyond the classroom, pupils have distinguished themselves on national and global stages. At the Cambridge Model United Nations, RMS delegates secured an outstanding seven awards, showcasing not only their debating prowess but also their ability to engage thoughtfully with global issues. Creativity also flourished, with RMS named Best UK School in the international Sketch for Survival Junior competition.
Innovation and inspiration ran through the year. We were proud to host the Thriving Minds Conference in partnership with Felsted, giving scholars the chance to connect through academic challenge and enrichment. The launch of our school podcast, Stirred by the Sun, was equally forwardlooking, providing a platform for student voices to explore themes of identity, resilience, and ambition.
Community and inclusion are at the heart of our school. We have a thriving boarding community that embraces many different cultures. This year, students, parents, and staff have celebrated a wide variety of events, including Nine Lessons and Carols at Christmas, a whole-school recognition of the Chinese New Year, our first community Iftar during Ramadan, and a celebration organised by Year 7 students to mark the Bar Mitzvah of three of their peers.
Our commitment to global citizenship also shone brightly. Pupils earned recognition at the Wings of Hope Achievement Awards for their charity projects, and our sustainability efforts were once again honoured with the EcoSchools Green Flag. We were further inspired by alumnae, including fashion entrepreneur Jade Goulden, founder of Jaded London, and Barbara Mills KC, who made history as the first Black Chair of the Bar Council.
As we look to the year ahead, we are excited to build on these successes. With new opportunities in the arts, global partnerships, and academic enrichment, RMS for Girls remains committed to empowering every pupil to thrive.

Merchant Taylors’ Prep School, set in 15 acres of leafy grounds in Northwood, delivers the best of both worlds: a strong academic tradition with an extensive range of co-curricular and sporting activities. Located just minutes from Merchant Taylors’ senior school, it provides an excellent all-through option for high-achieving pupils.
The new Head, Miles Chester, who joined in September, brings extensive experience and a fresh, dynamic approach to the school. He is proud of the prep school’s quality of teaching and the holistic education it offers. “Through an enriched curriculum, we foster every opportunity for pupils to develop their individual potential, nurturing their unique passions, interests and aspirations. The foundation we provide ensures they are equipped with the skills and confidence to transition seamlessly to senior school,” said Mr. Chester.
The focus on the individual pupil is central to the Taylors’ ethos. From the very beginning, teachers take the time to get to know each pupil and their abilities, within a small-class setting. This allows enquiring minds to develop in an
environment where each pupil is given a sense of belonging that helps them to achieve.
Through an extensive programme of extracurricular clubs and activities, boys are encouraged to try new things and explore their talents and creativity. The school uses sport to reinforce its ethos and to instil discipline, teamwork, fair play, responsibility and respect.
Having the senior school nearby offers numerous opportunities for collaboration, particularly in sports, music and academics. With pupils now transitioning to senior school at the end of Year 6, the school is expanding its intake for Year 3 from September 2026. “This is a great opportunity for able pupils with potential to join our school and benefit from a well-balanced education and smooth transition to the senior school”, Mr Chester added.

Childhood is a precious time – a chapter that should be nurtured, celebrated, and filled with opportunity. At Westbrook Hay, we want these years to be among the very best in your child’s life.
For us, “the best” is built on four foundations: a caring ethos, academic ambition, a broad curriculum and a fabulous setting. Together, they create an environment where children are happy, confident, successful and well prepared for their future.
Our caring ethos lies at the heart of all we do. When children feel supported and valued, they are eager to learn and ready to grow. With

encouragement and guidance, they develop not only knowledge, but also the character and values that last a lifetime.
We pair this with academic ambition. Learning is central to life at Westbrook Hay, and our pupils are challenged to think deeply, work hard, and achieve their very best. Success in the classroom builds confidence, and that confidence gives them the courage to aim even higher. Our state of the art facilities support this.
Our broad curriculum ensures that every child can find their passion. From sport to music, drama to art, science to technology, we give children the chance to shine in many arenas –nurturing their talents and broadening their horizons.
Finally, our fabulous setting enhances this experience. With 26 acres of fields and woodland, pupils enjoy the freedom to run, climb, explore, and play – all within a beautiful countryside environment just minutes from town. We believe childhood should be active, adventurous, and filled with the joy of discovery (and sometimes muddy shoes!).
Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions a parent will make. It is about finding a place where your child will be cared for, inspired, and stretched to reach their potential. We warmly invite you to visit us and discover why so many families choose Westbrook Hay as their first choice of school.

It’s a common and often frustrating situation for parents of new UK graduates. The job market is hyper-competitive, and while parents often see career coaching as a clear solution, their son or daughter may resist the help. The reasons for this reluctance are complex and often rooted in psychology.
Why graduates are sometimes reluctant to accept the need for coaching
• A Desire for Independence and Autonomy
• Graduates are at a stage in life where they are seeking to establish their own adult identity. Accepting a coach—especially one found or paid for by their parents—can feel like an admission of failure or a step backward into a dependent role. They want to prove they can succeed on their own terms.
• Perception of Coaching as Unnecessary or Irrelevant
• Many graduates believe their degree should be enough to land a job. They may feel they already have the necessary skills and are simply facing a tough market.
• A Mismatch in Communication Style
• The way a parent offers help can sometimes feel like a directive or an order, rather than a supportive suggestion. This can trigger a defensive reaction, as the young adult may feel you’re implying they aren’t capable of handling their own job search.
• Social Stigma and Pride
• There can be a sense of shame or embarrassment in admitting you need help, especially for a generation that is highly connected on social media.
How Parents Can Persuade Them
The key is to shift from a directive, problem-solving approach to a supportive, collaborative one.
• Shift from “You Need a Coach” to “Here’s a Resource.”
• Instead of presenting the idea as a personal failing, frame it as a helpful tool. Say something like, “I know the job market is really tough right now.
I’m not sure if it’s the right fit, but I thought it might be worth a look.”
• Respect Their Independence
• Emphasize that the decision is ultimately theirs. Let them know you are there to support them in any way they choose. This shows respect for their adult status and reduces the likelihood of them feeling controlled.
• Highlight the Practical Benefits
• Frame coaching not as a sign of weakness, but as a strategic advantage. You could say, “Coaches are really good at helping people get through AI-powered CV scanners and practise for video interviews.”
We help graduates every step of the way, and we are the UK’s numberone coaching company.

How much is it worth to lose your back pain?
That’s an intriguing question, isn’t it?
Many would pay a small fortune if they knew for certain that a solution would finally work. According to ergonomic experts at Back In Action, over 80% of their clients experience youthful movement again, with less pain, enabling them to continue with work and enjoy their favourite sports.
Over 80% is quite a claim, but customers have voted them Number One in the UK for four consecutive years. As a family business, they take immense pride in this achievement. If you suffer from back pain, it’s time to visit their website or one of their stores.
Founder David Newbound notes that many clients arrive at Back In Action having lost hope of permanent relief.
Carefully chosen and high-quality kneeling chairs can help alleviate back pain
“Most pain can be fixed by rest and skilled treatment,” David explains. “However, we often see clients who have been referred by practitioners when progress has stalled. They may have tried various treatments, painkillers, and even switched mattresses, yet they still suffer pain and feel increasingly demoralised.”
Spend a little, gain a lot?
Many clients find themselves surprised by the aesthetic appeal of Back In Action’s showrooms, resembling design-led furniture stores. This is intentional: Back In Action sources designs that are both functional and beautiful. They believe that furniture should enhance any home or office without compromising style.
Where do the health benefits come from?
With a name like Back In Action, it’s no surprise they emphasise movement—getting your spine moving and getting you and your back back into action. The health benefits stem from promoting movement that keeps blood circulating, even while sitting. This can lead to a positive feedback loop of decreased pain and increased activity.
A solution for everyone
Think your spine is beyond help? Back In Action has developed an innovative method to rejuvenate spinal movement: The Mobiliser. It has gained MOD medical approval and received accolades from thousands who claim it has transformed their lives. A test session is free, and they offer “Spine Reset Packages” for home that are affordable for most people.
Back in Action has four retail stores, Amersham Marlow London and Bristol backinaction.co.uk

Chiltern Hospital part of Circle Health Group
I am Professor Bhupinder S Mann, a joint reconstruction surgeon based at the Chiltern Hospital in Great Missenden.
Knee pain is a common yet complex condition, often rooted in degenerative joint disease. As cartilage deteriorates, bone becomes exposed, leading to discomfort, stiffness, and reduced mobility. For many, this gradual decline affects not only movement but also quality of life—impacting sleep, independence, and confidence.
For patients suffering from end-stage degenerative joint disease, total knee replacement is a well-established solution. This intervention removes the damaged bone and cartilage and replaces them with metal implants and highly cross-linked polyethylene. While effective, knee replacements have historically delivered slightly lower satisfaction scores compared to hip replacements.
That is where robotic-assisted surgery is changing the game.
It is crucial to recognise that each knee is unique, and each patient has their own walking pattern. Even within the same patient, the right knee may
differ from the left in terms of bone morphology and soft tissue tone. Traditional surgery relies heavily on the surgeon’s experience, but now, robotic technology is adding a new layer of precision.
At Chiltern Hospital, we use VELYS™ roboticassisted technology, which provides real-time evaluations of patient-specific anatomical features, and allows surgeons to gather individualised knee-specific data regarding soft tissue and bone. This means we can tailor the procedure to the individual, using data to guide decisions on component sizing, positioning, and alignment.
Once the individual specific bony and soft tissue structures have been registered, the surgeon uses a simulator for optimal component sizing and positioning, thereby optimizing gaps, balancing, and selecting the preferred patient specific alignment strategy.
When the surgeon establishes a plan for component orientation and alignment, executing that plan with VELYS™ robotic-assisted technology allows for exceptionally precise and accurate bony cuts. A digitally supported trial is conducted prior to the fixation of definitive components.
In summary, while nothing replaces the skill and judgment of an experienced surgeon, VELYS™ robotic-assisted knee surgery is enhancing the collection of individualised real-time data points. This information informs the surgeon in crafting an intraoperative plan that is executed with laser like precision by the robotic arm.
VELYS™ ROBOTIC-ASSISTED KNEE SURGERY
If you’re suffering with chronic knee pain you may benefit from a robotic-assisted total knee replacement, to get you back doing the things you love quickly.
At Chiltern Hospital we offer VELYS™ robotic-assisted surgery, where consultants perform tailored, total knee replacements with optimum outcomes for our patients.
If you’d like to find out more about robotic-assisted knee surgery and the benefits, scan the QR code or visit www.circlehealthgroup.co.uk/treatments/velys-robotic-assisted-knee-surgery
by Richa Puri, Functional Medicine Practitioner & Prescribing Pharmacist at Seed Wellness
At Seed Wellness, we believe true health goes beyond simply treating symptoms. Increasingly, people are turning to functional medicine – a science-led, personalised approach that seeks to uncover the root causes of illness, rather than applying a “one-size-fits-all” solution.
Unlike conventional medicine, which often focuses on managing symptoms with medication, functional medicine looks at the whole person. It considers genetics, lifestyle, environment, nutrition, sleep, stress, and emotional wellbeing as interconnected pieces of the same puzzle. By joining the dots between these areas, functional medicine creates a tailored plan designed to support the body’s natural ability to heal and thrive.
body-identical hormone therapy, I offer tailored solutions that address the why behind symptoms – helping women feel balanced, energised, and in control of their health.
Supporting Men’s Health
Men, too, benefit greatly from this approach. Stress, poor sleep, fatigue, and declining testosterone can affect both wellbeing and performance. Through targeted testing and personalised plans, I help men understand the root causes of their symptoms and support them in restoring health, vitality, and resilience.
The Future of Wellness
One of the cornerstones of functional medicine is advanced testing. Going beyond routine blood work, functional tests can assess gut health, hormone balance, nutrient status, thyroid function, and even stress hormones. This allows me to identify hidden imbalances that may be driving symptoms such as fatigue, low mood, weight gain, or fertility challenges. With this knowledge, I create personalised health strategies that are both targeted and effective.
With 20 years’ experience as a prescribing pharmacist, nutritional therapist, and functional medicine practitioner, I specialise in women’s health and hormones. I support women at every stage of life – from menstrual health and PCOS, through fertility and pregnancy, to perimenopause and menopause. Many of my clients come to me after feeling unheard in conventional healthcare settings. By combining functional testing, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and, where appropriate,
Functional medicine is not about replacing conventional healthcare but complementing it. My integrative approach combines the best of both worlds – conventional medical expertise and cutting-edge functional strategies – to help clients achieve long-term health and wellbeing. I feel honoured to support individuals on this journey – empowering them to unlock the energy, balance, and vitality they need to thrive.

– Keep it local for everything house and home –
Food is the universal language of the world, and the table we gather around is its place of translation. A dining space that allows for expression and carries its own story transforms a room from being simply a place to eat into the beating heart of the home. Memories are both made and recalled here, where plates, and passions, are shared. It embodies all the defining characteristics of what we call home.
TAKE YOUR SEAT AND EXPLORE THE VERY TOP OF TABLETOPS IN OUR DINING GUIDE:
Saarinen Dining Table, Knoll (above)
Like a great many things in that magical period of mid-century design, the Saarinen table was masterminded by the Finnish virtuoso Eero Saarinen. Why is it recognisable? Well, because the likelihood is, no matter your level of furniture knowledge, you have seen it before. It has appeared on both the big and small screen, in media old and new, making it a symbol that represents an entire era of design to millions. The piece has been under the stewardship of Knoll since its inception, founded by his longtime collaborator Florence.
Epic Dining Table:
Epic by name, epic by nature. A monumental mass of marble that wouldn’t be out of place in ancient Greek myth, Gubi’s monolithic masterpiece combines a stylish Scandi palette with geometric angles embodied in soulful Italian stone. Designed by GamFratesi, the dining table has proven so popular that it recently gained a debonair dark green outdoor iteration.

BM1160 Dining Table, Carl Hansen & Søn:
As you’re no doubt aware the 1950s were revolutionary for dining and design in general. Nowhere is this more evident than on the shores of Scandinavia. Danish designer Børge Mogensen’s Hunting Table emerged as one of the standout creations of this Northern European creative explosion. His masterful carpentry, paired with his ethos of making design accessible to all, gave rise to one of Carl Hansen & Søn’s most beloved dining tables: the BM1160 Hunting table.
The Infinity table by Porada achieves something many find difficult: it takes materials synonymous with sturdiness and strength and sculpts them into sweeping lines and supple shapes, executed with such precision that they appear almost like a natural occurrence within the timber. It’s little wonder that this design has become Porada’s flagship dining solution and one of Stefano Bigi’s finest works.
Clay Dining Table, Desalto:
Harmony and balance are hard to achieve, especially in the home. Yet in our eyes the embodiment of a Feng Shui space can be found in the structural marvel that is the Clay table by Desalto, with a connecting point so finely poised it feels as though it defies the very laws of physics. Topped with a natural surface and true-to-name clay texturing, it is one of those rare visual dining delights. We aren’t the only ones that took a particular shine to this piece, upon its release it immediately became an award-winning design at multiple shows including ‘Iconic Design’ and the ‘Red Dot Awards.’
“It immediately became an awardwinning design at multiple shows including ‘Iconic Design’ and the ‘Red Dot Awards”
EM Dining Table, Vitra:
Another in a long line of mid-century masterpieces, Jean Prouvé’s EM Table is a versatile design that elevates any setting it graces. Subtle yet strong. Stylish yet striking. Just as at home in a contemporary Italian interior as it is in a Scandinavian one, it embodies the timeless adaptability found in so many of Vitra’s creations – the ultimate in multi-faceted design. chaplins.co.uk

As 2026 approaches, colour remains a vital tool for expressing mood, personality, and intention in home interiors.
This year, design embraces harmony - soft warmth meets quiet drama, natural tones are elevated, and bold accents return with renewed confidence.
In its latest blog, Wallsauce forecasts that the move away from neutrals will continue in 2026 as more of us embrace colour.
Here’s what to expect in the year ahead for home design colour trends…
Poppy Red is a vibrant, retro-inspired colour that commands attention and injects energy into any space, from home offices to kitchens. Bold yet versatile, it works beautifully with soft pinks, olive greens, or monochrome accents to create playful or sleek interiors.
Velvet Plum is a rich, romantic purple that adds drama and personality, perfectly suited to the moody interiors trending in 2026. Ideal for living rooms or boutique bedrooms, combine it with warm tones like burnt orange and muted gold, or with soft grey and dark green for a layered, indulgent look.
Tidal Teal balances cool and warm tones, offering an immersive, comforting shade with a dustier edge that suits both modern and rustic interiors. Ideal for lounges and spa-inspired bathrooms, it pairs well with warm metallics, earthy materials, and layered fabrics for a versatile, textured look.
Golden Hour is a mellow, sun-drenched golden yellow with a vintage softness, perfect for creating warm, comforting spaces in 2026. Ideal for dining rooms, bedrooms, or bathrooms, choose it with terracotta, creamy neutrals, and contrasting shades like deep teal or soft lilac for a grounded yet retro vibe.
The 2026 colour palette blends natural tones with warmth to bring calm and character to any home. From the glowing Golden Hour to the rich Velvet Plum, these hues elevate spaces without overwhelming them, encouraging a self-expressive approach to interior design.

We were struggling to sell our property because potential buyers kept coming back with concerns about the roof. One couple had their roofer say it needed replacing – quoting £18,000. Wanting clarity, we contacted Britton Roofing, who carried out a roof assessment and, for a few hundred pounds, provided a detailed report. Remedial work was needed, but the roof was otherwise in a serviceable condition. The repairs cost us £3,000. Britton Roofing saved us money, time and hassle, and we were able to hand the home over in good order.
A roof isn’t just a layer of tiles — it’s a complex and critical part of a building. There are many different roof systems, each with specific construction methods, materials, and detailing. Understanding how they work together requires more than basic trade skills — it demands both roofing expertise and wider building knowledge. We frequently attend properties where
previous work has failed — not always from bad intentions, but from poor understanding. Inexperienced roofers often misdiagnose issues, offering superficial fixes. These kinds of mistakes can lead to more serious damage, additional cost, and unnecessary stress for homeowners. Our approach is grounded in detailed assessment, informed judgement, and a commitment to providing durable, evidence-based solutions.
Our background in building preservation and restoration sets us apart. Our teams combine roofing expertise with a deeper understanding of how moisture, materials, and structures interact over time. We deliver professional roofing and damp cure services tailored to the condition and history of each property. From comprehensive assessments to high-standard remedial works and full roof replacements, every project is handled with a focus on longevity, building integrity, and cost-effective outcomes.
Britton Roofing is an established business with over 30 years of experience in the roofing industry, serving local towns and villages.
We proudly thrive on reputation and integrity. Our team reflects these values through their workmanship and attention to detail on every job. It’s this commitment to craft, integrity, and long-term value that makes us a trusted name among homeowners and property professionals who expect more than a quick fix. www.brittonroofing.co.uk
