The tour will bring the wonders and mysteries of the planet’s oceans and wildlife to the UK arena stage. A fantastical journey from icy polar seas to pulsating coral reefs, from the luminous deep sea to enormous kelp forests: immerse yourself with Blue Planet II – Live In Concert, a simply breath-taking and epic show that you will never forget. The concert will present a selection of incredible visuals from the series, highlighting the amazing natural wonders of our blue planet in breath-taking detail, projected on a giant state of the art 4K Ultra HD LED screen. The concert will feature exciting visuals from the show including the now infamous Tusk fish, the Crab and Eel rock pool chase and the ‘folklore-turned-reality’ Sea Lion tuna hunt, to name but a few. The concert will be hosted by BBC presenter Anita Rani, a highly-respected TV personality. Anita is a household name as one of the presenters of the BBC One series Countryfile, and regularly appears in and presents the BBC’s One Show. She has also presented programmes including Bollywood: The World’s Biggest Film Industry and Watchdog. In 2015 Anita was also a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. Live accompaniment comes from City of Prague Orchestra, conducted by Matthew Freeman. Music is by Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea and David Fleming for Bleeding Fingers Music.

Rani said of narrating Blue Planet II – Live In Concert: I am really honoured to have the role of host on the Blue Planet II Live In Concert arena tour. The TV series was such a fantastic and enlightening show and has really empowered society to view our oceans and environment with a great deal more care. I can’t wait to stand on stage with an 80-piece orchestra and huge screen showing some of that incredible Blue Planet II footage, it should be an amazing experience!” The Blue Planet II television show was the most watched TV programme of 2017 in the United Kingdom, reaching 37.6 million viewers. During the four-year filming, the teams embarked on 125 expeditions, travelled to 39 countries, filmed on all continents and in every ocean. They spent 6,000 hours deep-sea diving, 1,000 of which were on underwater boats. Logistically, some of these expeditions could be compared to a trip into space – such was the effort. In the process, the camera teams encountered creatures that appeared so strange that they really did seem to come from a different planet!

etting up a savings plan is something our advisers are regularly asked about. But where do you start if you’re a parent, grandparent, or family friend wanting to set up an investment plan for babies or young children? James Wright, independent financial planner, outlines the basics of some savings plans currently available. Children’s savings accounts in a bank or building society Minimum investment is usually £1 but varies considerably. It usually needs to be opened and operated by a parent or guardian (not the grandparent). Interest rates vary but regular (monthly) savings plans usually give a higher rate than one-oﬀ deposits, and the same may apply if the adult has a qualifying account with the same provider as the child. If parents give cash gifts to the child’s account and interest earned is greater than £100 p.a. this could be taxed on the parents. Junior Cash ISAs (a JISA) Usually £1 minimum investment but varies according to provider and account. Maximum investment £4,260 per annum and relatives can contribute to a JISA on top of their own £20k ISA limit. Rates of interest are normally higher than a bank or building society account, but they vary considerably. Account usually needs to be opened and looked after by a parent or guardian, ie not the grandparent. e savings are free from Income Tax and the child can withdraw their cash after they are 18, after which time the cash remains tax free. A child can have only one JISA. Junior Stocks and Shares ISA Similar to a JISA (above) but requires a monthly 1 0 FEBRUARY 2019

minimum investment of at least £25. Growth is dependent on the funds selected – can be high or low risk. Funds are free from Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax. e account needs to be opened and looked after by a parent or guardian. Premium Bonds e minimum value that can be bought is currently £100, but this will change to £25 from April, as will the range of adult friends and relations who can buy Premium Bonds on behalf of a child. No interest is earned, the value of the bond remains static for as long as it is held. ere is no tax due on any winnings, and the parent or guardian must look after the account until the child turns 16. Trust funds Suitable for investing larger sums for an individual: a typical initial outlay is over £50k. One or more trustees are legally responsible for protecting and investing funds appropriately for beneficiaries (such as children). Growth will depend on the investment funds chosen, and access will be dependent on the terms of the trust or can be at the trustees’ discretion. Setup fees will be incurred, and probably other fees as additional advice is needed. Seeking independent financial advice is strongly recommended. Child pensions ese can be set up for as little as £20 per month, to a maximum of £2880 (net) per year. Like adult pensions, a child’s pension is eligible for 20% tax relief, so if a parent or grandparent pays in £2880 each year the government will top it up to £3600. Like all pensions, it cannot be accessed until at least 55, by which time it will hopefully have matured to a sizeable sum! n

he Party Wall etc. Act 1996 is an act of parliament which requires anyone proposing works to a property with a shared wall to formally notify the neighbours before they begin and give them the opportunity to have the works reviewed by a Party Wall Surveyor. ese works might include rear extensions, lofts, chimney breast removal or even basement excavations. It is also a requirement to notify a neighbour if digging within 3m of their property if digging will be deeper than their foundations. Once the Surveyor/s have been appointed the next step is to record the condition of the neighbours property in what is known as a schedule of condition. is will list any and all visible defects within that property and this will later be used to assess whether any damage has occurred as a result of the works. e Surveyor/s will then collate all information produced by the design team namely the architect and engineer as well as any method statements produced by the contractor to show how they will safely undertake the work. 5 2 FEBRUARY 2019

Once all information is to hand the Surveyors will produce a document called a Party Wall Award which sets out all parties’ rights and obligations including such items as the hours of noisy work and any other restrictions. e person undertaking the work will pay all reasonable fees and costs associated with their works and will of course be ordered to pay costs for damage should this occur. e process is aimed at streamlining what can be complex and sometimes fraught with emotional problems that can crop up with construction work close to or adjoining a neighbour. Having a professional surveyor on board will mean that your rights are protected and you will not need to revert to legal action. TO MOVE OR NOT TO THE MOVE – THAT IS THE QUESTION!!!

ith all of the commentary in the media about Brexit, many people seem to have reservations about putting their homes on the market for sale. Contrary to what is being said, we have found that the market in our area is performing well. It is true to say that the market place is very price sensitive, but if you market your property at the correct level there are plenty of buyers who are eager to purchase, perhaps keen to capitalise on the excellent mortgage oﬀers available now. We have found that our buyers are looking to move irrelevant of what the press are saying. Historically prices have always only risen in our area and that is evident from the apparent crash in 2007. Prices are significantly higher now than they were at that point, which goes to show that in the long term, quality homes in desirable areas, that oﬀer exceptional schooling and transport links, will always be in demand from buyers moving out of central London, looking for great standards of living and excellent value. Another reason to list your house now is that there is an evident shortage of available stock due to some people

not wishing to market their property currently. is results in less competition for vendors and more competition from buyers looking to secure their next home.
