FISH UNION

Wild Seabass, Roasted English Asparagus, Jersey Royals & Chive Fish Cream

This delicious dish perfectly marries this season’s finest fish and vegetables - a match made in heaven!! It’s easy to do and ready in 45 minutes!

Ingredients: Serves 2

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 15 minutes

• 2 x wild bass fillet (can be purchased from Fish Union)

• 240g English asparagus

• 140g Jersey royal potatoes

For the chive fish cream;

• 500ml fish stock

• 250ml white wine

• 250ml double cream

• 2 shallots finely sliced

• 1/4 bunch chopped chives

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180c.

“Jersey Royal potatoes are delicious this time of year and make the perfect accompaniment”

2. Start with the sauce, add the shallots and white wine to a pan and reduce by two thirds. Add the fish stock and reduce by half, then add the cream and reduce by half. Set the sauce aside and keep warm.

3. While the sauce is reducing, boil or steam the Jersey potatoes.

4. Toss the asparagus in olive oil, season with salt and pepper and roast in the oven for 6-8 minutes.

5. Pat dry the Seabass fillets and season with sea salt. Place the fish skin side down in a medium hot pan for 6-8 minutes. Start the cooking with a neutral oil and just before the cooking time is up, turn the fillet skin side up and add a knob of butter, the residual heat from the pan will finish the cooking process.

6. Place asparagus and Jerseys on the plate, top with the Seabass and finally add chopped chives to the fish cream, gently pour over and around then sit back and enjoy.

RESTAURANT REVIEW

ZAVI, New Eltham

Ambiance

We visited on a Saturday evening. Zavi is quite a large restaurant, and was busy with a good mixture of families and couples enjoying their meals. The spaciousness of the restaurant though really ensured that we didn’t in any way feel crammed in and the background noise of the other diners was maintained as exactly that.

Service

We were greeted on with a smile on arrival at the door and the host anticipated who we were and our booking time and we were greeted by name. The same host attended to our meal throughout and was thoroughly attentive without being at all intrusive.

Food

We began with the spicy stir-fried Octopus, with peppers, onion, garlic and chilli served in a delicious garlic butter sauce. a delightful dish when properly cooked, as it was here. I went for the Crispy battered prawns in a sweet chilli sauce, providing a nice kick without being overpowering.

For my main I went for a hearty warming Iskender, translated as Alexander (the Great). It’s quite calorific, a Turkish dish of Bursa, made from high quality beef and served with yogurt and melted butter, layered over slices of pitta bread. I was glad though as the meat was cooked to perfection with the rich tomato sauce, bursting with flavour.

Mr partner decided on the Ocean Grill for her main, consisting of Salmon, marinated King Prawns and Monk fish skewered with a side salad and served with chips, which conjured up thoughts of Mediterranean holidays past.

Drink

The bar has a great selection of wines, beers and spirits from around the world to compliment their dishes. My partner began with a Long Island Ice Tea. White rum, complemented by a trio of tequila, gin, and triple sec, balanced with Zesty lemon and a splash of cola. To accompany our food, we went with for a bottle of Featherdrop Marlborough Sauvignon blanc, which was brimming with flavours of lemon, Lime, grapefruit and gooseberry, which had a refreshing clean finish. This complimented the fish dishes perfectly.

Desserts

For dessert, I went for the Baklava, pistachio baked in filo pastry in a rich honey syrup served with vanilla ice cream. My partner enjoyed A traditionally made round sticky toffee pudding with toffee fudge pieces and lashings of toffee sauce also with vanilla ice cream. 747-753 Sidcup Road, London SE9 3SA T: 0208 850 5517 W: zavirestaurant.co.uk

Overview

Zavi is an excellent, spacious restaurant providing great service and an excellent opportunity to enjoy some flavours of the Mediterranean and a chance to forget the awful weather we’ve had over the last few months!

A Timeless Golden Rose Love Story

Named for its glorious colour, the golden rose is synonymous with 50th wedding anniversaries the world over. But for Sir Winston Churchill and his wife, Lady Clementine Churchill, the golden rose was not only symbolic of their love for one another, but of the enduring love their children had for them.

On the 12th of September 1958, Winston and Clementine celebrated 50 years of marriage together. To mark this momentous occasion the Churchill’s oldest son, Randolph, presented them with an original wedding gift from him, his siblings, and their families. The noteworthy gift was an avenue of golden roses that was planted at Chartwell, their family home in Kent. Seeing the Golden Rose Avenue in its full glory would not happen until a year later, in 1959 when it came fully into bloom.

Fortunately, the children had prepared a supplementary gift for their parents as they waited for the blooms to arrive. In theme with the golden

rose celebrations, Randolph and his siblings gave his parents ‘The Golden Rose Book’.  Featuring different rose variations that were to bloom in their new garden avenue, the book was a teaser for the couple to get excited for what was to come. Inside the book, beautiful paintings of roses, colourful and original to the artists commissioned by the children, all formed a wonderful myriad of styles. Artists of the time such as Natalie Bevan, Duncan Grant, Augustus John, Cecil Beaton, and others were part and parcel of the creation of this gift. Denzil Reeves, who was both an artist and calligrapher, designed one of the most significant pages in the book, ‘Plan of the Golden Rose Garden’, which listed the names of roses in beautiful calligraphy. ‘Tawney Gold’, ‘Goldilocks’, and ‘All Gold’ were among the variations planted in the avenue.

In a letter addressed to Reeves, Clementine thanked him for his work on the Golden Rose Book, writing:

“I fear I have been all too long in writing a thank you for the exquisite work which you contributed to the Golden Book of Roses which our children presented to my husband and myself on the occasion of our Golden Wedding.”

She continues: “The book is a joy to us both and I know it will be a constant source of pleasure and interest to all who come here.”

In the Dining Room at Chartwell, the Golden Rose Book lays on permanent display for all who visit the Churchill’s family home, and the Golden Rose Avenue is as glorious in bloom as it was in 1959. It is one example of many that can be seen across Chartwell of Winston and Clementine’s shared passion for nature and beauty; from the 800 roses in Lady Clementine’s Rose Garden to the border planted to encourage the butterflies.

THE FINEST SCHOOLS IN YOUR AREA

We’re going Co-Ed!

I’m absolutely delighted to have recently announced that Bickley Park is becoming co-educational. Tom Quilter – Headmaster, Bickley Park

In the first phase of this change, the School will offer places for both girls and boys into its Reception classes from September 2024, building on the current co-ed Nursery. Then, from September 2025, the School will welcome girls as well as boys from Nursery through to Year 3. These year groups will then move through the School.

“This is a natural development for the school that will bring positive benefits to the whole Bickley Park community”

This decision comes following growing demand from current and prospective parents for a co-educational setting and the School’s commitment to meet the needs of modern family life.

Opportunity

This exciting move gives families the opportunity to twin excellence with convenience, by sending all of their children to Bickley Park to benefit from our highquality all-round education and excellent pastoral care. We are extremely proud of our reputation as an outstanding Prep School and are committed to strengthening our offer whilst staying true to the values and ethos of the School’s history. At the same time, it is important that we remain reflective, forwardthinking and in line with current market demand. The needs of our pupils is at the heart of all our decisions, as the school continues to evolve and adapt. This is a natural development for the school that will bring positive benefits to the whole Bickley Park community.

38 MAY 2024 INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS GUIDE

Outstanding Results at 11+ and 13+

From the moment a child starts their journey with us, we are determined to spark and nurture a life-long love of learning in them. Whether they are busy learning Forest School skills, having fun in the mud kitchen, or out and about on trips that tie in with our creative curriculum, the children in our Nursery and Reception embrace every element of our unique Four Quadrants of Learning.

As children move through the school, our small class sizes ensure that we explore, identify and celebrate the strengths of every child, no matter where they lie. Our priority is the children’s happiness in their learning and this in turn is reflected in their outstanding progress. Over the years, we have continued to enjoy excellent results at both 11+ and 13+, confident that the way we teach is excellent preparation for any entrance exam.

‘Excellent’ in all areas says the Independent Schools Inspectorate

It is this firm commitment to all-round success which led the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) to judge Bickley Park as ‘excellent’ in March 2023 for both pupils’ Achievement and pupils’ Personal Development, the highest possible grading for an Independent School. In addition, Bickley Park was named Prep School of the Year in 2021 for its ‘wellarticulated, coherent and holistic Four Quadrants of Learning programme’.

This well-rounded learning experience encompasses Academics, Arts, Community, and Sports and Outdoor Learning. Together the Four Quadrants arm our pupils with skills for life: a love of learning; the ability to communicate confidently; the desire to contribute meaningfully to society and show initiative, resilience, teamwork, and the confidence to take risks.

“Our priority is the children’s happiness in their learning and this in turn is reflected in their outstanding progress”

Both of our school sites boast excellent facilities which allow the children from Nursery through to the Senior Years to develop and excel. From the purposebuilt science labs, art rooms and theatre through to the on-site swimming pool, climbing wall and astro-turf pitches, the school provides a breadth of opportunity both in and out of the classroom.

A dedicated development and refurbishment programme is already in progress to realign the school infrastructure across our large site to ensure that all pupils continue to benefit from these excellent facilities at Bickley Park.

We are ambitious for the next chapter in the fine history of our School and are thrilled to be extending our community to welcome girls, enhancing our strong family ethos by creating a fully co-educational community.

Please contact us to arrange a tour.

I look forward to meeting many new families over the coming months.

To organise a School Tour or for any further information please do get in touch with the School Registrar, Mrs Eileen Saint, on 0208 467 2195 or admissions@bickleyparkschool.co.uk or visit the website at: www.bickleyparkschool.co.uk/admissions/visit-us

A time of excitement, discovery and preparation

Babington House School set up their Sixth form ten years ago, and within three years became the top small independent school for A Levels in the country.

Providing academic success within a supportive environment

Babington House is a warm, caring community with high focus on academic success and inspiring a love of learning. Sixth Form students enjoy studying a wide range of subjects including mathematics, economics, science, languages and the arts. It is this what makes the Sixth Form so unique, and pupils thrive from being a part of this supportive and friendly community.

Small… but mighty!

Being a small Sixth Form has a HUGE advantage. Pupils benefit from small teaching groups enabling lessons to be tailored to individual needs, drawing out their talents and finding their strengths. The culture of achievement and embedded pastoral care drives happy, hard-working students and A level results that outperform the Grammar and Independent schools in the area year in, year out.

Progressing to University and beyond

Expert advice and careers guidance is firmly on the agenda for Sixth Form students as well as a number of leadership opportunities formed from being a key part of this all-through school community. It is this balance of support and aspiration that provides a solid foundation for Babington’s Sixth Form pupils enabling them to be well prepared to step out into the world with confidence, determination and the courage to realise their dreams.

“I can honestly say that Babington has been the best experience of my life. The staff and pupils are equally as friendly and willing to help. I know that once I leave Babington (after 13 years!) I will be a well-rounded individual. The level of education at Babington is second to none, and I am sure that the skills I’ve developed will be called upon all through my life”. – Florence, former English, Maths and German A level student.

Another round of firsts at Cobham Hall

Cobham Hall is no stranger to firsts. The Hall’s Old Library was the first home of cricket’s renowned Ashes, presented to then-owner and England captain, Ivo Bligh, before being donated to the museum at Lord’s. Its grounds were the first resting place of Charles Dickens’ famed ‘Swiss Chalet’ writing den after the author’s death in 1870. And in the 1960s, pioneering Cobham Hall was the first all-girls school to win a place at the table of the international ‘Round Square’ network of schools committed to experiential learning.

But Cobham’s firsts are far from a relic of history. This forward-thinking school has never been afraid to embrace the new, and recent months have been no exception.

Firsts for democracy

Campaigns, speeches, secret ballots: democracy in action at Cobham’s annual ‘Guardian Convention’ student leadership elections never fails to cause a buzz. But

there was an added frisson this term, as the school’s newly co-educational Sixth Form yielded the first-ever male candidate in its sixty-year history.

Local boy Jude upended tradition as he was elected Deputy Guardian. But it was Nattakarn (Ruk) who took the top spot and will lead the student body.

Cobham’s first-ever Thai Guardian, Ruk promises to draw on her own experience as an international boarder and “make Cobham Hall feel like Cobham Home to everyone”.

Firsts in theatre

In another major milestone, this time for drama, the school’s musical theatre production of ‘Guys and Dolls’ in March was the first ever to feature Cobham Hall boys. Transported from the grandeur of Cobham’s 17th century music room to the gritty streets of 1920s New York, the audience enjoyed every minute of this historic, stellar performance from a cast of students from Years 7 to 13.

A first for art

With eyes firmly on the future despite its historic roots, last year Cobham added industry-focused Graphic Communications to its array of A Level options – and the subject’s inaugural cohort of alumni has scored a first of their own. Sabrina, Year 13, has not only secured a place at Loughborough – ranked first in the UK by The Guardian for Graphic Design - but also been awarded a highly prestigious international scholarship. Cobham Hall: a school like no other.

NumberWorks’nWords individualised tuition builds confidence and boosts results

umberWorks’nWords offers individualised tuition that builds confidence and boosts results. Maths and English are foundational skills that must be mastered for students to achieve academic success in many other areas of the curriculum. These skills are complex and do not come easily for many children, who can then get left behind in a classroom of 30.

For over 40 years, NumberWorks’nWords has provided support for children’s learning with its specialist maths and English tuition services, helping children of any ability get on track with their learning or extend children who are not being challenged. The secret to NumberWorks’nWords’ success comes from world-class tuition software, our tutors who are subject matter experts, and individual tuition programmes tailored to each child’s particular needs.

Every child who comes to a NumberWorks’nWords centre receives a unique software assessment to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Once we have an understanding of a child’s capabilities, we create a learning plan in consultation with parents that focuses on closing learning gaps or extending their knowledge, rather than teaching them what they already know. Children receive one-on-one teaching from tutors who explain new concepts, and the students cement their understanding with practice using computer-based exercises. This combination of individual instruction plus independent practice is designed to create a confident learner in the classroom.

NumberWorks’nWords Bromley centre is also a fun, supportive environment that will help your child gain a love of learning. Many children who have been struggling academically suffer from a loss of confidence. Tutors at NumberWorks’nWords provide constant feedback on progress and award certificates for achievements. Based on success, children who attend NumberWorks’nWords experience a positive change in mindset about their capabilities. Furthermore, from the summer term onwards, a new centre will be opening in Petts Wood, offering the same high-quality tuition services. If you suspect your child is struggling with maths or English and are looking for support, a no-obligation free assessment at NumberWorks’nWords is a great place to start.

Book your free assessment and introductory lesson at one of the centres by visiting numberworksnwords.com/uk/free-assessment

Family-first approach to swimming lessons

A learn-to-swim scheme in Sevenoaks is making waves among local families for its “family-first approach.”

Everyone Active – the leisure operator for Sevenoaks Leisure Centre– hosts its award-winning swimming lessons at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre and help hundreds of children every day to learn to be confident in water.

Aside from being a fun activity, swimming provides many physical health benefits such as improved strength, stamina and balance, helping children of all ages and abilities to stay happy and healthy.

“We are a small, loyal team that put our swimmers first,” says Mark Horne, Swimming Coach and Swim Manager at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre. “This allows us to not only know all the children by first name, but also the parents, achieving a family-first approach. It’s completely natural for parents to be nervous for their child to begin swimming lessons but, as not all children learn at the same rate, we adapt our lessons as needed for each child, suggesting one to one sessions if needed.

“Swimming is not only a great form of low impact sport for people with a wide range of conditions, but

is one of the most important life skills we can teach children - not only as a very inclusive sport, but as a safety skill which will stay with them for life.”

Recognising the benefits of the classes, Olivia, mother of 3-year-old Kitty, said: “Kitty’s confidence has grown so much since her lessons began. At first, she struggled to get into the water without me, but by week two she was jumping into the pool! Kitty’s teacher is always encouraging the children, and no one is ever left out as all abilities are catered for.”

For Kitty, learning to swim has helped her confidence and sense of feeling safe around water. She said: “I can swim on my own now - I love jumping in and it’s my goal to improve on this. Every time I visit the pool, whether it’s during class or with my family, my confidence grows even more!”

For more details on how Everyone Active’s swimming programme in Sevenoaks District can help your child, contact sevenoaksswim@ everyoneactive.com, or visit: www.everyoneactive. com/courses-lessons/swimming-lessons/

Can you still be you with dementia?

By next year, it is estimated that more than one million people in the UK will have dementia.

For Dementia Action Week (13-19 May), we reflect on a common worry for people when they first learn they have dementia: that they will lose the essence of who they are.

We see this with some of our residents and their families. While the concern is perfectly understandable, it’s important to remember that dementia is something you have, not something you are. Even though the person may struggle with memory or concentration, or show unusual behaviours, they are still themselves.

Life and care after a dementia diagnosis

While everyone experiences dementia differently, the right support and focusing on the things you can do and enjoy can help you feel positive and well.

• First, stay stimulated. Many care settings provide activities specially designed for residents with dementia. If you are not in care, support groups can provide stimulation, as well as comfort and a sense of community.

• Keep your diet and lifestyle in check. Drinking enough fluid, and eating good mix of vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein is a good start. Daily exercise (which may include gardening or house chores) keeps the blood flowing – which supports cognition – and increases key chemicals that protect the brain.

• Monitor your mood. Depression can be common among people living with dementia. Remaining social and stimulated can help keep it at bay, and speak to a professional if you are worried.

colour. We’re seeing a movement towards earthy, organic colours and finishes and tiles are a great way to add some interest to your décor.”

EMBRACE THE ECLECTIC

“Opt for materials and furnishings that make you happy to quickly transform a space while ensuring it feels like home. Whether that be tiles that remind you of a holiday in Europe or a beachy hardwood that brings a coastal feel to your living space, it’s all about breaking the rules and letting your personality shine through your décor this spring and summer.”

CONTRASTING COLOURS

“Strong colour combinations which offer a stark light and shade colour contrast such as a deep black and a crisp white are growing in popularity. Flooring is the perfect way to incorporate this trend into your décor, with monochrome floors being a classic choice that will never go out of style.”

THE ART OF DOWNSIZING

We all appreciate that quality surpasses quantity in life, which is why downsizing should be seen as an exciting opportunity to fine-tune your environment rather than a mere reduction of space. Smaller spaces are often a highly practical solution, but also a reflection of the choice to embrace a lifestyle defined by intention, purpose and refinement. Only that which is important remains. Which calls for clever curation.

For those seeking to simplify their homes – and lives – without sacrificing beauty or comfort, it’s about balance. Should it stay or should it go? To downsize with style, each element of the space needs to be carefully edited to tick the boxes of functionality, aesthetics, and self-expression.

To reduce one’s home with panache entails careful planning, thoughtful curation, and a keen eye for design (plus an open mind). Join us on

the voyage as we explore how to navigate the transition to a scaled-down home with grace, sophistication and – yes, really – joy.

EDIT, EDIT, EDIT:

Approach downsizing as a careful process of conscious curation, as opposed to a quick or thoughtless discarding of possessions. Each item to be carried forward should be useful or sentimental (a bonus point for both). It helps to visualise your stylish, functional home and view existing pieces alongside this new space. The rarely used? The long forgotten? The I-never-liked-this? Let them all go, and free yourself as well as your floor space. Stay mindful and remember the end goal – peace, practicality, beauty and refinement.

EXCELLENCE OVER EXCESS:

Repeat: quality not quantity, quality not quantity, quality not quantity. Let this be your modern

downsizing mantra, a starting point and a guide when you reach a fork in the road. Exquisitely designed pieces of furniture are what it’s all about here. Pieces that are timeless, forever-lasting, and well-crafted. Pieces with soul. Multifunctional furniture such as extendable dining tables, modular sofas and nesting tables offer versatility and efficiency, allowing the space to seamlessly adapt to various requirements as and when needs arise, without compromising on daily good looks.

START WITH THE STORAGE:

Well-designed storage is the foundation of any home, none more so than the downsized. As spaces compact, the war against clutter can be never ending, which is why built-in solutions, shelving units and other such organisers are vital. There will be some belongings you want to conceal, and some you want proudly on display, and this is where perfectly planned storage steps in.

MINIMALIST MOMENTS:

Throughout the process you’ll probably find that you start naturally swaying towards minimalism. That doesn’t mean moving into an all-white, empty cube, but more the dawning understanding that less really is more. Simple forms, clean lines, uncrowded spaces and a cohesive colour palette will nudge you to creating an environment that’s as serene as it is harmonious.

THOSE PERSONAL TOUCHES:

Amidst all of the editing and paring back, it’s essential to remember the significance of meaningful touches. Downsizing in no way means the sacrifice of individualism or authenticity. Infusing cherished pieces into your new space not only showcases your personality and life story, but the memories they evoke every time you stroll past can be a thing of pure joy. Smaller-item collections should be considered and curated rather than totally de-cluttered, they very much deserve to be on display, bringing their delightful charm and character to the forefront of your new home. chaplins.co.uk

Symbiotic Smart Homes

Smart technology is becoming a lifestyle choice that is no longer a preserve of the uber rich, but is now attainable within our homes at affordable prices

Knowing what is right for you and your needs within your living space is still best left to the professionals, who immerse themselves in technology and keep up to date with the latest products to market.

Charlie Hibbins, founder of Symbiotic Smart Homes, is the first to call himself a ‘tech geek’. He founded the company three years ago, after working 15 years in the industry, capitalising on his wealth of experience – and extremely personable nature –to provide his clients with a uniquely personalised end-to-end service.

“I am a massive tech head and have always been interested in computers since I was young”, says Charlie. “Working predominantly in residential properties allows me insight into the space available, the client’s lifestyle and what their needs are. Building relationships is key to a successful outcome

in creating tailored systems the client wants.”

The process can be a long one, with Charlie being called in at the start of a new house build and working alongside architects and interior designers. “The longest project has been five and a half years for a very high-end house build, but that really was a one off,” Charlie laughs. “Most projects require a couple of months for decision making and then I work with a team of specialist contractors, overseeing things myself.”

Staying ahead of ever-changing technology is important and Charlie has a core selection of companies he works with, some household names and some not. “It can come down to budget, what the smart tech needs to deliver, or the client’s preference to have something unique; I’ll consider all options,” he explains. “Most commonly people seek installation of TV and visuals, or TV and modular audio and home cinemas, and lighting systems. We know what the best options are and what tech compliments each other – this is often where things go wrong when people do it themselves. We can take the stress out of the situation.”

“Working predominantly in residential properties allows me insight into the space available, the client’s lifestyle and what their needs are”

THREE WAYS TO TRANSFORM YOUR HOME WITH SMART TECH

1. A healthier home

A whole range of clever products can help make your home healthier, with everything from optimised climate control to eliminate allergens and help you keep your cool through to integrated smart sound and lighting to promote a relaxing environment that works with your natural circadian rhythm and mood.

Symbiotic tip: “Everyone’s priorities will be different, so it is important to get the balance and the budget right to make sure you invest in the things that will make the most difference to you and your family.”

3. A flexible home

With the rise of remote working, our homes have to be multifunctional spaces. Smart technology can help create optimal environments for different tasks, from using clever lighting to define different areas within one zone to a state-of-the-art cinema room for designated down-time with the family.

Symbiotic tip: “Having well-defined spaces for work, rest and play within your home can make family dynamics far easier.”

2. A safer home

Feeling insecure in your own home has been shown to have a negative impact on mental health. Integrated smart home technology can elevate your security systems to provide protection from both internal and external threats – from simple house alarms to intruder detection and CCTV that links to multiple other systems, including video and lighting.

Symbiotic tip: “Smart home security can not only reduce stress and anxiety, but can also save you time, with many features available at the touch of a button – even remotely.”

Our homes have to work harder than ever. Smart technology provides imaginative solutions for how we live today – and tomorrow

Body, Mind, and Home Where Expertise Really Matters

We often use Personal Trainers, Yoga Coaches, and Nutritionists to help us look after our bodies. Some of us have Life Coaches and Therapists to address life’s challenges. For our homes, there are Interior Designers to call on and, sometimes, Feng Shui experts. Yet when we look to build a new home or renovate an existing one, most of us overlook seeking the help of the single most useful resource that can deliver a successful outcome, while saving time, money, and stress.

The first thought for anyone contemplating any major project should be to talk with a Project Manager. In the commercial world, this is commonplace, so it should be in the residential or new-build housing market.

This is because every professional contracted to work on a new build or major refurbishment looks after what they do, only sometimes coordinating the others involved. Architects design. Builders build. Surveyors survey. Each one often ensures their part of the project is delivered as intended. Even so, none of these services takes care of the project as a whole. They won’t start with a comprehensive wish list carefully developed with the client. They won’t draw up plans covering every aspect of the project. And they won’t preside over delivering the project from start to finish. That is an essential function,

one which is often overlooked. It is also one that property owners seldom have the knowledge and skills to undertake. That can mean delays, frustration, added costs, and dreams not being realised.

If you are renovating a property or contemplating starting on a new build, you can get a complex and demanding process right by engaging a construction Project Manager. This is essential for several reasons. First and foremost, a construction Project Manager brings expertise in project planning and management. They have the knowledge and experience to develop a comprehensive plan that outlines the necessary steps to achieve your goals within budget and on schedule. By engaging a Project Manager early in the process, you can benefit from their strategic insight and ensure that your project gets off to a strong start. From the moment

they start helping you devise your Wish List, they can ensure things go smoothly.

Additionally, a Project Manager serves as the central point of contact for all stakeholders involved in the project. They coordinate communication between you, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring that everyone is working towards the same objectives. This minimizes the risk of miscommunication and helps to prevent delays and cost overruns.

A Project Manager also plays a crucial role in procurement and resource management, overseeing the sourcing of materials, equipment, and labour, negotiating contracts, and managing vendor relationships. By engaging a Project Manager early on, you can ensure that the right resources are available when needed, helping to prevent delays and keep your project on track.

Furthermore, a Project Manager is adept at risk management. They anticipate potential obstacles and develop strategies to mitigate them, helping to minimize disruptions and keep your project on schedule. By engaging a Project Manager from the outset, you can identify potential risks early on and develop contingency plans to address them, reducing the likelihood of costly delays later in the project. Overall, engaging a Project Manager first is critical for ensuring the success of your new build house or major house refurbishment. Their expertise in project planning and management, communication, procurement, and risk management makes them the ideal candidates to oversee your project from start to finish, maximizing efficiency, minimizing risks, and ultimately delivering a successful outcome.

Step forward Tony Cheeseman, Project Manager and Founder and Director of IQ Property Services, an expert with the experience, skills, and connections to make a real difference in what can be a major life event, as this testimonial shows:

“Tony’s tendering and contracting experience and then detailed follow-through allowed us to deliver the quality build we desired within our budget and to timetable! His relationships with local suppliers of kitchens, bathrooms, security, and much more, proved invaluable for a fast, efficient service at reasonable prices. Overall, we enjoyed ‘peace of mind’ rather than stress, as we progressed to completion. We would recommend his services unreservedly.” - Mr & Mrs M, Sevenoaks Tony and IQ Property Services can take your wishes and turn them into reality, smoothly and efficiently.
