A passion for all things FERMENTED

Where did your passion for wine

stem from?

Working initially as a chef, I became interested in how wine pairs with food. The infinite subtleties among different styles mean each release from every producer is as unique as the grape varieties that go into making them.

A passion for all things fermented, the microbiology and chemistry behind winemaking has always fascinated me. In 2021 I graduated at Plumpton College with a Viticulture and Oenology degree.

What prompted you to open Bouchez?

Matthew opened Quercus Wines, our next-door shop, back in 2018. Limits on licensing and space meant we couldn’t serve wines to drink (despite considerable demand!) but the opportunity to start a proper wine bar finally arose last year when the larger unit at 19-20 the Green became available. We now have seating for 30 and plenty of room for tastings and other events.

How do wines get their different flavours and aromas?

Lots of ways! Firstly, through the hundreds of grape varieties found worldwide.

Secondly ‘terroir’, the specific area in which the grapes are grown; different soil types and climate greatly impact the flavour of the wine.

Thirdly, how the winemaker chooses to process/ ferment the grapes and mature the wine, for example using oak barrels.

What is decanting and what is the purpose of it?

Certain wines may benefit from being decanted if young or recently bottled. Pouring the wine into a decanter helps to introduce some oxygen and open up the wine, releasing aromas and softening the wine’s texture.

Wines that have been aged for many years or bottled unfiltered may have a natural sediment.

What are tannins in wine?

Predominantly a component of red wine, this polyphenol is extracted mostly from grape skins (also seeds and sometimes stalks) and can be imparted from oak barrels. Tannins give structure and mouthfeel which you’ll notice in red wines from Bordeaux and northern Italy for instance. Their structure develops over time and the wine changes character, often becoming softer and more rounded.

What is a Coravin?

Once open, a bottle of wine typically stays fresh for only a few days. This device allows us to pour the wine without removing the cork. It works by pushing a needle through the cork and the wine is then extracted by displacement with inert gas. This means that our customers can try even just a small glass whenever they like from any of the most special or expensive bottles on our list.

CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL

Discover an array of treasures, from stunning medieval stained glass to exquisite gardens.

With new visitor experiences, a major new exhibition, and ‘Kids go Free’ until 31 October 2022*, there’s never been a better time to discover the wonders of Canterbury Cathedral – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mother Church of the Anglican Communion, and seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Founded by St Augustine in 597 AD, it was England’s first cathedral, and now enjoys a history spanning over 1,400 years. King Henry IV and the Black Prince are entombed there, and 2020 marked the 850th anniversary of St Thomas Becket’s murder in the cathedral.

This iconic building has been a site of pilgrimage for centuries and continues to welcome visitors from across the world, introducing them to an array of treasures from stunning medieval stained glass – including the oldest glass in Britain – and beautiful stonework to exquisite architecture and large open gardens.

Whether seeking out dragons and grotesques, marvelling at carved tombs, or exploring the famed cloisters and green spaces, there’s plenty to do, including a range of events during school holidays. You might even be lucky enough to spot the peregrine falcons that sometimes make the Cathedral their home!

New for 2022 is a major exhibition in the Cathedral’s Crypt - ‘Making History: Church, State and Conflict’ - which allows visitors to explore up close, for the first time, a unique collection of artefacts - including the battle shield of Edward The Black Prince, and fragments of Becket’s shrine – that tell the complex, and often violent, story of Church-State relations.

Amazing objects on display include a grant from William de Tracy, one of the four knights who murdered Thomas Becket, and The Accord of Winchester, the 11th-century document, witnessed by William the Conqueror, his queen, Matilda, and Lanfranc, the Archbishop of Canterbury, that records the settlement establishing the supremacy of Canterbury over York.

EVERARD READ PRESENTS A SUMMER OF SCULPTURE AT RIVERHILL HIMALAYAN GARDENS

This summer, Everard Read gallery in London has partnered with Riverhill Himalayan Gardens to present, BRONZE, STEEL AND STONE, an exhibition of contemporary sculpture within the 12 acres of historic gardens in Sevenoaks.

Riverhill has been the ancestral home of the Rogers family for almost two centuries. Known for its beautiful gardens and expansive views across the Weald of Kent, Riverhill provides an idyllic natural setting for engaging with sculpture.

Everard Read has curated a presentation of 16 bronze sculptures by celebrated South African artists and a British sculptor. The artworks have been placed across the gardens including the Walled Garden, Primrose Meadow and the Rock Garden.

Both Everard Read and Riverhill share a long history as family-run businesses. Established in 1913 in South Africa, Everard Read is among the oldest commercial art galleries in the world. This outdoor sculpture exhibition continues the gallery’s practice of presenting sculpture in spectacular landscapes where they can be appreciated in a natural setting. David Bowie once said of this artist – “Everyone should own a Beezy Bailey”.

One of South Africa’s most colourful and celebrated artists, Beezy Bailey is an artist set alight by the need to find expression for his creativity. Many of the ideas and imagery for his work emerge from dreams, the subconscious and a tireless imagination.

Bailey’s father was a RAF pilot and his grandmother a pioneering aviator. Flying clearly entered Bailey’s imagination at an early stage, and never left his dreams

Bailey’s Fallen Angel appears to be falling, floating and flying all at once - its head rooted to the earth, its reflection simultaneously floating in the clouds….

Deborah Bell is one of South Africa’s most celebrated contemporary artists.

In Crossing II these seemingly ancient figures exude serenity as they drift, eyes closed, towards the horizon. Bell has described the smaller totemic figures resting on their heads as manifestations of one’s higher self. Bell has described her artistic practice as a journey through time and material to show something that has always existed.

Florian Wozniak’s work has an earthiness of form, and his sensuous, voluptuously proportioned sculptures often depict human beings in relationship with each other and the wider world.

There is a tenderness about this work entitled Couple – the figures look upwards and outwards, facing the outside world while holding and supporting each other, their arms intertwined and their combined mass rooting them to the earth.

One of South Africa’s most accomplished sculptors Guy du Toit’s Protective Hare is cast in bronze and finished with a unique mottled patination and gold leaf on the tiny hare.

Full of pathos, Protective Hare gently cradles a small hare, shielding it from harm in a world of turmoil and uncertainty.

Du Toit’s hares have a lightness of being. They are like quick sketches in the landscape, something glimpsed out the corner of the eye, like a flash of truth.

Speelman Mahlangu was a South African artist and sculptor. His imagery is distinctively African and draws on traditional practices and symbolism. Riding the Bull is the artist’s take on an age-old sculptural subject – the horse and rider. In Mahlangu’s hands the rider gestures openly and exuberantly to the heavens as he sits aloft a powerful bull, the most sacred beast in many tribal cultures.

Acclaimed South African artist, Lionel Smit is best known for his contemporary portraiture executed through monumental canvases and sculptures. His sculptures are often highly textured, where the hand - and tools - of the artist are clearly evident in the finished bronze.

In Surge Smit has created a double portrait, one face looking skywards and the other looking towards the earth. A simple yet powerful metaphor for life.

Olivia Musgrave draws inspiration from Greek mythology, as well as influences from 20th Century Italian sculptors most notably Marino Marini.

This trio of sculptures are Musgrave’s take on the three goddesses of fate who personify the inescapable destiny of humankind. According to Greek mythology, the Fates assigned to every person his or her fate.

Reminiscent of the monolithic human heads carved by the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island, Musgrave’s Fates have a sense of timelessness and peacefulness - indeed a calm resignation to their fate.

FERRARI LAUNCHES ITS NEW AUTUMN/WINTER 2022/2023 CAMPAIGN

Ferrari has unveiled its new Autumn/ Winter 22-23 campaign, translating the codes of speed and performance into a series of exclusive contents.

The aesthetic narrative of the fashion show is reflected in the campaign design, which glorifies the looks and the people at its centre, with the aim of pursuing and celebrating Rocco Iannone’s creative vision.

The images represent the new Ferrari Men and Women’s collection through the lenses of technological innovation and experimentation. The campaign explores the product by evoking the hybridation of forms and materials; the images themselves feature holographic effects where the subject seems to be blurred or in motion.

A subtle, magnetic charm pervades the futuristic atmospheres, blending the concrete quality of tailoring with the high definition of the electrical, digital world, and expressing the same attitude of speed embodied by the winter wardrobe.

Lines and borders get fixed or manipulated to bring out the play of light and shade in the background, while the elegance of textures and silhouettes stay dynamically impressed in the foreground.

The campaign video highlights the creative bond between fashion and technology, through the animation technique of 3D morphing. Frames, images, iconic elements and design symbols merge to make up a bold, multidimensional message, created by the collision and harmonic convergence of physical, abstract and virtual universes.

The new campaign celebrates Ferrari spirit and style, emphasizing the key role played by sartorial elements, glossy finishes and fine, responsible materials – including natural fabrics and organic recycled fibres, perfectly aligned with the brand’s sustainable approach.

Remarkable sections in the collection feature distinctive graphic prints derived from thermal scanner grids, from a hologram of the logo and an enlarged photo of technical filaments. Additional key themes of the season include a macro camouflage pattern, obtained by deconstructing and overlapping the Prancing Horse, the suits and the ‘looping’ knitwear inspired by the drivers’ uniform, interwoven carbon fibre and black crystals embellishments.

High-quality tailoring and experimental design come together in looks that are 100% Made in Italy, coupled with accessories like sturdy biker boots, metallic pumps and iconic mini bags with high frequency embossed details.

The world-famous London Fashion Week, presented by Clearpay, returns with catwalks, celebrities, glitz and glamour. GLOW GETTERS: The best new bronzers for every skin tone

No sun? No problem, when you’ve got these bronzing beauties, says Katie Wright.

It’s often thought that a natural tan is the best kind of tan. But achieving a sun-kissed glow can prove rather tricky, when a) you can’t easily jet off to catch some rays abroad, and b) there’s very little sun to speak of at home. That’s why you need to make bronzer your BFF this summer. Faster (and more foolproof) than fake tan, a dusting of powder or a dab of cream will add warmth to your complexion, and we’re spoilt for choice right now, with a glut of glow-giving launches…

1. Lottie London Sunkissed Bronzer in Sunburst, £6.95

Best for lighter skin tones, Lottie London’s bamboo and Vitamin E infused matte bronzer comes in two sandy shades, Sunburst (light/ medium) and Suncatcher (medium/dark).

2. Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Matte & Glow Bronzing Trio, £34

Customise your complexion with this beautiful compact, which combines two matte bronzing powders and a pearlised highlighter.

3. Chanel Les Beiges Bronzing Cream in Soleil Deep Tan Bronze, £43

The latest addition to the Les Beiges family, Soleil Deep Tan Bronze is a new darker shade of the bestselling cream bronzer. Tap on the gel-like formula with your fingertips, and blend with a brush or sponge, for a natural-looking glow.

4. Rimmel Natural Bronzer in 003 Sunset, £6.99, Superdrug

Joining the Rimmel Natural Bronzer line-up is Sunset, a medium caramel shade in the same lightweight, yet richly-pigmented powder.

5. Iconic London Sheer Bronze in Golden Hour, £18

Love the ‘glass skin’ look? This liquid bronzer, which comes in six shades, will add warmth and extra dewiness.

6. SOSU by Suzanne Jackson Dripping Gold Luxury Tanning Bronze Bar Illuminator Bronzer Stick, £11.14

Made with shea butter and coconut oil, this deliciously scented stick can be used on your face or body, the caramel hued cream leaving your skin with a gorgeous metallic sheen.

HOUSE & GARDEN

– Keep it local for everything house and home –

Don’t let maintenance costs stop you from buying your DREAM POOL

Owning a swimming pool can be daunting when thinking about the ongoing commitment and cost of running and maintenance. Don’t be put off getting a swimming pool installed because of this; there are things you can do to help to keep those expenses down, with a bit of planning so that the ongoing annual cost of having a swimming pool at home is not as high as you might think.

Swimming pool maintenance requires cleaning, chemicals and the seasonal opening and closing of the pool. These aren’t optional expenses – you’ll want to ensure your pool is kept in good condition and is an enjoyable and healthy place to swim.

The specific maintenance needs for your pool will depend on its size, construction and location, so contact XL Pools for advice and guidance if you’re unsure. Many people choose to engage a pool maintenance company to do all this for them – it’s certainly labour-saving to have someone else do the hard work – but if your priority is to keep costs down, it pays to do all the maintenance yourself.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to keep the cost of maintenance low is to make a regular cleaning schedule, and stick to it! Clean your skimmer baskets daily and pool filter weekly. Doing this religiously will minimise how often you need to do a full deep clean of

the whole pool. Keeping your pool floor, walls and water as clean as possible will also help to prevent the formation of algae and other bacteria, which can be more tricky – and more costly – to remove. You can also purchase a robotic cleaner that will clean and scrub the walls and floor of your pool for you for relatively little cost!

Maintaining the chemical levels in your pool water is another essential aspect of keeping your pool in good condition. It’s possible to buy a digital tester, but a simple dip strip test kit will do the job for a fraction of the price. Typically the chemicals needed for a season in an average-sized pool might cost around £300, but by testing regularly you can ensure you don’t go over budget and that your pool water stays balanced.

You can reduce your heating costs dramatically by putting the cover over the pool when it’s not in use. This will not only save you time cleaning leaves and other debris that enter the water, it will slow evaporation and heat loss, saving on your running costs.

Using an energy-efficient heating source is essential to keeping your running costs low. We suggest an air source heat pump which will use the heat in the air and transfer this to the pool water. Other sources of eco-efficient heating such as solar are possible but not as effective in the UK as compared to warmer climates.

Electricity use of your pool can be reduced significantly by using a timer on your pool pump. When and for how long will depend on the size of your pool and the time of year. If you are at all unsure contact XL Pools for advice and guidance. Typically you can run a pool pump for 8 hours in the summer when use is high and as little as 1 hour a day in the winter when the pool is closed. It is a myth that you need to be circulating your pool water all day every day.

Maintaining your swimming pool is not as daunting or costly as it may seem, simple care of your investment means it will last longer cost less to run and is less likely to need expensive repairs so don’t let this put you off from getting that dream pool.

Many people choose to engage a pool maintenance company to do all this for them

Extending the season for autumn-loving gardeners

Looking forward to autumn, it’s one of the loveliest times to be a gardener. The beauty of plants; their shapes, their foliage, and their natural colours, can be classed as a form of art this season. There is a whole other world of gardening possibilities after summer flowers have faded, your garden can still be enjoyed with planted container displays. And once the sun goes down, the enjoyment can continue by creating an al fresco lounge space– an extension of your home where you can relax and socialise. We take a look at how you can create the finest autumn displays and extend the season for friends and family.

AUTUMN POTSCAPING

Potscaping, quite simply, is landscaping with pots. This element is often used in garden design and is ideal for smaller gardens where a focal point or impact is needed. Potscaping also offers an easy way to add colour to a home’s exterior without digging or weeding in flower borders. By grouping large containers by different sizes, and different colours, powerful and colourful displays can be achieved easily and effectively throughout autumn.

We recommend that you choose containers that are different sizes but complement each other in terms of shape, design and material. Our range of large terracotta pots is the ideal material to consider for a cottage garden. Why not plant in our Julius XXL Planter which is available in three sizes, evoking a romantic and traditional feel with its autumn colours palette, filled with heucheras and seasonal blooms gently swaying in the breeze with bees and butterflies drifting delicately from planter to planter.

“Potscaping, quite simply, is landscaping with pots. This element is often used in garden design and is ideal for smaller gardens where a focal point or impact is needed”

Great potscaping also means turning ordinary plantings into extraordinary ones. Always follow the Thriller, Filler and Spiller method for the wow factor in your potscape. Great plant displays include a “thriller,” a tall plant usually with strong colour and structure, a “filler,” plants that fill the space hiding the soil and a “spiller” that cascades over the rim of the pot.

We love using focal shrubs in the Ancient Collection Extra Large Glazed Plant Pot like cordyline with its bright, spiky foliage. Dwarf conifers with their erect, evergreen sprays are ideal to add height, whilst ornamental grasses add movement and structure. The statuesque stems and red hot Kniphofia, under-planted with autumn bedding, perennials and small shrubs will guarantee to illuminate any potscape.

FIRE IT UP

As the weather cools and the nights draw in, it’s time to get your garden, yard or patio into shape as you embrace the autumn evenings. An outdoor fire pit is the latest must-have accessory for your garden and ideal for evening socialising with friends and family. Whether it be a wood-burning fire pit or gas fire pit, it provides the perfect finishing touch to your alfresco area.

We stock a large array of wood fire pits that are ideal for adding an outdoor hot spot. Our Hoole Tintagel Steel Fire Pit With Stand is a traditional fire bowl that will transform your garden into a relaxation destination and can be used all year round to provide a comfortable ambience in the cooler evenings.

There’s something for everyone this autumn, no matter what your outdoor setting is. You can use fire pits for staying warm, or even to cook your food. And, even better, it provides a focal point, something to arrange your chairs around as your gathering strays into the evening.

The Wakehurst Outdoor Wood Burning Fireplace is a show-stopping hub, ideal for a larger gathering that involves corner or benches seating. If you have a smaller outdoor space, the Hoole Ember Steel Chiminea is a sleek metal fire piece that allows you to extend the party into the evening.

Even on the colder days, a gas fire pit will ensure your back garden is not out of bounds. Installing a fire pit that runs gas will provide heat in an instant. The Grey Concrete Round Premium Outdoor Gas Fire Pit With Lava Rock is a crowd-pleaser with its modernistic look, whilst being easy and safe to use and requiring very little maintenance.

Once you’ve installed your brand new fire pit, you can enjoy its benefits not just in autumn but all year long, giving your outdoor space a new lease of life. The impressive heat the flames give off provides all the warmth you need regardless of the season. Perfect for those winter nights - Halloween, Bonfire night, even a Christmas or New Year toast, your new fire pit will be everpresent in your life.

Scandinavian updates

It’s time to look north, as our favourite Nordic brands launch a flurry of new designs demonstrating their woodworking prowess as well as their impressive furniture making legacy. Launched and exhibited at 3daysofdesign, the oh-so-chic design show which takes places across Copenhagen’s stylish showrooms and spaces each year. There was also a bevy of big birthdays as brands and individual objects demonstrated their staying power with celebratory launches, with many out-of-production pieces joining our homes once again. 2022’s new pieces didn’t stick to a trend, with colours, finishes and inspirations varying wildly – what united them was an adulation for natural materials and future-facing, sustainable choices. Here’s the Chapins’ edit of Scandinavia’s best. GUBI

Capturing the interior world’s on-going love affair with all things natural, crafted and with alluringly rounded edges, Gubi’s Basket seating collection ticks all of the 2022 boxes. Created by Joe Colombo and first produced in the late 1960s and out of production for decades, the design interprets his signature futuristic and modernist aesthetic in classic handwoven rattan basketry with a precision steel skeleton, a spirited blend of the artisanal and the industrial.

FRITZ HANSEN

The words ‘Fritz Hansen’ and ‘Egg Chair’ go hand-in-hand, paired together almost unprompted, the brand’s iconic cocoonlike seat admired around the world. Now there’s a cracking new addition to the famous family – introducing the Egg Table, an original Arne Jacobsen design created in 1952 and back with a bang for its 70th birthday. CARL HANSEN & SON

Living up to its namesake letter, the T Dining Chair designed by Ole Wanscher in 1958 has been relaunched, lightly refreshed with modernday proportions and retaining the typographical elegance of the original model. Dependant on fine craft skills, the linear design commands many hours of carpentry to achieve its signature smooth lines and tight curves, the T-shaped backrest merging seamlessly with the duo of back legs to create a three-legged feel that speaks of practicality and usefulness as well as the alphabet.

MENU

A supremely sculptural take on timber, the Eclipse Desk by Fred Rigby honours nature, resulting in roundness that tempts touch and makes sitting down to a day’s work something to look forward to. A convivial celebration of the asymmetric, its supportive steel column leg hides a multitude of cable-storage sins, fitted with a lifting lid to reveal slender hidden space. Now available in natural oak and painted black steel as well as all-over black, the two-tone material contrast gracefully juxtaposing the manufactured with the organic and instilling a sense of calm.

CANE-LINE

Known for the stylish outdoor furniture and accessories it has dedicated itself to for more than 30 years, Cane-Line is taking cover, moving indoors for the first time with the launch of two modular sofa concepts which stray away from its archetypal aesthetic of modern rattan and weaves. The collection’s buzz word is flexible, the Scale sofa, designed by byKATO created with adaptation in mind, each piece ready to cater to various lounging needs, desires, spaces and situations.

LOUIS POULSEN

A majestic entry into the eco-product charts, the PH 5 Retake is made from recycled Louis Poulsen PH 5 lamps that have issues such as dents or irregularities. The imperfect lamps, from vintage to new-but-imperfect, are stripped back to their steel core, leaving a tactile raw surface exposed before being fitted with the latest lighting technology. Left over time they’ll develop unique patinas which tell their new story.

FREDERICIA

A chair in continuous production since its design in 1947 and one of the best-selling wooden chairs in Danish history, the J39 by Børge Mogensen has had a sustainable makeover for its 75th anniversary. Fredericia is marking the occasion by returning to the seat’s material origins – handwoven sedge grass, which for the first time since it was conceived comprises the seat, a highly sustainable material, the grass grows rapidly as well as lending the chair a rich texture and an almost Mediterranean mood. VERPAN

Re-introducing Verpan’s Easy sofa, one of Verner Panton’s most distinctive designs. Created in 1964, its circular shape, intriguing backrests and sculptural quality sliding right into the 2022 aesthetic. Poised upon a double layer of upholstered discs, its u-shaped backrests form four individual seats as well as working as armrests, and can be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics and colours, from the statement to the soothing. Find each of these new launches, and more, at chaplins.co.uk, and explore the wider collection both online and at our 25’000 sq ft luxury lifestyle showroom in

Greater London. HOUSE OF FINN JUHL

Originally designed by Finn Juhl in 1948, The Whiskey chair has returned, a stately seat designed to invite – tempt? – its owner to indulge in a little me time. Crafted from rich American walnut, its gloriously smooth frame houses upholstery as well as a fold out handmade brass tray designed specifically to hold a glass or two of its namesake liquor. The revived chair comes complete with an exquisite whiskey glass mouth-blown by Danish glassmaker Mikkel Yerst.

NATURE CALLS

Biophilic design will be one of the biggest interior trends of AW22, according to eco paint specialists Victory Colours. Biophilic interiors bring elements of the natural world into our home in a bid to improve our well-being and mental health. And while houseplants and natural materials are often considered the first steps into biophilia, switching up the home’s colour scheme can also have a real impact. “You can embrace biophilia while embracing a spectrum of colours. An Amazing Transformation

The brief for Chislehurst Pristine Builders was to convert a former House of Multiple Occupancy into a beautiful family home for resale.

The project took our team just over 5 months in total to complete the refurbishment. In order to clear the house took over 20 skips! We had to remove absolutely everything and take the house back to the bare brick. The owner wanted walls removed, an extension to the kitchen and we worked alongside the owner, Architects, Structural Engineers and the owner’s estate agent, who was consulting with their chosen interior designer. Meetings were good fun, and everybody brought great ideas to the idea board. In the end the house had new skirtings, wood panelled walls, 3 new bathrooms, including a full wet room, a new kitchen with new appliances, new flooring throughout (in a herringbone pattern throughout the entire ground floor), new windows throughout, new architraves, new coving and ceiling roses, a full re-wire with new switches and sockets, a new rear garden patio and wall, a new drive. The front exterior was updated with pebble dash removed and bricks repaired. It was a big job.

The result

As the owner of the business I’m very critical and there were times I made my guys re-do elements as I just wasn’t happy. Any job I do for a client must be as good as if I was renovating my own house. In fact, I’m more critical than most of my clients are, and I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I’m happy with this project. It wasn’t without its challenges, uncovering issues are expected with such a big refurbishment, but we took it in our stride and still managed to meet our time and financial budget targets. The owner is over the moon and everyone who has seen it loves it, and that makes me happy. “Any job I do for a client must be as good as if I was renovating my own house. In fact, I’m more critical than most of my clients are, and I’m a bit of a perfectionist”

RUGS WITH A LOT OF BOTTLE

Fabulous floor coverings made from recycled plastic bottles

Whilst we all want a house beautiful, furnishings that cost the earth when it comes to the natural resources, aren’t such a good look. Thankfully, Weaver Green’s latest collection of rugs and runners ticks all the boxes when it comes to style, comfort and sustainability.

Each one is made from up to 5400 recycled plastic bottles – yet amazingly, as soft to the touch as traditional alternatives.

Hand made by skilful artisan weavers, these rugs offer a super cosy toe-cossetting covering underfoot. Yet the hardwearing nature of Weaver Green’s totally recycled (and recyclable) rugs and runners make them an ideal option for areas of heavy traffic in your home. Weaver Green’s flat woven rugs offer especially resistant protection and are great for heavy traffic zones, preventing clicks and threads from spoiling the overall aesthetic. Take the Kilim Rug collection: designed and woven to reflect the look and feel of their traditional woollen counterparts, these authentic looking floor coverings come with all of the hard-wearing features that make Weaver Green rugs such a lasting investment in your home. For those areas of the home requiring a cosier ambience, open-weave options provide a snuggly feeling as you pad softly on your way. All Weaver Green rugs and runners are suitable for use both outdoors and in as they are resistant to water, mould and mildew and are uninteresting to little critters!

AW22 Colour Prediction from Thorndown Paints

‘Green Green Grass, Blue Blue Sky’ might be the lyrics to one of this summer’s biggest earworms, but they are also the inspiration behind this Autumn’s biggest colour trends, according to eco paint specialists Thorndown.

Thorndown Design Director Caroline Thornborough believes more of us are looking to the natural world around us as we come to style our homes as temperatures drop.

She said: “The natural world has been very much in the forefront of people’s minds and consumer choices, which has had a huge impact on design.

“For the autumn and winter months, warm, comforting but darker and more striking colours are set to be used with dark lush greens such as Field Green and Yew Green, comforting warm and wholesome dark blues like Bishop Blue, and the enriching dark plum of Whortleberry set to be the perfect colours for the seasons ahead.

“Greys will also continue to be popular, with both dark greys - like Bergamot Grey - and lighter shades, such as Zinc Grey, complimenting and contrasting wonderfully with the darker more vibrant colours.”

Thorndown’s water-based wood paint is available in 72 stunning shades and is priced at £20 for a 750ml tin.
