NEW BISTRO NOW OPEN IN CHELSEA W

illett’s, the recently opened neighbourhood bistro and bar set within The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel in Chelsea, has introduced a new set lunch menu alongside ‘Willett’s Hour’, offering £8 cocktails, £6 lagers and £1 oysters and sausage rolls, available daily from 6pm to 7pm.

Willett’s takes a modern British approach to dining, centred on simplicity, seasonality and a relaxed sense of occasion. Named after William Willett, the daylight saving pioneer who once lived in the building, the restaurant references its history in a subtle way while remaining firmly contemporary. The space is designed to flow throughout the day, moving from morning coffee and light lunches through to dinner and early evening drinks, with an atmosphere that feels informal and easy rather than overly polished.

There is a strong focus on provenance, with herbs grown on site and ingredients sourced from across the UK. That same ethos runs through the new set lunch menu, priced at £32 for two courses and £36 for three. The dishes are rooted in familiar British flavours, prepared with a light touch and attention to seasonality. Highlights include hand chopped ex dairy beef with Willett’s mustard, grilled seabream with langoustine bisque and sea vegetables, and a jam roly poly served with woodruff custard.

Alongside this, ‘Willett’s Hour’ offers a more informal early evening ritual on the terrace and at the bar. Running daily from 6pm to 7pm, it is designed to make the most of the longer days, with £8 signature cocktails (usually £14), £6 lagers and £1 oysters and sausage rolls. The drinks list is built around seasonal British flavours, including Yorkshire rhubarb, smoked pear, Granny Smith apple and Isle of Wight tomato.

Taken together, the new lunch menu and ‘Willett’s Hour’ reflect Willett’s wider philosophy: straightforward cooking, quality ingredients and an inviting space that works at any time of day, whether for a quick drink, a long lunch or an unplanned stop in between. belmond.com

FINO LATINO IN SE1

Paladar is an award winning restaurant serving 100% gluten free dishes bursting with the fresh flavours of Latin America. Chef Jose Rubio Guevara takes inspiration from Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico and Brazil to create refined Latin sharing plates with a twist.

Forget any notions you may have about Latin American food comprising heavy meat platters, hearty soups and stodgy starch… This is elevated, creative cuisine that amuses the palate, offering authentic flavours, but presenting them in a new light.

Located at historic St George’s Circus — a short walk from Waterloo Station — Paladar offers several dining areas. Attached to the airy main dining room, the Chef’s Table is in a semi private area located directly in front of the theatrical open kitchen – this is perfect for parties of 8 10 guests.

For a larger private party, the Amazon Lounge is a cosy, atmospheric room decorated in three dimensional mixed media by Colombian artist Rafael Rosas. This room suits parties of 15 20 guests.

But the covered conservatory garden is the real hidden gem and perhaps one of the most romantic places to dine in London. This area can be used year round, but really comes into its own during the warmer summer months. It is easy to

forget that you are in London in this hide away – and many guests tell us that it feels as if they are transported to Latin America itself!

Paladar is not just about the food and the ambience… the philosophy is to showcase the best of Latin America – whether that be food, drinks, music, art or warm, friendly hospitality.

The exclusively South American wine list, for example, showcases the diversity of grape varieties, styles and terroir from across the region, while the bar staff shake up classic and signature house cocktails based on top quality Latin American spirits.

Meanwhile, the restaurant’s walls play host to changing exhibitions of art by Latin American artists, or works inspired by Latin America. This gives artists the opportunity to show and sell their works – and gives the restaurant a fresh “make over” every three months!

IS YOUR NAME ON A BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

WHY IT MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK

Abirth certificate feels like a simple document. A record of a moment. But in the eyes of the law, it is far more than that; and for some families, what’s written on it can become the source of years of uncertainty.

When a father’s name appears on a child’s birth certificate, it confers legal rights and responsibilities towards the child. This is known as parental responsibility. And those rights don’t disappear if a man later discovers he is not the child’s biological father.

Mistakes do happen. A father may have been named in good faith, only for DNA testing years later to tell a different story. In other cases, the truth of paternity was unclear at the time of registration. Whatever the reason, the legal consequences can be significant.

To correct a birth certificate, it must be proven that the recorded information is wrong, typically through a DNA test or a court order. An application is then made to the General Register Office. Importantly, the original entry isn’t deleted; a correction note is added alongside it. If the proven biological father is to be added, the birth must be re registered entirely. Where paternity is disputed and both parties cannot agree, either can apply to the family court for a formal declaration: a legal ruling on who is, or is not, the child’s parent.

These issues came sharply into focus in the landmark Court of Appeal case Re J, Re M and Re P [2026]. Maria Conesa Gonzalez, Partner and Head of J&P’s Complex Children and Cross border Disputes team, represents one of the appellants in the Re P case, which confirmed that whilst biology sits at the heart of legal fatherhood, every case must be considered on its own facts, and parental responsibility is not always removed automatically.

At J&P, we understand that behind every case like this is a family facing real and difficult questions. Our team approaches each matter with sensitivity, clarity and a focus on the child’s welfare above all else. If you have concerns about parentage, parental rights, or any other family law matter, call us on 020 8290 0333 or email info@judge-priestley.co.uk

A NEW CHAPTER IN EVERY GLASS

“A beautiful family-led vineyard — the wines never fail to surprise.”

Abingworth Vineyard began with a simple question: what if they just went for it?

In 2021, the decision was made to turn a lifelong dream into reality, leading them to Champions Farm in West Sussex — a place with a long history and a landscape perfectly suited to its next chapter in viticulture.

This land has been lived on for centuries. There are traces of Roman activity beneath the fields, Tudor elements in the farmhouse, a poetic link to the Shelley family, and generations of farming woven into its story. It has also become a source of inspiration for the vineyard’s wine labels, which honour the quirky tales that make it so unique. Today, it begins its next chapter as a boutique, family run vineyard and winery.

Abingworth is run by Chris and Caroline Stedman and their four daughters. From the beginning, it has been a hands on venture, with collaborative decision making, work in the fields, and ideas constantly moving between vineyard, winery, and kitchen table.

The focus is on producing elegant English still wines that reflect

both the site and the wider South Downs landscape. The vineyard sits on free draining, mineral rich soils, and a low intervention approach is used to allow the fruit to express itself naturally. In winter, sheep graze between the vines, helping to care for the land in a natural way.

The winery has been purpose built to support this approach, combining modern technology with traditional techniques so the character of the fruit shines through.

Even the wine names and labels carry part of the story, drawn from the history and quirks of the land and illustrated by one of the daughters.

Guests are now being welcomed to the vineyard for tastings and tours this summer.

“A private yacht creates a serene setting where freedom and adventure meet, framed by spectacular coastal scenery and expansive sea views”

Increasingly, discerning travellers are seeking experiences that feel personal rather than performative. They value meaningful moments over material possessions, intimacy over spectacle and flexibility over rigid schedules. A private yacht answers that desire beautifully, offering complete freedom to explore the coastline at a pace that feels entirely your own.

One family may spend the day celebrating generations together, creating memories far removed from crowded restaurants or conventional venues. Another charter may be centred around an unforgettable proposal beneath a spectacular coastal sunset, while others gather friends to mark milestone birthdays in an atmosphere that is both relaxed and elegant. No two days are ever alike, because no two clients are looking for exactly the same experience.

Corporate entertaining has embraced this new definition of luxury. Away from boardrooms and hotel meeting spaces, a private yacht creates an environment where conversations unfold naturally against the backdrop of open water and expansive views. Whether rewarding a high performing team, strengthening client relationships or celebrating business success, the experience leaves a lasting impression precisely because it feels so different from the expected.

It is this highly personal approach that has quietly established All Decked Out Charter as one of the South Coast’s leading names in luxury yacht experiences. Extensive local knowledge, trusted relationships throughout the marine industry and an instinctive understanding of exceptional hospitality allow every charter to be carefully matched to everyone on board. The result is not simply a beautifully organised day but one that feels entirely effortless from beginning to end.

The Jurassic South Coastline has long been one of Britain’s most captivating cruising destinations. From the iconic silhouette of The Needles and the hidden anchorages surrounding the Isle of Wight to picturesque marinas, charming harbours and award winning waterfront restaurants, it offers a richness of experiences that can only truly be appreciated from the water.

Perhaps that is the enduring appeal of a private yacht charter. It is the freedom to escape the ordinary, discover the coastline from an entirely different perspective and enjoy an experience that feels exclusive as it it unforgettable.

Because the finest days are rarely measured by where they take you. They are remembered for how they made you feel long after you’ve returned to shore.

How Families Explore Differently with Powder Byrne in Summer

At Powder Byrne, the belief has always been that a family holiday should offer something more than simply spending time away together. It should give every member of the family the freedom to experience the mountains in their own way, while still sharing the same destination, the same special moments, and the same sense of discovery.

In summer, this idea becomes especially powerful. The Swiss Alps open into a vast playground of lakes, forests, trails and alpine villages, offering endless ways to explore. What makes a Powder Byrne summer different is not just where families go, but how they experience it.

Children and Teenagers: Growing Through Adventure

For children and teenagers, exploration is built into every part of the day.

Powder Byrne’s carefully designed children’s programmes are tailored to different age groups, ensuring every child enjoys activities that suit their stage of development while encouraging confidence, independence and a love of the outdoors.

Scallywags (ages 4–8) introduces younger children to the mountains through play, creativity and gentle adventure, with activities including arts and crafts, swimming, tennis, cookery and outdoor exploration. TheZone (ages 8–11) builds on that foundation with a wider variety of sports, water based activities and team challenges, while Adventure Academy (ages 12–16) offers teenagers more adventurous experiences, from mountain biking and golfing to watersports and alpine adventures, all designed to encourage resilience, teamwork and self belief.

Across every programme, the common thread is time spent outdoors, trying new activities, making friends and discovering new interests in a safe, supportive environment led by experienced staff.

Parents Exploring Their Own Way

One of the aspects families value most about a Powder Byrne summer holiday is the opportunity for everyone to enjoy the mountains differently.

While children are immersed in their own adventures, parents have the freedom to choose the pace that suits them best. Some spend their days hiking scenic alpine trails, cycling through spectacular landscapes or enjoying a round of golf surrounded by mountain views. Others prefer a slower pace, making the most of luxurious spa facilities, leisurely lakeside lunches or simply taking in the scenery with a coffee in hand.

In selected resorts, Powder Byrne also offers guided experiences, allowing parents to discover hidden walking routes, traditional mountain restaurants and breathtaking viewpoints with the insight of knowledgeable local guides. These curated experiences help guests uncover parts of the Alps they may never have found on their own.

Coming Back Together

What makes the Powder Byrne approach unique is not separation, but reunion. Each day naturally ends with families coming back together to share stories from entirely different experiences of the same destination.

Children eagerly recount new friendships and adventures, while parents exchange tales of scenic hikes, hidden mountain restaurants or peaceful afternoons spent unwinding.

These shared conversations often become some of the most memorable moments of the holiday. Seeing the same destination through different perspectives enriches the experience for everyone and creates lasting family memories.

A Different Kind of Family Holiday

The Swiss Alps provide an extraordinary backdrop, but it is Powder Byrne’s philosophy that truly shapes the holiday experience.

By creating thoughtfully planned programmes for children alongside flexible experiences for adults, Powder Byrne gives every member of the family the freedom to explore in the way that suits them best. Rather than following a single itinerary, families enjoy the perfect balance of independence and togetherness, returning home with individual stories, shared experiences and memories that last long after the holiday has ended.

“Seeing the same destination through different perspectives enriches the experience for everyone and creates lasting family memories”

Because when families are given the space to explore differently, they come back together with even more to share.

The programme spans music, wellness, gastronomy, art, and marine conservation across three days and two resorts – moving through a natural daily rhythm from reflective mornings to conversational afternoons, to gatherings in the evenings and performances into the night.

Golden Globe, Emmy and Olivier Award winning and BAFTA and Academy Award nominated actor Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Saltburn) headlines the 2026 festival as a returning guest and has been part of shaping this edition from the inside.

Alongside Rosamund Pike, the 2026 programme brings together an exceptional group of artists, designers, and culinary talents. Globally recognised designer and cultural tastemaker Sean Wotherspoon — best known for the iconic Nike Air Max 1/97 collaboration and his influence across fashion, streetwear, and sustainability culture — joins the festival to create a collective art installation and design the official festival merchandise.

Cult French musician, producer, and creative icon Sébastian

Tellier, recently appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, closes the festival with a live piano set on the final night. Michelin starred Hong Kong born chef and founder of Parisian neo bistrot SENsation Chef Samuel Lee brings his refined Cantonese cooking — precise, and shaped by contemporary French influences — across the festival nights.

WAGYUMAFIA, the Tokyo born dining collective internationally known for redefining luxury beef culture through exclusive omakase experiences and a devoted celebrity following, arrives at Fari Islands with a bold culinary showcase across the festival. Ranked No. 5 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2025, Dry Wave Cocktail Studio will partner with Michter’s for narrative led cocktail experiences.

Danilo Pozone, Global Brand Manager of Sei Bellissimi, official sponsor of The World’s 50 Best Hotels, joins the festival to host curated experiences centred around fine spirits and cocktail culture.

Wellness by Bamford returns for a second year as the festival’s wellness partner, led by CJ Jones Leake and Stephanie Waxberg. Bamford will offer a new signature treatment at both resorts’ spas alongside nutrition sessions and movement workshops.

What Should Sixth Form Be For?

What should the final years of school be for? Examination preparation? Certainly. Securing a place at the university course of your choice? Undoubtedly. Yet at The King’s School Canterbury, the Sixth Form is built around a broader ambition: to give pupils the freedoms, responsibilities and intellectual opportunities that might not always be available elsewhere.

Through our ‘Super Curriculum’, tailored subject pathways and opportunities to move beyond exam specifications, King’s creates a learning environment that cultivates curiosity: independent research, intellectual risk taking and the confidence to pursue ideas for their own sake. It is this philosophy that prompted children’s author and former King’s pupil Michael Morpurgo to describe the school as “a university for young people”. Rather than simply preparing pupils for university, King’s gives them the opportunity to experience an intellectual life more often associated with it.

Central to this philosophy is the King’s Sixth Form Enrichment Programme. As a ‘launchpad for intellectual adventure’, it allows pupils to choose a pathway that matches their interests while supplementing their main subjects with extension and enrichment options.

On a typical Wednesday afternoon, one Sixth Former might be learning Japanese while another researches the ethics of artificial intelligence for an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). At a time when many sixth forms are becoming increasingly examination focused, King’s

deliberately carves out time for intellectual exploration.

The breadth of opportunities is striking. With more than 32 post 16 courses on offer, pupils encounter an academic choice more commonly associated with university. Structured teaching and independent research are complemented by over 100 clubs and societies, each organising events and lectures throughout the year. More than 650 music lessons are delivered each week by over 50 specialist teachers, while 25 ensembles rehearse regularly. Last year, 18 productions were staged in the purpose built Malthouse Theatre, and pupils could choose from over 20 sports, including cricket, fencing, rowing and sailing.

Pupils also benefit from the King’s Oxbridge Plus seminars, combining academic stretch with lively small group discussion, alongside personalised guidance from the Futures Team. The diversity of our city campus further reinforces this open intellectual culture. Each year group includes more than 200 pupils, around 70 joining from other schools and representing 39 nationalities.

Perhaps that is what Michael Morpurgo meant by a “university for young people”: not a place that guides pupils down a narrow academic path, but one that gives them the knowledge, freedom and perspectives to discover what they want to become.

TALBOT HEATH: BUILDING ON STRONG FOUNDATIONS AND LOOKING AHEAD

Since joining Talbot Heath as Head in Easter 2026, I have been struck by the warmth, ambition and sense of purpose that defines this remarkable school. Relocating from Cambridgeshire to take on this role was a significant decision for my family and I, but it has quickly become clear that Talbot Heath is a very special community with an exciting future ahead.

As the school recently celebrated its 140th anniversary, I have enjoyed learning more about its proud heritage. For generations, Talbot Heath has combined academic excellence with outstanding pastoral care, helping young people develop not only the knowledge and skills to succeed, but also the character, confidence and resilience needed to thrive in an ever changing world. Those values remain just as relevant today as they were when the school was founded.

In my short time here, one of the greatest pleasures has been meeting families from across the school through my regular Coffee & Catch Up sessions and attending a variety of events. I firmly believe that a Head should be visible, approachable and accessible. Taking the time to listen to parents, hear their perspectives and get to know the families who entrust us with their children’s education is incredibly important. These conversations have reinforced just how strongly people feel about Talbot Heath and the opportunities it provides.

I have also been fortunate to experience some of the highlights of the school year, including the traditional and quirky Birthday, Sports Days and Speech Day. Each event showcased the breadth of talent, determination and community spirit that exists throughout the school. Watching students celebrate each other’s achievements, whether in sport, academics, the arts or wider endeavours, was a powerful reminder of what makes Talbot Heath unique.

What excites me most, however, is the future. Talbot Heath is a school with strong foundations, a clear sense of purpose and the confidence to innovate. At a time when the independent education sector faces significant challenges, we are looking ahead with optimism. There are a number of exciting developments in planning, and we look forward to developing these over the course of the next year.

Talbot Heath has been inspiring young people for 140 years. I am delighted to be part of its next chapter and excited about what we can achieve together.

MORE THAN A GAME: SETTING THE STAGE FOR LIFELONG SUCCESS

As football fever grips the nation and major international tournaments remind us why sport captures the imagination like few other things can, there is a school in the Dorset countryside where those values are lived every day.

At Clayesmore, sport is far more than an extracurricular activity. It is central to school life, built on the belief that physical challenge, teamwork and resilience are as important to a child’s development as academic achievement. In an age when concerns about young people’s wellbeing and activity levels continue to grow, that philosophy feels more relevant than ever.

The greatest sporting nations understand that elite success and widespread participation go hand in hand. You cannot produce exceptional performers without first creating a culture in which everyone has the opportunity to take part, improve and enjoy sport. That principle sits at the heart of Clayesmore’s approach.

Under the leadership of its Director of Sport and dedicated coaching team, Clayesmore delivers an ambitious and inclusive programme. Daily sport is embedded into the timetable, ensuring pupils remain active throughout the week rather than only at set times. Fixtures are extensive and inclusive, giving large numbers of pupils the opportunity to represent the

school across a wide range of sports, while performance squads benefit from high quality coaching and structured development pathways.

Consistent success across hockey, rugby, netball, athletics and swimming reflects this thriving, well supported sporting culture, alongside achievements such as eleven consecutive appearances in The Cricketer’s Top 100 Cricket Schools and back to back South West T20 Cup titles.

What truly defines sport at Clayesmore though is participation and personal growth. Pupils of all abilities are encouraged to get involved, challenge themselves and find enjoyment in sport, whatever their starting point. Sport also builds a strong sense of community, with younger pupils training alongside older students and staff playing an active role in fixtures and training.

Perhaps that is why sport remains such a powerful force in education. Long after the final whistle, the lessons endure: determination, discipline, teamwork and the confidence gained from striving towards a goal.

The World Cup showcases sporting success on the global stage; Clayesmore shows that creating sporting opportunities for every child can lead to lifelong success on their own stage.

To find out how Clayesmore can set the stage for your child’s future, please contact the Admissions Team or visit the school website.

PREPARING PATHWAYS FOR SUCCESS

How Clapham’s leading prep school is supporting children to thrive in their next chapter

Head of Broomwood Girls, Louisa McCafferty, discusses how Broomwood prepares pupils and families for 11+ and 13+ ensuring the pathway is the one best suited for the child.

For a long time, 13+ prep schools have offered a distinctive pathway bridging the gap between a traditional primary model and senior school education. This model gives children additional time to develop, with many schools preparing pupils in Years 7 and 8 for Common Entrance examinations,

often to boarding schools.

By contrast, London prep schools have, in the main, long offered dual pathways that give families genuine choice at both 11+ and 13+. This reflects a simple principle: the right next step should be determined by the needs of the child, not the structure of the school.

For parents, this naturally raises important questions. Is a London day school the right destination? Does location matter most? Would a hybrid model or flexi boarding better suit their child? Or would an additional two years in a prep environment allow greater confidence and maturity to develop?

These are the right questions to ask. Children change over time, and it is essential that families and schools continue to reflect on what will best support each individual at each stage of their journey.

At Broomwood Prep, we have always prepared pupils for both 11+ and 13+ entry,

and we believe this flexibility is central to our commitment to the whole child. It ensures that ambition is matched with understanding, and that success is defined by the right pathway, not a single route.

However, it is sometimes assumed that 13+ schools prepare pupils primarily for boarding entry and therefore place less emphasis on 11+ success. This is a misconception we frequently encounter. In reality, strong schools can and do excel across both pathways, maintaining one standard of excellence while keeping the child firmly at the centre.

We should therefore view this model as a strength. Every child’s journey is different, and a one size fits all approach can be limiting. Some pupils benefit from more time to develop; others are ready to thrive in a new environment at 11+. A 13+ setting such as Broomwood allows for both, and supports each exceptionally well.

Over recent years, we have seen a growing number of families seeking flexibility as they navigate senior school decisions. With the rise of pre testing and early offers, most pupils now sit external assessments in Year 6, whether they are leaving at 11+ or remaining until 13+. This shift has, in effect, aligned the admissions landscape across day and boarding schools and reduced the dominance of traditional Common Entrance preparation.

At Broomwood, our approach reflects this change. Preparation for senior school begins in Year 5, when pupils enter our Middle Phase. From this point, we focus on developing agility and confidence across both digital and written assessments, supported by regular in class testing, targeted intervention, and increasing independence in learning.

A distinctive advantage of our school is our extended day, which allows for additional stretch and support within the timetable. Pupils also complete homework in school, supported by teachers, ensuring that preparation is structured, balanced, and carefully guided.

Alongside academic preparation, pupils benefit from interview practice, mock interviews, and focused sessions on exam technique, including how to approach different assessment formats. These are designed to ensure pupils are calm, confident, and well prepared for the process ahead.

This support extends to families as well as pupils. We meet each family individually in Year 4 and again at the end of Year 5 to guide decision making and discuss senior school options. These conversations evolve over time, reflecting the fact that children grow, circumstances change, and the right destination at nine may not be the same at eleven or thirteen.

Throughout this process, we are careful not to reduce education to preparation alone. While academic rigour is essential, so too is enjoyment, curiosity, and balance. We believe that excessive pressure can undermine confidence, and we work deliberately to ensure

that pupils remain positive, motivated, and secure in their learning.

Our pupils’ outcomes speak for themselves. This year, Broomwood Prep pupils have achieved a record number of scholarships, alongside offers to a wide range of senior schools at both 11+ and 13+. At 11+, in particular, pupils have secured places at highly competitive London day schools including City of London, James Allen’s Girls’ School, Alleyn’s, Putney High, and Wimbledon High, alongside strong outcomes at leading boarding schools at 13+.

The strength of the Broomwood approach lies in understanding what readiness looks like for each child. Some pupils thrive at 11+ and transition confidently into larger senior environments. Others benefit from remaining in a familiar setting, where they enter our Senior Phase and follow our Future Ready Curriculum – a two year programme designed to build independence, resilience, and maturity in preparation for life beyond prep school.

Our role is not to fit children into a system, but to prepare them for the pathway that best suits them.

PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE FOR LIFE BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Education today is about far more than academic results alone. While strong examination outcomes remain important, there is growing recognition that young people must also be equipped with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and fast changing world. Preparing students for life beyond the classroom has become a central focus of modern education.

Critical thinking is one of the most valuable skills students can develop. In a digital age where information is abundant, the ability to analyse, question and evaluate ideas is essential. Encouraging curiosity and independent thought helps young people become confident decision makers, capable of navigating challenges both in further education and in their future careers

“Critical thinking is one of the most valuable skills students can develop. In a digital age where information is abundant, the ability to analyse, question and evaluate ideas is essential”

Equally important is creativity. Whether expressed through the arts, problem solving or innovation, creativity allows students to approach situations with flexibility and imagination. Education that values creative thinking alongside academic rigour fosters resilience and adaptability – qualities that are increasingly sought after in higher education and the workplace.

Communication and collaboration also play a vital role. Learning to articulate ideas clearly, listen to others and work effectively as part

of a team prepares students for real world environments. These skills are developed not only through classroom discussion, but also through group projects, extracurricular activities and community engagement.

Wellbeing has become another key consideration in education. Supporting emotional resilience, self confidence and balance enables students to perform at their best academically while maintaining a healthy relationship with learning. Schools that prioritise wellbeing help young people develop coping strategies that will serve them long after formal education ends.

Finally, a broader perspective on global citizenship is essential, particularly in a diverse and international city like London. Exposure to different cultures, viewpoints and experiences encourages empathy, open mindedness and a sense of responsibility beyond one’s immediate surroundings.

By combining academic excellence with personal development, modern education aims to nurture well rounded individuals who are prepared not only for exams, but for life. In doing so, it empowers young people to step confidently into the future, ready to contribute positively to society and adapt to whatever challenges lie ahead.

BUFF MEDICAL RESORT:

Where Prevention and Longevity Meets Luxury on Lake Constance

There are places people visit to relax. And then there are places that fundamentally redefine the way we think about health, vitality, and the future of aging. Buff Medical Resort on the shores of Lake Constance in southern Germany unquestionably belongs to the latter.

Far beyond the concept of a traditional wellness retreat or conventional medical clinic, Buff Medical Resort has established itself as one of Europe’s most exceptional destinations for preventive medicine and longevity. Here, state of the art medical diagnostics meet the refined elegance of luxury hospitality, creating an environment where guests can actively invest in their long term health without compromising on comfort, privacy, or luxury.

At the heart of the resort’s philosophy lies a simple yet increasingly important question: How can we extend our healthspan and remain healthy, energetic, and independent for as long as possible?

The answer is found in a highly personalized approach that combines medical expertise with advanced diagnostics, nutrition, movement, metabolic optimization, restorative sleep, regeneration, and evidence based preventive

medicine. Rather than waiting for illness to develop, the resort focuses on identifying potential health risks at an early stage and empowering guests to preserve and optimize their health for the years ahead.

Every stay begins with a comprehensive medical assessment. Depending on each guest’s individual health profile and personal objectives, programmes may include cardiovascular screening, metabolic analysis, extensive laboratory diagnostics, hormone testing, microbiome analysis, neurological assessments, and functional movement evaluations. The goal is to create an exceptionally detailed picture of each guest’s current state of health and develop a tailored strategy to enhance vitality, performance, and healthy aging.

Among the resort’s most outstanding features is its cutting edge imaging technology. Guests have access to advanced cardiac MRI examinations and innovative brain scans, providing highly detailed insights into cardiovascular and neurological health. These non invasive diagnostic procedures are becoming increasingly important in modern longevity medicine,

allowing potential health risks to be identified significantly earlier than with conventional preventive screenings.

Medical excellence is complemented by an environment specifically designed to promote regeneration. Nestled within a private lakeside park overlooking Lake Constance, the resort combines tranquility, nature, and contemporary architectural elegance. Spacious suites, sophisticated interiors, and uninterrupted panoramic lake views create an atmosphere that nurtures both physical recovery and mental well being.

One of Buff Medical Resort’s most innovative concepts is its simulated altitude climate therapy. Every suite and guest room can be equipped with individually prescribed altitude air during the night. By carefully adjusting oxygen levels, this scientifically guided therapy aims to stimulate regenerative processes, support cellular function, enhance mitochondrial performance the function of the body’s cellular power plants that are essential for energy production, metabolism, and vitality and improve recovery, sleep quality, and overall well being.

Nutrition also plays a central role within the resort’s preventive medicine philosophy. As a certified MayrPrevent® Center, Buff Medical Resort integrates modern F.X. Mayr Medicine into its medical programs, placing particular emphasis on intestinal health, microbiome balance, metabolic optimization, and sustainable lifestyle transformation. The carefully curated Longevity Cuisine combines medical science with culinary excellence, demonstrating that health focused nutrition can be both highly effective and genuinely enjoyable.

Physical fitness is supported through

a holistic movement concept that includes personal training, physiotherapy, functional movement analysis, strength training, yoga, and restorative exercise sessions. As maintaining muscle health has become one of the key pillars of healthy aging, particular emphasis is placed on preserving strength, mobility, and resilience well into later life.

Complementing its medical programs, the resort also offers an extensive spa and wellness area featuring saunas, indoor pool, hydrotherapy, Ayurvedic treatments, breathwork, and a variety of mind body practices. Together, these elements create a truly holistic experience in which advanced medicine and deep relaxation seamlessly coexist.

“True longevity is not simply about adding more years to life, but about extending healthspan and adding more life to those years,” says Hans Jürg Buff, Founder and CEO of Buff Medical Resort.

“Our mission is to provide our guests with medical knowledge, scientific insights, and personalized strategies they need to remain healthy, active, and independent for as long as possible.”

At a time when health has become one of life’s greatest luxuries, Buff Medical Resort offers something increasingly rare: the opportunity to pause, gain new perspective, and consciously invest in one’s future. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Lake Constance and supported by world class medical expertise, guests discover that longevity and healthspan are far more than trends they are a way of life.. buff-medical-resort.com

V& A Museum Presents SCHIAPARELLI: FASHION BECOMES ART

The Sainsbury Gallery, until 8 November 2026

The first exhibition ever staged in the UK devoted to Schiaparelli. Spanning the 1920s to the present day, the exhibition charts the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most innovative fashion designers, Elsa Schiaparelli. The show traces the origins of the house, from its first, paradigm shifting garments, through to its present day incarnation in the hands of its creative director, Daniel Roseberry.

Featuring new research undertaken by art and fashion curators focused on the creative collaborations and output of founder Elsa Schiaparelli, the exhibition places her at the nexus of innovation, a key figure within a stellar sphere of fashion, art and performance which spanned the cities of Paris, London, and New York in the years between the two world wars and up to her retirement in 1954. It highlights the history of a female entrepreneur and showcases her celebrated, yet little seen garments from the history of fashion.

The exhibition is the first of its kind to spotlight the London branch of Schiaparelli, its dynamic and independent clients and the founder’s own involvement in the satellite location.

The exhibition comprises over 200 objects, including garments, accessories, jewellery, paintings, photographs, sculpture, furniture, perfumes and archive material. The diversity of media, styles and subjects celebrates the house of Schiaparelli’s boundless creativity. The V&A holds some of Elsa Schiaparelli’s most radical designs. The exhibition features the V&A’s ‘Skeleton’ dress and the ‘Tears’ dress, along with a hat shaped to look like an upside down shoe, all conceived in collaboration with Salvador Dalí.

Artworks by Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau and Man Ray are also on display. The exhibition references the popularity of Schiaparelli’s

designs for film and theatre productions. Schiaparelli possessed a vibrant artistic sensibility. Turning ordinary items into innovative clothing, accessories and jewellery, she created the most memorable fashions of the day. Her couture house, the most discussed of interwar Paris, redefined standards of style and definitions of beauty.

Today, from the iconic Schiaparelli atelier at 21 Place Vendôme, creative director Daniel Roseberry accompanies the storied Maison into its next chapter, establishing an oeuvre that continues to shape and inspire global culture today.

SKIN VEILING

KOSAS CLOUD SET POWDER

£32, AVAILABLE AT CULT BEAUTY AND SEPHORA UK

2026’s sheer-layering movement is redefining complexion perfection, replacing heavy coverage with translucent, second-skin luminosity.

After several years dominated by either full glam sculpting or glass skin shine, beauty is moving into a more refined middle ground. The latest complexion trend, known as Skin Veiling, focuses on creating a barely there finish through strategic, sheer layers that enhance rather than conceal. The result is skin that looks naturally perfected –breathable, dimensional and quietly luxurious.

At the centre of Skin Veiling is the idea that coverage should be built like fabric: lightweight, flexible and almost imperceptible. Rather than masking the face in one uniform layer, products are applied selectively in thin washes, allowing natural skin texture, freckles and tonal variation to remain visible. The effect feels polished but deeply authentic, reflecting a wider appetite for realism in beauty.

The trend has emerged alongside fashion’s growing obsession with transparency, fluid fabrics and understated elegance. Just as organza, mesh and silk layering have returned to the runway, makeup is mirroring that same philosophy. Skin appears softly filtered, not perfected beyond recognition. It is less about transformation and more about refinement.

Complexion products are evolving to support this shift. Skin tints, serum foundations and lightweight concealers are becoming

the backbone of everyday makeup routines, replacing heavier matte formulas. Instead of creating a blank canvas, they work to unify tone while preserving movement and light. Strategic concealing around the nose, chin or under eyes becomes more important than all over coverage.

Glow within Skin Veiling is subtle and controlled. Unlike the wet look finishes that dominated previous years, luminosity is concentrated in targeted points – the tops of cheeks, temples and the bridge of the nose – creating dimension without overt shine. Powder still plays a role, but only where needed, helping maintain balance rather than flattening the complexion.

The rest of the face follows suit. Blush is soft and sheer, often in skin like peach, rose or muted terracotta tones, while bronzer is diffused seamlessly into the perimeter of the face. Eyes are kept minimal, often with cream shadows or softly defined lashes, allowing the skin itself to remain the focal point. Lips are lightly stained or glossed, enhancing their natural tone.

Part of Skin Veiling’s appeal lies in its practicality. Lightweight layers tend to wear more gracefully throughout the day, making touch ups simpler and reducing the risk of caking or separation. It is particularly suited to warmer months, travel and long event days, where comfort matters as much as appearance.

Ultimately, Skin Veiling reflects a broader beauty mood: intentional restraint. In place of obvious artistry comes something quieter, fresher and more sophisticated. It celebrates skin as it is, softened only where necessary, and suggests that modern beauty is no longer about covering everything – but revealing just enough.

A SMALL CHANGE, A REMARKABLE RESULT

If you’ve spent years adjusting your hair or avoiding certain angles in photos because of your earlobes, you’re not alone...there’s a simple solution and he’s called Mr Sadri

With summer in full swing, and Aperols flowing it’s no wonder those statement earrings have come out to play. Whether you’re sporting the snazzy diamond earrings you persuaded your husband to buy you as your ‘ I love you present’ or that pair of colourful Accessorize earrings you bought at the airport to match your outfit for the wedding in the south of France, those ear lobes are slowly being stretched.

The solution we all resort to is trying to adjust our hair to subtly cover the ear lobe without covering the earring, an art that takes hours perfecting in front of the mirror while I for one am painfully aware the actual piercing hole is being stretched! The predicament sets in... do I stop wearing those diamonds that I made my husband remortgage his life for, or do I do something about it. The latter sounds way more appealing.

So I make my way to The London Clinic to see Mr Amir Sadri, the no nonsense plastic surgeon, whose stitching is apparently the neatest in London. His honesty during my consultation is surprisingly refreshing. No pierced earrings for a month afterwards...

those vintage Chanel clip ons my mother gave me in the 80’s will be making a comeback while I’m in recovery.

Mr Sadri assures me that no one will notice I’ve had any work done. The last thing I want is to be discussed over lunch at Daphne’s with the obvious question ‘if she’s had her ears done what next?’. My belief is that surgery should be subtle and look natural.

Consultation over and I’m sold. I immediately book into have my procedure in 2 weeks time. This means I can use Cornwall as my downtime. My sun hat and Prada sunnies will avert any nosey eyes away from my ears. Perfect!

Two weeks later and I’m raring and ready to go. The procedure is under local anaesthetic and I’m met by the charming Mr Sadri himself to go through my consent forms. He is kind and puts me at ease, he explains the most painful part is when he injects the anaesthetic into my earlobes.

During my surgery He’s matter of fact and swift. Concentrating on the job in hand while I chat to the nurses who are charming. We chat about kids and holidays until it’s over. I look in the mirror expecting to look bruised, like I’ve been bitten by a dog but I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s hardly noticeable and with my hair strategically placed in front of my ears no one will notice.

The pain minimal, the results magical! He really does live up to his incredible reputation, and now holds a firm place in my little black book. In the taxi on the way home, I can’t help but browse his website, what else can he do for me? What can I get done in time for Christmas...... amirsadri.com

TAKING YOUR FIRST STEPS ON YOUR FERTILITY JOURNEY

Whether you’re just starting to think about growing your family, or already navigating the process, it’s natural to want the best possible chance. We spoke to Professor Nick Macklon, Medical Director of the London Women’s Clinic, for his expert guidance — with our patients across Essex in mind.

Preparing Your Body

1. Embrace a Mediterranean diet

“There’s good evidence that a Mediterranean diet improves egg and sperm quality,” says Professor Macklon. Think colourful vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, dairy and eggs.

2. Don’t overspend on supplements

A balanced diet covers most of what your body needs. There are three vitamins worth adding in: folic acid, omega 3 and vitamin D.

3. Quit smoking — and vaping too

Smoking affects both egg and sperm quality, and while vaping is less harmful, the nicotine still has an impact.

4. Aim for a healthy BMI

Being significantly over or underweight

— a BMI below 19 — can affect ovulation. “Your body wants to feel ready to invest in somebody else so it can

carry a pregnancy,” Professor Macklon explains.

5. Reduce your alcohol intake

An occasional glass of wine is fine. “It’s when you’re drinking more than eight or nine units a week that it might have a detrimental effect,” says Professor Macklon.

When You’re Actively Trying

6. Time it right — but not too precisely

“The most fertile day is actually two days before ovulation. When your test turns positive, you’ll ovulate in around 36 hours — and that’s when most pregnancies occur,” says Professor Macklon.

7. Keep intimacy enjoyable

“Don’t make it a chore — once on your fertile days is genuinely enough,” advises Professor Macklon.

8. Know when to seek help

If you’re under 37, consider see a specialist after a year of trying; if you’re over 37, go after six months. “If you’re anxious, seek help any time,” says Professor Macklon.

THE PSYCHOLOGY BEHIND EXCEPTIONAL HOMES

How BAYA is injecting personality into the heart of luxury interiors

Somewhere along the way, luxury interiors became obsessed with perfection. Impeccable marble. Flawless joinery. Beautifully balanced colour palettes. Yet many of the world’s most expensive homes have become anonymous. For Karl Openshaw, Creative Director and co creator of BAYA Interiors, great design isn’t about designing a house that looks beautiful. It’s about creating one that couldn’t belong to anyone else.

“Interior design starts with a conversation, not a colour chart,” says Karl. “Before we think about colour, materials or furniture, we want to understand how someone lives. Are they constantly entertaining? Do they work from home? Where do they escape to after a long

day? Where does the family naturally gather? The answers to those questions should shape the design far more than the latest trend.”

The owner of BAYA’s latest penthouse at Chelsea Waterfront’s Tower East leads a life that’s constantly evolving, and their home evolves with it. In the morning, it’s a place of quiet focus. By lunchtime, it’s the backdrop to family life. In the evening, it transforms effortlessly into a setting for generous entertaining, where conversations begin around the kitchen and continue long after dinner has been cleared away. And when the last guest leaves, it becomes somewhere to exhale, recharge and simply be.

“We don’t design rooms,” says Karl. “We

design the moments that happen inside them. The coffee before everyone else wakes up. Friends gathering around the kitchen while dinner is cooking. Reading in the afternoon sun. The rituals that make a house feel like home. If you understand those moments, the design almost starts to reveal itself.”

That thinking shapes every corner of the penthouse. Rather than creating one vast open plan room, BAYA has choreographed a series of distinct yet interconnected spaces, each supporting a different rhythm of daily life. The generous living area is arranged around curved sofas that naturally encourage conversation, while the building’s distinctive diamond shaped geometry is embraced through bespoke joinery that transforms structural columns into welcoming architectural features.

sculptural headboards transform functional dividing walls into architectural centrepieces, wrapping each room in warmth, texture and a reassuring sense of sanctuary. Layered materials, carefully considered lighting and tactile finishes create spaces designed as much for emotional restoration as physical comfort.

For Karl, the measure of a successful interior isn’t whether it photographs beautifully, but how people feel in the space, and how it transforms someone’s everyday life.

“The best compliment I can receive isn’t that someone loves the colours or furniture. It’s when they tell me their children always end up gathering in the kitchen after school, or they’ve found a favourite spot to read. That’s when you know you’ve designed more than an interior. You’ve designed a home that genuinely works for the people living in it.”

Perhaps that’s the biggest shift taking place in luxury interiors today. Design is moving away from homes designed to impress and towards homes designed to express. Homes with personality over perfection. Homes that reflect the lives, rituals and stories of the people who inhabit them. Because great design doesn’t begin with a colour palette. It begins with understanding people. Bayainteriors.co.uk; 0333 533 0850; info@bayainteriors.co.uk

At the centre of the home sits an 18 foot stone island, not simply as a place to prepare meals, but as the social heart of the apartment. Guests naturally gather there with a glass of wine while dinner is prepared. Family drifts in and out throughout the day. An elongated oval dining table follows the curve of the architecture, encouraging people to linger. Every decision has been made to support interaction.

“I’ve never believed that luxury is about filling a room,” Karl explains. “Sometimes the most valuable thing you can give a space is generosity. Space to move and breathe. Space for conversation.”

That same philosophy continues beyond the entertaining spaces. Quiet reading corners offer moments of reflection without disconnecting from the wider home, while a dedicated workspace provides focus without feeling isolated. In the bedrooms, BAYA’s signature

STYLING AN ICON: 5 WAYS TO STYLE THE CH24 WISHBONE CHAIR

Ah, Scandinavia, the mere mention of the word conjures imagery of Mads Mikkelsen pedalling down a Copenhagen cycle path on his way to acquire Kardemummabullar at some local bakery. But when we’re not thinking of the pastries or the pastel coloured buildings, we’re thinking, of course, about the furniture. None can claim to be a Scandi design symbol more than the perfection in paper cord that is Hans Wegner’s CH24 Wishbone chair.

While it is an icon of Northern Europe by one of the old masters of chair making, times and trends change, so how can you adapt one of Denmark’s finest to your own tastes?

Time to find out in our style guide below.

“Scandinavian design’s golden age truly took flight around the time of the post-war furniture boom, meaning the two styles borrowed characteristics from each other relentlessly”

Mid century masterpiece: To call the CH24 a Mid Century chair would be about as accurate as you can get. Released at the very midpoint of the 20th century in 1950, its symbiosis with this era of furniture is almost guaranteed. Scandinavian design’s golden age truly took flight around the time of the post war furniture boom, meaning the two styles borrowed characteristics from each other relentlessly. Hence why both often deploy copious amounts of wood, clean lines and versatility, all qualities that define the star of this article.

To make them both work in your home is to harmonise their defining qualities. Take a hero piece like a large oval dining table and balance its understated splendour with Oak Oiled CH24s, add that signature 1950s flash

of brilliance with a statement primary coloured rug, then add in something with a paper shade for the pendant light.

Icons of industry: From a match made in 1950s heaven to perhaps the most unlikely couple in design they do say opposites attract. In this case, that is incredibly fortunate, because the contrast between the dulcet tones of the industrial world and the soft shades of the Scandi one is so stark that they actually work together rather beautifully. Albeit with a very specific edition of the CH24. We are, of course, talking about the sultry, obsidian hues of the all black version.

“Make hygge (Google is your friend for the uninitiated) your priority and set yourself up for a serene Scandi dining experience like no other”

The recipe for this stylistic choice is simple: muted tones, rich textures and bold, straight edged shapes. Take a dark obsidian dining table to match the accompanying chairs, brighten the space both above and below, firstly with a silvery but sleek rug and then with a moody, maximalist spotlight.

Supplemented Scandi: We’ve arrived; it had to happen eventually. The obvious choice for one of the most recognisable symbols of Danish design, surrounded by other icons from its homeland. Make hygge (Google is your friend for the uninitiated) your priority and set yourself up for a serene Scandi dining experience like no other. Bright wood, and lots of it, should take centre stage. In fact, every surface that is not part of the floor or attached to the ceiling should embrace it. Save warm yet simplistic hues and soft textures for those remaining elements.

Place Oak Soaped CH24s around an equally tranquil table in a similar finish, add an earth toned rug, and complete the setting with a pastel pendant, perhaps from Louis Pouslen, a true lesson in Scandinavian illumination.

Abstract and Artful: One style that Danish design is rarely associated with is abstract furniture. Peaceful and serene, yes, but typically uniform. Make no mistake, this works massively in its favour within its natural habitat; you can mix and match multiple brands to your heart’s content with little concern for clashes. But what about the overtly vibrant among us? Those creating spaces that blur the lines between home and art gallery?

Would I be talking about it if there wasn’t an option?

Put on your rainbow tinted glasses and feast your eyes on Carl Hansen’s collection of colourful classics: from Orange to Olive, Hans Wegner’s masterpiece is perfectly placed to go hue to hue with your boldest statement pieces. Roll out the leopard print carpet, place your colourful chairs around a multi hued table base, and complete the scene with the exuberant glow of a statement pendant that conveys your own unique style.

Cosy Club: Let’s wrap up this list with the perfect setting for those of us who need a cosy place to close out the day. When it comes to the CH24, it is not just the materials that create a comforting atmosphere, but the shapes and colours too. Rounded curves, smooth, supple lines, all carefully carved in this case from that great conveyor of calm: walnut. A timber that naturally exudes warmth and welcome, while offering an effortlessly easy on the eye aesthetic. So, we know walnut is the way forward, but we are aiming for the pinnacle of home comfort.

Start your setting with the softness of a thick, fluffy rug, then lean into the craftsmanship of wood specialists, use a dark timber like Walnut to consolidate the cosiness. Finally, complete the atmosphere with a soft, glowing set of lamps surrounding the area. chaplins.co.uk

FROM COAST TO CAPITAL: DESIGNING HOMES THAT REFLECT MODERN LIVING

The best homes are never simply about beautiful architecture or carefully curated interiors. They are about creating spaces that reflect the people who live in them, enhancing the way they experience everyday life while adding lasting value for years to come.

At Watershedd, we believe exceptional design begins with understanding. As architects and interior designers, our work combines creative vision with technical expertise to deliver homes that feel both effortless and deeply personal. While our portfolio includes award worthy coastal residences and countryside retreats, our West London studio has become the hub for an increasing number of projects across the capital and the South East, bringing a contemporary approach to architecture and interior design for discerning homeowners.

London presents a unique design challenge. Every property has its own character, planning constraints and opportunities. Whether reimagining a Victorian townhouse in Chelsea, transforming a family home in Chiswick or creating sophisticated interiors for a riverside apartment, our focus remains the same: designing spaces that are timeless, functional and tailored to modern living.

What makes the most successful projects is the seamless relationship between architecture and interiors. Rather than treating them as separate disciplines, our team develops both in parallel, ensuring every detail, from spatial planning and natural light to bespoke joinery, materials and furnishings, works together as a cohesive whole. The result is a home that feels considered from the very first sketch through to the final finishing touches.

Although our roots are on the Cornish coast, our experience across diverse landscapes has shaped a design philosophy that translates effortlessly to urban living. Every project benefits from the same attention to detail, craftsmanship and commitment to creating homes that feel calm, elegant and uniquely individual.

From coast to capital, Watershedd provides architecture and interior design services across the UK from our West London studio. Whether transforming an existing property or designing a new home from the ground up, we help clients create spaces that are not only beautifully designed but thoughtfully crafted around the way they live.

DESIGNING AT DIFFERENT SCALES

London’s homes are as diverse as the people who live in them. From elegant Georgian townhouses, Victorian villas and Edwardian terraces to suburban family homes and contemporary infill plots, every property presents an opportunity to create spaces that are equally beautiful, practical and of their own time.

At pb_arc, our work spans the breadth of residential architecture throughout central London and the surrounding suburbs, creating bespoke environments that respond to the individuality of both the client and the property. From carefully crafted extensions to complex heritage projects and contemporary new build homes, every commission begins with the same principle: understanding place, context and the people who will call it home. Because at every scale, thoughtful architecture has the power to enrich daily life while creating lasting value.

The Power of Small Interventions

Some of the most transformative projects are also

the most modest. A single storey extension can redefine how a family lives, opening the inside to out, introducing natural light and creating spaces that feel generous, connected and adaptable. Thoughtful alterations can unlock the potential of an existing home without compromising the qualities that made it special in the first place. These interventions demand restraint as much as creativity and often we must convince the client that bigger is not always better! Instead, the success of an extension lies in its proportion, craftsmanship and the seamless relationship between old and new, where every detail contributes to a home that feels both effortless and enduring.

Reimagining Existing Homes

Many of London’s houses have evolved through generations of piecemeal alterations, leaving layouts that no longer reflect practical modern living. Comprehensive refurbishments provide an opportunity to rethink the entire home, improving flow, maximising natural light and creating

spaces designed around modern family life.

Rather than imposing a new identity, successful architecture reveals the potential already present within a building. Original features are celebrated while carefully considered interventions introduce comfort, sustainability and flexibility, allowing period homes to evolve with sensitivity and purpose.

Building Within London’s Heritage

Much of central London sits within Conservation Areas or comprises listed buildings, where architectural change requires careful consideration. These projects demand more than technical expertise; they require a nuanced understanding of how contemporary architecture can respectfully engage with historic fabric.

Working within these settings is about finding opportunity within constraint. Sensitive additions, carefully selected materials and refined detailing preserve the qualities that define a building while introducing spaces that meet the expectations of modern living. It is an approach that values longevity over fashion, quality over excess and enhancement over imitation.

Creating Bespoke New Homes

At the other end of the spectrum are bespoke new build homes, where every aspect of the design can be tailored to both site and client. Whether occupying an urban infill plot or a generous suburban setting, successful new homes respond to their surroundings while embracing contemporary architecture, sustainable design principles and enduring materials.

For pb_arc, these projects offer the opportunity to create homes that are entirely individually designed around the way each client lives today while remaining adaptable for generations to come.

A Considered Approach

Designing at different scales requires the same

essential qualities: careful listening, creative thinking and an appreciation of context. A modest extension deserves the same level of design consideration as a substantial refurbishment or a bespoke new build home, because each contributes to the evolving character of London’s neighbourhoods.

This philosophy underpins every project undertaken by pb_arc. Working across central London and the outer suburbs, the practice specialises in bespoke residential architecture, including homes within Conservation Areas and listed buildings, guiding clients from initial concept through planning and construction with a collaborative and design led approach.

Ultimately, good urban architecture is not measured by size or budget. It is measured by how thoughtfully it responds to its setting, its history and, above all, the people who live within it. At pb_arc, we believe every project should extend the story of a place; respecting its past while creating architecture with the quality, character and longevity to shape its future.

A MODERN HEIRLOOM FOR OUTDOOR MOMENTS:

The Ocellus Leather Mini Bar

“Crafted from rich, soft blue leather and lined in OKA’s iconic Ocellus print, it opens to reveal a beautifully arranged interior that is as practical as it is aesthetic”

OKA introduces the Ocellus Leather Mini Bar, a thoughtfully designed, portable drinks cabinet that brings elegance and practicality to every outdoor (or indoor) gathering.

Drawing inspiration from an original OKA archive design and rooted in our philosophy of designing to live well, we felt it was time to refresh and reintroduce this much loved piece.

Created with longevity in mind, this is a piece designed to become a modern heirloom, bringing a sense of occasion to outdoor entertaining year after year. Compact and portable, it allows hosts to take elegance wherever they go, from the garden to the countryside.

Crafted from rich, soft blue leather and lined in OKA’s iconic Ocellus print, it opens to reveal a beautifully arranged interior that is as practical as it is aesthetic.

Inside, you’ll find everything needed to serve drinks with ease: a flask, hip flask and shot cups, alongside tumblers, wine coolers, ice tongs, a corkscrew and bottle opener. A dedicated section safely houses champagne flutes in transit, and we’ve even thought about a discreet pull out tray that allows the fold down front to sit level, creating a practical mini tabletop, ensuring that wherever it’s placed, whether in the boot of a

car or nestled into the grass, your Bloody Mary or glass of champagne stays perfectly upright.

“Entertaining has always been at the heart of OKA, and we wanted to create something that captures that essence beyond the home. Our Ocellus print has truly proved itself as a pattern, and it’s so exciting to see it make its debut in our outdoor entertaining collection, not to mention the adventures it might have, travelling from picnic to picnic in the back of car boots. It’s a perfect combination of design, craftsmanship and practicality.” – Sue Jones, Co-Founder and Creative Director oka.com

RICHMOND OAK GLAZED EXTENSIONS

Richmond Oak Glazed Extensions creates bespoke oak framed and painted Hardwood living spaces for homeowners who want to add character, light and practical space to their properties. Specialising in oak conservatories, orangeries and garden rooms, the company focuses on designing extensions that feel individual rather than standardised. A Richmond Oak glazed extension is designed to bring the outdoors closer while improving the way a home can be enjoyed throughout the year. The combination of glass and seasoned oak allows natural light to flow through the room, while the warmth and texture of the oak frame helps the extension blend beautifully with its garden setting. Whether the aim is a larger kitchen, a tranquil garden retreat or a stylish entertaining area, the company’s approach is centred on creating a room that feels both elegant and functional. By using fully seasoned oak a unique dual colour option is possible where the outside can be painted to match the house and still have a natural oak interior.

“Craftsmanship and durability. Its extensions are built using fully seasoned oak, chosen for its strength, stability and long-lasting appeal”

The business places strong emphasis on craftsmanship and durability. Its extensions are built using fully seasoned oak, chosen for its strength, stability and long lasting appeal. Richmond Oak also highlights the importance of comfort, using features such as solar control glass, ventilation and heating solutions to help make its glazed spaces usable in every season. Using their unique solar control glass glazing to roof and frames you will not find it too hot in Summer or too cold in Winter.

Another key part of the Richmond Oak service is its support through the full design and build journey. The process begins with a consultation, followed by a bespoke design stage that can include 3D illustrations. Once

the design is approved, the company can deal with planning permission and building regulations before moving on to construction. As nearly half the Company’s work has been providing solutions for Listed Properties, this is particularly valuable for owners of listed buildings, conservation area properties and homes in sensitive locations, where specialist knowledge is often required.

With a focus on bespoke design, natural materials and a guided customer experience, Richmond Oak Glazed Extensions offers homeowners a way to transform ordinary areas into distinctive, light filled living spaces that enhance both the property and everyday life. For more contemporary requirements the Company has it’s Hallmark Living Spaces range of timber alternative materials.

A GRAVEL SURFACE FIT FOR A KING:

Designing Stability at the Royal Windsor Flower Show

“We need your Gravelrings as his Highness is coming, and the garden will see all kinds of traffic. It has to stay firm and still look beautiful,”

Ahead of the Royal Windsor Flower Show, the lead Garden Designer for the project at Landform contacted Beauxfort with a clear brief: create a flawless, stable gravel surface worthy of royal approval.

With His Majesty in attendance and the garden’s reputation on the line, the installation had to be both strong and stunning. The designer envisioned a natural, self binding gravel surface that looked seamless while standing up to the demands of the event.

The solution? Gravelrings, a high performance gravel stabilisation system that effortlessly delivered elegance and durability across the 110sqm garden pathway.

When designing a garden for a royal audience, every element had to look and perform flawlessly, including the surface underfoot. The gravel surface needed to complement the garden’s ‘Patterns in Nature’ theme, balancing natural beauty with lasting strength.

The Gravelrings’ mesh base design made that possible, keeping the gravel perfectly in place even under continuous foot traffic. Once filled, the grid vanished completely, allowing Allgreen’s Harleyford Blend to take centre stage; a light, natural looking finish that blended seamlessly with the surrounding planting. The result was a self binding gravel surface that looked beautiful, stayed firm, and enhanced the elegance of the entire garden.

The garden not only had to look perfect, but it also had to perform. The pathways would face continuous foot traffic, wheelchairs, pushchairs, trolleys and more, all while contending with the

unpredictability of British weather.

Gravelrings’ low profile design provided the strength needed beneath the surface while remaining completely invisible, preserving the garden’s natural aesthetic and the intricate Fibonacci inspired layout. Beyond its appearance, the system gave the Landform team complete confidence that the pathways would stay stable, smooth, and flawless from start to finish.’

Described by the installation team as ‘easy to work with,’ Gravelrings helped them create a surface that looked immaculate and felt completely stable underfoot. Designer Alan Williams shared that he was ‘very happy with the garden,’ and Landform later requested to use the same system at their Glasshouse Collective show space, a testament to its performance and lasting value.

This project perfectly demonstrates what Gravelrings was designed for: a stable, sustainable, and stylish gravel surface that performs as beautifully as it looks.
