London Fashion Week is always exciting and inspirational and this year saw the event's 61st year, during which more than 250 designers showcased their collections for autumn and winter to a global audience. î “e magic of London Fashion Week is not merely thanks to the fashion designers’ and fashion stylists ’cutting-edge collections but the media excitement that accompanies them. î “e allure of the show is exceptional and continues to be the top fashion event pulling visitors from every corner of the globe. All around there are signs of new life once more. Soon after the first flowers of the year arrive, the bluebells make their annual appearance. î “ere’s nothing quite like wandering into a woodland glade to be met by a breathtaking carpet of blue and to breathe in the heady scent of the English bluebell. Nestled in the heart of rural Essex with a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the rolling countryside, RHS Garden Hyde boasts an eclectic range of inspirational horticultural styles. A far cry from its humble beginnings as farm. Helen and Dick Robinson moved to Hyde Hall in 1955 and found six trees on the top of a windswept hill. î “ey were large scale farmers, but Helen also had an interest in gardening and slowly but surely a garden started to emerge. î “irty-eight years later in 1993 the garden was bequeathed to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to ensure its future survival. Under ownership of the RHS a number of modifications have been made to enhance the visitor experience and accommodate growing visitor numbers. During his long career, Dave played with American jazz legends such as Teddy Wilson, Bud Freeman, Yank Lawson, Ruby Bra, Wild Bill Davison and Barney Kessel. He led his own groups, including the Freddy Randall/Dave Shepherd Jazz All Stars, and the Pizza Express All-Stars for more than 20 years. s Epping Forest’s Oak-Tree Group of Schools prepare to open their doors to local families, what will new parents experience? is year the Spring Open Mornings will run from Tuesday 10 March until Friday 13 March and at each school visitors will see lessons in progress, with tours conducted by some of the older pupils who act as guides. Kaye Lovejoy, Headmistress of Epping’s Coopersale Hall, observes, “e flexibility of our Kindergarten sessions is incredibly popular and we’ve been taking many enquiries from families hoping for their children to join our Early Years. Parents welcome our before and after school care, and children enjoy the extensive range of clubs and activities on offer. Our intensive preparation for senior school entry is very strong and our Year 6 pupils are normally in the enviable position of having offers from several independent senior schools to choose from”. LocaL LIfe ‘Game Theory’ Greek PoLITIcs, BaTman and essex
I
n the last few weeks, most of us have been fascinated by Greece’s attempts to renegotiate their debts, bailouts and payment commitments. But what does this have to do with Essex? e Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varoufakis received his PhD in economics in 1987 at the University of Essex. So although he has dual citizenship (Greek and Australian) his knowledge and intellectual abilities were nurtured and developed on our own terra firma; he’s an academic Essex Boy! Furthermore it is widely published that he is an internationally respected game theory specialist. Game theory is a fascinating subject which is essentially (and very basically) conceptual and strategic, decision making. In short, by asking yourself what will the other person choose to do when presented with a few choices, helps you to then base your own decision from a developed premeditated process. Interestingly, we are all players of game theory, whether we realise it or not. My game theory highlight (infinitely less complicated than Greek economic policies) was a strategic decision regarding the latest Batman film: Dark Knight Rises. I love films however do not enjoy going to the cinema. It’s a sad aspect to my character that I do not have much patience for the popcorn-box-rustlers, the back-of-the-seat kickers and those who use their mobile phones to talk or text despite the polite requests. So how could I see this film in

my preferred environment within a week of release? I applied game theory and by analysing behavioural patterns, broke down the necessary aspects: • A cinema that was not easily accessible via public transport, near to restaurants or any other recreational venue • Not part of any shopping centre in order to avoid footfall viewers • Week day rather than weekend or evening • To select a time when most people would be either having lunch or dinner. By answering all the questions, I decided upon Vue Cinema Dagenham at 11 a.m. on a Tuesday morning. OUTCOME: Only six other people in the cinema who clearly had applied the same strategy. As Mr. Varoufakis is the international, academic expert of cinema-seat-finding, I am intrigued to see how he will be applying a rather more sophisticated and complex mathematical analysis of game theory to address the Greek debt crisis. ■

Audley End House & Gardens Is Taking The Lead In Dog Walks
E
nglish Heritage offers the opportunity for visitors to enjoy a great day out with their dog at many historic properties across the country, but now Audley End House and Gardens is em’bark’ing on even more with a new tasty treats package. Dog walkers can enjoy a takeaway slice of cake or scone, plus any hot drink for £3.50 and their pooch can munch on a free doggie doughnut or bone biscuit! All served from garden kiosk by the cloud hedge. e organic tasty treats for both dogs and their owners have been made fresh by the catering team at the Essex stately home and was officially launched by Search Dogs Essex at the end of February. Perfect for dog walkers, the Audley End estate was originally adapted from a medieval Benedictine monastery, and counted amongst the largest and most opulent houses and gardens in Jacobean England. Today Audley End is set in a tranquil landscape with stunning views across the unspoilt Essex countryside allowing walkers the chance to paws for thought. Visitors can enjoy the painstakingly restored parterre with its eye-catching bedding scheme and a walled kitchen garden run entirely on organic principles. It's possible to see elements of English gardening on a grand scale at Audley End carried out by the most influential designers of the day such as Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Audley End House, along with the stables and service wing, will be re-opening for the start of the visitor season on March 28, with an exciting line-up of events for the year.

Highlights include the return of ‘Life Above and Below Stairs’ when weekends throughout May to the end of September, visitors can see the service wing and stables brought to life and an ‘Easter Adventure Quest’ running from Friday 3 to Monday 6 April, where families can meet a range of characters from the past to help them crack the clues to win the chocolate. For the May bank holidays there will be a ‘Grand Victorian Travelling Show’ (Sunday 3 to Monday 4 May) that will transport people back to Audley End’s heyday with a range of Victorian stalls, travelling sideshows and larger than life personalities. ere will also be a Wild West horse show. ‘Entertaining Elizabeth: Jousts, Jesters and Music’ runs on Sunday 24 to Monday 25 May, complete with the infamous Queen, her loyal followers, minstrels, musicians and for the first time – Tudor jousters on horseback as her father would have enjoyed! A whole host of weekly historically themed family events will run throughout the summer, ‘Classic Cars’ will return for Father’s Day and the popular ‘WWII: Soldiers and Spies’ and ‘Apple Festival’ are also set to draw the crowds once again. ■ Please be aware that dogs must be kept on a lead and please always clean up after your dog.

MUlberrY Mulberry presented its Autumn Winter 2015 Catwalk Collection from its Kensington showroom on Sunday 22 & Monday 23 February. e collection was inspired by “the enticing world of Georgian interiors, known for their elegance, lightness and stylised flair epitomised in the Rococo and neo-classical design elements of architects such as Robert Adam and John Soames.” To showcase the collection, Mulberry commissioned British artist Tom Price to create an ethereal installation based on the theme and inspiration. e resulting five large scale arches with their over spilling ‘blossom’ formed a dramatic backdrop to the showroom. Tom has a background in sculpture and design and much of the work he produces seeks to explore the untapped potential of familiar, everyday materials and their ability to turn

issA london Issa presented their Autumn/Winter at One Great George Street, London. e brand’s first Collection under the Creative Direction of Jamie O’Hare explores the confidence and sensuality of the Issa woman. Animal prints and fringing allude to her wild side, but the fluid fabrics, slivers of exposed skin, and attitude with which she stalks the runway, make this a polished rather than bohemian interpretation of the sauvage. Print inspiration came from aerial views of the graphic patterns in the desert made by the Bahrain race track; interpretations of these patterns weave through the collection in diverse fabrications and techniques; prints in black, white and red are patch-worked against animal print on an embroidered shift dress, woven and knitted on jacquard coats and separates, and embroidered on hemlines and stone encrusted dresses. Subtle black, white, navy and blue base colours are enlivened with bright red, topaz and chartreuse. e mixing of contrasting prints and patterns is prevalent throughout; a crocodile effect jacquard coat is worn with abstract leopard print trousers, whilst a race track inspired knitted blanket coat is belted over a leopard print top. Patterns are also juxtaposed on the brand’s signature pieces; a knitted dress features contrasting print panels in leopard and paisley, and a roll neck jersey wrap dress features varying floral prints pieced together to create stepped hems. Differing jersey fabrications are combined to progress the brand’s signature draping; sheer, opaque and shine jersey panels combine in wrap dresses and tops constructed from asymmetric panels that lend a modern fluidity to the silhouette.

Stunning images capturing the raw nature of the isle of skye , the work produced by Albert Watson are references using colour and organic textures throughout the collection. Nicosia integrally knits beads that would traditionally have been embroidered to mirror the landscape, particularly the mineral grain and rock. Elements of flora and fauna are reflected throughout using a fil coupe with thistle motif, while a raised wavy jacquard is used to give multiple layers creating a leaf stitch. Prestonfield House Flemish tapestry fades into a floral motif inspired by Gibbons’ woodcarving; this translates through raised macramé and embossed leather. Textured fur almost resembles a silk moiré bark while other pieces are ordained with carved mink argyle, once again giving a nod to tradition. ‘is collection happens at a time not many brands have the privilege of celebrating. Challenging the boundaries of what can be created with knitwear and truly showcasing Pringle of Scotland as an innovative luxury brand’ Technical boundaries are being pushed with 3d printing on complete garments, reinventing traditional techniques by cutting a skirt on the bias and embroidering 3d chain mail with cashmere yarn. Heat formed knitwear is moulded to achieve memory formed shape and rounded silhouettes. e colour palette consists of liquorice, nightshade, regal purple with blasts of ruby red that are calmed by moments of ebony. Blush camel, slates and whites neutralise the collection bringing it back to elements of nature. I had fixed braces to straighten my teeth in 2013 and recently did my own teeth whitening. Over the last sixteen years I have worked in aesthetic medicine treatments have advanced, products have become more high-tech and the public and media still demand more and exciting treatment program's which are both effective and have little down time. It has become far more acceptable to want to look your best and the majority of people seeking out these treatments still want to look natural, but less tired looking. e three most common reasons for people considering treatments are frown lines or 'looking angry', weak thin lips or 'sad mouth syndrome' and finally under eye circles or ' tired eyes'. Here are some options on the right way to treat these conditions.
anGry Frown lineS Charles Darwin described the primary act of frowning as the furrowing of the brow which leads to a rise in the upper lip and a down-turning of the corners of the mouth. While the appearance of a frown varies culturally, there appears to be some degree of universality to the recognition of the frown as a negative facial expression. A frown (also known as a scowl) is a facial expression in which the eyebrows are brought together, and the forehead is wrinkled, usually indicating displeasure, sadness or worry, or less often confusion or concentration. e mouth expression is also commonly referred to in the colloquial English phrase "turn that frown upside down" which indicates changing from sad to happy.
SolUtion e easiest way to lessen these lines is by using a muscle relaxing injection which will stop your muscles contracting so strongly which in turn stops you creating lines and wrinkles. Some individuals can have a sugar molecule dermal filler to help soften this expression and in some cases a combination of the two depending on the severity. Hereditary problems like fat pads collecting under the eye resulting in eye bags. For some it can be a sign of deficiency of vitamin K which is essential for your blood to clot. It also strengthens the walls of your capillaries, which prevents them from leaking blood. A vitamin K deficiency not only impairs the formation of blood clots but also causes you to become more susceptible to bruising when capillaries break. e blood the broken capillaries release is no longer oxygenated, causing it to form a discolouration under your eyes. Allergies, lack of sleep or fatigue can also be causes as well as vitamins, iron deficiency and dehydration!

artin of Chingford, London, first met Ash whilst attending Epping Forest Business Group, a local networking group dedicated to inter-referring new clientele (www.efbg.co.uk). During their weekly meeting each member would give a ten minute presentation on their business. After a year of listening to Ash, and getting to know him, Martin finally plucked up the courage to speak to Ash about the ongoing problems he faced with his mouth. “After ticking Ash’s boxes as it were, of being a “nervous patient”, the point had come where I had to speak to him about my dental problems. I had now reached a stage where I could no longer face my own clients as I was embarrassed to smile as my front teeth had become loose”. As is common with 4 out of 5 people, Martin had some form of anxiety when it came to visiting the Dentist. “I had bad experiences when I was younger; during treatment I would experience pain as the anaesthetic hadn’t worked and the Dentist would just carry on. I was petrified. When I was a child I had teeth extracted under gas, and that in itself was scary. During my teen years, I moved to London from the family home in 1978. is is where my dental problems stem from as I was given the freedom to not have to visit the dentist as I did when I was a child. So I didn’t go. I was dedicated to brushing my teeth twice a day and thought
this would be enough”. After visiting Smile Design by Ash for a thorough examination it was clear that Martin would require an extensive amount of treatment due to not attending the dentist regularly. Martin was suffering with moderate gum problems which had led to the loosening of his teeth. After a detailed consultation, and advice from Ash, it was decided the best plan of action would involve the extraction of 16 teeth. After the removal of the teeth, Ash replaced the missing teeth with cosmetic dentures. Martin then saw Jessica the hygienist for thorough gum cleaning and advice on how to maintain the remaining teeth. “Considering my treatment plan was radical, with the help of Ash’s expertise as a dentist and the environment of the practice, I am extremely happy with the end result. I feel much more comfortable visiting the dentist now. I see Ash once a year for a routine examination and Jessica twice a year to keep my gums in good health”. “Ash has never pulled the wool over my eyes. Whatever we have discussed Ash has always followed through. I’m very happy with my teeth. Kitchen dreams W hen Mrs. W. from Woodford first came into our Schmidt showroom, she knew what she wanted. She looked around the showroom with its’ six fully laid out kitchens on display and then she spotted the one. It was all there on our Bolero display kitchen, the palest Kashmir Grey painted wood grain finish, with a contemporary brushed steel handle and a complimentary pale stone oak wood laminate interior, durable with a hint of pale grey. William the Designer, who worked with Mr. and Mrs. W. throughout the planning stage will tell a little more of the story of their kitchen; “Of course we kicked around some different ideas on finish, but no matter what options I discussed with them, both Mr and Mrs W. always came back to their original starting point, this to me just shows the value of having such beautiful displays in the showroom.” As well as the kitchen displays, our Schmidt showroom has a large work surface collection on show and an area to show our bedroom collection, not a lot of customers realise we also design and fit bedrooms . Back to Mrs and Mrs W, William sat with them and set to designing their ideal space, the great thing William said is that; “We tailor make kitchens to work around the client, we design their ideal space working out the best place for appliances and explaining all the labour saving devices that are now available through Schmidt, such as boiling water taps and waste disposal units, as well as the not quite so essential but useful things like wine coolers (which we have from 6 to 96 bottles)|!”

MAKE AN ENTRANCE! How to create a welcoming hallway

ntrance ways tend to be dark and narrow but painting them white isn’t necessarily the best option. “Hallways, especially busy family ones, can take a lot of wear of tear and white be very unforgiving, as well as cold, so a better option, is to choose a light, bright colour in a warm tone. Choose a colour that is a shade or two lighter than the main room the hallway leads to, and it will help create continuity between the two spaces. As this room is primarily a walk-through, you can afford to make a strong design statement and be bold with colour and pattern. Patterned wallpaper with a slight shine will help reflect the light, while vertical stripes can create the illusion of height. If you’re concerned about knocks and scratches, a practical option is to have painted wood panelling on the bottom of

If you have a particularly long and narrow hallway, a chequerboard effect on the floor will create the impression of width - the wider the tiles, the wider it will look. If you have bare wooden stairs, consider painting each step a different shade of the same colour or have fun with stencils to create patterns or words. MAKE A FEATURE OF IT A feature wall is a great way to experiment with colour and bold pattern and is a simple way to make a room look sophisticated, stylish and chic. A feature wall can add interest, style and energy to your room. As a basic rule, choose a wall that’s as plain as possible, without doors or windows. Interior designer Joanna Wood says it’s important you don’t just think of walls, either. “A chimney breast or alcove both make great features,� she says. And, says Joanna, as you’re going to be drawing attention to your chosen wall, think hard about whether it’s worth showing off. “Does it have beautiful architectural elements or will you be highlighting a piece of furniture that you really love,� she says. Placing your bed against a feature wall makes for an unusual and striking bed head, for example. Paint the wall in a bold colour (strong and sexy shades such as plum and sapphire can work well) or for a more sophisticated and glam touch, cover you wall in a material like velvet or silk. For a subtle effect, choose a complementary shade to
that of the rest of the room; a darker or lighter intensity of the same colour as the other three walls can really work well. If you’re into a bit more drama then pick contrasting colours - those that sit opposite each other on the colour wheel (a warm brown with duck egg blue for example). Don’t just think of paint and wallpaper when creating a feature wall. “You can use a huge variety of materials,� says Joanna. “Materials like suede, silk or wood add texture and interest. And if you have a dark room or corridor, mirrors or metallic reflective wallpapers, which are very on trend right now, are a great choice. They feel opulent and also bounce and reflect light around the space.� Advances in digital printing mean you can now have a huge variety of photographic images blown up to wall size, if you are looking for something different. Or go 3D: a collection of objects can make a striking wall feature. Hang framed photos across an entire wall or make a feature of your album collection. Feature walls are a simple but striking way to update your room. Choose the right wall and be bold with colour and you’ll soon have a room that hits all the right notes.
