he sight of the Coca-Cola Truck is often said to mark the official start of Christmas and has done so ever since it first appeared in Coca-Cola’s famous ‘Holidays Are Coming’ advert. Over the last nine years, the iconic truck tour has brought festive joy to people across the UK. It has travelled over 800,000 miles – the equivalent of 29 times around the world . Thousands of Christmas fans have basked in its 8,772 twinkling fairy lights and enjoyed the magical ‘Holidays are Coming’ jingle,
‘Tis the season to be jolly! In a snowy winter wonderland setting, visitors will be able to enjoy festive photo moments and enjoy a small can of Coca-Cola zero sugar* to get them in the Christmas spirit. In addition, when the Christmas Truck stops at Asda and Sainsbury’s stores, shoppers will be able to purchase a pack of 250ml glass bottles of Coca-Cola zero sugar, Coca-Cola original taste and Diet Coke and have the labels personalised with their name at the truck for a special festive treat. This year, Coca-Cola has partnered with Crisis -
the national homelessness charity, which is now in its 52nd year. Coca-Cola will donate 10p for each can recycled by visitors at the truck tour, with funds going to Crisis to help people out of homelessness. The initiative not only aims to help the charity, but also encourage recycling as part of Coca-Cola’s World Without Waste goal to help collect and recycle a bottle or can for each one sold by 2025 in Western Europe.

DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL’S BEST FRIEND Natasha Root, Private Client Executive at Scrutton Bland explains the importance of keeping up with your jewellery valuations and insurance.
T
his is the time of year when glossy magazines and television adverts are full of advertisements for stunning jewellery. If you are lucky enough to receive a beautiful diamond necklace or earrings for Christmas, or perhaps you have inherited some antique heirloom pieces from a relative, then you should think carefully about the insurance implications for your jewellery collection. While most of your possessions will be covered by your home contents insurance, many insurers impose a single item limit, meaning that you if you own an individual item worth more than the ‘single item sum’ specified in the policy, you may not be able to claim for the full value of that item. So, for example, if your policy has a ‘single item sum’ limit of £5000 and you need to make a claim for a stolen Rolex watch worth £8000, the policy will only repay £5000, leaving you out of pocket by £3000. For this reason, it is imperative that you obtain up to date comprehensive valuations to make sure your jewellery is fully protected in the event of a claim. Most standard policies have low single article limits so it’s important that you have an insurance policy that suits your needs. At Scrutton Bland we pride ourselves in working with high value insurers who offer bespoke cover for jewellery insurance. In order to make sure a claim is dealt and settled in a way that suits you best it is important to consider the following. • Proof of ownership. Keep all receipts and evidence which
12 DECEMBER 2019
show that you are the legal owner, and take photographs showing the condition of the jewellery when it was new, or when you inherited it; • Evidence of the item’s current value for each item. This should be done by a UK jeweller or independent valuer with a full description of the item(s), signed and dated by them and needs to be less than 3 years old. The valuation should show the replacement value of the item at the time of the valuation. • How the jewellery is stored. Is it in a safe or strong box, or in a bank vault? Safe manufacturers should be AIS (Association of Insurance Surveyors) approved and be rated according to European Norm (EN) rating, and the safe should be installed correctly according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you are considering specialist insurance, whether it is for jewellery, watches, fine art, antiques or items such designer handbags, it is worth talking to a broker that specialises in covering such items as they will have experience in the high net worth market and in the event of a claim you have the peace of mind knowing that the claim will be settled satisfactorily. At Scrutton Bland our Private Client Insurance department offers a bespoke service to cover your insurance needs. Furthermore we can work with our tax advisers and independent financial experts to help manage and protect your wealth, assets and investment portfolio.
If you are lucky enough to receive a beautiful diamond necklace or earrings for Christmas, then you should think carefully about the insurance implications for your jewellery collection.

A PARENT’S GUIDE TO 11+ STRESS
P
arents of a child taking the 11+ exam into independent senior schools often find the process quite stressful. Here are some tips that can help you and your child conquer your 11+ journey with as little worry as possible. Seek Information It is critical that you know exactly how the admissions processes for your preferred schools work. Make sure you keep informed about your preferred schools by: • Finding out what the Admission Requirements are to check your chances of securing a place. Search the 11+ information sections of the schools’ websites to help you and check near the application date if there have been any updates or further information. • Reading the latest inspection reports, reviews or blogs and talk to your child’s school and local families in the community. • Finding out about the testing process so you know what the assessments consist of and when they take place. Look out for changes to the tests as the content varies considerably from year to year and school to school.
Manage Your Stress Due to the pressure on places and the need to prepare thoroughly, most children taking the 11+ will feel anxious or stressed at some point during the process. In addition, the car park chatter can impact adversely on children who overhear parental aspirations or expectations. • Reassure your child about their future and discuss a ‘Plan B’ that might take place regardless of the outcome of the 11+ exam. Your child needs to know that you are in control of the situation and that you have their future securely mapped out. • Reassure them you will be proud of them no matter 14 DECEMBER 2019
what happens, that you know how much hard work they have put into the preparation for their courage in taking it. A positive result, should they pass the entrance exam, is a bonus.
The Oak-Tree Group’s Senior Schools - Braeside And Normanhurst Braeside offers a small, personalised education for girls in Buckhurst Hill, and Normanhurst educates boys and girls in North Chingford. The two schools take children from 2½ to 16, and between them they make up half of the privately-owned Oak-Tree Group. Here are some key points about sitting the 11+ at these outstanding local schools: • Candidates should have reached the age of 11 before 1 September 2020. • Parents are required to complete a school registration form and an 11+ registration form, and submit them with a registration fee of £50. These forms are downloadable from the websites. • Selection procedures include a tour of the school for the family, interview for the parents with the Headmistress to explore the support available at home and any relevant connection with the School and an interview for the pupil to explore their interests, attitude to school, personal qualities and possible contribution to the school community. • 11+ examinations take place on Tuesday 21 January at 9.30am and include papers in Mathematics, English, Verbal and NonVerbal Reasoning. • Girls who sit the 11+ or 13+ examinations can be considered for a place at both Braeside and Normanhurst by indicating their preference when completing the 11+ or 13+ form. • Several part-scholarships are awarded annually at both schools as a result of the examination and interview process. These are awarded for Art, Drama, Music and Sport as well as for academic achievement. To register to sit the 11+ examination at either Braeside or Normanhurst School, please visit the school websites and contact the relevant Admissions Registrar.

The V&A holds the National Collection of the Art of Photography. The museum has collected photographs since its foundation in 1852 and continues to collect today. The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) collection was transferred to the V&A by the Science Museum Group in 2017 and was acquired with the generous assistance of the Heritage Lottery Fund and Art Fund. Cars: Accelerating the Modern World until 19 april 2020
T
he V&A has opened an exhibition looking at the car as the driving force that accelerated the pace of the 20th century. The exhibition brings together a wideranging selection of cars that have never been on display in the UK, each telling a specific story about their impact on the world. This includes the first production car in existence, an autonomous flying car, a converted low-rider, and a 1950s concept car. Showcasing 15 cars and 250 objects, the exhibition examines how the car changed our relationship to speed, how it changed the way we make and sell, and how it altered the landscape around us, from countryside to cityscape. ‘Going Fast’ opens the exhibition, exploring the role of the automobile in imagining a future world of liberated movement and technological progress. Bringing together a range of 20th century concept car designs, magazine illustrations, and film, the display references popular culture, science-fiction and novel technologies to show the central role of the automobile in imagining an accelerated future. The section continues with the first-ever production car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen 3, introduced to the public in 1888. Although it wasn’t fast at the time, technology developed rapidly, putting the thrill of speed at the hands of the driver and grabbing the fascination of the public.
24 december 2019
‘Making More’ explores the car as the archetype of modern manufacturing. On display, a Ford Model-T from 1925 traces the origins of the assembly line, its widespread impact on other areas of production and its evolution into the high-tech automated factories of today. The final section of the exhibition, ‘Shaping Space’, explores the vast impact of the car on the world’s landscape, nations, and cities. It looks at how the petrol engine beat early electric and steampowered competitors by promising the ability to travel the world, transforming drivers into individual explorers. Returning full circle to the fantasy images of a future world, the exhibition ends with the Pop. Up Next autonomous flying car co-designed by Italdesign, Airbus and Audi. On display for the first time in the UK, the car combines the four major innovations transforming the future of driving: electric power, autonomous driving, serviceoriented, and flying. As we approach another major turning point in automotive design, the exhibition examines how the car in a mere 130 years has shaped the world we know today. bertha benz embarking on the first motorised long-distance journey

Our trained and experienced maths instructors utilise our proprietary teaching materials, a variety of conceptual approaches, and the Mathnasium Method™ to deliver a customised learning plan designed to address each student’s individual needs. Our instructional approach goes beyond traditional maths tuition to develop understanding and build a love for maths. For students who already excel in the subject, the sky’s the limit. They work to expand their skills and, with learning made exciting, can see the countless doors which proficiency in mathematics can open. We also introduce them to material not typically 26 DECEMBER 2019

We meet them where they are and take them where they need to go. Mathnasium’s unique assessment process determines, with accuracy, exactly what your child knows and what they need to learn. Our assessment reveals each specific skill area that needs to be mastered so children aren’t wasting time reviewing concepts they already know. Assessments continue throughout a student’s Mathnasium instruction. These assessments are regularly given to ensure your child progresses and retains the skills they’ve learned. If maths is a problem, Mathnasium can solve it. Students will grow more excited and confident about maths—and their grades will reflect that. CHILDHOOD
SHOULD BE A JOY... but if illness strikes there are experts on hand to get your child back up and running
P
arents only ever want the best for their children and this is never more important than when they are ill. Ear, nose and throat conditions are common in childhood and treatment needs to be carefully tailored to each child’s individual and specific needs. Ear problems include perforated drums, glue ear, deafness, infections, tinnitus, foreign bodies and dizziness. Nose conditions range from blockages and foreign bodies to catarrh and sinusitis, while tonsillitis, drooling and breathing difficulties affect the throat. The good news is there have been many advances in the treatment of ear, nose and throat conditions in recent years and this is where consultant ENT surgeon Mr Gaurav Kumar and his expert multidisciplinary team can help. Five Common Conditions In Children 1. Tonsillitis is common in children and may have a negative impact on school attendance. If a child has frequent recurring bouts, he or she may benefit from a tonsillectomy. Tonsillitis can be successfully treated using the coblation technique,

which has faster recovery times than more traditional methods. Glue ear or fluid behind the eardrum affects children, particularly in the early years. Persistent glue ear can slow speech and hearing development, and therefore school performance. Large tonsils or a blockage in the nose can disrupt a child’s sleep and even cause choking at night. An ear, nose and throat specialist can make an accurate diagnosis and offer treatment. Frequent ear infections can affect hearing and school performance. This could be due to a hole in the ear drum or cholesteatoma (abnormal skin growth in the ear). An experienced ear surgeon can manage these conditions. Prominent ears is a physical problem caused by the cartilage inside the ear. Sometimes called ‘bat ears’, it can lead to teasing, reduced self-esteem and poor performance at school. Fortunately, it can be successfully treated.
Mr Kumar is an experienced ENT surgeon based in East London and Essex. He can examine your child and advice your best treatment options.

In the Bag after some winter arm candy? KatiE Wright reveals the best buys of the season.
Croc bags At Bottega Veneta, Chloe and Lanvin, luxe croc has taken over from boring old leather in the accessories department, with shiny bags in bright hues and interesting shapes. A mini croc bag is ideal for evening, while a mid-sized bucket bag is more practical for daytime.
Fuzzy bags While designer brands are lining up to declare they’ll no longer use real fur, the faux stuff is all over the catwalks, with fun fluffy bags in teddy bear textures. A furry bag elevates a cosy winter outfit, giving your usual jeans, jumper and wool coat combo a fashionforward edge.
Maxi bags
T
he finishing touch to any outfit, a handbag is a wardrobe must-have, whatever the season. And for this autumn/winter, you’re spoilt for choice, with everything from glitzy party clutches to furry shoulder bags for everyday wear. Inspired by the catwalks, here are the five bag trends you need to know about, and where to shop them on the high street right now...
Mini bags The biggest bag trend of AW19 is actually... the smallest. Just when you thought designer handbags couldn’t get any tinier, Jacquemus came out with a micro top handle bag so small that it fits in your palm. Practical? No, of course not, but that’s not the point. These darling little things are for those nights when all you need to carry with you is your phone, keys and lipstick.
Boxy bags As the sportswear trend has reached its peak, we’ve seen a reaction to all those casual clothes with the arrival of shiny, boxy bags on the catwalk - it’s a bit like carting around a vanity case or jewellery box. The antithesis of the slouchy hobo bag, these straight-edged beauties should always be teamed with your festive finery. 48 DECEMBER 2019
Does the absurdity of the micro bag trend make you want to roll your eyes and shake your head? Fear not, because at the other end of the accessories spectrum you’ve got the likes of Lanvin and Proenza Schouler making the case for extra-large bags, so you can tote around all your essential belongings (and probably some non-essentials too) and still be on-trend.

ip gloss is one of those items that can take you straight back to the Nineties - a time when all the make-up know-how you needed was the ability to apply a slick of sticky, glittery, berry-flavoured gloss to your mouth. And now it’s back - and luckily, it’s had an adult update. One of the best things about lip gloss is just how easy it is to use. Unlike some of the more complicated beauty trends of the moment - looking at you contouring - all you have to do is swish it on your lips in a vaguely neat way. So here are some of the lip gloss trends ruling the high street and the catwalks at the moment. And don’t worry, formulas have moved on since the 1990s you shouldn’t have your hair sticking to your lips quite so often...
pAlE AnD InTEREsTInG Two decades ago, the idea of lip gloss giving you a ‘no make-up make-up’ look would have been practically inconceivable. Now, it’s very much on trend. Instead of going for a crazy colour or sticky finish, opt for a shade that suits your lip colour and gives it a softer, natural look. Depending on your skintone, gentle rosy pinks and peach colours work well, making your lips look polished and dewy - like you’ve just rolled out of bed, in a good way. The key to this look - and when applying any lip gloss - is preparation. “Ensure your lips are well prepped by using an exfoliator first to get rid of any dryness,” explains Sascha Jackson, lead make-up artist at Stila
50 DECEMBER 2019
UK. “If you are using a nude or semi-transparent gloss, I recommend using a lip liner close to your natural lip colour just to create shape.”
GlAss lIps Once you’ve mastered paler shades, you’ll be ready to graduate to a glass finish; a lip gloss with an extra-shiny, almost mirror-like look to it. “This is a slightly wet look all over, which gives a healthy and youthful appearance,” explains make-up artist Stacey Whittaker. “This particular look is

popular on catwalks and creates an editorial feel. My top tip for applying gloss is that a little goes a long way,” she adds. “Apply a small amount to the centre of your lips and use your finger to carefully blend this towards the outer corners.” With an ultra-glossy lip, it can be hard to know what to do with the rest of your make-up. “I like to team this with a glossy or creamy finish on the cheeks, but then a matte or suede eye,” notes Jackson. “The difference in textures really complement each other.”

pluMp IT up If you’re not keen on injectables or other enhancements, there are plenty of products on the market that offer a non-surgical plump-up - all you have to do is swipe on some lippy. In fact, the phrase ‘plumping lip gloss’ has seen a 45% increase in searches on Pinterest from October 2018 to October 2019. These kinds of lip glosses tend to include tingle-inducing hyaluronic acid, a beloved skincare ingredient often used to help with hydration - and better hydrated lips can mean a bouncier, fuller pout. Jackson is a particular fan of Stila Beauty Boss Lip Gloss, saying: “It’s enriched with hyaluronic filling spheres which naturally smooth and give a more plump appearance. The pigments are incredible, which means you don’t have to layer lipstick underneath to get a good colour.”

lADY In RED A bold red lip is a classic look, and one most of us apply with lipstick. But what about trying that red lip with gloss? You might find it’s easier to apply and lasts longer. Either opt for an already shiny red lip gloss, or use any red you have and layer a clear product on top. “For the festive season, adding a soft sheen gloss over a pop of coloured lipstick is bang on trend for Christmas 2019,” says Whittaker. “Opting for a soft sheen will add dimension to your lips and create a plump and full effect.”

Yearning to turn your rooms into soothing havens? Gabrielle FaGan asks The White Company founder Chrissie rucker for her secrets. In it, Rucker reveals her own homes, shared with her husband and their four children, as well as a host of other beautiful examples, which she describes as “real homes that are not just wonderfully white and neutral but also full of character, personality and individuality”. The current stressful times we’re living in make creating calm, tranquil cossetting spaces even more vital. “I think that’s become more important now than ever, given the pace of life, work and all the pressures that we have to deal with,” says Rucker. “We all need an escape and a place to feel calm and relaxed. That’s why white works so well for me, and that was also how The White Company started - offering all the essentials for living with white.”
Here, Rucker tells us more about her love of white and how to make it work for you in your home... Why do you love living with white? “White is not one colour but a thousand different shades and tones. It’s this wonderful, soothing palette of naturals and neutrals that are all
“T
here’s a magical, calming quality to white and neutral spaces,” declares Chrissie Rucker, founder of The White Company. And it’s fair to say that few know or understand how true this is more than her - it’s been 25 years since Rucker created her business, which has become a hugely successful go-to destination based on that very philosophy. Remarkably, The White Company was born out of her frustration when she tried to help her then boyfriend (now her husband), businessman Nick Wheeler furnish his home. “Nick only had a few chipped mugs, some green towels and burgundy bed linen,” recalls Rucker with a smile. “I tried to find all the basics in white; the china, bed linen, towels, bathrobes and napkins. But I was completely overwhelmed with pattern and colour, I went home with my tail between my legs. I decided simplicity is often best and less is more.” Marking the brand’s milestone anniversary, her enduring passion for white is celebrated in her new book, For The Love Of White: The White & Neutral Home.

delightfully different from one another but work so well together. That’s what I love,” Rucker explains. White, she points out, “works with the old and with the new, with antiques and modern pieces, so it becomes timeless”. Do you think white works in any kind of setting? “I think the book proves that, yes, it does. We have townhouses that are restful retreats, where you can come in and close the door and forget about the city outside, which is really important when our lives are so hectic. “But we also have country homes and seaside escapes, where neutral colours and natural materials create a soft, warm and wonderful backdrop for family living,” Rucker adds. She highlights that each home shares the same choice of neutral palette but has it’s own highly individual blend of ingredients - from architecture and materials to fabrics and textures, which are layered in subtle and sensitive ways. What makes a white room really come alive for you? “White brings all the details of a room to life and then becomes this perfect canvas for all the layers that you want to add - the furniture, fabrics, art, books and little treasures,” says Rucker. Rooms, she says, should be furnished to appeal to all the senses - something she feels can often be overlooked. “Soft white towels and crisp sheets, stacks of white plates and folded napkins at the dinner table, along with all those little, personal touches that make a house into a home,” she notes. “So touch is really important to me and introducing lots of different textures, but sight and smell also need to be nourished,” she explains. “It’s why I love candlelight and being by the fireside, or spending time in a beautiful spa-like bathroom.”
different ways of living with white, but behind all of these houses there is plenty of planning and thought,” Rucker says of the spectrum of homes featured. Each uses natural tones and textures in a rich variety of ways - and in some very different places, she notes - and belong to creative-thinkers who have their own fresh take on the theme. “These are restful houses where the owners have spent a lot of time thinking about the layout and the flow of the rooms, the way that the lighting’s going to work and what the focal points are going to be.” Any special tips from your own home that you can pass on? Rucker says it’s vital to consider the details that help a space work and function well practically, and ensure there’s adequate storage to help keep the house clean, calm and uncluttered. “I love ‘engine room’ spaces, like larders, pantries and laundry rooms,” she adds. “Even if they’re small, tucked-away spaces, they make a huge difference to family living and help keep the rest of the house running smoothly.”

Let details shine... Be inspired by Chrissie Rucker’s colour palette and conjure a peaceful corner at home with four key pieces - a cosy chair, cushion, lamp and tea lights. “White speaks of purity and order, but it’s all those tactile elements that make natural and neutral spaces such a pleasure” says Rucker.

renwith is a fictional Cornish Estate that Rebecca and Alison the cofounders of Cream, have created to form the basis for future collections which will involve life living in an idyllic Cornish manor house overlooking a sheltered creek. The Trenwith’s, Niall and Loveday, their children and pets will provide inspiration for future collections through their ancestor’s adventures and the estates history. “You will find Trenwith at the end of a long driveway, filled either side with hydrangeas, camellias and rhododendrons, sitting above sloping lawns leading down to Trelonk, a sheltered creek at the top of the Helford river, only accessible to all but the smallest keeled boats at low tide. A large walled garden sits behind the Elizabethan house, with a gate, dating back to the 16th century, which leads to an orchard filled with fruit trees. There is an ice house, no longer used now of course and the pineapple house has been given over to growing herbs. The beehives are one of Lovedays latest projects and the honey is sold under the estates label, which now has a large range of products including Cornish tea. Much to their surprise, it’s

We took ages sampling the six colours, until we felt that there was the perfect colour choice for anyone, whether they lived by the sea or the depths of the Cornish countryside.” Rebecca: “Trenwith epitomises the Cornish countryside, especially in the Autumn when I often have to brake for fear of running over a pheasant in the road. Origin specialises in the design, construction and maintenance of swimming pools and their award winning designs have been delivered by their dedicated team for over 35 years. Designing and building a swimming pool and pool house is quite unlike any other building project as indoor swimming pools consist of three major areas that require specialist design. Origin’s experienced team manage the entire installation process from initial design to completion, and beyond. They eliminate the need for you to employ and manage separate companies for each element of the build, removing the potential risks, duplications and head- ache of liaising between architects, engineers and builders. Simply put, they do it all and keep you informed at every stage so you can relax and take a step back, secure in the knowledge that their experts will all be working together to the same brief from the start.

New for 2020 - Origin Redesigned Throughout the year, Origin has been hard at work completing numerous projects. With each one they try something different and learn something new and their most recent project was no exception. What started as a barn design pool house was transformed into what you see below after the client approached them, inspired by another building they had seen. This design is unlike anything Origin has built before and needless to say, both the company and the clients are thrilled with the results. As Origin do it all, they were able to work closely with the clients from the start, take on board their vision and come up with a design that was not only feasible, but one that looked great too. Everything about the pool house is unique, from exterior shape to the application of the cedarwood planks used vertically instead of a horizontal layout. The interior pool house boasts a kitchen area, changing room and bathroom facility as well as a stunning pool, contemporary sliding doors that allow the outside in and a virtual transparency to take account of the amazing surrounding countryside. This project, while different has proved that Origin’s years of knowledge and experience are second to none and
“Origin were tasked with coming up with a solution that didn’t compromise our view” any prospective pool owners will be inspired to see what is possible when you work with Origin. “We love looking at the view out from the house down into the garden, so Origin were tasked with coming up with a solution that didn’t compromise our view. The contemporary sliding doors and glass panels on the pool house provide this, we can see straight through all the way to the end of the paddock.” “The thing about Origin is that you get this overwhelming sense that everyone knows what they’re doing, it fills you with confidence. We always felt like we could talk with someone from Origin whenever we needed.” “Our own oasis”
What’s next? Origin have just launched their new-look website containing the advice centre which features articles from their bi-weekly newsletter, that includes tips and tricks for getting the most out of your pool as well as educational features and testimonials from previous projects. The aim of this is to create a place where their clients can go to find inspiration for their own projects and be a part of the Origin community. Everything You Need To know About Dulux’s Colour of The Year 2020
Every autumn, dulux reveal their colour predictions for the year ahead. a source of inspiration and hope, they seek to tap into the current Zeitgeist, using the evocative language of colour to express what words and politics cannot. this year, they’ve released four key palettes – Meaning, creativity, care and Play. central to each chromatic composition is the shade ‘tranquil dawn’— a milky sage that oozes serenity. according to the experts, “it reflects a growing desire to understand what it is to be human at a time when advances in technology are making us feel increasingly disconnected.”

A
nd while colour might seem like an optimistic salve to such an existential issue, we know that our environment has the power to shape how we think and feel, which in turn informs our actions. Creating a home that rejuvenates, inspires and soothes is a necessity in today’s hyperconnected world, and colour offers us a crucial way in. With this in mind, we’ve taken each of the palettes proposed by Dulux and investigated how they can be deployed to create a stylish and inspiring home. The meaning palette features neutrals that go beyond the usual beige and into more promising, evocative territories. Dark charcoals meet sea-shorn greys only to be uplifted by hazy greens and soft lavenders. Together, they offer a sophisticated alternative to pastels, swapping bubbly millennial hues for something a little more serene. Our top tip is to contrast these cool tones with rich and indulgent fabrics for a cosy and comforting look. Think B&B ITALIA‘s quilted HUSK SOFA or GUBI’S perennially stylish REVERS CHAIR in velvet. When it comes to wood, black-stained or darker finishes provide a beautiful contrast point, allowing these soft neutrals to really sing. Creativity encapsulates the piquancy of autumn, peppering traditional earthy hues with dusty jewel tones. Dramatic and daring, it’s a rich and sophisticated palette for those who feel more confident experimenting with colour. One easy way to get in on the trend is by incorporating a colourful lacquered bookcase into your interior. CATTELAN ITALIA‘s WALLY makes a gorgeous statement in soft teal, acting as a striking background for this autumnal interior. GALLOTTI & RADICE‘s gorgeous Art Deco style collection also lends itself well to such dusty jewel tones, with the AUDREY ARMCHAIR and Syil Cabinets a perfect duo. The
key here is to have fun, mixing styles and shades for optimal results. The care palette goes right to the heart of the Tranquil Dawn campaign, serving up soothing pastel hues to create a relaxing and inviting space. A mix of delicate ochres, muted pinks and ocean shades, it lends itself particularly well to Scandinavian styles with GUBI, MUUTO and FRITZ HANSEN leading the fore. Ideal for bedrooms and kitchens, we recommend incorporating furniture with a minimal design language to help emphasise the poetry of the palette. MUUTO’S FIBER BARSTOOLS or LOUIS POULSEN‘s YUH FLOOR LAMP are a particular delight, inviting clean lines into open space. The play palette is the most serendipitous and encourages you to spark colourful conversations through contrast. Ideal for vibrant bedrooms, it takes sunny upbeat hues such as orange and red and pairs them with Tranquil Dawn for an offbeat graphic effect. While striped feature walls have been indicated by the colour experts, we recommend taking just a couple of shades, say zesty yellow and burnt orange, and introducing them slowly into your interior. This vibrant palette looks fantastic with dark woods and natural textiles, with brands like PORADA as a natural starting point. It’s important to remember that homes are beautiful because of the feelings and possibilities they evoke, so be sure to have fun with your décor.
