No Major, No Problem 10 Steps to help you find your

major and your path in life.

1) Know Yourself. Pick a major that matches both your interests and strengths. You’re more likely to enjoy college when you study what you love.

2) Talk to Your Advisor. Advisors are here to help. They can guide you through degree options and point out programs you may not have considered. Research potential salaries and job availability in your field of interest. Passion is important, but so is making a living.

7) Understand the Requirements of a Profession. It’s important to do research on the requirements needed in order to enter a certain field or profession. Some will be more demanding than others, and advisors will be able to help you with this part.

4) Explore If You’re Unsure. Get involved to discover your interests:

8) Browse Job Boards or Handshake. Use sites like Handshake,

LinkedIn or Indeed to gain a better understanding of current roles, qualifications they require, and what excites you within the professions of your potential major.

5) Reconnect with Old Dreams. Think back to what excited you as a child. Were you discouraged from pursuing it? Revisit that dream. If it still brings you joy, consider majoring in it.

9) You Have Some Time. You don’t have to declare a major right away. You can start as an undecided student and give yourself time to explore different subjects, complete general education courses, and discover the right major. Working closely with your academic advisor, you’ll clarify your goals and choose the major that’s right for you.

The goal is to help level the “playing field” for students in compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Accommodations are arranged on a case-by-case basis each semester.

Start Strong, Finish Strong

The Writing and Academic Support Center (WASC) upholds Fisher’s mission of helping students become independent learners, critical thinkers, and successful students.
