HOLIDAYS AHEAD The women of First Lutheran invite you to join them for Holidays Ahead on Saturday,

November 17, 2018. The event will be in Bethany Hall at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea from 8:30 am-12:30 pm. Coffee with Scandinavian goodies will be available from 8:30 –10:30 am. A wonderful luncheon will be served from 11 am-12:30 pm. Tables will be set up throughout Bethany Hall and MultiPurpose Room so that you can shop for crafts, cookies and candy.

♫ ♫ ♫ MUSICAL REFLECTIONS ♫ ♫ ♫ In 2 Chronicles 5:13 we hear, "The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by the trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: 'He is good; his love endures forever!' " This is a season of THANKSGIVING! This Scripture reminds me that we will gather on Thanksgiving Eve in our beautiful Sanctuary to GIVE THANKS TO GOD for all the mighty blessings that God has given us.

Our choir will sing praises! And, yes, as this Scripture says, we will have trumpets and other instruments that take the worship to new heights. Alleluia! Our Hand Bell Choir will ring for the festivities. We will celebrate our Annual Procession of the Harvest with Flags and Banners! We will give thanks to God for the freedoms we have in our country as our local Albert Lea Honor Guard presents the colors. The Altar Guild always makes the Altar look so beautiful with the fruits of the harvest. This is a special service and we hope you will be here to celebrate and GIVE THANKS! Blood Draws to get tested for lead.(Target populations are kids ages 0-6 and pregnant women. The first ten families with kids 0-6 to get tested will get a FREE HEPA vacuum Cleaner.

You can bring paint chips, toys, antiques, ceramic dishes, etc. to be tested for lead.

Health Educations to discuss possible lead sources.

Everyone who attends will get a FREE handwashing kit and every child will get a free toy.

Saturday, November 17, 2018 is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day –

A day when those affected by suicide loss will gather around the world to find comfort and gain understanding as stories of healing and hope are shared. Bonnerup Funeral Service will offer an event for Survivors of Suicide Loss from 1PM – 5PM, 11/17/2018 at 2210 E Main St., Albert Lea. The program features an American Foundation for Suicide Prevention documentary of “A Daughter’s Journey” that follows a young adult through her story of milestones, family coping and positive growth after the loss of her father. This year’s film shares hope, connection and resilience in the aftermath of a suicide loss. The hope is that survivors will know they are not alone and can find hope, meaning and even joy after losing a loved one.

Sunday, November 11th, 2018 Soup will be served from 10:30am –1pm Meeting will be at 11:45am All in Bethany Hall Presentation of the 2019 Budget Recap of 2018 Successes and 2019 Goals!

We are bringing back Stone Soup (A Hearty Homemade Vegetable Soup) Free Will Donation with all proceeds going to help the “Food for Backpack Program” FLC provides meals on the weekends for 145 Children at Halvorson School costing around $24,000/year.

Please bring fruit and vegetables to the Sacristy on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. We will be decorating the Altar for Thanksgiving Worship. We will gather at 6 pm and will decorate in the Church Sanctuary. Immediately following we will gather for a meeting and supper in Bethany Hall. Monetary Donations can be brought to the church office.

Cookbook Update! The cookbooks will arrive some time after the first of the year, 2019. The price of the FLC Cookbook

cookbook is $15.00. It is a padded 3 ring binder. Because we know some of you are purchasing cookbooks for gifts, we will have regular and holiday gift certificates that you can give in place of the book if your gift event is Christmas or occurs before the books come in. These certificates will be available at the Welcome Center or the church office.

If you wish to reserve a copy of the book, the forms are also available at the Welcome Center or in the rack outside the church office. The reservation form is on the back side of the recipe form you used to submit recipes. We look forward to delivering your unique

cookbook in early January. No need to pay for the books until they are delivered. The reservations just help us in determining the demand for the book. Thank you.

“The Perfect Gift”

The First Lutheran Church Council and Ministry Review Team will be holding a Q and A Session on Monday, November 5th, 2018 from 6:30-8:30pm in the Sanctuary.

First Lutheran Church’s gift shop has a name!

“The Perfect Gift” is looking for volunteers that would be interested in working in our shop for 2-3 hour shifts.

The hours of our shop are: Monday- Wednesday-Friday- 11am-1pm Thursday- 6pm-8pm Sunday- 9am-12pm

We strongly encourage anyone on any Team (Commission) to attend to ask their questions. We will be presenting the new process along with answering questions that have been raised regarding the change in the election process. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

We are getting closer to finishing the room. Kitchen cabinets and counters are in, the floor is done.

What is a Recharge? A Recharge is a weekend retreat at Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp in Milford, IA. For those who have been to confirmation camp, it’s a lot like a week of camp packed into a weekend. The weekend consists of worship, skits, food, games, meeting other youth, fellowship, craziness, fun, and much more. Recharges begin on Friday at 8 p.m. and end on Sunday 12:00 p.m.

The Special Outreach Cause offerings for November are designated for the Noisy Offering for the Salvation Army Food Shelf.

Special offering envelopes will be available from the ushers at church services.

Personal Visitation by the Pastors To support people at the time of illness or injury, pastors do make personal visits in hospitals, homes or Care Centers. Many hospitals, like the Mayo’s Methodist & St. Mary’s Hospitals in Rochester no longer give pastors access to lists of patients. So, if we happen to be there visiting someone, and we don’t know about someone else hospitalized, we have no way of discovering that person any more. Hospitals do NOT call pastors/churches to inform them of admissions, and have not for decades. So, please, call, if you want us to know.
