Now in this season of Easter we bask in the echoes of the truth of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul put it this way in the great Resurrection Chapter of the Bible: 1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures... (First Corinthians 15:1-4) The name of our church, First Lutheran Church, does not mean we think that FLC is the first church in town, or even the best. It means that we must always keep of first importance what Paul referred above: the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus! The hymn above has stood the test of time. Its message is clear. I would invite you to meditate on it. Meditating on Scripture verses or great hymn verses can be very good for the soul. Just read it over several times. Think about each phrase, Repeat it again. Then pray, asking Holy Spirit to plant that truth deep in your soul. You’ll be glad you did! + + + Here are some other things of note for you: What a wonderful Holy Week, Easter and Centennial Celebration! Thanks to all who have put in such tireless effort to bring everything together. How energized we feel from these! Our congregation meeting for the election of leaders for our church for the next two years is coming up on Sunday, May 5. I am so grateful for all who step up to be servant leaders here in FLC. National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 2. Remember to focus on prayer under the theme “Love One Another” wherever you are. Come to the noon event at the Courthouse & the evening service at FLC. ShineFest week of service to a neighborhood in Albert Lea is May 19-23. Sign up at church to serve. The Committee on the Election of a Bishop posted videos of the seven nominees for bishop. Here’s the link: http://semnsynod.org/candidates2019/. Three discernment conversations with these candidates will take place around the synod. The nearest one is Monday, May 13, from 6:30PM-8:30PM in Waseca. I plan to attend. Let me know if you’d like to come along. We could take the church van. (The first ten to sign up can ride along in the van. Sign up in the church office or call in to sign up 3736424.) We’ll depart from the church at about 5:45PM Moving Forward—As we continue in our journey together as FLC, our confidence is in the God who surrounds us and lives within us, giving us encouragement, Friendship, care, light, love, joy and peace. May all we say and do, plan and dream, be done for the glory of Jesus Christ, Who leads us into a bright, hopeful future! We know, of First Importance, that Our Redeemer Lives! NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT The FLC 2017-2019 Nominating Committee has been working prayerfully and diligently to identify and recruit members of FLC to serve in leadership and service teams and positions for our church. The following names are ones we have identified so far in our task to present the ballot for our Congregation Elections Meeting to be held at 11:45 am on Sunday, May 5, 2019, in Bethany Hall. Quilt squares for the FLC Centennial quilt are now available, along with instructions, in the Gathering Space on Sunday morning. We hope all family units will want to make a square for the quilt. There is a table set up outside the church office where fabric pens are available if you want to make a square while you are at church instead of doing it at home. We look forward to seeing all the squares you will create.

Psalm 105:103 God has told a marvelous story through the many musicians of First Lutheran Church during this season of Lent and the Centennial Celebration. Thanks be to God first and foremost! I also want to thank the many people individually. Thanks for all the musicians and supporters who made our musical happenings very successful during April. Many of you sponsored a hotel room for the Luther Collegiate Choir. Thank you so much. Thank you to the Fredins who hosted four of the choir members in their home. Thanks to Susan Forde and Joe LaFrance as Master Planner and Chief Cook for the choir meal. Thanks to the Worship-Music-Art Commission for all the support you gave for this meal and concert and housing. I hope I don't miss anyone, but thank you to those who came to help set tables, serve food, and clean up Bethany Hall, including the Wacholz Family: Afton, Phil, Nevaeh, and Brecken, The Forde Family: Susan, Sean, and Rebecca, Kathy Carter, Deb Koenigs, Joe LaFrance, Jenny Edwin. Thanks to all of you who attended the concert. We had 425 people in attendance that night. We all want to thank the Luther Collegiate Chorale and Director Robison for a moving, powerful, and unforgettable concert experience. To God Be the Glory! Personal Visitation by the Pastors To support people at the time of illness or injury, pastors do make personal visits in hospitals, homes or Care Centers. Many hospitals, like the Mayo’s Methodist & St. Mary’s Hospitals in Rochester no longer give pastors access to lists of patients. So, if we happen to be there visiting someone, and we don’t know about someone else hospitalized, we have no way of discovering that person any more. Hospitals do NOT call pastors/churches to inform them of admissions, and have not for decades. So, please, call, if you want us to know. We try to be available in emergencies.
