Rejoice in the Lord

Peter: Through the Eyes of Matthew is the new book written by Pastor Sean. The book is a first person retelling of events from Peter’s time with Jesus. Journey with Peter from his first call to the Sermon on the Mount; from walking on water to receiving a new name; from witnessing the crucifixion to receiving the great commission.

This writing process has been an enjoyable one. Our congregation is awesome and I could not do it without your love and support. Please know how much I appreciate our Journey together and your love for the Lord. It is my prayer that you have the best summer ever as you enjoy the beautiful weather, enjoy your vacations, and enjoy fellowship with good company. Once again, thank you.

The book will be available at church the weekend of June 3, 2018. It is my hope that you add it to your summer reading list. I will preach a four week sermon series on Peter: Through the Eyes of Matthew beginning Sunday July 8th through Sunday July 29th.

In Christ’s Love, Pastor Sean L. Forde

 JUNE MESSAGE SERIES — MARRIAGE  Our message series for June is on marriage. What better month could there be for this than June— traditionally a month for weddings! This series is intended to be encouraging to everyone. It will be worthwhile not only for the married, engaged or those hoping to be married, but helpful to all of us who live in relationships with others. It will not be a comprehensive look at marriage, but celebrative of God’s good gift of life, love, grace and faith. Included will be some practical application that we can use right away. This four week series will encompass five weeks, because our missionaries, Curtis & Katie Kline, plan to visit us on Sunday, June 22, when we’ll focus on their work in Colombia. I encourage you to make the effort to attend Sunday worship every week this summer at 8:00 or 10:00 am (or Thursdays at 6:30 pm). You will be blessed and be a blessing to others. God loves you & so do I,

MUSICAL NOTES Summer is finally here! Our town is beautiful as things continue to turn green! What a beautiful world we live in. When I see a glorious sunset, watch a majestic hawk survey the fairgrounds for dinner, or enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants all around Albert Lea, I think of the great hymn This Is My Father's World. This hymn was written by Maltbie Babcock. He was a remarkable individual who was truly a man with many talents. He was an outstanding athlete, excellent student at Syracuse University, and also an accomplished musician. He went on to Seminary and became a Pastor. He was a hardnosed worker and his philosophy was, "Be strong"! We are not here to play, to dream, to drift. We have hard work to do and loads to lift: "Shun not the struggle. Face it. 'Tis God's gift! Be strong!" On his softer side, while a pastor, he wrote the beautiful words to This Is My Father's World to show his love for nature and honor for our Creator. There are sixteen verses to this poem turned hymn. Verse 1 is so familiar to us "This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears; all nature sings and round me rings the music of the spheres. This is my Father's world; I rest me in the thought--of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; His hand the wonders wrought."

PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING ONE OF OUR CHOIRS— First Lutheran Church Choir--Open to ages youth through adult--Wednesday Rehearsals from 6:30 to 8 PM. You don't have to read music! We will work with you! Habitat 500 Bike Ride —July 9-15, 2018 For the 22nd year, I will be riding in the Habitat 500, and I plan that this will be the final time I ride the full week. This year’s ride takes place during the week of July 9-15 beginning and ending in Becker, Minnesota with the opportunity to work on a Habitat home near Alexandria. Back in 1997 when I decided to experience the challenge of a long bike ride to raise money for Habitat for Humanity, I never dreamed that I would keep on riding for all these years. Yet, two bikes and over $170,000 later, here I am. I believe that Habitat for Humanity provides a wonderful opportunity for us to live our faith as we give people the opportunity to become the owners of simple, Yet, two bikes decent, affordable homes. The funds I raise come back to our local Freebornand over Mower affiliate, which, in turn, sends a tithe of all donations to the International $170,000 later, organization. here I am. In the past, the First Lutheran family has generously supported my efforts both financially and spiritually. There will be a between services coffee on June 17 during which you can make a contribution to my efforts. Throughout the month of June you can also drop off your donations in the church office or mail them to me at 1129 Lakeview Blvd. Checks can be made to either First Lutheran Church or Habitat 500. Receipts can be provided for your tax records, however, so cash is also fine. Please remember that no contribution is too small. You can also use the Special envelopes for the cause of the month and write Habitat 500 as the cause. If you would like to give on-line, the address is No donation is too small. I treasure them all. If your finances do not permit you to make a monetary contribution, please keep me and my fellow riders in your prayers. We always need those, and they don’t cost a thing! Thank you and God bless you. Lilah Aas

PERSONAL VISITATION BY THE PASTORS To support people at the time of illness or injury we pastors do make personal visits in the hospital, homes or Care Centers. We occasionally check local hospital lists, but sometimes names do not show up on the list. So, please, call, if you want us to know. Do not hesitate to call the church [373-6424], if you have not seen a pastor and would like to request a visit. We try to be available in emergencies. ‘After hours’ the church phone system will automatically put your call through to the pastor ‘on call’ by keying #3. We ask permission before we include a name on our printed prayer list. Please let us know if you want to be on the list or be visited.~ Your FLC Pastors 15
