Dear Friends in Christ, Thank you for being part of our First Lutheran family. We wish you a blessed Easter season. Jesus is awesome in so many ways; being born into a fallen humanity, taking the form of a servant, humbling himself in obedience, overcoming sin and death so that we may have life today and salvation forever. What Jesus does while walking the earth is amazing: leading, teaching, preaching, healing, serving, and loving therefore he deserves all the names ascribed to him…Wonderful Counselor, Bread of Life, Lamb of God, Light of the World, Good Shepherd and so much more. But there is one name he cannot lay claim to until he goes to the cross and is raised from the dead. It is the one singular and uniquely exclusive name that belongs solely to him; it is the name of Christ. Jesus doesn’t become Christ until he goes to the cross and through the cross to new life. It is only through his resurrection that he becomes Jesus the Christ. Why is this important? Many non believers and historians admit, just like we do, that Jesus lived and died on a cross. However, for centuries people have struggled with the resurrection. They somehow get stuck at Good Friday and can’t believe the Easter witness, namely that Jesus overcame the grave and became Christ. On Easter, the power of God is in full display. The resurrected Jesus takes his rightful name, the Christ. And after visiting many of his followers, takes his rightful place seated at the right hand of the Father. And we who follow Him also take our rightful name as Chrīst—ians. We are Chrīstians; people who follow Christ to the cross and through the cross to new life. We are those who confess with our “tongues and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil 2:11). Chrīstians are Easter people who live in the light and love of Jesus the Christ. May the love of Christ shine on you, in you, and through you both now and always. Sweet Hour of Prayer is an expression of the

church’s ministry of prayer and healing on Tuesday, April 25th between 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the Chapel. All are invited to enter or leave at anytime during the hour and stay for as little or as long as they desire. You may sit silently and pray, listen to music led by Tim O’Shields, be prayed for by Pastor Holt or Forde, or all of the above. It’s a time for personal prayers for healing in body, mind and spirit. It can also serve as a time of prayer for our families, our local community, state, nation, and the world. We look forward to praying with you and for you.

THANK YOU Thank you to the 12 volunteers who came out Thursday and Saturday to complete the pew washing project. The sweet smell of Murphys Oil Soap filled the air as we washed and vacuumed and cleaned the pews. It was a project of love and service that we shared. Thank you for helping and worshiping God with both hands and hearts.

Spring Break Trip 2017 21 youth and adults from First and Grace Lutheran Church spent 2 days in the Twin Cities over spring break (March 13-14). They volunteered with Feed My Starving Children, Second Harvest Heartland, and Global Health Ministries. They also took in a Timberwolves game and went to a indoor trampoline park.

PERSONAL VISITATION BY THE PASTORS To support people at the time of illness or injury, we pastors do make personal visits to the hospital, homes or Care Centers. We occasionally check local hospital lists, but sometimes names do not show up on the list. So, please, call, if you want us to know. Do not hesitate to call the church [373-6424], if you have not seen a pastor and would like to request a visit. We try to be available in emergencies. ‘After hours’ the church phone system will automatically put your call through to the pastor ‘on call’ by keying #3. MUSICAL NOTES It's hard to believe that it is April! Peace to you all as we round the corner to spring! "Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world." This is a quote by Martin Luther. Martin Luther was quite prolific in his writing of music and hymns. He created worship experiences and told the story from the Word of God through music. Luther's example is a great one to follow. Here at First Lutheran, we have a rich tradition and love for music in our services. Thanks be to God for that tradition and love! You all know how I love the stories of Jesus Christ as he walked the earth. He loved, taught, healed, and preached on his journey. While I deeply love the humility and majesty of the Nativity, I believe the most powerful stories came in Jesus' last days. Through our Lenten Journey To New Life, our music ministry will work hard throughout the rest of Lent, on Palm Sunday, on Maundy Thursday, on Good Friday, and then on Easter Sunday Morning to tell the stories of Jesus through Music. On Maundy Thursday, our Word Alive team will present a "Living Lord's Supper". Jesus and the Twelve will create the backdrop for our Communion on that night. Good Friday, our choir will provide beautiful anthems to complement the sharing of the Last Seven Words of Christ by seven lay speakers from First Lutheran Church. Palm Sunday--Come and join the festivities. Our choral introit will feature our FLC Choir, Combined Children's Choir and Sunday School Choirs, a Full Brass Choir, Hand Bells, Timpani, and Organ--"To whom the lips of children, made sweet Hosanna's ring!" The Palm Procession will be a majestic tribute to Christ's Entry into Jerusalem as All Glory Laud and Honor. Easter Sunday--at 6 AM and 8 AM, we will have a full brass choir with timpani and organ. Our choir will proclaim the resurrection of Christ at the 8 AM service with a powerful Choral Introit called Christ is Alive! Our Anthem on Easter is the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah by G.F. Handel. Remaining Lenten Meditations at 12:30 PM on Wednesdays in the Sanctuary: April 5th--Sharon Astrup-Scott, Violin with Piano April 12th--Tim O'Shields, My Call Story and Music to Tell The Story Rays of Light Children's Choir (K-Grade 4)-Wednesdays: 3:30-4:15 Sounds of Joy Children's Choir (Grades 5-9) - Wednesdays: 4:15-5:15 PM The First Lutheran Church Hand Bell Choir-Wednesdays: 5:30-6:25 PM Spirit Express meets on Tuesdays at 7:15 PM for the Singers and at 7:45 PM for the Band with the Singers. We, the Spirit Express, are committed to worship leadership and music in our 10:30 Service. The First Lutheran Church Choir meets on Wednesdays at 6:30-8 PM. (7:30-9 PM on Wednesdays in Lent due to the 6:30 PM Service). We also have our annual Choral Scholars Program for youth in 10th grade through college, who are continuing or planning to continue their education.
