Vintage The 2022 growing season was a beautiful one in the vineyards of Sonoma Coast. Sun-loving Merlot and Malbec enjoyed a warm, dry ripening season without the interruption of summer storms. High heat in early autumn meant harvest was pushed up in order to capture the perfect balance of ripe fruit flavor and natural acidity.

Region Stretching along California’s rugged northern shores, Sonoma Coast is the largest AVA in Sonoma County. Its abundant sunshine and proximity to the ocean help grapes reach an ideal balance of ripe fruit characteristics and natural acidity. Merlot and Malbec are warmthloving grapes. They flourish throughout the region’s vineyards, from high sites above the fog line to warm, misty valley floors, creating structured yet delicate wines with freshness and finesse.

Tasting notes Our balanced blend of Merlot and Malbec shows off the best of both varietals. An aromatic bouquet of dark purple fruit, savory scents of forest floor, and oak-driven vanilla and caramel notes create a warm, woodsy feeling on the nose. The palate has an elegant structure built by modest acidity and refined tannins with lavender, violet and balsamic notes joining mulberry and blackberry, followed by hints of clove on the finish.

Pairing logic This delightful blend is an excellent go-to for food and wine pairing. Savory aromas, oaky spice, and smooth tannins make it a perfect match for herbal or baking spice-inspired seasonings, tender red meat or pork. Select earthy vegetables and legumes seasoned with salt and olive oil for vegetarian dishes to highlight the wine’s body and ripe berry flavors. Elevate the experience even further by featuring lavender or balsamic in your sauces and marinades for a harmonious pairing experience.

Menu suggestions • Baked brie with blackberry reduction and thyme • Caramelized onion and portobello mushroom soup • Root vegetable gratin with herbs and cheese • Brined cedar plank pork tenderloin • Lavender-rosemary grilled ribeye • Slow-cooked balsamic beef stew

Winemaking Blending wine is truly an art form as winemakers skillfully test different proportions to unlock the perfect varietal balance. In this case, a 50/50 split in the magic number. Merlot drives the wine’s elegant profile, floral notes, and bright fruit, while Malbec brings its darker fruit character, earthiness, and structure. Oak adds a final layer of spice before the cork is sealed on a multilayered masterpiece.

Spotlight Cellar • Blending wine involves carefully selecting varieties for desired flavors and structural characteristics • Oak adds complexity and flavor while softening textures

Vineyard • Moderate drought-like conditions increase flavor concentration

• It is important to align harvest with optimal ripeness for balanced wines
