Vintage

The 2020 harvest is one for the books as this vintage faced each end of the extreme weather spectrum. Thankfully, experienced grape growers know how to make nature’s obstacles work in their favor. With lower yields due to spring frosts and summer’s drought-like conditions, flavor concentration skyrocketed as ripening sped up. This called for an early harvest as winemakers monitored the grapes closely, waiting for the opportune moment when natural sugars, flavors and acids reached sublime equilibrium.

Chile ranks among the world’s most reputable producers of quality Pinot Noir featuring rich fruit flavors, earthiness and dynamic textures. Following its arrival in the mid-1900s, Pinot Noir quickly took to the vineyards of the Maule Valley. Here, the temperature-moderating Maule River ensures these thin-skinned grapes do not overripen under the powerful Chilean sun. These waters are also responsible for the area’s unique stony alluvial soils, providing the ideal balance between water retention, drainage and vital nutrients to vines.

Tasting notes

Our Pinot Noir remains true to its distinctly Chilean style throughout each stage of your tasting experience. On the nose, enticing aromas of vanilla join wild strawberry with hints of cola. The palate is light-bodied, with delicate acidity contrasted by a firm tannic structure. Though its aromatic bouquet provides a bright, vibrant introduction, the palate features a darker side, boasting rich bramble fruit, pomegranate and plum flavors.

Pairing logic

This Pinot Noir offers richer fruit flavors and bolder tannins than lighter styles, meaning it will stand up to flavorful foods. Tender cuts of poultry, pork or beef will highlight the wine’s concentrated flavors as its tannins break down meaty proteins. While most vegetables will pair well, this Pinot’s flavors are dense and ripe, as opposed to fresh. This makes cooked veggies the best choice over raw. Season your dish with salt, fruit-based glazes and marinades.

Winemaking

Through the challenges of 2020, our determination to uphold Chile’s reputation as the master of consistency drove each decision in our winemaking process. By quickly harvesting our grapes, 90 percent by machine and 10 percent by hand, we captured the optimum balance of flavor and freshness. To further accentuate this, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures before oak introduced a touch of toasty nuance without dulling our Pinot Noir’s juicy, fruit-forward character.

Spotlight

Cellar

• Fermentation in stainless steel preserves freshness and does not impart flavor.

• Oak contact adds complexity and flavor while softening tannins.

Vineyard

• Moderate drought-like conditions increase flavor concentration.

• Machine harvesting is the quickest method, ensuring even ripeness levels and varietal freshness.
