Mumbai: After taking possession from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now undertaken the maintenance works of the Western Express Highway
(WEH) and Eastern Express Highway (EEH). Asphalt and concrete will be used to fill up the patches, with the total cost of maintenance work falling around Rs236 crore.

The civic body has always been targeted over rough roads. During the monsoon, these roads become worse for driving with potholes playing a crucial role in it. The municipal corporation faces criticism over accidents due to the bad shape of the roads. There are 2,000km of roads in Mumbai which are owned and maintained regularly by BMC. The civic body said that the roads owned by MSRDC, Port Trust, PWD and MMRDA are poorly maintained, but only BMC is being targeted for the potholes. The civic body was demanding that the BMC should be made the sole authority in Mumbai.
After the Shinde-Fadnavis government came into existence, WEH and EEH were handed over to BMC. Now it istheir responsibility to maintain it. According to Ulhas Mahale, Deputy Commissioner of Infrastructure, “This is a pre-monsoon work. We have invited tenders, it will take time to scrutinize documents, selection of contractors and issuance of work orders.”
Another official said, “We will fill up potholes and bad patches. But will not do any work on the flyovers which are with MSRDC.” the accident near Inorbit Mall around 2.30 am. Thane: A history-sheeter who had allegedly demanded Rs5 lakh from a builder in Bhiwandi in Thane district has been arrested, a police official said on Saturday. The 55-yearold accused who has a previous criminal record was held on Thursday from Kongaon for threatening the builder and vandalising the office at his construction site a day earlier, Kishore Khairnar, Assistant Commissioner of Police said. The police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
Woman Held For Operating Sex Racket In Thane
Thane: A 24-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly running a sex racket in Thane, a police official said on Saturday. The accused woman is a resident of Andheri in Mumbai and she has been booked under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Kalwa police station official said.Police arrested the woman on Thursday from Kalwa Naka after a tip-off about the flesh trade was confirmed by a decoy customer, he added.
THANE’S COVID-19 TALLY RISES BY ONE, TO TOUCH 7,47,454; ACTIVE CASES AT SIX
Thane: The COVID-19 tally in the state’s Thane district increased by one and reached 7,47,454, while the death toll stood unchanged at 11,969, a health official said on Saturday. So far, 7,36,247 persons have recovered from the infection, the official said. There are six active cases of COVID-19 in the district at present, he added. This number is indicative of the significant strides the region has made in containing the virus and encouraging recovery and good health amongst those affected.
