Fresh violence has been reported from Kaliyaganj in West Bengal amidst anger over the alleged rape and murder of a teenager whose body was found on Friday. The police had to use force & fire tear gas shells again to bring the situation under control, and more forces have been deployed in the area to maintain calm.

Slamming the West Bengal government over the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP
Locket Chatterjee on Saturday demanded the resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee and claimed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo is not doing justice to her post and police were incapable of investigating the incident.
Police sources have countered by saying they had to recover the body from an extremely volatile law and order situation to preserve evidence that is important in the investigation.

New Delhi (ANI): The National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of a video which purportedly showed that a minor girl was raped and murdered by a group of men in North Dinajpur’s Kaliaganj, West Bengal, said an official release on Saturday. “Further, in a video police can be seen dragging the body of the victim ruthlessly and inappropriately,” added the release. Informing about the response of NCW regarding the incident, the release said, “The Commission has taken cognizance of the reported crime. Considering the gravity of the matter, Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the Director General of Police, West Bengal to personally intervene in the matter and ensure that a fair and time-bound investigation is conducted into the matter. Further, the release also mentioned that the Commission has sought an FIR and asked for detailed action against the accused. “Also, stringent action must be taken against erring police officers for dragging the body inappropriately,” read the release.

Former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik visited a police station in New Delhi’s RK Puram on Saturday, a day after receiving a summons from CBI in a corruption case. Police firmly denied reports that he had been arrested and issued a statement saying the politician had turned up at police station “of his own volition”. As per sources, Malik visited the police station after cops objected to a meeting organised in park near his home.
