Welcome to Urinetown—a musical that’s as bold, bizarre, and bitingly funny today as it was when it first hit the stage. On the surface, it’s a satirical comedy about a dystopian city where a water shortage has led to a ban on private toilets. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll find that Urinetown is a razor-sharp commentary on power, privilege, capitalism, and the cost of revolution.
What makes Urinetown so compelling and so fun is that it refuses to take itself too seriously while tackling very serious issues. It’s a show that constantly winks at the audience, reminding us that we are watching a musical, complete with toetapping numbers, romantic subplots, and over-the-top melodrama. But it also challenges us to think about our systems, our leaders, and even our own roles in society.
Ultimately, Urinetown is a celebration of theater’s power to provoke, entertain, and unsettle—all at the same time. We’ve embraced the absurdity, leaned into the irony, and, above all, tried to honor the spirit of a show that dares to ask: What if the world really did run out of something as simple—and essential— as a place to pee?
Thank you to the cast and crew for their incredible work to bring this production to life! Andrew would like to thank his beautiful wife, Jana, and amazing son, Arlo, for their love and support. Now sit back, relax, hold your pee, and enjoy Urinetown!
