Twelve Angry Men premiered as a teleplay in 1954. The 1957 film version, starring Henry Fonda, is a who's who of memorable midcentury character actors. The camera captures the subtlety in every bead of sweat and the subtext in every knowing glance. It's a vibrant testimony to the craftsmanship of a bygone era. But on closer examination, Twelve Angry Jurors is much more than a relic. This is a well-crafted, captivating story that unfolds in real time as a dozen strangers clash over a young man's fate. Significantly, the themes that emerge in Twelve Angry Jurors, although crafted over 60 years ago, are prescient and powerfully, painfully relevant. Is justice truly blind? Or blind just for some? Who speaks for those who can't speak for themselves? Whose truth carries the day? Twelve Angry Jurors shows us how one reasoned voice can triumph over a cacophony of hate and prejudice.
We invite you to be an active participant throughout the show by utilizing the evidence in your program, taking notes, and drawing your own conclusions. We encourage further discussion at intermission and after the show at our evidence table where you can see each piece of evidence up close.
Thank you SO much to this cast and crew for handling this important text with such care. The fact that each one of you has created such stunning work in less than a week is truly extraordinary, and we’re so proud of you all.
To The King!
