Tina’s Tales Hi everyone,

Well it is already October but where has the year gone, my goodness. I was only worried about winter not long ago and now it has been over 30 degrees. Well I do like summer so it is nice to have some warmth around.

Things are happening pretty quickly at the moment with everyone picking up for the end of the eyar. I hope things are improving for you and those quotes are being accepted and you will have a good end to the year.

It is good to have the election over so that we all can focus on our business, our family and just with getting on with things. Usually at this time of the year you can tell the people whose team has won the footy season because they can’t stop talking about it. Good luck to those whose team won, and better luck next year for everyone else. I do know one thing for those AFL supporters in that the Sydney Swans fans can’t wait until next year because of Buddy. Anyway we will see what 2014 brings for your team.

We have our new price book out for October as we have added some new tapware to our range. Some very nice looking square taps for the kitchen. They look really nice. They are all on display at our new showroom. If you are ever in the Five Dock area just drop in and have a look.

With the result of the election we will see what the new government does for business especially small business. Let’s hope they are serious about improving things for business. Everyone talks about it but no one does anything.

For the Christmas period our last day for 2013 will be Wednesday 19th December and we will reopen on Wednesday 15th January 2014. I am looking forward to the break, like most years, and just putting my feet up and chilling out.

Have you been watching the X factor and Australia’s got talent. I must say there are some very talented people in Australia especially the kids. My goodness they are good and talented. They certainly are dedicated to their music, dance or gymnastic skill. Here I am finding it difficult to jump out of bed and they are doing all these cartwheels and everything else. Good luck to them all it is hard to pick a winner because they are all so good.

Tina’s Tales cont As you know we now range the Gorenje branded products. Here is some background on Gorenje: Who is Gorenje?

Gorenje is one of the five largest household appliance manufacturers in Europe. They are based in Slovenia.

How long have they been around?

Gorenje was established in 1950 in a village of the same name in celebrated 60 years of operation.

Marketing Tips ABM: Always Be Marketing. Everything you do has got to be marketing.

AME: Add value, Make a difference, and Enrich lives. Give great value/content, and have people come to the inevitable conclusion in their mind that they want more of you.

Salespeople, in the best sense of the word, create value in the world.

If You Really Do Have Something Valuable: If you’re not getting it out to the world, not getting rewarded by it, then you’re not doing yourself a favour, and you’re not helping anyone else.

The Prosperity (Investment) Mindset: The prosperity way of thinking is, “This is an investment in my future success. If I get one idea from a $10,000 investment or a $10 book, that one idea could be worth a million dollars.”

Marketing is selling in advance.

Brand Building vs Direct Marketing: It’s not about getting your name out there, it’s about getting your name out there and getting a response back.

Don’t learn from people who’ve been there, done that. Learn from people who have been there, done that, and are still doing it.

Every spiritual leader on the planet was a great marketer. Even those that you don’t think are marketing are actually marketing without you knowing they’re marketing.

Lack of a marketing strategy is, itself, a strategy.

Solve problems for a profit. You don’t owe the world anything, other than your very best.

“The world is changed with a checkbook.” If people need clothing, all of the wishing and hoping doesn’t buy the clothing. It’s the stroke of a pen Marketing can be done to not only make profits for yourself, but it can be done to solve a lot of social and economic problems.

The very best way that you could impact the world is, first, have a great business that totally takes care of you. The more that you’re taken care of, the more you can go out and do stuff.

Property Update

RBA's Ellis downplays housing bubble talk The housing market is not in a bubble, the head of the Reserve Bank of Australia's financial stability department says.

"This is not an institution that's in denial about the possibility of bubbles in the housing market," Luci Ellis said in response to a question at a conference in Sydney.

But she downplayed suggestions the market was currently at that point.

"My boss (RBA assistant governor, financial system) Malcolm Edey was asked that question a few weeks ago and nothing has changed since he gave his answer," Dr Ellis said.

"I would endorse the phrase he used, which I think was `unrealistic alarmism'."

In reference to the classic poem "Said Hanrahan", by bush poet John O'Brien, she described people claiming there's a bubble as "housing Hanrahans".

The poem's main character, the chronically pessimistic Hanrahan, would respond to any event with the warning that "We'll all be ruined".

"I think there are a lot of people, the minute housing prices start to pick up they say, `Oh my goodness, we'll all be ruined'", Dr Ellis said.

"The minute housing prices start to pick up they imagine it's a bubble."

Housing prices have been picking up recently but, taking a longer view, they have been "cycling around" the trend in household income, she said.

Australia did come close to having housing bubble a decade ago, but on the basis of a "dispassionate" analysis of the data, there was "no comparison" with the current state of the market, Dr Ellis said.

The earlier period was marked by rapid growth in credit and in housing prices, low and falling rental yields, household spending exceeding income, new housing finance products, easing lending standards, and "really, really strong" investor interest.

And all of that was spilling over into the rest of the economy, she said.

"You compare that with now, well, yes, housing prices have been growing, but they were falling until recently," Dr Ellis said.

The current environment is more similar to 2010, she said.

"Part of the transmission mechanism of monetary policy is that you'll see some effect in asset markets and credit markets," Dr Ellis said.

"The important point here is we're not seeing a credit fueled speculative boom.

Social Media: Facebook – Can you afford to not be there?

Nine million Australians – almost 40 per cent of the population – visit Facebook every day, according to the social network firm's first detailed breakdown of its local user figures.

Most of the major social media companies, including Facebook and Twitter, have previously refused to release detailed daily user figures – especially at a national level.

But Facebook broke rank in a bid to show off its muscle to potential advertisers.

"In Australia, more than nine million people are on Facebook on the web and more than 7.3 million on mobile every day," the company said.

It told Fairfax Media it had confidence in its figures and used "a number of data points including IP addresses" to arrive at them.

"We have dedicated teams that constantly monitor and remove false accounts to make the Facebook experience as authentic as possible for people and advertisers," it said.

Veteran media analyst Steve Allen from Fusion Strategy corroborated Facebook's figures.

"The mobile number did surprise me. [But] ... on a quick read of the [Roy Morgan Research] data we use it sounds about right," he said.

"And frankly with Facebook, as much as though all people who release things to the market tinge it with optimism we've never seen Facebook put anything silly out into the market."

The Australian figures are similar, on a population ratio, to Facebook's user figures in the US and Britain.

There are more than 128 million daily Facebook users in the US, from a population of 316 million.

And Britain has 24 million daily Facebook users, from a population of 63 million.

It comes despite research published last week by experts at the University of Michigan and the University of Leuven, Belgium, which suggested Facebook can make some users feel unhappy.

The two-week observational study concluded that the more Facebook users logged onto the site, the worse they felt – though its authors pointed out that longer-term studies were needed to validate the findings.

Facebook has previously only ever revealed its global and monthly user figures.

That's in line with many other media websites, which often report user figures on a month-by-month basis.

But Facebook said that's becoming an old-fashioned methodology. Cont page 8 ♦

1. Pre-heat the oven to the desired temperature

2 garlic cloves, gently smashed and peeled 1 medium eggplant, quartered lengthwise, very thinly sliced crosswise

2. Put your cut of meat with a lid.

4 (3/4- to 1-pound) sea bream (with heads and tails), cleaned SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: parchment paper; kitchen string

Instructions Heat oven to 350º with racks in middle and lower third. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Brush paper with oil.

4. Cook the meat for 1 2 hours depending on the size and cut of meat.

Suggested guidelines are included in the Oven Operational Manual.

5. You can brown the top of the meat by using the grill function for a few minutes to round off the cooking.

In a large nonstick skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil and garlic over medium-high heat; cook eggplant in 2 batches with generous pinch salt, stirring occasionally, until just softened, about 5 minutes. Using tongs, transfer eggplant to a 9- x 13-inch baking dish (leave garlic in pan). Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil to skillet; heat 30 seconds. Cook peppers in 2 batches, stirring occasionally, until just softened, about 7 minutes. Transfer to dish with eggplant. Repeat with zucchini, then onion, cooking vegetables just until softened, salting lightly and adding 1 tablespoon oil to skillet, if pan is dry. Remove and discard garlic.

Add basil to vegetables; stir to combine.

Pat fish dry; arrange on prepared baking sheet. Season cavities with salt, then stuff with a little bit of the vegetable mixture. Tie fish with kitchen string, just below head and above tail. Bake 15 minutes on middle rack, then put vegetables in oven. Continue to bake fish and vegetables until fish is just cooked through and vegetables are warm, about 10 minutes more.
