MyThesisProjectwasbasedinHackneyontheKingslandBasinofRegents Canal,reusinganexistingbuilding,withthesitefunctioningasaprevious timberwharf.Inspiredthroughmyresearchofurbandesignandthearea, alongwiththewritersofJaneJacobsandAnnaMinton,theprojectaimedto addresstheprivatisationofourcitiesandtheevercommercialisingworldthat Ibelievedtoberesultinginalackofcommunity.
TheKingslandCollectiveprovidesthreedifferenttypologiesforcommunal living,elevatedaboveawhollypublicgroundfloorthatallowsforfunctional communityfacilities,blurringtheboundariesbetweenpublicandprivate space.Thebuildingstrivestomakethecitymoreaccessibletoeveryoneand inturncreatesacentreofactivityandlife,sensitivetoitsenvironment.

Thebriefsetouttodesignastudycentreforourunittovisitforalonger periodonlocation.Idevelopedthisfurtherbyextendingitformultiple requirementssoitcanalsobeusedbythelocalcommunity. Thispresentedthedemandsofdesigningawelcomingplace,andatthe sametimeonewhichprovidesasafeandsecureenvironment,addressing theconceptofpublicandprivatespace.
