In supporting the Battersea: Riverside Odyssey, this documment focuses on develop an innovatice approach to the technology in order to resolved the project itself. This document mainly divided into two sections, research and design in relation to environment, structure and construction.

Battersea : Riverside Odyssey is an experimental project locates the River Thames. There are 8 plots that recreates a series of historic event on the river to testify a new methodology of an archive.

/ ENV IONMENTAL ANAL YSIS /

The following environmental analysis focuses on different elements on the river including the tide, forseshore, time, etc. Since, tidal movement is key to the site, through the following analysis, from understanding the theory to the ability of the tidal energy. Also, the Thames itself is a dynamic site which is rich in context during different time.

Since the project takes place on the River Thames, the shadow cast by the surrounding affects the experience within it. With the higher angle of sun during the summer, it allows more outdoor activity to occur. In contrast, winter time is more prefer to use insude the structure.

Marine structure is highly used throughout project. Four types of dock system has been used based on the specific program or a type of experience that a specific plots aim to offer.

In general, Buoyancy (also known as the buoyant force) is the force exerted on an object that is wholly or partly immersed in a fluid. Therefore, the strategy in bringing new structure to the Thames requires different adapation in relation to it.

The timber fixed dock structure is mainly used for the main circulation of all the plots to ensure accessibility of the project since this structure does not affect by the tidal movement.

Swim Raft is the a simple floating structure which is weak in providing stability but able to reflect the different condition of the dynamic site.

The swimming raft structure uses gather the tension force towards a single anchor weight to maintain the stability. Since the tension are towards the same direction, the structure is affected by the divergent force from the water current.

The diagonal chain and concrete deadmen anchor system use the tension force on the chain to eliminate the force from water current in order to stablize the floating module.

Section of the plot of culture which featured with a detachaable amphitheater to provide a new type of performace space. The form of the amphitheater also benefit the acoustic quality, and the river itself enhance the echo level.
