The Tandem Bus is on its way! As one of the UK’s fastest growing responsible lenders, Tandem has launched a Financial Education workshop unlike any other. Touring the region in the amazing Tandem Bus, we want to work with your organisation to literally drive forward the financial awareness and knowledge of your pupils.

Oh, and it’s all totally free!

“Over half of 17 year olds in the UK have already been in some form of debt.” Why are we doing this? What makes the wheels on the Tandem Bus go round and round? Good question. Usually when companies offer something for free there’s a big catch hiding somewhere. But not with Tandem. We’re committed to being a responsible lender. But to us, that means more than providing access to affordable finance. We want to help young people to improve their money management, increase their credit scores, understand financial products, and avoid getting into unmanageable debt. There’s no better time to learn about money than as a young adult who’s about to progress on to the next stage of their life and head out into the world. That’s why we want to support your organisation in educating and empowering the next generation.

Course overview We worked closely with sixth form pupils to develop teaching material that’s tailored to the financial views and needs of young adults. Initially we will have six engaging and interactive 30−minute sessions however this will be extended to 12 sessions in 2022. Specific sessions can be chosen or delivered in their entirety at intervals to suit the needs of your students. Your students will have the chance to learn about crucial financial topics, including:

Budgets It’s the foundation of money management, but 10% of university students have never set a budget! We teach pupils how to create a budget, monitor spending habits between pay days, and more.

Money Safety It’s not just overspending that’s a threat. There are more scammers today than ever before. We teach pupils what to look out for and how to keep their money safe.

Credit Scores What’s a credit score? Why do I have one? How does it change? We address all these confusing questions and more, in a context that’s relevant to young adults.

Meet the teacher We know it’s not just the material that matters. You need to know that your pupils are going to be in good hands. Luckily, we’ve got an amazing financial educator to bring our course to life.

Andrew has worked as a lecturer in further education, a senior manager for two schools in Dubai, a trainer for the EU, and an independent training consultant for Jaguar Land Rover, Vauxhall, Kellogg’s, Adidas, and Marks & Spencers to name a few. Since joining Tandem, Andrew’s been on a mission to create a financial education course that empowers young adults with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives. He brings huge expertise and energy to every single session. Anyone who thinks financial education is boring clearly never learned it from Andrew.

Environmental issues are high on our agenda and we’re continually looking for ways to protect our planet. Our partnership with Trees for Life and Leighton Hall Estate enables us to help rebalance nature by helping to offset our carbon footprint and support their fantastic conservation work. Our carbon emissions are our problem. So, we’ve identified a number of solutions to offset this and these will enable us to work towards becoming a carbon negative business. Tandem has also become a Platinum Patron of local charity The Boathouse Youth. As Blackpool’s biggest youth club, The Boathouse Youth provides an incredibly fun and supportive range of services for young people in the area - all free of charge.

Sadly, Blackpool ranks among the worst areas in the UK for child poverty. Since it was founded in 2009, The Boathouse Youth has helped over 2,000 children from some of the most deprived areas of the town. The charity offers a great mix of fun and practical services including education, activities, support, and even holidays for its young members who would otherwise not have access to them. As a Platinum Patron, Tandem is pledging £25,000 annually for the next three years to help ensure young people in Blackpool can continue to enjoy the experiences that The Boathouse Youth provides, for years to come.
