The annual publication of Fintona’s Ringing Voices is an anthology of student work. Included in the anthology is the artwork of students from Years 5 to 12. Ranging from poetry to short stories the creative pieces within the collection showcase the reflective and creative process. Within Fintona's English classes from Years 5 to 12, students are encouraged to write in various forms and to explore a broad range of concepts pertaining to the human experience. Through our classes, we remind the students that “There is no rule on how to write. Sometimes it comes easily and perfectly: sometimes it’s like drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges” (Ernest Hemingway). In other words, while we guide the students through the creative writing process and provide them with opportunities to write, ultimately it requires tenacity and adaptability when writing creatively. The written work and artwork published in Ringing Voices is, therefore, a testament to student dedication to the creative process.
