Four Extraordinary Stories

Earlier this year, we gave Melbourne writer and film director, Greta Nash, the challenge of telling Fintona’s story of ‘Unearthing the Extraordinary’ in a new promotional video.
Greta has spent a lot of time working with teenagers through narrative and commercial projects and in 2018 wrote, directed, and edited the winning Tropfest film, Two Piece. Greta was delighted at the opportunity to work with our students, and speaking on the project said, ‘What I admire most is the premise behind unearthing the extraordinary – how it recognises in every student the potential to flourish, and the capacity for remarkable things.’ Greta proposed telling Fintona’s story as authentically as possible through the eyes of our girls, each with their own unique journey.
When asked about her school experience, Year 4 student, Sachi, said ‘When I started at Fintona and where I am now, I think the difference and the change that’s happened, makes me feel quite proud.’ This sentiment captures what is echoed across year levels and in the individual experiences of our students. At Fintona, we believe every girl has extraordinary within, and enhanced access to teachers and opportunities allows each girl to move beyond her comfort zone and unlock her natural potential. In Term 2, Greta returned to Fintona with a creative team from Wildebeest Studios and visited the Junior and Senior Campuses to interview and film students. Catherine (Year 12) shared how she found her passion for sport at Fintona; Paige (Year 10) spoke of her love for Drama and Fashion Design and how the School is like a second home; Linh (Year 9), a gifted musician and champion of environmental causes said she feels like it is possible to bring any idea she has to life at Fintona; and proud student Sachi, who especially loves Mathematics, spoke about her journey from starting as a shy student to now being excited at the opportunity to lead assemblies and aerobics routines as one of the Captains.
These four stories cast a bright light on the dynamic learning journey each Fintona student takes to discover more about herself and what she can achieve.
The film project will be live on our website very soon. If it resonates with you, we encourage you to share it with your friends and family.
