Back to the 80s
The last day of Term 1 was jam-packed for Fintona musicians, with 143 students participating in the annual Cabaret Night event. After a year of not performing due to COVID, this first performance was significant. Music, dance, and drama returned to Fintona with a hearty celebration of the culture, big hair, and outrageous fashion of the 1980s. From Dolly Parton to Joan Jett, Michael Jackson to Whitney Houston, Cabaret Night 2021 was a night of pure entertainment. Fintona staff, with their hearts still set firmly in the 80s, presented a ‘surprise performance’, regaling unsuspecting onlookers with a passion and fire for the A-ha song, Take on Me. It is rumoured that the teacher band are planning their first national tour for the next school holidays, such was the breathtaking success of their debut performance.
All students who performed were superb in their preparation, passion, and stage presence. The hours of rehearsals certainly paid off, and a special mention must be given to those students who rehearsed under their own steam, out of school hours in preparation for this year’s Cabaret Night. Many thanks also to the students who were critical in the event management and technical support: Holly Orrico (Stage Manager), Maya Martin (Crew), Jenny Long (Crew), Celeste Leung (Crew), and Emma Feng (Audio/Visual). Finally, a huge thank you to all the students and many staff members who ensured the event ran smoothly. We salute you!
