Chairman FinTech Belgium asbl/vzw Dear FinTech Community, Dear friends, Welcome to the Digital Finance Summit 2020, the fifth edition of our annual event: The WORLD AFTER! It is a great pleasure having been able to organise our major event during the exceptional conditions we are living through. Needless to underline the uncertainties that have surrounded the organisation of this edition since the beginning of the year when Covid-19 wasn’t yet heard about!

I would like to warmly thank all those fintech lovers and passionate people that have supported our non-profit organisation, striving to promote and animate our exciting financial services sector.

In particular, many thanks to our supporting partners that have demonstrated the resilience, the creativity, and the positive entrepreneurial attitude of those few that do not let themselves dismantled by the crisis, on the contrary! A special word of gratitude to the Fintech Belgium team

and those volunteers from the Board of Directors and from our members (more than 100+) that are spending lengthy unpaid hours to make this all happen! …including the numerous webinars & events organised throughout this covid-19 year.

We are thus proud of having created a unique phygital event - partly physically, partly from remote (the new normal?) of the highest quality!

Let me outline briefly the set-up.

For this Fifth Edition we will address the most burning questions in regard to Digital Finance, with the special focus on Banking, Insurance, Technology and The world after COVID-19.

Forming a community allows us not only to share experiences, foster our passion to challenge the status-quo, but also making sure that our

collective voice is stronger and more listened to.

For that matter, this year, Fintech Belgium is proud to announce the creation of FIRe, a brand new Fintech, Insuretech, Regulationtech, etceteraTech (FIRe) Powerhouse in collaboration with Silversquare where 7,000 square meters will be dedicated to co-work, meet and learn for the European fintech community. It will host our association and the newly formed association of 9 European Fintech associations - the EDFA (European Digital Finance Association) where Fintech Belgium is a founding member. This space at the heart of Brussels will also provide a wonderful business lounge to all those policy makers and Fintech specialists meeting to craft our industry and decide n policies such the PSD2.

In conclusion, I am wishing you all to enjoy a terrific time among us, whether during our numerous activities or while attending our fantastic 5th edition of our Summit.

THE INITIATOR

FINTECH BELGIUM asbl/vzw Fintech Belgium asbl/vzw is the Federation by and for FinTechs in Belgium.

Created in 2015, our non-profit organisation is the first and biggest community of FinTechers in Belgium gathering financial professionals, startup entrepreneurs and investors, who are interested in discovering and discussing disruptive business models and new technology for the financial services industry. We federate and represent over 100 players of the digital finance industry.

Our Team: On May 2nd 2016, Fintech Belgium officially became a non-profit organisation grown from the spirit “by fintechers, for fintechers”. The team includes 8 board members, with Jean-Louis Van Houwe as chairman, Patricia Boydens as VP and ambassador for our vertical Insurtech Belgium, Eric Rodriguez as treasurer, Xavier Corman as secretary, JeanFrançois Heering as ambassador for our vertical Regtech Belgium, Catherine Houssa, Toon Vanagt, Johannes Vermeire. The board of directors supports the association with their time, representing the members and association when talking to regulators and other parties, reviewing the membership applications and giving advice on the different activities.

The operational team consists in Alessandra Guion, Regina Piffarerio, Caroline Morauw, Xavier Corman. This team of dedicated employees manages all the events, memberships, partnerships and administration of the association supported by occasional trainees for FinTech Belgium’s communication and our annual summit.
