This group project was set in an area in northern Seoul which is largely dominated by the fabric and fashion industry as well as other smaller areas that specialised in niche markets.

The site proposed a range of challenges such as density and overheating as well as a particular deprived area known as “Jjokbangchon” which roughly translates to “cubicle Village”. This consistent mainly of illegally subdivided dwellings with poor living conditions.

Self-sufficient Mechanism of the World in 2050

As a team we were tasked with generating a set of proposals that would regenerate the area in the year 2050. We chose to have a series of interventions at different scales that would target the disconnects between the different scales within the superblock. The project was prefaced by the idea that Seul would be a self sufficient city as outlined below.
