THE MAKING OF A DOCTOR
“These are based on my interactions with Doctors on what they experienced during their academic career”
As a kid I would get fascinated by young men and women walking the streets adoring a white apron and with a stethoscope in the pocket. “Can I become a doctor someday” This thought would occur in my mind most of the time.I would think that how I could treat people and prescribe medicines’ would also think how my own sibling’s and parents would treat me when I become a Doctor. As I student I was a good one and would excel in my studies. My teachers and parents were satisfied with my progress and I would get good appreciation.I always balanced my time between studies and leisure.I was never complacent and never took anything lightly.Though my parents were from the middle class but they would always provide what we needed. My school and high school went well and I passed with good marks. After my high school I immediately started preparing for my medical school entrance exam.I really toiled day and night and sat for the exam.At that very moment I knew I had done well and I assured my parents that I will have made to the final list. The day came and my name featured in the merit list. This was a real moment of joy and satisfaction, as I knew I had saved my parents the money which the didn’t have.
A week later I filled the formalities at the assigned medical school and a fortnight later our classes started. I was quick to purchase some books an apron and some new clothes. The first day at the college was just interactions and introductions, but sooner the hectic academic course started. We had to learn anything and everything from day one.An exam was an everyday affair. The curriculum was vast and descriptive. It meant studying with great diligence prudence. With every passing day we would learn more and more whether theoretically or practically. The white apron had lost its sheen as we were taxed to the limit of our endurance.Years passed and we got elevated to the next level.Nothing changed as far as sternous studies and tough exams were concerned.Whatever was left undone was examined by the experts who would take our Vivas.Nothing was taken lightly and after five hectic years we sat in the final exam of final professional. The exam went well and we were declared successful. The prefix Dr got attached to our names.Becoming a doctor was never easy but not tough either if a person takes his studies extremely serious. The profession is noble but comes at a cost of hardwork and perseverance…….
