Cross Winds is a fabulous house for anyone whether they have a family or, with the current owners having absolutely loved living here, as a couple. With so much space in complete tranquillity and surrounded by nature, the verdant garden is a huge asset with its majestic mature trees such as the weeping willow on entering the property as the gravel drive sweeps round the turning circle in front of the house. A standalone triple garage is to the right, and a Virginia creeper is clad on the house’s façade. The expansive lawns are enclosed largely by mature hedging and trees and have an outlook onto far reaching farmland beyond, with spectacular views from the upstairs windows. “We see lots of wildlife,” enthuse the owners, “countless different birds, and muntjac deer, hares, pheasants and partridges.” There’s also a pond which is said to have been dug in 1900 as the soil was apparently used for the foundations of the village church.

At the far end, eighteen discreet solar panels are tilted to face south and generate electricity that is fed into a tariff meaning the couple’s average electricity bills are just £35 per month. Closer to the house, a 6 x 4 metre log cabin, has provided the perfect home office – internet is good here - in an enchanting setting. With so many acres of lawn, down the side of the house it has been suitably utilised as a tennis court for these, and previous owners.

Despite the size of the property, the current owners have extended it to include a fabulous orangery-style garden room that leads through double doors off the back of the kitchen. Two glazed sides are fitted with bi-folding doors which open right back to really connect with the outside and the glossy tiled floor, fitted with under-floor heating, gives a very glamorous feel, as well as making it a useful winter space. However, a step down onto the terrace, and this is a magnificent area for summer entertaining especially since it is bathed in sunshine all afternoon and evening.

The flow between rooms is exceptional with glazed doors that connect the many areas. A central reception room contains a cosy spot in winter with a log-burner in an exposed brick chimney breast, with the more formal, carpeted living room next door having an open fire.

The owners have also laid dark bamboo floorboards in much of the downstairs, and completely refurbished the bathroom upstairs which is now a contemporary space with dark, porcelain tiles and a free-standing slipper bath and a separate, much larger shower than before.

Storage is certainly no issue in this property. As well as the three big store rooms accessed from outside running along the side of the kitchen, and the triple garage, the house has a plethora of built in cupboards inside.

The roomy entrance hall has several, and the kitchen has an abundance, with long runs of worktop and an island with an oak top that includes a gas hob (supplied by bottled gas as the property is fuelled by oil). Integrated appliances are an AEG eye-level oven and microwave, a dishwasher and a wine cooler, whilst a separate range-style cooker nestles in between units.

With such peace and tranquillity, the amount of free flowing space internally and externally, with the house flooded with natural light and having such a great relationship with the outside, it is no wonder the owners have loved their time living here.
