Our first impression of the property was one of great surprise,” say the current owners of Lawnswood. “The house stands nicely in a private plot tucked away on a quiet road – coming across it was totally unexpected, as we didn’t even know this part of Dore existed! A pretty house with lots of large windows, we fell in love with it right away, not least for the rural feeling the secluded setting provides.”

Since moving in, the owners have made various improvements to the property. “We have lived here for more than 20 years,” they say, “during which time we have renovated the house from top to bottom, including new windows, bathrooms, electrics, plumbing, CCTV, and mains wired smoke and fire alarms. The most recent project was an attic conversion with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden. We have taken great care to retain many of the original features of the house, whilst updating the home to create a more modern feel. We particularly love the living room/ sunroom – a bright and comfortable space in which to spend time together as a family.”

Indeed, this is the ideal home for everyday life and entertaining alike. “This has been a lovely family home,” the owners say, “and we have hosted so many family parties and celebrations here over the years. When our children were younger, we even had birthday bouncy castles, piñatas and a trampoline on the lawn for all their friends to enjoy. The gardens are a wonderful extension to the house itself, with lots of seating areas and patios to the rear and side allowing you to follow the sun all through the day. It is so beautifully quiet here that all you can hear is birdsong.”

The local area has much to recommend it, too, enjoying the best of both calm and convenience. “We will miss the special village feel of Dore, which is due in large part to the lovely people who live here,” the owners say. “Dore is not a large village but it takes less than five minutes by train to get to Sheffield city centre. Facilities are all only 10 minutes away, including a train station, woodland and sports ground. There are four pubs/bars, good local shops, and four cafes, as well as good primary and secondary schools within a few minutes’ walk. Most notable, however, are the endless picturesque walks, whether through the village, in the woods, or around the nearby nature reserve.”
