64 West Cliff Road
Broadstairs | Kent | CT10 1PY
Only a stone’s throw from the magnificent clifftops overlooking Louisa Bay, in the exclusive West Cliff Road, is this impressive Edwardian town house. It was built in 1902 and still retains many original features that give it such a special character. With its newly painted exterior, mullioned bay windows, chimney stack, ornate plasterwork, original balcony and front door, the house has delightful kerb appeal. It is set back from the road with a high hedge providing a level of privacy and accessed via a path to the front door. This opens into a lobby with Pugin style floor tiles and impressive original wall tiling.
Internally there are also numerous original features including high coved ceilings, high skirtings, original wood floorboards and fireplaces while the hall also features an arch with ornate corbels. It leads to the main rooms on the ground floor including the delightful, dual aspect lounge with an attractive fireplace incorporating inset tiling and a coal effect gas fire as well as two large bay windows that produce an abundance of natural light throughout the day. There is a delightful sitting room with another tall bay window and an impressive fireplace with a tiled inset and a gas fire.
A good sized dining room with a large storage cupboard leads to the country style kitchen that has a large range cooker and painted wood units housing a fridge freezer and a dishwasher. There is an adjacent utility room and cloakroom as well as multipane French doors to the conservatory that has views over the very secluded L-shaped south facing courtyard garden where you can enjoy the sunshine all day and is perfect for outdoor entertaining.
The original staircase leads to the first floor, the double height galleried landing includes a skylight window that produces heaps of natural light and has access to the family bathroom with a bath and separate shower as well as three double bedrooms. One has views over the courtyard, another includes a bay window and the main bedroom has the delight of an unusual and original door to the charming balcony with glimpses of the sea as well as an en suite shower room.
An ornate arch is the entrance to the second floor landing where you will find two double bedrooms. One includes a seating area and access to a vast attic that could always be converted into a sitting room, while the other bedroom has an en suite cloakroom. This whole floor could become a self-contained apartment and/or would make an excellent ‘hideaway’ for teenage children looking for a bit of independence and privacy.
We moved here eight years ago because we really loved how close our home was to the beautiful beaches moments away. It is so easy and quick to walk along the clifftops to the town centre with its lovely restaurants, individual shops and bars. We shall be sad but we feel it is time to downsize but will be staying in Broadstairs. It is a delightful town with annual events such as Folk Week, the Dickens Festival and the Food Fair. It is also includes the excellent North Foreland Golf club and is not far from the Westwood Cross shopping centre, health clubs and a cinema and casino complex. There are also some very good state and private schools close by as well as a variety of sports clubs including cricket, tennis bowls and rugby. While the high speed train can get you to London in well under an hour and a half.”*
