The Find Manningham is a community paper that aims to support all things Manningham. We want to provide a place where all Not-For-Profits (NFP), schools, sporting groups and other like organisations can share their news in one place. For instance, submitting up-andcoming events in the Find Manningham for Free. We do not proclaim to be another newspaper and we will not be aiming to compete with other news outlets. You can obtain your news from other sources. We feel you get enough of this already. We will keep our news topics to a minimum and only provide what we feel is most relevant topics to you each month. We invite local council and the current council members to participate by submitting information each month so as to keep us informed of any changes that may be of relevance to us, their local constituents.

We will also try and showcase different organisations throughout the year so you, the reader, can learn more about what is on offer in your local area. To help support the paper, we invite local business owners to sponsor the paper and in return we will provide exclusive advertising and opportunities to submit articles about their businesses. As a community we encourage you to support these businesses/columnists. Without their support, we would not be able to provide this community paper to you. Lastly, we want to ask you, the local community, to support the fundraising initiatives that we will be developing

and rolling out over the coming years. Our aim is to help as many NFP and other like organisations to raise much needed funds to help them to keep operating. Our fundraising initiatives will never simply ask for money from you. We will also aim to provide something of worth to you before you part with your hard-earned money. The first initiative is the Find Cards and Find Coupons – similar to the Entertainment Book but cheaper and more localised. ALL THINGS MANNINGHAM The City of Manningham is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Manningham had a population of approximately 125,508 as at the 2018 Report which includes 27,500 business and close to 45,355 households. The Doncaster and Templestowe Council administered the area until December 15, 1994.

When Australians celebrate the Christmas "holiday season”, we typically refer to the time frame from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day. But soon after, in numerous Asian nations, there's another big holiday that brings people together with friends and family; Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year

Sometimes referred to as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year is one of the most important and extensively observed holidays worldwide. Families gather on this colourful and joyous event to celebrate the start of the Chinese lunar year, reflect on the past and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. There are many traditions and practices surrounding Chinese New Year, offering an understanding of the rituals, symbolism, and festive mood that envelop this fortunate time. Chinese New Year is believed to have originated during the Shang dynasty's control in the fourteenth century BC. Its history is rife with folklore. According to one legend, peasants were assaulted at the beginning of each year by a monster known as Nian ("Year"). Red, bright lights, and loud noises were all things Nian feared. These were tools used by people to drive the beast away. A long, colourful dragon puppet is paraded through the streets as the centrepiece of celebrations during dragon dancing, which is popular throughout the nation since the dragon is a Chinese symbol of strength and good fortune. In addition, many extensively

clean their homes during the New Year's celebration to remove any unfavourable energy from the previous year. Firecrackers, fireworks, and red clothing and decorations are therefore common elements of celebrations to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the good fortune and prosperity of the new one. Money is handed to young people in vibrant red envelopes. Chinese New Year is also a time for feasting and family visits. This is a time-honored celebration that blends ancient traditions with modern

festivities. As families come together to share meals, exchange gifts, and revel in the vibrant customs, the spirit of renewal and hope permeates the air. Whether you're a participant or an observer, understanding the rich tapestry of traditions associated with Chinese New Year provides a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance of this joyous occasion. Define Your Why Understanding the reasons behind your health goals is essential for long-term success. Ask yourself why these goals matter to you. It could be improving your energy levels, reducing stress, longevity, or simply feeling more confident in your own skin. Your "why" will be your anchor during challenging times, reminding you of the greater purpose behind your journey. Set Realistic and Sustainable Goals While aiming high is commendable, it's crucial to set goals that are both achievable and sustainable. Break down larger objectives into smaller,

The Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) is designed to increase recycling and reduce litter, while delivering economic benefits to the community. Manningham Mayor, Councillor Carli Lange, encouraged community members to take advantage of the opportunity to more conveniently recycle their eligible containers. “We all need to work together to take responsibility for how we dispose of waste. Let’s improve our recycling efforts, while supporting a sustainable future and the local economy along the way. Our recycling actions create products for future generations and ongoing sustainability for our community,” Cr Lange said. The scheme will contribute to Victoria’s target of diverting 80 per cent of all material away from landfill by 2030. Public toilet upgrade - Tunstall Square Shopping Centre, Doncaster East to take around two months to complete. Why is it needed? The implementation of the Public Toilet Plan involves delivering new public toilets and refurbishing existing ones. The new modular toilets will be safer with better lighting and ventilation, and more accessible with improved footpath connections. Cats to be confined to owners’ properties from April The pilot cat confinement order will be implemented over two years, including an amnesty period between April and December 2024 and an evaluation period in December 2025. “We will be focused on community awareness and education on the benefits of cat confinement prior to and during the amnesty period before moving towards compliance and enforcement. To help protect the welfare of cats and wildlife, Manningham Council will require pet owners to confine their cats within the boundaries of their properties from 1 April 2024. Council endorsed the introduction of a pilot 24-hour cat confinement order at its meeting on Tuesday night (12 December 2023). Manningham Mayor, Councillor Carli Lange, said Manningham’s Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) included endorsed initiatives to promote responsible pet ownership, one of which was the pilot cat confinement order.

“During the pilot it will be fine for cats to be outside so long as they’re confined to the boundary of their owner’s property,” Cr Lange said. Manningham is home to 3250 registered pet cats and provides a sanctuary for 56 threatened animal species. “We understand this is a big change for cats and their owners and will provide support and information to help with the transition, including educational information, videos and practical advice on preparing your pet and your property. We will continue to publish this information on our website between now and April.”
